We perform a comprehensive analysis of the most distinctive and important phenomenological implications of the recently proposed mechanism of sequential loop generation of strong hierarchies in the Standard Model (SM) fermion mass spectra. This mechanism is consistently realized at the level of renormalizable interactions in an extended variant of the Inert Higgs Doublet model, possessing the additional $Z_{2}^{(1)}\times Z_{2}^{(2)}$ discrete and $U_{1X}$ gauge family symmetries, while the matter sectors of the SM are extended by means of $SU_{2L}$-singlet scalars, heavy vector-like leptons and quarks, as well as right-handed neutrinos. We thoroughly analyze the most stringent constraints on the model parameter space, coming from the $Z^{\prime }$ collider searches, related to the anomaly in lepton universality, and the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as provide benchmark points for further tests of the model and discuss possible "standard candle" signatures relevant for future explorations.
In this work we will extend the inert-doublet model (IDM) by adding a new $U(1)_{F}$ gauge symmetry to it, under which, a $Z_{2}$ even scalar ($ϕ_{2}$) and $Z_{2}$ odd right handed component of two exotic charged leptons $(F_{eR},\ F_{μR})$, are charged. We also add one $Z_{2}$ even real scalar ($ϕ_{1}$) and one complex scalar ($ϕ$), three neutral Majorana right handed fermions ($N_{1},\ N_{2},\ N_{3}$), two left handed components of the exotic charged leptons $(F_{eL},\ F_{μL})$ as well as $F_τ$ are all odd under the $Z_{2}$, all of which are not charged under the $U(1)_{F}$. With these new p…
The inert doublet model (IDM) is a minimal extension of the Standard Model (SM) that can account for the dark matter in the universe. Naturalness arguments motivate us to study whether the model can be embedded into a theory with dynamically generated scales. In this work we study a classically scale invariant version of the IDM with a minimal hidden sector, which has a $U(1)_{\text{CW}}$ gauge symmetry and a complex scalar $Φ$. The mass scale is generated in the hidden sector via the Coleman-Weinberg (CW) mechanism and communicated to the two Higgs doublets via portal couplings. Since the CW …
We explore the phenomenology of Kaluza-Klein (KK) dark matter in very general models with universal extra dimensions (UEDs), emphasizing the complementarity between high-energy colliders and dark matter direct detection experiments. In models with relatively small mass splittings between the dark matter candidate and the rest of the (colored) spectrum, the collider sensitivity is diminished, but direct detection rates are enhanced. UEDs provide a natural framework for such mass degeneracies. We consider both 5-dimensional and 6-dimensional non-minimal UED models, and discuss the detection pros…
The flavour puzzle is an open problem both in the Standard Model and in its possible supersymmetric or grand unified extensions. In this thesis, we discuss possible explanations of the origin of fermion mass hierarchies and mixings by the use of non-Abelian discrete flavour symmetries. We present a T'- and an S4-based realisations in which the spontaneous breaking of the symmetry produces realistic fermion mass hierarchies, the quark mixing matrix comparable to the Wolfenstein parametrisation and the lepton mixing matrix close to the so-called tribimaximal pattern. We also present an alternati…
A phenomenological analysis of the three-family model based on the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ with exotic charged leptons, is carried out. Instead of using the minimal scalar sector able to break the symmetry in a proper way, we introduce an alternative set of four Higgs scalar triplets, which combined with an anomaly-free discrete symmetry, produce quark and charged lepton mass spectrum without hierarchies in the Yukawa coupling constants. We also embed the structure into a simple group and show some conditions to achieve a low gauge coupling unification, avoidin…
Supersymmetric (SUSY) models, even those described by relatively few parameters, generically allow many possible SUSY particle (sparticle) mass hierarchies. As the sparticle mass hierarchy determines, to a great extent, the collider phenomenology of a model, the enumeration of these hierarchies is of the utmost importance. We therefore provide a readily generalizable procedure for determining the number of sparticle mass hierarchies in a given SUSY model. As an application, we analyze the gravity-mediated SUSY breaking scenario with various combinations of GUT-scale boundary conditions involvi…
Recently, we presented the first non-Abelian flat directions that produce from a heterotic string model solely the three-generation MSSM states as the massless spectrum in the observable sector of the low energy effective field theory. In this paper we continue to develop the systematic techniques for the analysis of nonrenormalizable superpotential terms and non-Abelian flat direction in realistic string models. Some of our non-Abelian directions were F-flat to all finite orders in the superpotential. We study for the same string model the varying phenomenologies resulting from a large set of…
