We study the existence of Khovanskii-finite valuations for rational curves of arithmetic genus two. We provide a semi-explicit description of the locus of degree $n+2$ rational curves in $\mathbb{P}^n$ of arithmetic genus two that admit a Khovanskii-finite valuation. Furthermore, we describe an effective method for determining if a rational curve of arithmetic genus two defined over a number field admits a Khovanskii-finite valuation. Khovanskii bases, higher rank valuations and tropical geometry

Given a finitely generated algebra $A$, it is a fundamental question whether $A$ has a full rank discrete (Krull) valuation $\mathfrak{v}$ with finitely generated value semigroup. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for this, in terms of tropical geometry of $A$. In the course of this we introduce the notion of a Khovanskii basis for $(A, \mathfrak{v})$ which provides a framework for far extending Gröbner theory on polynomial algebras to general finitely generated algebras. The Nash problem for torus actions of complexity one

We solve the equivariant generalized Nash problem for any non-rational normal variety with torus action of complexity one. Namely, we give an explicit combinatorial description of the Nash order on the set of equivariant divisorial valuations on any such variety. Using this description, we positively solve the classical Nash problem in this setting, showing that every essential valuation is a Nash valuation. Residues and tame symbols on toroidal varieties

We introduce a new approach to the study of a system of algebraic equations in the algebraic torus whose Newton polytopes have sufficiently general relative positions. Our method is based on the theory of Parshin's residues and tame symbols on toroidal varieties. It provides a uniform algebraic explanation of the recent result of Khovanskii on the product of the roots of such systems and the Gel'fond--Khovanskii result on the sum of the values of a Laurent polynomial over the roots of such systems, and extends them to the case of an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic.

Full-rank Valuations and Toric Initial Ideals

Let $V(I)$ be a polarized projective variety or a subvariety of a product of projective spaces and let $A$ be its (multi-)homogeneous coordinate ring.
