We use the idea of partial compositeness in a minimal supersymmetric model to relate the fermion and sfermion masses. By assuming that the Higgs and third-generation matter is (mostly) elementary, while the first- and second-generation matter is (mostly) composite, the Yukawa coupling hierarchy can be explained by a linear mixing between elementary states and composite operators with large anomalous dimensions. If the composite sector also breaks supersymmetry, then composite sfermions such as selectrons are predicted to be much heavier than the lighter elementary stops. This inverted sfermion mass hierarchy is consistent with current experimental limits that prefer light stops ($\mathcal{O}(10)$ TeV) to accommodate the 125 GeV Higgs boson, while predicting heavy first- and second-generation sfermions (${\gtrsim 100}$ TeV) as indicated by flavor physics experiments. The underlying dynamics can be modelled by a dual 5D gravity theory that also predicts a gravitino dark matter candidate ($\gtrsim$ keV), together with gauginos and Higgsinos, ranging from 10-90 TeV, that are split from the heavier first- and second-generation sfermion spectrum. This intricate connection between the fermion and sfermion mass spectrum can be tested at future experiments.
We study in detail the particle spectrum in anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking models in which supersymmetry breaking terms are induced by the super-Weyl anomaly. We investigate the minimal anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking models, gaugino assisted supersymmetry breaking models, as well as models with additional residual nondecoupling D-term contributions due to an extra U(1) gauge symmetry at a high energy scale. We derive sum rules for the sparticle masses in these models which can help in differentiating between them. We also obtain the sparticle spectrum numerically, and compare…
We derive sum rules for the sparticle masses in different models of supersymmetry breaking. This includes the gravity mediated models (SUGRA models) as well as models in which supersymmetry breaking terms are induced by super-Weyl anomaly (AMSB models). These sum rules can help in distinguishing between these models. In particular we obtain an upper bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino as a function of the gluino mass in SUGRA and AMSB models.
Within the MSSM framework and with purely anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking the slepton masses turn out to be tachyonic. We resolve this problem by introducing an anomaly free U(1) gauge symmetry which provides positive $D$-term contributions to sparticle masses squared that are flavor conserving at one loop. Two realistic examples based on SU(5) are presented. With U(1) spontaneously broken at a scale $\sim 10^{16}$ GeV, the right handed neutrinos acquire masses $\stackrel{<}{_\sim}10^{14}$ GeV. This breaking scale of U(1) also plays an important role in the proposed resolution of the M…
We investigate the sparticle spectrum in models of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. In these models, supersymmetry is spontaneously broken at an energy scale only a few orders of magnitude above the electroweak scale. The breakdown of supersymmetry is communicated to the standard model particles and their superpartners by "messenger" fields through their ordinary gauge interactions. We study the effects of a messenger sector in which the supersymmetry-violating F-term contributions to messenger scalar masses are comparable to the supersymmetry-preserving ones. We also argue that it is no…
We revisit the limits on $R$-parity violation in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In particular, we focus on the high-scale supersymmetry scenario in which all the sparticles are in excess of the inflationary scale of approximately $10^{13}$ GeV, and thus no sparticles ever come into thermal equilibrium. In this case the cosmological limits, stemming from the preservation of the baryon asymmetry that have been previously applied for weak scale supersymmetry, are now relaxed. We argue that even when sparticles are never in equilibrium, $R$-parity violation is still constrained via hig…
Recently, a proposal (by R.N.M. and S.N.) was made for a new class of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) models where the standard model gauge group is embedded into the gauge group $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_{I_{3R}}\times U(1)_{B-L}$ (or $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_{B-L}$) at the supersymmetry breaking scale $Λ$. Supersymmetry breaking is transmitted to the visible sector via the same fields that are responsible for gauge symmetry breaking rather than by vector-like quarks and leptons as in the conventional GMSB models. These models have a number of attractive properties such as exa…
We explore the sparticle mass spectra including LSP dark matter within the framework of supersymmetric $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ (422) models, taking into account the constraints from extensive LHC and cold dark matter searches. The soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters at $M_{GUT}$ can be non-universal, but consistent with the 422 symmetry. We identify a variety of coannihilation scenarios compatible with LSP dark matter, and study the implications for future supersymmetry searches and the ongoing muon g-2 experiment.
