We study supersymmetric index of 4d $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory on $S^1 \times M_3$. We compute asymptotic behavior of the index in the limit of shrinking $S^1$ for arbitrary $N$ by a refinement of supersymmetric Cardy formula. The asymptotic behavior for the superconformal index case ($M_3 =S^3$) at large $N$ agrees with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of rotating electrically charged BPS black hole in $AdS_5$ via a Legendre transformation as recently shown in literature. We also find that the agreement formally persists for finite $N$ if we slightly modify the AdS/CFT dictionary between Newton constant and $N$. This implies an existence of non-renormalization property of the quantum black hole entropy. We also study the cases with other gauge groups and additional matters, and the orbifold $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. It turns out that the entropies of all the CFT examples in this paper are given by $2π\sqrt{Q_1 Q_2 +Q_1 Q_3 +Q_2 Q_3 -2c(J_1 +J_2 )} $ with charges $Q_{1,2,3}$, angular momenta $J_{1,2}$ and central charge $c$. The results for other $M_3$ make predictions to the gravity side.
We compute the logarithmic corrections to black hole (BH) entropy product of ${\cal H}^{\pm}$ \footnote{ ${\cal H}^{+}$ and ${\cal H}^{-}$ denote outer (event) horizon and inner (Cauchy) horizons} by using \emph{Cardy prescription}. We particularly apply this formula for \emph{BTZ BH}. We speculate that the logarithmic corrections to entropy product of ${\cal H}^{\pm}$ when computed \emph{via Cardy formula} the product should be neither \emph{mass-independent (universal)} nor be \emph{quantized}.
For models with several time-dependent components generalized entropies can be defined. This is shown for the Bianchi type IX model. We first derive the Cardy-Verlinde formula under the assumption that the first law of thermodynamics is valid. This leads to an explicit expression of the total entropy associated with this type of universes. Assuming the validity of the Cardy entropy formula, we obtain expressions for the corresponding Bekenstein, Bekenstein-Hawking and Hubble entropies. We discuss the validity of the Cardy-Verlinde formula and possible extensions of the outlined procedure to ot…
We calculate Sorkin's spacetime entanglement entropy of a Gaussian scalar field for complementary regions in the 2d cylinder spacetime and show that it has the Calabrese-Cardy form. We find that the cut-off dependent term is universal when we use a covariant UV cut-off. In addition, we show that the relative size-dependent term exhibits complementarity. Its coefficient is however not universal and depends on the choice of pure state. It asymptotes to the universal form within a natural class of pure states.
We study the AdS rotating black hole solution for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity in three dimensions. The field equations of the asymptotically AdS black hole of the static metric can be expressed as the first law of thermodynamics, i.e. $dE=TdS-PdV$. The corrected Hawking-like temperature and entropy of asymptotically AdS rotating black hole are calculated using the Cardy formula and the tunneling method. Comparison of these methods will help identify the unknown leading correction parameter $β_1$ in the tunneling method.
We study supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric extremal black holes obtained in Type IIA string theory compactified on K3 X T^2, with duality group O(6,22,Z) X SL(2,Z). In the Cardy limit an internal circle combines with the AdS_2 component in the near horizon geometry to give a BTZ black hole whose entropy is given by the Cardy formula. We study black holes carrying D0-D4 and D0-D6 brane charges. We find, both in the supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric cases, that a generic set of charges cannot be brought to the Cardy limit using the duality symmetries. In the non-supersymmetric case, unli…
We explore the gravitational implementation of the field theory Cardy-like limit recently used in the successful microstate countings of AdS black hole entropy in various dimensions. On the field theory side, the Cardy-like limit focuses on a particular scaling of conserved electric charges and angular momenta, and we first translate this scaling to the gravitational side by a limiting procedure on the black hole parameters. We note that the scaling naturally accompanies a near-horizon region for which these black hole solutions are greatly simplified. Applying the Kerr/CFT correspondence to t…
As recently found by Youm [hep-th/0201268], the entropy of the universe will no longer be expressible in the conventional Cardy-Verlinde form if one relaxes the radiation dominance state equation and instead assumes a more general equation of the form p=(γ-1)ρ, with γa constant. We show that Youm's generalized entropy formula remains valid when the cosmic fluid is no longer ideal, but is allowed to possess a constant bulk viscosity ζ. We supply our analysis with some numerical estimates, thus calculating the scale factor a(t) for a k=0 universe, and also calculate via a perturbative expansion …
The results of the paper of Verlinde [hep-th/0008140], discussing the holographic principle in a radiation dominated universe, are extended when allowing the cosmic fluid to possess a bulk viscosity. This corresponds to a non-conformally invariant theory. The generalization of the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula to the case of a viscous universe seems from a formal point of view to be possible, although we question on physical grounds some elements in this kind of theory, especially the manner in which the Casimir energy is evaluated. Our discussion suggests that for non-conformally invariant t…
The Cardy-Verlinde formula is analyzed in the contest of the gravitational collapse. Starting from the holographic principle, we show how the equations for a homogeneous and isotropic gravitational collapse describe the formation of the black hole entropy. Some comments on the role of the entangled entropy and the connection with the c-theorem are made.