Eclectic flavor groups arising from string compactifications combine the power of modular and traditional flavor symmetries to address the flavor puzzle. This top-down scheme determines the representations and modular weights of all matter fields, imposing strict constraints on the structure of the effective potential, which result in controlled corrections. We study the lepton and quark flavor phenomenology of an explicit, potentially realistic example model based on a T6/Z3xZ3 orbifold compactification of the heterotic string that gives rise to an Omega(2) eclectic flavor symmetry. We find t…
We study the anatomy and phenomenology of Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV) in the context of Flavored Gauge Mediation (FGM). Within FGM, the messenger sector couples directly to the MSSM matter fields with couplings controlled by the same dynamics that explains the hierarchies in the SM Yukawas. Although the pattern of flavor violation depends on the particular underlying flavor model, FGM provides a built-in flavor suppression similar to wave function renormalization or SUSY Partial Compositeness. Moreover, in contrast to these models, there is an additional suppression of left-right (LR) flavor…
Exponential lepton mass ratios are studied in a low energy phenomenology. In view of the known data, the mass patterns of the charged leptons and widely discussed quasi-degenerate neutrinos are related to one another by two different traits - opposite mass ratios with large versus small exponents, and probably conformable mass-degeneracy-deviation hierarchies. The solar-atmospheric hierarchy parameter should have a special physical meaning in the Q-D neutrino scenario. A general generic hierarchy equation with two opposite solutions respectively for the charged lepton and neutrino mass ratios …
We consider the generation of neutrino masses via a singly-charged scalar singlet. Under general assumptions we identify two distinct structures for the neutrino mass matrix. This yields a constraint for the antisymmetric Yukawa coupling of the singly-charged scalar singlet to two left-handed lepton doublets, irrespective of how the breaking of lepton-number conservation is achieved. The constraint disfavours large hierarchies among the Yukawa couplings. We study the implications for the phenomenology of lepton-flavour universality, measurements of the $W$-boson mass, flavour violation in the …
We carry out a detailed analysis of the nonminimal supersymmetric standard model with lepton number violation. The model contains a unique trilinear lepton number violating term in the superpotential which can give rise to neutrino masses at the tree level. We search for the gauged discrete symmetries realized by cyclic groups which preserve the structure of the associated trilinear superpotential of this model, and which satisfy the constraints of the anomaly cancellation. The implications of this trilinear lepton number violating term in the superpotential and the associated soft supersymmet…
Spontaneously broken Abelian gauge symmetries can explain the fermion mass hierarchies of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In most cases it is assumed that the $U(1)_H$ symmetry is anomalous. However, non-anomalous models are also viable and yield an interesting phenomenology. Cancellation of the gauge anomalies implies the following results: unification of leptons and down-type quarks Yukawa couplings is allowed at most for two generations. The $μ$ term is necessarily somewhat below the supersymmetry breaking scale. The superpotential has accidental $B$ and $L$ symmetries, and R-par…
The charged fermion masses of the three generations exhibit the two strong hierarchies m_3 >> m_2 >> m_1. We assume that also neutrino masses satisfy m_{nu 3} > m_{nu 2} > m_{nu 1} and derive the consequences of the hierarchical spectra on the fermionic mixing patterns. The quark and lepton mixing matrices are built in a general framework with their matrix elements expressed in terms of the four fermion mass ratios m_u/m_c, m_c/m_t, m_d/m_s, and m_s/m_b and m_e/m_mu, m_mu/m_tau, m_{nu 1}/m_{nu 2}, and m_{nu 2}/m_{nu 3}, for the quark and lepton sector, respectively. In this framework, we show …
A bottom-up approach has been adopted to identify a flavour model that agrees with present experimental measurements. The charged fermion mass hierarchies suggest that only the top Yukawa term should be present at the renormalisable level. Similarly, describing the lightness of the active neutrinos through the type-I Seesaw mechanism, right-handed neutrino mass terms should also be present at the renormalisable level. The flavour symmetry of the Lagrangian including the fermionic kinetic terms and only the top Yukawa is then a combination of $U(2)$ and $U(3)$ factors. Once considering the Majo…
This Thesis presents my personal contributions to two distinct fields, namely the recent experimental anomalies in B-meson decays, and the longstanding quest for a theoretical explanation of lepton masses and mixings, under a unifying umbrella: Flavour Physics. The modern view of the Standard Model as an effective theory is motivated, and the dual role of flavour, as a probe of New Physics effects on one side, and as a piece of the puzzle itself on the other, is emphasized. By jointly discussing two physics cases of different nature, I attempt to offer a broader perspective on the current stat…
