Dispersion relations---a corollary of unitarity and analyticity---are among the few methods which can be employed to study low energy processes in QCD. In this work we critically revisit the calculation of decay widths of a hypothetical light scalar boson into pions and kaons. Strong interactions of the mesons in the final state affect these decays significantly. We argue that applications of the dispersion relations to the calculation of these decay widths, which are present in the literature, rely on an uncontrollable approximation of the reduced S-matrix. When a limited number of initial and final decay channels are considered, in general neither a unitary S-matrix nor its version corrected by an inelasticity factor are justified. The scalar form factor calculation provides a transparent example to illustrate this statement. Therefore, the results of this calculation, which are important for theoretical, cosmological and experimental applications, must be treated with caution. Our work, therefore, calls for a breakthrough in the understanding of the dispersion relations of realistic many-channel systems.
Motivated by the persisting 'anomaly' in the measurement of $P_5^\prime$, we review hadronic uncertainties entering the angular observables of the decay $\bar B\to {\bar K}^*μ^+μ^-$. We argue that hadronic uncertainties could account for the present measurements. We discuss how to extract information on the non-factorizable hadronic contribution from experimental data exploiting its $q^2$ dependence and propose a parametrization optimized for this purpose. While no clear conclusion can be drawn with present experimental uncertainties, we show that future measurements should be able to pin down…
We illustrate how the measurements of the CP asymmetries in $B^0_{d,s}$-decays together with a measurement of $Br(K_L\to π^\circν\barν)$ or $Br(K^+\to π^+ν\barν)$ and the known value of $\mid V_{us}\mid $ can determine all elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix essentially without any hadronic uncertainties. An analysis using the ratio $x_d/x_s$ of $B_d-\bar B_d$ to $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixings is also presented.
The fourth generation can give the correct trend of S_{phi K^0}, S_{pi^0 K^0} < sin2phi_1/beta, as indicated by data, and the effect, being largely leading order, is robust against hadronic uncertainties. The effect on S_{eta' K^0}, however, is diluted away by hadronic effects, and S_{eta' K^0} \simeq sin2phi_1/beta is expected. The near maximal arg[V^*_{t's}V_{t'b}] \lesssim 90^\circ that is needed could resolve the unequal direct CP violation seen in B -> K^+ pi^- and K^+ pi^0 modes, and is consistent with b ->s l^+l^- and B_s mixing constraints.
There are now two single measurements of precision observables that have major anomalies in the Standard Model: the recent CDF measurement of the $W$ mass shows a $7σ$ deviation and the Muon $g-2$ experiment at FNAL confirmed a long-standing anomaly, implying a $4.2 σ$ deviation. Doubts regarding new physics interpretations of these anomalies could stem from uncertainties in the common hadronic contributions. We demonstrate that these two anomalies pull the hadronic contributions in opposite directions by performing electroweak fits in which the hadronic contribution was allowed to float. The …
Recent neutrino oscillation experiments used high atomic number nuclear targets to attain sufficient interaction rates. The use of these complex targets introduced systematic uncertainties due to the nuclear effects in the experimental observables and need to be measured properly to pin down the discovery. Through this simulation work, we are trying to quantify the nuclear effects in the argon (Ar) target in comparison to hydrogen (H) target which are proposed to be used at Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment far detector and near detector, respectively. Generates Events for Neutrino Interact…
Higgs boson production rates at hadron colliders are reviewed with particular emphasis on progress in the calculation of higher order QCD effects. Emphasis is placed on the uncertainties in the predictions for Higgs boson production. A firm understanding of these uncertainties is crucial for extracting new physics signals.
We give the first estimate of charmless scalar meson emitting weak hadronic decays of 0 $\Lembda_{b}^{0}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}^{-}$ bottom baryons employing the pole model and consequently predict their branching ratios.