In this paper, we investigate a possibility to cause supersymmetry breaking with background modulus fields in product-group gauge theories. The vacuum expectation values of these moduli are found to satisfy several relations and the moduli dependences of the action are fixed by consistency of the model. With this action, we calculate the mass spectrum of vector and matter multiplets up to one-loop order of perturbation theory. As an application of the result, it is found that various properties of higher-dimensional supersymmetry breaking are well captured in corresponding limits in the moduli…
The supersymmetric standard model with supergravity-inspired soft breaking terms predicts a rich pectrum of sparticles to be discovered at the SSC, LHC and NLC. Because there are more supersymmetric particles than unknown parameters, one can write down sum rules relating their masses. We discuss the pectrum of sparticles from this point of view. Some of the sum rules do not depend on the input parameters and can be used to test the consistency of the model, while others are useful in determining the input parameters of the theory. If supersymmetry is discovered but the sum rules turn out to be…
The present knowledge of the dark matter discovery and measurement potential of the LHC is reviewed, in the framework of Supersymmetry with R-parity conservation.
Off-shell supersymmetry, which restricts sparticles to appear only off-shell, solves the gauge hierarchy problem and unifies the gauge couplings in the usual way. Without introducing any new interactions or exacerbating the naturalness, this idea has been proposed to evade the direct detection bounds on sparticles. The original realization of off-shell supersymmetry relies on applying a generalized quantization scheme solely to sparticles. In this paper, we formulate off-shell supersymmetry from the path-integral approach.
We analyze the implications of the new physics effect seen in the $g-2$ Brookhaven measurement and show that if the effect arises from supersymmetry, then the sign of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$ is determined to be positive in the standard sign convention. Further, analyses within the minimal supergravity model show that the Brookhaven result leads to upper limits on the universal gaugino and scalar masses of $m_{1/2}\leq 800$ GeV and $m_0\leq 1.5$ TeV for $\tanβ\leq 55$. Our analysis strongly suggests that supersymmetry via production of sparticles must be found at the Large Hadron Collide…
We explore the potential of electron-photon colliders to measure fundamental supersymmetry parameters via the processes $eγ\to \tilde e \tildeχ^0$ (selectron-neutralino) and $eγ\to \tildeν\tildeχ^-$ (sneutrino-chargino). Given the $\tildeχ^0$ and $\tildeχ^-$ masses from $e^+e^-$ and hadron collider studies, cross section ratios $σ(γ_-)/σ(γ_+)$ for opposite photon helicities determine the $\tildeν_L$, $\tilde e_L$ and $\tilde e_R$ masses, independent of the sparticle branching fractions. The difference $m_{\tildeν_L}^2-m_{\tilde e_L}^2$ measures $M_W^2\cos2β$ in a model-independent way. The $\t…
We generalize the gauge sector of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking to allow for an arbitrary gauge group with an arbitrary supersymmetric Higgsing. The sparticle masses are computed to leading order in the gauge coupling. The generic effect on the MSSM spectrum from additional Higgsed gauge structure is to increase the sfermion masses relative to the gaugino masses.