We consider the brane universe in the bulk background of the topological AdS-Schwarzschild black holes, where the brane tension takes larger value than the fine-tunned value. The resulting universe is radiation dominated and has positive cosmological constant. We obtain the associated cosmological Cardy formula and the Cardy-Verlinde formula. We also derive the Hubble and the Bekenstein entropy bounds from the conjectured holography bound on the Casimir entropy.
With Carlip's boundary conditions, a standard Virasoro subalgebra with corresponding central charge for stationary dilaton black hole obtained in the low-energy effective field theory describing string is constructed at a Killing horizon. The statistical entropy of stationary dilaton black hole yielded by standard Cardy formula agree with its Bekenstein-Hawking entropy only if we take period $ T$ of function $v$ as the periodicity of the Euclidean black hole. On the other hand, if we consider first-order quantum correction then the entropy contains a logarithmic term with a factor $-{1/2}$, wh…
Many recent attempts to calculate black hole entropy from first principles rely on conformal field theory techniques. By examining the logarithmic corrections to the Cardy formula, I compute the first-order quantum correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in several models, including those based on asymptotic symmetries, horizon symmetries, and certain string theories. Despite very different physical assumptions, these models all give a correction proportional to the logarithm of the horizon size, and agree qualitatively with recent results from ``quantum geometry'' in 3+1 dimensions. Ther…
We generalize the results of hep-th/0008140 to the case of the (n+1)-dimensional closed FRW universe satisfying a general equation of state of the form p=wρ. We find that the entropy of the universe can no longer be expressed in a form similar to the Cardy formula, when w\neq 1/n. As a result, in general the entropy formula does not coincide with the Friedmann equation when the conjectured bound on the Casimir energy is saturated. Furthermore, the conjectured bound on the Casimir energy generally does not lead to the Hubble and the Bekenstein entropy bounds.
In this paper we show that the entropy of black hole horizon in charged rotating BTZ space-time can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension.
The holographic principle in a radiation dominated universe, as discussed first by Verlinde (2000), is extended so as to incorporate the case of a bulk-viscous cosmic fluid. This corresponds to a non-conformally invariant theory. Generalization of the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula to the viscous case appears to be formally possible, although on physical grounds one may question some elements in this type of theory, especially the manner in which the Casimir energy is evaluated. Also, we consider the observation made by Youm (2002),namely that the entropy of the universe is no longer expressib…
The Cardy-Verlinde formula is further verified by using the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ and Kerr-Newman-dS$_4$ black holes. In the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ spacetime, we find that, for strongly coupled CFTs with AdS duals, to cast the entropy of the CFT into the Cardy-Verlinde formula the Casimir energy must contains the terms $ -n ({\mathcal{J}} Ω_H+ \frac{QΦ}{2}+ \frac{QΦ_0}{2})$, which associate with rotational and electric potential energies, and the extensive energy includes the term $-Q Φ_0$. For the Kerr-Newman-dS$_4$ black hole, we note that the Casimir energy is negative but the extensive energy i…
We report full agreement between the Bekenstein-Hawking semiclassical entropy and Cardy's formula for black holes in 3d (massive) bigravity. Since this theory does have local bulk local excitations (a massive graviton) and black holes are not locally AdS this example provides a non-trivial test of the robustness of the Cardy formula.