To achieve appropriate interaction rates in recent neutrino oscillation studies, high atomic number nuclear targets were utilized. Because of the nuclear effects in the experimental observable, the utilization of these complicated targets produced systematic uncertainties that needed to be assessed accurately to constrain the discovery. We made an effort to calculate the nuclear effects in the Ar and H targets, which are intended to be employed at the DUNE distant and near detectors, respectively, through our simulation effort. The DUNE flux is peaking around 2.5 GeV and CCRES is the dominant …
Properties of scalar mesons below 1.0 GeV have been studied by regarding them as hadronic molecular states. Using the effective Lagrangian approach, we have calculated their leptonic decays, strong decays and productions via the $ϕ$ meson radiative decays. Comparing our results with that given in the literature and the data, we conclude that it is difficult to arrange them in the same nonet if some of them are pure hadronic molecules.
We discuss the hadronic molecule issue in the light and heavy meson sector. Thereby we use the radiative decays of the scalars f0(980) and a0(980) to study its possible molecular K barK structure. Further on we extend our formalism to mesons with open charm and strangeness, Ds0*(2317) and Ds1(2460), whose hadronic molecule interpretation is analyzed in weak decays with f0(980) in the final state.
The recent data for $J/ψ$ hadronic decays from BES raise ``puzzles" about the scalar meson properties, which are different from the naive OZI rule expectation. In this work, we study the implications of a glueball-$Q\bar{Q}$ mixing scheme in the scalar meson productions in $J/ψ$ hadronic decays. We show that the significant OZI violations in $J/ψ\to V f_0^i$ ($i=1,2,3$ correspond to $f_0(1710)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1370)$, respectively) are consistent with the requirement of strong glueball-$Q\bar{Q}$ mixings within the scalar meson wavefunctions.
In light of recent LHC results for the extraction of the $B_s$ mixing phase $ϕ_s$, we can already conclude that if New Physics (NP) is present in this observable, it is hiding pretty well. Thus, as our hunt continues, we must be weary not to confuse NP for penguin effects, or vice versa. In this talk the progress made towards addressing hadronic uncertainties in extractions of $ϕ_s$ from $B_s\to J/ψϕ$ is reviewed, and the nature of the scalar $f_0(980)$ state, which plays a dominant role in the extraction of $ϕ_s$ from the $B_s\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ decay, is discussed.
We review the status of the QCD corrected cross sections and kinematic distributions for the production of a Higgs boson in association with top quark or bottom quark pairs at the Fermilab Tevatron and at the LHC. Results for b-bbar-H production are presented in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model, where the rates can be greatly enhanced relative to the Standard Model rates. We place particular emphasis on theoretical uncertainties due to renormalization and factorization scale dependence and on the uncertainties coming from the Parton Distribution Functions.
We calculate the mass shifts of heavy-light scalar mesons due to hadronic loops under the assumption that these vanish for the groundstate heavy-light mesons. The results show that the masses calculated in quark models can be reduced significantly. We stress that the mass alone is not a signal for a molecular interpretation. Both the resulting mass and the width suggest the observed $D_0^*$ state could be a dressed $c\bar q$ state. We give further predictions for the bottom scalar mesons which can be used to test the dressing mechanism.
We determine the uncertainty on the strong coupling alpha_S due to the experimental errors on the data fitted in global analysis of hard-scattering data, within the standard framework of leading-twist fixed-order collinear factorisation in the MSbar scheme, finding that alpha_S(M_Z^2) = 0.1202^{+0.0012}_{-0.0015} at next-to-leading order (NLO) and alpha_S(M_Z^2) = 0.1171^{+0.0014}_{-0.0014} at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). We do not address in detail the issue of the additional theory uncertainty on alpha_S(M_Z^2), but an estimate is +/-0.003 at NLO and at most +/-0.002 at NNLO. We inv…
The uncertainties in estimating the hadronic production of the $B_c$ meson are studied under the framework of the complete $α_s^4$ approach of the perturbative QCD and the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism. Quantitative comparisons on the production at TEVATRON and LHC are made. Considering the detectors at TEVATRON and LHC, we have also estimated the production with proper kinematic cuts. Based on the results, we conclude that the experimental studies of the $B_c$ meson at the two colliders will be complimentary and stimulative. We find that as c.m. energy is increasing from RUN-I to RUN-II at TEV…
We discuss the scalar meson mixing scenario and present an OZI rule violation mechanism for understanding the scalar productions in charmoium hadronic decays. We stress that the OZI violation could play a key role in disentangling the structure of the scalars: $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$.