SUSYGEN is a Monte Carlo program designed for computing distributions and generating events for MSSM sparticle production in e+ e- collisions. The Supersymmetric (SUSY) mass spectrum may either be supplied by the user, or can alternatively be calculated in two different models of SUSY Breaking: gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking (SUGRA), and gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB). The program incorporates the most important production processes and decay modes, including the full set of R-parity violating decays, and the decays to the gravitino in GMSB models. Initial state radiatio…
While it is often stated that the notion of electroweak (EW) naturalness in supersymmetric models is subjective, fuzzy and model-dependent, here we argue the contrary: electroweak naturalness can be elevated to a {\it principle} which is both objective and predictive. We demonstrate visually when too much fine-tuning sets in at the electroweak scale which corresponds numerically to the measure Δ_{BG}~Δ_{EW}> 30. While many constrained SUSY models are already excluded by this value, we derive updated upper bounds on sparticle masses within the two-extra parameter non-universal Higgs model (NUHM…
Perturbative supersymmetry breaking on the landscape of string vacua is expected to favor large soft terms as a power-law or log distribution, but tempered by an anthropic veto of inappropriate vacua or vacua leading to too large a value for the derived weak scale -- a violation of the atomic principle. Indeed, scans of such vacua yield a statistical prediction for light Higgs boson mass m_h~ 125 GeV with sparticles (save possibly light higgsinos) typically beyond LHC reach. In contrast, models of dynamical SUSY breaking (DSB) -- with a hidden sector gauge coupling g^2 scanned uniformly -- lea…
We investigate the split supersymmetry (SUSY) scenario recently proposed by Arkani-Hamed and Dimopoulos, where the scalars are heavy but the fermions are within the TeV range. We show that the sparticle spectrum in such a case crucially depends on the specific details of the mechanism underlying the SUSY breaking scheme, and the accelerator signals are also affected by it. In particular, we demonstrate in the context of a braneworld-inspired model, used as illustration in the original work, that a new fermion $ψ_X$, arising from the SUSY breaking sector, is shown to control low-energy phenomen…
Supersymmetry can explain the observed dark matter relic density with a neutralino dark matter particle and a coannihilating, almost mass-degenerate sparticle. If this were the case in nature, a linear electron positron collider like the ILC could discover the two sparticles if their masses are in the kinematic reach of the collider. This contribution discusses which observations are necessary at the ILC for predicting the dark matter relic density correctly and for confirming that the observed lightest neutralino is the only kind of dark matter. We take the case of stau coannihilation as an e…
We consider the potentials of the LHC and a linear e^+e^- collider (LC) for discovering supersymmetric particles in variants of the MSSM with soft supersymmetry-breaking mass parameters constrained to be universal at the GUT scale (CMSSM) or at some lower scale M_{in} (GUT-less models), as may occur in some scenarios with mirage unification. Whereas the LHC should be able to discover squarks and/or gluinos along all the CMSSM coannihilation strip where the relic neutralino LSP density lies within the range favoured for cold dark matter, many GUT-less models could escape LHC detection. In parti…
The phenomenological implications of the M-theory limit in which supersymmetry is broken by the F-terms of five-brane moduli is investigated. In particular we calculate the supersymmetric spectrum subject to constraints of correct electroweak symmetry breaking. We find interesting differences especially in the squark sector compared with $M$-theory scenarios with standard embedding and weakly-coupled Calabi-Yau compactifications in the large $T$-limit.
We study certain small supersymmetry-breaking perturbations of a large class of strongly coupled four-dimensional R-symmetric renormalization group (RG) flows between superconformal field theories in the ultraviolet (UV) and the infrared (IR). We analyze the conditions under which these perturbations scale to zero at leading order in the deep IR, resulting in accidental supersymmetry. Furthermore, we connect the emergence of IR supersymmetry in this context with a quantity that was recently conjectured to be larger at the UV starting points of the underlying supersymmetric flows than at the co…
The phenomenology associated with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking is presented. A renormalization group analysis of the minimal model is performed in which the constraints of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking are imposed. The resulting superpartner and Higgs boson spectra are highly correlated and depend on only a few parameters. Superpartner mass ratios and sum rules are identified which can be tested at future colliders. Some of these relations are logarithmically sensitive to the messenger scale, while others allow gauge-mediation to be distinguished from other schemes for tansm…
We show that the search for supersymmetry at LHC will be very problematic for the particular case of nonuniversal relations among gaugino masses. Namely, if gluino, first chargino and LSP masses are closed to each other it would be very difficult to discover supersymmetry even if sparticle masses are lighter than 1 TeV.