We analyze different types of quantum corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe and in an (anti)-de Sitter space. In all cases we show that quantum corrections can be represented by an effective cosmological constant which is then used to redefine the parameters entering the Cardy-Verlinde formula so that it becomes valid also with quantum corrections, a fact that we interpret as a further indication of its universality. A proposed relation between Cardy-Verlinde formula and the ADM Hamiltonian constraint is given.
In this paper we discuss the question of whether the entropy of cosmological horizon in Topological Reissner-Nordström- de Sitter spaces can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension. Furthermore, we find that the entropy of black hole horizon can also be rewritten in terms of the Cardy-Verlinde formula for these black holes in de Sitter spaces, if we use the definition due to Abbott and Deser for conserved charges in asymptotically de Sitter spaces. Our result is in favour of the dS/CFT correspondence.
We derive a Cardy-Verlinde-like formula which relates the entropy of the closed FRW universe to its energy, and Casimir energy, for a multicomponent coupled fluid. The generalized fluid obeys an inhomogeneous equation of state. A viscous dark fluid is included, and we include also modified gravity using its fluid representation. It is demonstrated how such an expression reduces to the standard Cardy-Verlinde formula corresponding to the 2d CFT entropy only in some special cases. The dynamical entropy bound for a closed FRW universe with dark components is obtained. The universality of the dyna…
In three dimensions, we consider the Einstein-Maxwell Lagrangian dressed by a nonminimally coupled scalar field in New Massive Gravity. For this theory, we provide two families of electrically charged Lifshitz black holes where their metric functions depend only on an integration constant. We calculate their masses using the quasilocal approach, as well as their entropy and electric charge. These charged configurations are interpreted as extremal in the sense that the mass vanishes identically while the entropy and electric charge are non zero thermodynamic quantities. Using these examples, we…
In this paper we show that the entropy of a cosmological horizon in topological Reissner-Nordström- de Sitter and Kerr-Newman-de Sitter spaces can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any number of dimension. Furthermore, we find that the entropy of a black hole horizon can also be rewritten in terms of the Cardy-Verlinde formula for these black holes in de Sitter spaces, if we use the definition due to Abbott and Deser for conserved charges in asymptotically de Sitter spaces. Such result presume a well-defined dS/C…
In this paper we show that the entropy of cosmological horizon in 4-dimensional Topological Kerr-Newman-de Sitter spaces can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension. Furthermore, we find that the entropy of black hole horizon can also be rewritten in terms of the Cardy-Verlinde formula for these black holes in de Sitter spaces, if we use the definition due to Abbott and Deser for conserved charges in asymptotically de Sitter spaces. Such result presume a well-defined dS/CFT correspondence, which has not y…
The Kerr/CFT correspondence employs the Cardy formula to compute the entropy of the left moving CFT states. This computation, which correctly reproduces the Bekenstein--Hawking entropy of the four-dimensional extremal Kerr black hole, is performed in a regime where the temperature is of order unity rather than in a high-temperature regime. We show that the comparison of the entropy of the extreme Kerr black hole and the entropy in the CFT can be understood within the Cardy regime by considering a D0-D6 system with the same entropic properties.
We consider the conformal field theory which is dual to the Taub-Bolt-AdS spacetime. It is shown that the Cardy-Verlinde formula for the entropy of the conformal field theory agrees precisely with the entropy of the Taub-Bolt-AdS spacetime, at high temperatures. This result may be viewed as providing a conformal field theory interpretation of Taub-Bolt-AdS entropy.