We evaluate the contribution of scalar mesons to the hadronic light-by-light piece of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, using a warped five-dimensional model and holographic methods. We assess the contribution of the lightest, sub-GeV scalars $σ(500)$, $a_0(980)$ and $f_0(980)$ together with their associated towers of excited states, which the model generates automatically. Our results point at a clearly negative contribution, overwhelmingly dominated by the $σ(500)$ meson, that we estimate at $a_μ^{\rm{HLbL,S}}=-9(2)\cdot 10^{-11}$. This number is in very good agreement with the most recent…
We discuss the ratio of hadronic to leptonic tau-decays, that can be expanded in an operator product expansion. The sensitivity to the strange mass is increased, if only the flavor-breaking difference of strange to non-strange currents is considered, which leaves us with terms that are at leading order proportional to m_s^2. In this sum rule the scalar channel exhibits a very bad convergence behavior in the perturbation series, that we control by replacing the scalar OPE with a phenomenological ansatz for the scalar and pseudoscalar spectral functions. The spectral ansatz is compared to the th…
We revisit the question of hadronic decays of a GeV-mass Higgs-like scalar. A number of extensions of the Standard Model predict Higgs sector with additional light scalars. Currently operating and planned Intensity Frontier experiments will probe for the existence of such particles, while theoretical computations are plagued by uncer- tainties. The goal of this paper is to bring the results in a consolidated form that can be readily used by experimental groups. To this end we provide a physically motivated fitting ansatz for the decay width that reproduces the previous non-perturbative nu- mer…
Time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements in $D\to h^+h^-$ decays, where $h=π$ or $ρ$ can be used to constrain the angle $β_c$ of the $cu$ unitarity triangle up to theoretical uncertainties. Here we discuss the theoretical uncertainty from penguin contributions that can be mitigated through the use of isospin analyses. We show that uncertainty from penguin pollution on a measurement of $β_c$ (or alternatively the mixing phase) in $D^0\to π^+π^-$ ($ρ^+ρ^-$) decays is $2.7^\circ$ ($4.6^\circ$). We also comment on the applicability of this method to $D^0\toρπ$ decays for which measurements of weak…
We critically re-examine the calculation of central production of dijets in quasi-elastic hadronic collisions. We find that the process is not dominated by the perturbative contribution, and discuss several sources of uncertainties in the calculation.
We re-analyze hadronic decays of B mesons to a pseudoscalar (P) and a tensor meson (T), or a vector meson (V) and a tensor meson, through a $b \to c$ transition. We discuss possible large uncertainties to branching ratios (BR's) of the relevant modes, mainly arising from uncertainties to the hadronic form factors for the $B \to T$ transition. The BR's and CP asymmetries for $B \to PT$ and VT decays are then calculated by using the form factors given in the ISGW2 model (the improved version of the original Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise (ISGW) model). We find that the estimated BR's of many modes a…
The perturbative quark-mass corrections to the $τ$ hadronic width are analysed to $O(α_s^3 m_q^2)$, using the presently available theoretical information. The behaviour of the perturbative series is investigated in order to assess the associated uncertainties. The implications for the determination of the strange quark mass from $τ$ decay data are discussed.