We study the sparticle spectroscopy and electroweak breaking of theories where supersymmetry is broken by compactification (Scherk-Schwarz mechanism) at a TeV. The evolution of the soft terms above the compactification scale and the resulting sparticle spectrum are very different from those of the usual MSSM and gauge mediated theories. This is traced to the softness of the Scherk-Schwarz mechanism which leads to scalar sparticle masses that are only logarithmically sensitive to the cutoff starting at two loops. As a result, squarks and sleptons are naturally an order of magnitude lighter than…
We calculate the particle spectrum of the SSM which follows from the assumption that the commonly assumed universal form of the soft supersymmetry --breaking terms is invariant under renormalisation. It is argued that this ``strong'' universality might be approached as an infra--red fixed point for the unified theory above the unification scale.
We explore the implications of t-b-tau (and b-tau) Yukawa coupling unification condition on the fundamental parameter space and sparticle spectroscopy in the minimal gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (mGMSB) model. We find that this scenario prefers values of the CP-odd Higgs mass m_A > 1 TeV, with all colored sparticle masses above 3 TeV. These predictions will be hard to test at LHC13 but they may be testable at HE-LHC 33 TeV or a 100 TeV collider. Both t-b-tau and b-tau Yukawa coupling unifications prefer a relatively light gravitino with mass < 30 eV, which makes it a candidate hot dar…
A light singlino in the NMSSM can reduce considerably the missing transverse energy at the end of sparticle decay cascades; instead, light NMSSM-specific Higgs bosons can be produced. Such scenarios can be consistent with present constraints from the LHC with all sparticle masses below ~1 TeV. We discuss search strategies, which do not rely on missing transverse energy, for such scenarios at the next run of the LHC near 14 TeV.
We carry out a detailed analysis of sparticle mass spectrum in supersymmetric grand unified theories. We consider the spectroscopy of the squarks and sleptons in SU(5) and SO(10) grand unified theories, and show how the underlying supersymmetry breaking parameters of these theories can be determined from a measurement of different sparticle masses. This analysis is done analytically by integrating the one-loop renormalization group equations with appropriate boundary conditions implied by the underlying grand unified gauge group. We also consider the impact of non-universal gaugino masses on t…
We evaluate cross sections for $\eslt$, 1$\ell$ and various dilepton and multilepton event topologies that result from the simultaneous production of all sparticles at the Tevatron collider, both within the minimal model framework as well as in two different $R$-parity violating scenarios. Our analysis assumes that these $R$-violating couplings are small, and that their sole effect is to cause the lightest supersymmetric particle to decay inside the detector. We reassess future strategies for sparticle searches at the Tevatron, and quantify by how much the various signals for supersymmetry cou…
In the context of many leptogenesis and baryogenesis scenarios, B-L (baryon minus the lepton number) is converted into B (baryon number) by non-perturbative B+L violating operators in the SU(2)_L sector. We correct a common misconversion of B-L to B in the literature in the context of supersymmetry. More specifically, kinematic effects associated with the sparticle masses can be generically important (typically a factor of 2/3 correction in mSUGRA scenarios), and in some cases, it may even flip the sign between B-L and B. We give explicit formulae for converting B-L to B for temperatures appro…
We present a pedagogical, but by no means complete, review of weak scale supersymmetry phenomenology. After a general introduction to the new particles that must be present in any supersymmetric framework, we describe how to write down their interactions with one another as well as with the particles of the Standard Model. We then elucidate the assumptions underlying the Minimal Supersymmetric Model as well as the more restrictive minimal supergravity GUT model with the radiative breaking of electroweak symmetry. These models serve to guide our thinking about the implications of supersymmetry …
We examine various aspects of supersymmetric particle production at linear $e^+e^-$ colliders operating at a centre of mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV, and integrated luminosity of $\int {\cal L}dt=20-50$ fb$^{-1}$. Working within the framework of the minimal supergravity model with gauge coupling unification and radiative electroweak symmetry breaking (SUGRA), we study various signatures for detection of sparticles, taking into account their cascade decays, and map out the regions of parameter space where these are observable. We also examine strategies to isolate different SUSY processes f…
Simple supersymmetric SO(10) GUT in five dimensions is proposed, in which the fifth dimension is compactified on the $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2^\prime)$ orbifold with two inequivalent branes at the orbifold fixed points. In this model, all matter and Higgs multiplets reside on one brane (PS brane) where the Pati-Salam (PS) symmetry is manifest, while only the SO(10) gauge multiplet resides on the bulk. The supersymmetry breaking on the other brane (SO(10) brane) is transmitted to the PS brane through the gaugino mediation with the bulk gauge multiplet. We examine sparticle mass spectrum in this setup…
