The periodic standing wave method studies circular orbits of compact objects coupled to helically symmetric standing wave gravitational fields. From this solution an approximation is extracted for the strong field, slowly inspiralling motion of binary black holes and binary neutron stars. Previous work on this project has developed a method using a few multipoles of specially adapted coordinates well suited both to the radiation and the source regions. This method had previously been applied to linear and nonlinear scalar field models, to linearized gravity, and to a post-Minkowski approximati…
The periodic standing wave method studies circular orbits of compact objects coupled to helically symmetric standing wave gravitational fields. From this solution an approximation is extracted for the strong field, slowly inspiralling motion of black holes and binary stars. Previous work on this model has dealt with nonlinear scalar models, and with linearized general relativity. Here we present the results of the method for the post-Minkowski (PM) approximation to general relativity, the first step beyond linearized gravity. We compute the PM approximation in two ways: first, via the standard…
The periodic standing wave approach to binary inspiral assumes rigid rotation of gravitational fields and hence helically symmetric solutions. To exploit the symmetry, numerical computations must solve for ``helical scalars,'' fields that are functions only of corotating coordinates, the labels on the helical Killing trajectories. Here we present the formalism for describing linearized general relativity in terms of helical scalars and we present solutions to the mixed partial differential equations of the linearized gravity problem (and to a toy nonlinear problem) using the adapted coordinate…
In calculations of the inspiral of binary black holes an intermediate approximation is needed that can bridge the post-Newtonian methods of the early inspiral and the numerical relativity computations of the final plunge. We describe here the periodic standing wave approximation: A numerical solution is found to the problem of a periodic rotating binary with helically symmetric standing wave fields, and from this solution an approximation is extracted for the physically relevant problem of inspiral with outgoing waves. The approximation underlying this approach has been recently confirmed with…
We use a cosmological counterpart of the cylindrical Halilsoy solution to illustrate properties of cross-polarized standing gravitational waves.
We consider the possibility that the primordial fluctuations (scalar and tensor) might have been standing waves at their moment of creation, whether or not they had a quantum origin. We lay down the general conditions for spatial translational invariance, and isolate the pieces of the most general such theory that comply with, or break translational symmetry. We find that, in order to characterize statistically translationally invariant standing waves, it is essential to consider the correlator $\langle c_0({\mathbf k}) c_0({\mathbf k}')\rangle$ in addition to the better known $\langle c_0({\m…
Halilsoy and Chandrasekhar standing gravitational waves in the linear approximation
本研究在线性近似下对比真空爱因斯坦方程的两类柱形驻立引力波解——Halilsoy解与Chandrasekhar解,发现二者分别对应两类不同的电磁偏振驻波的引力版本。
We study the motion of free masses subject to the influence of standing gravitational waves in the polarized Gowdy cosmology with a three-torus topology. We show that antinodes attract freely falling particles and we trace the velocity memory effect.
The periodic standing-wave method for binary inspiral computes the exact numerical solution for periodic binary motion with standing gravitational waves, and uses it as an approximation to slow binary inspiral with outgoing waves. Important features of this method presented here are: (i) the mathematical nature of the ``mixed'' partial differential equations to be solved, (ii) the meaning of standing waves in the method, (iii) computational difficulties, and (iv) the ``effective linearity'' that ultimately justifies the approximation. The method is applied to three dimensional nonlinear scalar…
The most promising way to compute the gravitational waves emitted by binary black holes (BBHs) in their last dozen orbits, where post-Newtonian techniques fail, is a quasistationary approximation introduced by Detweiler and being pursued by Price and others. In this approximation the outgoing gravitational waves at infinity and downgoing gravitational waves at the holes' horizons are replaced by standing waves so as to guarantee that the spacetime has a helical Killing vector field. Because the horizon generators will not, in general, be tidally locked to the holes' orbital motion, the standin…
The theoretical properties of the black holes (BHs) and of the universe were derived from a unified relativistic theory based on a generalization of local relativity for nonlocal cases in gravitational fields and a quantized standing wave particle model that accounts for relativity, quantum mechanics and the gravitational tests (See gr-qc/9509014). They fix an isentropic and conservative steady state that is independent on an eventual universe expansion because matter also expands itself in the same proportion. The new black holes BHs resulting from linear properties of the model, after captur…
We investigate the 5D massless fermionic fields within the standing wave braneworld model. We show that in the case of increasing warp factor there exist localized left spinor field zero modes on the brane, while right fermion wave functions are not normalizable.
We investigate localization problem for gauge fields within the 5D standing wave braneworld with real scalar field and show that there exist normalizable vector field zero modes on the brane.