We analyze the electromagnetic and strong decay properties of the light scalars a0(980) and f0(980) within a hadronic molecule interpretation. Both scalars are discussed within a covariant and gauge invariant model which also allows for finite size effects due to their spatially extended structure in the K Kbar-bound state picture. Allowing for f0-a0 mixing we also study its influence on the radiative decays f0/a0 to gamma gamma, f0/a0 to gamma omega, and f0/a0 to gamma rho as well as the phi production of the f0 and a0. Furthermore, we apply our formalism to describe the strong f0 to pi pi an…
We discuss some topics concerning exclusive non-leptonic B decays. In particular we focus on Bs->KK decays, for which we present complementary predictions within the SM, as well as the impact that SUSY would have on the CP observables. We also present an analysis of Bs->VV decays that allows to measure the mixing angle of the Bs system. We make special emphasis on the control of hadronic uncertainties.
We study the role of the scalar resonances f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710) in the strong and radiative three-body decays of J/psi with J/psi to V + P P (gamma gamma) and J/psi to gamma + P P (V V), where P (V) denotes a pseudoscalar (vector) meson. We assume that the scalars result from a glueball-quarkonium mixing scheme while the dynamics of the transition process is described in an effective chiral Lagrangian approach. Present data on J/psi to V + P P are well reproduced, predictions for the radiative processes serve as further tests of this scenario.
We review the uncertainties in the spin-independent and -dependent elastic scattering cross sections of supersymmetric dark matter particles on protons and neutrons. We propagate the uncertainties in quark masses and hadronic matrix elements that are related to the $π$-nucleon $σ$ term and the spin content of the nucleon. By far the largest single uncertainty is that in spin-independent scattering induced by our ignorance of the $<N | {\bar q} q | N>$ matrix elements linked to the $π$-nucleon $σ$ term, which affects the ratio of cross sections on proton and neutron targets as well as their abs…
In the article of V.V. Anisovich et al., Yad. Fiz. 63, 1489 (2000), the K-matrix solutions for the wave IJ^{PC}=00^{++} were obtained in the mass region 450 - 1900 MeV where four resonances f0(980), f0(1300), f0(1500), f0(1750) and the broad state f0(1530^{+90}_{-250}) are located. Based on these solutions, we determine partial widths for scalar-isoscalar states decaying into the channels pi-pi, K-anti K, eta-eta, eta-eta', pi-pi-pi-pi and corresponding decay couplings.
We re-examine the hadronic loop effects to the masses of $D^*_0$ and $D^*_{s0}$ calculated in quark models in the framework of heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMCHPT). The inaccuracy in the choice of the argument of the chiral loop functions in previous works is corrected. Our calculations consider the full one-loop corrections that appear at leading order in the chiral expansion of the effective Lagrangian. Unlike previous approaches, ours leads to satisfactory results in explaining the low mass of the observed scalar charm states reported by the Particle Data Group (PDG). It is found…
We make an analysis of the hadronic invariant mass spectrum in inclusive charmless semileptonic B meson decays in a QCD-based approach. The decay width is studied as a function of the invariant mass cut. We examine their sensitivities to the parameters of the theory. The theoretical uncertainties in the determination of $|V_{ub}|$ from the hadronic invariant mass spectrum are investigated. A strategy for improving the theoretical accuracy in the value of $|V_{ub}|$ is described.
Using an effective σ/f_0(500) resonance, which describes the ππ-->ππand γγ-->ππscattering data, we evaluate its contribution and the ones of the other scalar mesons to the the hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) scattering component of the anomalous magnetic moment a_μof the muon. We obtain the conservative range of values: \sum_S~a_μ^{lbl}\vert_S = -(4.51+- 4.12) 10^{-11}, which is dominated by the σ/f_0(500) contribution ( 50%~98%), and where the large error is due to the uncertainties on the parametrisation of the form factors. Considering our new result, we update the sum of the different theor…
The discovery of New Physics, using weak decays of mesons is difficult due to intractable strong interaction effects needed to describe it. We show how the multitude of "related observables" obtained from B\to K^* \ell^+\ell^-, can provide many new "clean tests" of the Standard Model. The hallmark of these tests is that several of them are independent of the unknown form factors required to describe the decay using heavy quark effective theory. We derive a relation between observables that is free of form factors and Wilson coefficients, the violation of which will be an unambiguous signal of …
The total $τ$ hadronic width can be accurately calculated using analyticity and the operator product expansion. The theoretical analysis of this observable is updated to include all available perturbative and non-perturbative corrections. The experimental determination of $α_s(M_τ^2)$ and its actual uncertainties are discussed.