Supersymmetry does not dictate the way we should quantize the fields in the supermultiplets, and so we have the freedom to quantize the Standard Model (SM) particles and their superpartners differently. We propose a generalized quantization scheme under which a particle can only appear off-shell, while its contributions to quantum corrections are exactly the same as those in the usual quantum field theory. We apply this quantization scheme solely to the sparticles in the $R$-parity preserving Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Thus sparticles can only appear off-shell. They could be…
These lecture notes are from a first course on the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The level of the notes is introductory and pedagogical. Standard Model, basic supersymmetry algebra and its representations are considered as prerequisites. The topics covered include particle content, structure of the lagrangian, supersymmetry breaking soft terms, electroweak symmetry breaking and the sparticle mass spectrum. Popular supersymmetry breaking models like minimal supergravity and gauge mediation are also introduced.
We discuss low energy threshold effects and calculate the sparticle masses in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We pay particular attention to the top squark and the Higgs mass parameters, and calculate the top Yukawa corrections, taking into account the successive decoupling of each particle at its threshold. We discuss the phenomenological implications in the context of the radiative symmetry breaking scenario.
Based on the stochastic superspace mechanism for softly breaking supersymmetry, we present improved sparticle spectra computations for the minimal model and examine extensions through R-parity violation and the type-I seesaw mechanism that incorporate non-zero neutrino masses for more realistic models. Performing the calculations to two-loop accuracy, we observe a global decrease in predicted sparticle masses. However this does not affect the generic features of the minimal model outlined in our earlier work, including the characteristic light stop mass. We find stop decay channels accessible …
The natural supersymmetry (SUSY) requires light stop quarks, light sbottom quark, and gluino to be around one TeV or lighter. The first generation squarks can be effectively large which does not introduce any hierarchy problem in order to escape the constraints from LHC. In this paper we consider a Yukawa deflect medation to realize the effective natural supersymmetry where the interaction between squarks and messenger are made natural under certain Frogget-Nelson $U(1)_X$ charge. The first generation squarks obtain large and postive contribution from the yukawa deflect mediation. The correspo…
We explore calculable models with low-energy supersymmetry where the flavor hierarchy is generated by quark and lepton compositeness, and where the composites emerge from the same sector that dynamically breaks supersymmetry. The observed pattern of Standard Model fermion masses and mixings is obtained by identifying the various generations with composites of different dimension in the ultraviolet. These "single-sector" supersymmetry breaking models give rise to various spectra of soft masses which are, in many cases, quite distinct from what is commonly found in models of gauge or gravity med…
After an introduction to the Hierarchy Problem and to Supersymmetry we discuss the phenomenology of a motivated non-standard pattern of sparticle masses in the context of extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.
We discuss gauge-mediated models which employ a tree-level mass term in the superpotential. We give explicit composite realizations in which the mass terms are not fundamental. Instead, they arise as effective terms in the superpotential from confining gauge dynamics.
We examine the spectrum of superparticles obtained from the minimal SO(10) grand unified model, where it is assumed the gauge symmetry breaking yields the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as the effective theory at $M_{GUT}\sim 2\times 10^{16}$ GeV. In this model, unification of Yukawa couplings implies a value of $\tanβ\sim 45-55$. At such high values of $\tanβ$, assuming universality of scalar masses, the usual mechanism of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking breaks down. We show that a set of weak scale sparticle masses consistent with radiative electroweak symmetry breaking…
We present a simple model of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking with composite messenger fields. Our model is based on the gauge group $Sp(8) \times SU(2)$. By the strong Sp(8) dynamics, supersymmetry is dynamically broken and the composite fields with charges under the standard model gauge group appear at low energy. The $U(1)_R$ symmetry breaking mass terms for the composite fields are generated by the strong SU(2) dynamics. Then, the composite fields play a role of the messenger fields. On the other hand, the theoretical bounds on the parameters in our model are discussed. Especially, th…
The spontaneous breakdown of the scale, the chiral and the superconformal symmetries for a hidden $SU(N)$ gauge group is studied in an effective lagrangean approach. The relevant low-energy degrees of freedom are taken to be the composite Goldstone particles associated with these three broken symmetries. Supersymmetry is spontaneously broken in the large $N$ limit and soft breaking terms in the observable sector are generated, together with nonrenormalisable Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type interactions.