We discuss the Cardy limit of 3d supersymmetric partition functions which allow the factorization into the hemisphere indices: the generalized superconformal index, the refined topologically twisted index and the squashed sphere partition function. In the Cardy limit, the hemisphere index can be evaluated by the saddle point approximation where there exists a dominant saddle point contribution, which we call the Cardy block. The Cardy block turns out to be a simple but powerful object as it is a building block of other partition functions in the Cardy limit. The factorization to the Cardy bloc…
In this paper we discuss the question of whether the entropy of cosmological horizon in some asymptotically de Sitter spaces can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension. For the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution, although the gravitational mass is always negative (in the sense of the prescription in hep-th/0110108 to calculate the conserved charges of asymptotically de Sitter spaces), we find that indeed the entropy of cosmological horizon can be given by using naively the Cardy-Verlinde formula. The entro…
Using gauge formulation of gravity the three-dimensional SU(2) YM theory equations of motion are presented in equivalent form as FRW cosmological equations. With the radiation, the particular (periodic, big bang-big crunch) three-dimensional universe is constructed. Cosmological entropy bounds (so-called Cardy-Verlinde formula) have the standard form in such universe. Mapping such universe back to YM formulation we got the thermal solution of YM theory. The corresponding holographic entropy bounds (Cardy-Verlinde formula) in YM theory are constructed. This indicates to universal character of h…
Various studies have explored the possibility of explaining the Bekenstein-Hawking (black hole) entropy by way of some suitable state-counting procedure. Notably, many of these treatments have used the well-known Cardy formula as an intermediate step. Our current interest is a recent calculation in which Carlip has deduced the leading-order quantum correction to the (otherwise) classical Cardy formula. In this paper, we apply Carlip's formulation to the case of a generic model of two-dimensional gravity with coupling to a dilaton field. We find that the corrected Cardy entropy includes the ant…
In this paper it is shown that the entropy of the black hole horizon in the Achucarro-Ortiz spacetime, which is the most general two-dimensional black hole derived from the three-dimensional rotating BTZ black hole, can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula. The latter is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension.
We study the entropy of a FRW universe filled with dark energy (cosmological constant, quintessence or phantom). For general or time-dependent equation of state $p=wρ$ the entropy is expressed in terms of energy, Casimir energy, and $w$. The correspondent expression reminds one about 2d CFT entropy only for conformal matter. At the same time, the cosmological Cardy-Verlinde formula relating three typical FRW universe entropies remains to be universal for any type of matter. The same conclusions hold in modified gravity which represents gravitational alternative for dark energy and which contai…
In this letter, we investigate a possible modification to the temperature and entropy of $5-$dimensional Schwarzschild anti de Sitter black holes due to incorporating stringy corrections to the modified uncertainty principle. Then we subsequently argue for corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde formula in order to account for the corrected entropy. Then we show, one can taking into account the generalized uncertainty principle corrections of the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula by just redefining the Virasoro operator $L_0$ and the central charge $c$.
't Hooft anomalies are known to induce specific contributions to the effective action at finite temperature. We present a general method to directly calculate such contributions from the anomaly polynomial of a given theory, including a term which involves a $U(1)$ connection for the thermal circle isometry. Based on this observation, we show that the asymptotic behavior of the superconformal index of $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ theories on the "second sheet" can be calculated by integrating the anomaly polynomial on a particular background. The integration is then performed by an equivariant method …
In this paper we compute leading order correction due to small statistical fluctuations around equilibrium, to the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula (which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension) of a Topological Reissner-Nordstrom black hole in de Sitter space.
We study the superconformal index of 6d SCFTs from their 't Hooft anomalies. In the Cardy limit where the angular momenta on $S^5$ are large, we show that the leading free energy, as well as a few subleading corrections, can be computed from the 6d anomaly polynomials. Our large $N$ free energy accounts for the entropy of supersymmetric black holes in dual $AdS_7$.