The proposed future Large Hadron Electron Collider provides sufficient center of mass energies, $\sqrt{s}$, to probe heavy particles decaying into $W^\pm(Z)-$boson of mass $>2m_W$ $(2m_Z)$. In this work we present a study to produce one such heavy $C P$ even scalar $H$ of mass $2m_h < m_H < 2 m_t$ through charged-current production mode where $H \to W^+W^-$, where hadronic decay of $W^\pm-$boson is considered to reconstruct $m_H$. Due to the presence of missing energy and forward jet in this channel, it is challenging to reconstruct $m_H$ with above final state and thus we employed three diffe…
Gaussian sum-rules relate a QCD prediction to a two-parameter Gaussian-weighted integral of a hadronic spectral function, providing a clear conceptual connection to quark-hadron duality. In contrast to Laplace sum-rules, the Gaussian sum-rules exhibit enhanced sensitivity to excited states of the hadronic spectral function. The formulation of Gaussian sum-rules and associated analysis techniques for extracting hadronic properties from the sum-rules are reviewed and applied to scalar gluonium. With the inclusion of instanton effects, the Gaussian sum-rule analysis results in a consistent scenar…
We present an update of the branching ratios for Higgs decays in the Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. In particular, the decays of the Higgs particles to quark and gluon jets are analyzed and the spread in the theoretical predictions due to uncertainties of the quark masses and the QCD coupling is discussed.
The dominant theoretical uncertainties in both, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the value of the electromagnetic coupling at the Z scale arise from their hadronic contributions. Since these will ultimately dominate the experimental errors, we study the correlation between them, as well as with other fundamental parameters. To this end we present analytical formulas for the QCD contribution from higher energies and from heavy quarks. Including these correlations affects the Higgs boson mass extracted from precision data.
In these lectures I discuss the impact of soft hadronic physics on predictions for B decays. Unfortunately our tools for calculating these effects are limited; even after the use of the best available tools the resulting theoretical uncertainties are difficult to delimit, and can obscure tests for the presence of beyond-Standard-Model physics. The first lecture reviews what tools are available, the second reviews in more detail two examples of how these tools can be used.
We show how to avoid unnecessary and uncontrolled assumptions usually made in the literature about soft SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking in determining the two-flavor nucleon matrix elements relevant for direct detection of WIMPs. Based on SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory, we provide expressions for the proton and neutron scalar couplings $f_u^{p,n}$ and $f_d^{p,n}$ with the pion-nucleon sigma-term as the only free parameter, which should be used in the analysis of direct detection experiments. This approach for the first time allows for an accurate assessment of hadronic uncertainties in spin-i…
The hadronic screening mass at high temperature ($T$) in QCD$_4$ is examined on the basis of the QCD sum rules in (2+1) dimensions. Due to the magnetic gluon condensate at high $T$ which is expected to be nonvanishing, the screening mass deviates from the asymptotic value $2πT$. Also, the screening mass in the vector (pseudo-vector) channel turns out to be heavier than that in the scalar (pseudo-scalar) channel.