The recent measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_μ\equiv (g-2)_μ/2 by the Fermilab Muon g-2 experiment sharpens an earlier discrepancy between theory and the BNL E821 experiment. We examine the predicted Δa_μ\equiv a_μ(exp)-a_μ(th) in the context of supersymmetry with low electroweak naturalness (restricting to models which give a plausible explanation for the magnitude of the weak scale). A global analysis including LHC Higgs mass and sparticle search limits points to interpretation within the normal scalar mass hierarchy (NSMH) SUSY model wherein first/second generation matter …
Threshold contributions to light scalar soft masses due to heavy sparticles (possibly including a heavy Higgs mostly aligned with H_d) in Effective SUSY scenarios are dominated by two-loop diagrams involving gauge couplings. This is due to the fact that in the limit in which the heavy states are degenerate, their one-loop contributions to the light soft masses only depend on small Yukawas and the hypercharge coupling. The two-loop threshold corrections involving only gauge couplings are calculated accounting for nonzero gaugino and light squark masses and shown to be negative, and rather large…
We present new theories of dynamical SUSY breaking in which the strong interactions that break SUSY also give rise to composite quarks and leptons with naturally small Yukawa couplings. In these models, SUSY breaking is communicated directly to the composite fields without ``messenger'' interactions. The compositeness scale can be anywhere between 10 TeV and the Planck scale. These models can naturally solve the supersymmetric flavor problem, and generically predict sfermion mass unification independent from gauge unification.
We present a supersymmetric composite model with dynamical supersymmetry breaking. The model is based on the gauge group $SU(2)_S \times SU(2)_H \times SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$. Supersymmetry is dynamically broken by the non-perturbative effect of the $SU(2)_S$ `supercolor' interaction. The large top Yukawa coupling is naturally generated by the $SU(2)_H$ `hypercolor' interaction as recently proposed by Nelson and Strassler. The supersymmetry breaking is mediated to the standard model sector by a new mechanism. The electroweak symmetry breaking is caused by the radiative correctio…
We study a generalization of anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) scenarios, under the assumption that the effects of the high-scale theory do not completely decouple and D-term type contributions can be therefore present. We investigate the effect of such possible D-term additional contributions to soft scalar masses by requiring that, for non-vanishing, renormalizable Yukawa couplings $Y^{ijk} $, the sum of squared soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters, $M^2_{ijk} \equiv m_i^2+m_j^2+m_k^2$, is RG-invariant, in the sense that it becomes independent of the specific ultraviolet …
We study the properties of the Higgs and supersymmetric particle spectrum associated with the infrared fixed point solution of the top quark mass in the MSSM. We concentrate on the possible detection of these particles, analysing the deviations from the Standard Model predictions for the leptonic and hadronic variables measured at LEP and for the decay rate $b\rightarrow sγ$. We consider the low and moderate $\tan β$ regime, and we study both, the cases of universal and non--universal soft supersymmetry breaking parameters at high energies. In the first case, for any given value of the top qua…
An analysis is given connecting event rates for the direct detection of neutralino dark matter with the possible signatures of supersymmetry at the LHC. It is shown that if an effect is seen in the direct detection experiments at a level of $O(10^{-44})$ cm$^2$ for the neutralino-proton cross section, then within the mSUGRA model the next heavier particle above the neutralino is either a stau, a chargino, or a CP odd/CP even (A/H) Higgs boson. Further, the collider analysis shows that models with a neutralino-proton cross section at the level of $(1-5)\times 10^{-44}$ cm$^2$ could be probed wi…
We evaluate the supersymmetry reach of the Large Hadron Collider within the gauge-mediated low energy supersymmetry breaking framework, assuming that a neutralino is the second lightest sparticle and that it decays promptly into a gravitino which escapes detection. We find that the maximum reach is obtained via a search for inclusive $γγ+\eslt$ events coming dominantly from chargino and neutralino production. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 10~$fb^{-1}$, we find that LHC experiments will be able to probe values of the model parameter $Λ\alt 400$ TeV, corresponding to $m_{\tg} \leq 2.8$ Te…
We consider sparticle contributions to time dependent CP asymmetry in B -> phi K_S. As for the gluino-squark loop, LR or RL insertion is more likely to give recently observed S_{phi K} < 0 than LL or RR insertion. Neutral Higgs contribution does not change S_{phi K} very much due to the strong constraint from B_s -> mu^+ mu^-. We also show correlations among related processes such as direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma and B_s - B_s bar mixing, and discuss theoretical motivations for desired strength of flavor violation.