A Cardy formula for 6d superconformal field theories (SCFTs) conjectured by Di Pietro and Komargodski in [1] governs the universal behavior of the supersymmetric partition function on $S^1_β\times S^5$ in the limit of small $β$ and fixed squashing of the $S^5$. For a general 6d SCFT, we study its 5d effective action, which is dominated by the supersymmetric completions of perturbatively gauge-invariant Chern-Simons terms in the small $β$ limit. Explicitly evaluating these supersymmetric completions gives the precise squashing dependence in the Cardy formula. For SCFTs with a pure Higgs branch …
We consider supersymmetric theories on a space with compact space-like slices. One can count BPS representations weighted by (-1)^F, or, equivalently, study supersymmetric partition functions by compactifying the time direction. A special case of this general construction corresponds to the counting of short representations of the superconformal group. We show that in four-dimensional N=1 theories the "high temperature" asymptotics of such counting problems is fixed by the anomalies of the theory. Notably, the combination a-c of the trace anomalies plays a crucial role. We also propose similar…
We consider the superconformal index of three-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric field theories computed via localization on $S^1\times S^2$. We systematically develop an expansion where the ratio of the radius of $S^1$ to the radius of $S^2$ is taken very small -- a Cardy-like expansion. We emphasize the sub-leading structures in this Cardy-like expansion as well as their interplay with the large-$N$ limit for theories with gauge group of the form product of $U(N)$ factors. We demonstrate that taking the large-$N$ limit first leads to an expression for the index that only includes terms …
In this note we calculate the Casimir effect of free thermal gravitons in Einstein universe and discuss how it changes the entropy bound condition proposed recently by Verlinde [hep-th/0008140] as a higher dimensional generalization of Cardy's formula for conformal field theories (CFT). We find that the graviton's Casimir effect is necessary in order not to violate Verlinde's bound for weakly coupled CFT. We also comment on the implication of this new Cardy's formula to the thermodynamics of black $p$-brane.
In this paper we calculate leading order correction due to small statistical fluctuations around equilibrium, to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula for the Achucarro-Oritz black hole, which is the most general two-dimensional black hole derived from the three-dimensional rotating Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole. Then we obtain the same correction to the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula (which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension).
E. Verlinde obtained a generalized formula for the entropy of a conformal field theory. For this we consider a (n+1) dimensional closed radiation dominated FLWR in the context of the holographic principle. In this work we construct a extension of the Cardy-Verlinde formula to positive cosmological constant spaces (dS spaces) with arbitrary topology
If we separate energy in a holographic theory into an extensive part and an intrinsic part, where the extensive part is given by the cosmological constant, and assume entropy be given by the Gibbon-Hawking formula, the Cardy-Verlinde formula then implies an intrinsic part which agrees with a term recently proposed by Hsu and Zee. Moreover, the cosmological constant so derived is in the form of the holographic dark energy, and the coefficient is just the one proposed recently by Li. If we replace the entropy by the so-called Hubble bound, we show that the Cardy-Verlinde formula is the same as t…
In this paper, we have shown that the entropy of the Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole in Ho$\check{\textbf{r}}$ava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity can be expressed by the Cardy-Verlinde formula. The later is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension.
The Cardy-Verlinde formula is generalized to the asymptotically flat rotating charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell theory and low-energy effective field theory describing string by using some typical spacetimes, such as the Kerr-Newman, Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-axion, Kaluza-Klein, and Sen black holes. For the Kerr-Newman black hole, the definition of the Casimir energy takes the same form as that of the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ and Kerr-Newman-dS$_4$ black holes, while the Cardy-Verlinde formula possesses different from since the Casimir energy does not appear in the extensive energy. The E…
Choi, Kim, Kim, and Nahmgoong have recently pioneered analyzing a Cardy-like limit of the superconformal index of the 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ theory with complexified fugacities which encodes the entropy of the dual supersymmetric AdS$_5$ blackholes. Here we study the Cardy-like asymptotics of the index within the rigorous framework of elliptic hypergeometric integrals, thereby filling a gap in their derivation of the blackhole entropy function, finding a new blackhole saddle-point, and demonstrating novel bifurcation phenomena in the asymptotics of the index as a function of fugacity phases. We al…
Recent derivations of Cardy-like formulae in higher dimensional field theories have opened up a way of computing, via AdS/CFT, universal contributions to black hole entropy from gravitational Chern-Simons terms. Based on the manifestly covariant formulation of the differential Noether charge for Chern-Simons terms proposed in arXiv:1407.6364, we compute the entropy and asymptotic charges for the rotating charged AdS black holes in higher dimensions at leading order of the fluid/gravity derivative expansion in the Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons system. This gives a result that exactly matches th…
Starting from the surface term of gravitational action, one can construct a Virasoro algebra with central extension, with which the horizon entropy can be derived by using Cardy formula. This approach gives a new routine to calculate and interpret the horizon entropy. In this paper, we generalize this approach to a more general case, the isolated horizon, which contains non-stationary spacetimes beyond stationary ones. By imposing appropriate boundary conditions near the horizon, the full set of diffeomorphism is restricted to a subset where the corresponding Noether charges form a Virasoro al…
In a recent paper hep-th/0008140 by E. Verlinde, an interesting formula has been put forward, which relates the entropy of a conformal formal field in arbitrary dimensions to its total energy and Casimir energy. This formula has been shown to hold for the conformal field theories that have AdS duals in the cases of AdS Schwarzschild black holes and AdS Kerr black holes. In this paper we further check this formula with various black holes with AdS asymptotics. For the hyperbolic AdS black holes, the Cardy-Verlinde formula is found to hold if we choose the ``massless'' black hole as the ground s…
We study the brane with arbitrary tension $σ$ on the edge of various black holes with AdS asymptotics. We investigate Friedmann equations governing the motion of the brane universes and match the Friedmann equation to Cardy entropy formula.