We study the hadronic production of $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ mesons within the fixed-flavor-number scheme, in which the dominant gluon-gluon fusion mechanism is dealt with by using the complete $α_s^4$ approach. Main theoretical uncertainties for $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ production at TEVATRON and LHC are presented. It is found that when $m_s$ increases by steps of 0.1 GeV, the integrated cross section of $B^{(*)}_s$ decreases by $80%-100%$, when $m_b$ increases by steps of 0.1 GeV, it changes to be $\sim 10%$. While the uncertainties caused by the parton distribution function and the factorization scale va…
In this note we present a new parametrization of the hadronic current for the decay $τ\to πππν_τ$ derived from the chiral lagrangian with explicit inclusion of resonances. We have included both scalar, vector and axial-vector resonances. For the first time, the lowest tensor resonance ($f_2(1270)$) is included as well. Both single and double-resonance contributions to the hadronic form factors are taken into account. To satisfy the correct high energy behaviour of the hadronic form factors, constraints on numerical values of the vertex constants are obtained.
The next-to-leading-order contribution to the amplitude of a two-body decay process is a triangle-shaped diagram in which the unstable state is exchanged by the emitted particles. In this work we calculate this diagram in the framework of a scalar quantum field theory and we estimate its role in hadronic physics, i.e., we apply our results to the well-known scalar-isoscalar resonances $f_{0}(500)$, $f_{0}(980)$, $f_{0}(1370)$, $f_{0}(1500)$, $f_{0}(1710)$ and the scalar-isovector resonance $a_{0}(1450)$. It turns out that, with the exception of the broad resonance $f_{0}(500)$, the next-to-lea…
We update the hadronic tau determination of |V_{us}|, showing that current strange branching fractions produce results 2-3 sigma lower than 3-family unitarity expectations. Issues related to the size of theoretical uncertainties and results from an alternate, mixed tau-electroproduction sum rule determination (which, by construction, produces a much smaller theoretical uncertainty), are also considered.
A complete calculation of the ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ perturbative QCD corrections to the hadronic decay width of the $Z$-boson has recently been performed by Baikov et al.[1]. In their analysis, Baikov et al. relied on the conventional practice of simply guessing the renormalization scale and taking an arbitrary range to estimate the pQCD uncertainties. This procedure inevitably introduces an arbitrary, scheme-dependent theoretical systematic error in the predictions. In this paper, we show that the renormalization scale uncertainties for hadronic $Z$ decays can be greatly reduced by applying the p…
We study the phenomenology of the ground-state (pseudo-)scalar charmonia $η_c$ and $χ_{c0}$ in the framework of a $U(4)_r \times U(4)_l$ symmetric linear sigma model with (pseudo-)scalar and (axial-) vector mesons. Based on previous results for the spectrum of charmonia and the spectrum and (OZI-dominant) strong decays of open charmed mesons, we extend the study of this model to OZI-suppressed charmonia decays. This includes decays into 'ordinary' mesons but also particularly interesting channels with scalar-isoscalar resonances $f_0(1370),\, f_0(1500),\, f_0(1710)$ that may include sizeable c…
In a previous report we used the Linked Dipole Chain model unintegrated gluon densities to investigate the uncertainties in the predictions for central exclusive production of scalars at hadron colliders. Here we expand this investigation by also looking at other parameterizations of the unintegrated gluon density, and look in more detail on the behavior of these at small k_T. We confirm our conclusions that the luminosity function for central exclusive production is very sensitive to this behavior. However, we also conclude that the available densities based on the CCFM and LDC evolutions are…
It is argued that radiative decays of scalars a0/f0(980) can serve as a decisive tool in establishing the nature of the latter. In particular, predictions for the widths of the radiative decays S->gamma V (S=a0/f0(980), V=omega/rho/gamma) are given in the framework of the molecule model of the scalars. Finite-range corrections are discussed in detail for the two-gamma decays of hadronic molecules, with a special attention payed to the interplay of various scales involved in the problem and to the gauge invariance of the amplitude. The results are applied to the two-photon decay of the f0(980),…