We present a toy model which has the following properties: i) it is strongly coupled at a certain scale and breaks supersymmetry at this scale; ii) matter superfields of (one generation of) the Standard Model are effective low energy degrees of freedom of this strongly coupled theory; iii) direct gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking occurs due to messenger superfields that are also effective low energy degrees of freedom. We discuss the way to generalize this approach to realistic models with three generations. These models might be favorable from the point of view of string theory compac…
We explore the LHC phenomenology of an extension of warped higgsless models. The model is supersymmetric in the bulk and on the IR brane as introduced in [arXiv:0805.1379], corresponding to an emergence of a supersymmetric spectrum in the composite sector of the higgsless model. In particular, the lightest neutralino is rendered stable by an R parity and serves as a realistic cold dark matter candidate. The observation of missing energy signals at the LHC from LSP and NLSP production in association with third generation quarks is discussed based on simulations using WHIZARD.
We examine signals for sparticle production at the Tevatron within the framework of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models for four different model lines, each of which leads to qualitatively different signatures. We identify cuts to enhance the signal above Standard Model backgrounds, and use ISAJET to evaluate the SUSY reach of experiments at the Fermilab Main Injector and at the proposed TeV33. For the model lines that we have examined, we find that the reach is at least as large, and frequently larger, than in the mSUGRA framework. For two of these model lines, we find that the abili…
We assess the future directions for the search for supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider in view of the new precision results on the muon anomaly by the Fermilab Collaboration. The existence of a deviation of size 4.1$σ$ from the Standard Model prediction points to light sleptons and light weakinos in the mass range of few hundred GeV while the observation of the Higgs boson mass at $\sim 125$ GeV points to squark masses lying in the few TeV range. Thus a split sparticle spectrum is indicated. We discuss the possibility of such a split sparticle spectrum in the supergravity unified model …
We review recent work on realistic models that break supersymmetry dynamically and give rise to composite quarks and leptons, all in a single sector. These models have a completely natural suppression of flavor-changing neutral currents, and the hierarchy of Yukawa couplings is explained by the dimensionality of composite states. The generic signatures are unification of scalar masses with different quantum numbers at the compositeness scale, and lighter gaugino, Higgsino, and third-generation sfermion masses.
We present a composite model of quarks with `effective supersymmetry'. The model is based on the gauge group $(SU(2)_S \times SU(2)_M) \times (SU(2)_U \times SU(2)_C \times SU(2)_T) \times SU(5)_{SM}$, where $SU(5)_{SM}$ is the standard model gauge group. In the dynamical supersymmetry breaking sector based on the gauge group $SU(2)_S \times SU(2)_M$, supersymmetry is dynamically broken. The preon sector is constructed by the model proposed by Nelson and Strassler. The fermion mass hierarchy among the up-type quarks originates from the $SU(2)_U \times SU(2)_C \times SU(2)_T$ gauge dynamics. Th…