Recently, it was shown that the entropy of the black hole horizon in the Achucarro-Ortiz spacetime can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula. In this paper, we compute the self-gravitational corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde formula of the two-dimensional Achucarro-Ortiz black hole. These corrections stem from the effect of self-gravitation and they are derived in the context of Keski-Vakkuri, Kraus and Wilczek (KKW) analysis. The black hole under study is therefore treated as a dynamical background. The self-gravitational corrections to the entropy as given by the Cardy-Verlinde formula …
In this letter, we compute the corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde formula of $d-$dimensional Schwarzschild black hole. These corrections stem from the generalized uncertainty principle. Then we show, one can taking into account the generalized uncertainty principle corrections of the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula by just redefining the Virasoro operator $L_0$ and the central charge $c$.
We discuss the holographic principle in a radiation-dominated, closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with a positive cosmological constant. By introducing a cosmological D-bound on the entropy of matter in the universe, we can write the Friedmann equation governing the evolution of the universe in the form of the Cardy formula. When the cosmological D-bound is saturated, the Friedmann equation coincides with the Cardy-Verlinde formula describing the entropy of radiation in the universe. As a concrete model, we consider a brane universe in the background of Schwarzschild-de Sitter bl…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the (modified) superconformal index for 4d $\mathcal{N} = 1$ gauge theory. By considering complexified chemical potential, we find that the `high-temperature limit' of the index can be written in terms of the conformal anomalies $3c-2a$. We also find macroscopic entropy from our asymptotic free energy when the Hofman-Maldacena bound $1/2 < a/c < 3/2$ for the interacting SCFT is satisfied. We study $\mathcal{N} = 1$ theories that are dual to AdS$_5 \times Y^{p, p}$ and find that the Cardy limit of our index accounts for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large…
We propose that Strominger's method to derive the BTZ black hole entropy is in fact applicable to other asymptotically AdS_3 black holes and gives the correct functional form of entropies. We discuss various solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell theory, dilaton gravity, Einstein-scalar theories, and Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. In some cases, solutions approach AdS_3 asymptotically, but their entropies do not have the form of Cardy's formula. However, it turns out that they are actually not "asymptotically $AdS_3$" solutions. On the other hand, for truly asymptotically AdS_3 solutions, their e…
We continue the study of thermodynamics of black holes in de Sitter spaces. In a previous paper (hep-th/0111093), we have shown that the entropy of cosmological horizon in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution and topological de Sitter solution can be expressed in a form of the Cardy-Verlinde formula, if one adopts the prescription to compute the gravitational mass from data at early or late time infinity of de Sitter space. However, this definition of gravitational mass cannot give a similar expression like the Cardy-Verlinde formula for the entropy associated with the horizon of black holes i…
In this letter, we compute the corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde formula of $4-$dimensional Kerr black hole. These corrections are considered within the context of KKW analysis and arise as a result of the self-gravitational effect. Then we show, one can taking into account the semiclassical corrections of the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula by just redefining the Virasoro operator $L_0$ and the central charge $c$.