We present an analysis of non-leptonic B decays in the minimally flavour-violating MSSM with large tan(beta). We relate the Wilson coefficients of the relevant hadronic scalar operators to leptonic observables, showing that the present limits on the Bs->mu+ mu- and B+->tau nu_tau branching fractions exclude any visible effect in hadronic decays. We study the transverse helicity amplitudes of B->VV decays, which exhibit an enhanced sensitivity to the scalar operators, showing that even though an order one modification relative to the SM is not excluded in some of these amplitudes, they are too …
We investigate the correlations between the scalar meson configurations and Okuba-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) rule violations in the hadronic decays of heavy quarkonia, e.g. $J/ψ$ and $Υ$, into isoscalar vector meson ($ϕ$ and $ω$) and scalar mesons ($f_0(1710)$, $f_0(1500)$, and $f_0(1370)$). It shows that the dramatic change of the values of the branching ratio fraction of $ϕf_0/ωf_0$ from low (e.g. in $J/ψ$ decays) to high energies (e.g. in $Υ$ decays) will not only test the glueball-$Q\bar{Q}$ mixings, but also provide important information about the mysterious OZI-rule violations within the scalars…
This talk is about the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, mainly our old work but including some newer results as well. It concentrates on the model calculations. Most attention is paid to pseudo-scalar exchange and the pion loop contribution. Scalar, $a_1$-exchange and other contributions are shortly discussed as well. For the $π^0$-exchange a possible large cancellation between connected and disconnected diagrams is expected.
We apply an analytic description to the inclusive decay of the $τ$ lepton. We argue that this method gives not only a self-consistent description of the process both in the timelike region by using the initial expression for $R_τ$ and in the spacelike domain by using the analytic properties of the hadronic correlator, but also leads to the fact that theoretical uncertainties associated with unknown higher-loop contributions and renormalization scheme dependence can be reduced dramatically.
We study basic properties of scalar hadronic resonances within the so-called extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM), which is an effective model of QCD based on chiral symmetry and dilatation invariance. In particular, we focus on the mass and decay width of the scalar isovector state $a_{0}(1450)$ and perform a numerical study of the propagator pole(s) on the unphysical Riemann sheets. In this work, this meson is understood as a seed state explicitly included in the eLSM. Our results show that the inclusion of hadronic loops does not modify much the previously obtained tree-level results. Moreove…
In the absence of direct evidence for New Physics at present LHC energies, the focus is set on the anomalies and discrepancies recently observed in rare $b \to s\ell\ell$ transitions which can be interpreted as indirect hints. Global fits have shown that an economical New Physics solution can simultaneously alleviate the tensions in the various channels and can lead to a significant improvement in the description of the data. Alternative explanations within the Standard Model for part of the observed anomalies have been proposed in terms of (unexpectedly large) hadronic effects at low dilepton…
I consider the uncertainties in parton distributions and the consequences for hadronic cross-sections. There is ever-increasing sophistication in the relationship between the uncertainties of the distributions and the errors on the experimental data used to extract them. However, I demonstrate that this uncertainty is frequently subsumed by that due to the choice of data used in fits, and more surprisingly by the precise details of the theoretical framework used. Variations in heavy flavour prescriptions provide striking examples.
We review the theoretical status of b to s hadronic penguin decays in the Standard Model and beyond. We summarize the main theoretical tools to compute Branching Ratios and CP asymmetries for b to s penguin dominated nonleptonic decays, and discuss the theoretical uncertainties in the prediction of time-dependent CP asymmetries in this processes. We consider general aspects of b to s transitions beyond the Standard Model. Then we present detailed predictions in supersymmetric models with new sources of flavor and CP violation.
We study the Monte Carlo uncertainties due to modeling of hadronization and showering in the extraction of the top-quark mass from observables that use exclusive hadronic final states in top decays, such as $t \rightarrow \text{anything+J/}ψ$ or $t\rightarrow \text{anything}+(B\rightarrow \text{charged tracks})$, where $B$ is a $B$-hadron. To this end, we investigate the sensitivity of the top-quark mass, determined by means of a few observables already proposed in the literature as well as some new proposals, to the relevant parameters of event generators, such as HERWIG 6 and PYTHIA 8. We fi…