In the article we investigate localization problem for spinor fields within the 5D standing wave braneworld with the bulk real scalar field and show that there exist normalizable fermion field zero modes on the brane.
We study the possibility of detecting gravitational-waves with matter-wave interferometers, where atom beams are split, deflected and recombined totally by standing light waves. Our calculation shows that the phase shift is dominated by terms proportional to the time derivative of the gravitational wave amplitude. Taking into account future improvements on current technologies, it is promising to build a matter-wave interferometer detector with desired sensitivity.
In this work, we propose a standing wave braneworld based on Lyra geometry scenario. The Lyra displacement vector provides a modification in Einstein equations which can be interpreted as a noninteracting phantom scalar. From the Einstein's equation in Lyra manifold, a 5D standing wave braneworld is constructed in the presence of a cosmological constant. Unlike other standing wave solutions presented in the literature, no matter field is necessary to obtain these new solutions. We analyze the properties of the scalar, gauge vector and fermionic fields in this model, highlighting the relevance …
The localization problem for massive fermions in the 5D standing wave braneworld is considered. The fermion generations on the brane are explained by the existence of three nodes of standing waves in the bulk, where the left and right modes of the 5D fermion are localized and Dirac-type couplings mixes them. We show that in this model the structure of peaks of the left and right fermion wavefunctions in extra dimension leads to the observed mass spectrum of the up and down quark families.
The 6D braneworld with the phantom-like bulk scalar field is considered. We demonstrate pure gravitational localization of scalar field zero modes on the brane.
The class of non-stationary braneworld models generated by the coupled gravitational and scalar fields is reviewed. The model represents a brane in a space-time with single time and one large (infinite) and several small (compact) space-like extra dimensions. In some particular cases the model has the solutions corresponding to the bulk gravi-scalar standing waves bounded by the brane. Pure gravitational localization mechanism of matter particles on the node of standing waves, where the brane is placed, is discussed. Cosmological applications of the model also considered.
We construct simple standing wave solutions in a 5D space-time with a ghost scalar field. The nodes of these standing waves are 'islands' of 4D Minkowski space-time. For the 5D model with increasing (decreasing) warp factor there are a finite (infinite) number of nodes and thus Minkowski island-universes having different parameters, such as gravitational and cosmological constants. This feature is similar to the assumptions of the landscape models, which postulate a large number of universes with different parameters. This standing wave solution also provides a new localization mechanism - mat…
We construct a plane symmetric, standing gravitational wave for a domain wall plus a massless scalar field. The scalar field can be associated with a fluid which has the properties of `stiff' matter, i.e. matter in which the speed of sound equals the speed of light. Although domain walls are observationally ruled out in the present era the solution has interesting features which might shed light on the character of exact non-linear wave solutions to Einstein's equations. Additionally this solution may act as a template for higher dimensional 'brane-world' model standing waves.
We investigate the localization problem of matter fields within the 5D standing wave braneworld. In this model the brane emits anisotropic waves into the bulk with different amplitudes along different spatial dimensions. We show that in the case of increasing warp factor there exist the pure gravitational localization of all kinds of quantum and classical particles on the brane. For classical particles the anisotropy of the background metric is hidden, brane fields exhibit standard Lorentz symmetry in spite of anisotropic nature of the primordial 5D metric.
We investigate the problem of pure gravitational localization of matter fields within the 5D standing wave braneworld generated by gravity coupled to a phantom-like scalar field. We show that in the case of increasing warp factor there exist normalizable zero modes of spin-0, -1/2, -1, and -2 fields on the brane.
Within the 5D standing wave braneworld model numerical solutions of the equations for matter fields with various spins are found. It is shown that corresponding action integrals are factorizable and convergent over the extra coordinate, i.e. 4D fields are localized on the brane. We find that only left massless fermions are localized on the brane, while the right fermions are localized in the bulk. We demonstrate also quantization of Kaluza-Klein excited modes in our model.
We investigate the problem of localization of gauge fields within the 5D standing wave braneworld model and show that in the case of increasing warp factor there exist normalizable vector field zero modes on the brane.
We introduce new 6D standing wave braneworld model generated by gravity coupled to a phantom-like scalar field and investigate the problem of pure gravitational localization of matter fields. We show that in the case of increasing warp factor spin 0, 1, 1/2 and 2 fields are localized on the brane.
We investigate scalar and tensor fields in the brane model solution for the 5D space-time with standing gravitational waves in the bulk and show that even in the case of increasing warp factor there exist normalizable zero modes localized on the brane.
