Photo-unrealistic Image Enhancement for Subject Placement in Outdoor Photography

Ruhr Universität Bochum（波鸿鲁尔大学）

Christian Tendyck, Andrew Haddad, Mireille Boutin

英文摘要：

Camera display reflections are an issue in bright light situations, as they may prevent users from correctly positioning the subject in the picture. We propose a software solution to this problem, which consists in modifying the image in the viewer, in real time. In our solution, the user is seeing a posterized image which roughly represents the contour of the objects. Five enhancement methods are compared in a user study. Our results indicate that the problem considered is a valid one, as users had problems locating landmarks nearly 37% of the time under sunny conditions, and that our proposed enhancement method using contrasting colors is a practical solution to that problem.

A General Framework for Partial to Full Image Registration

Robert Gordon University（罗伯特戈登大学）；Universitat Rovira i Virgili（罗维拉-威尔吉利大学）

Image registration is a research field in which images must be compared and aligned independently of the point of view or camera characteristics. In some applications (such as forensic biometrics, satellite photography or outdoor scene identification) classical image registration systems fail due to one of the images compared represents a tiny piece of the other image. For instance, in forensics palmprint recognition, it is usual to find only a small piece of the palmprint, but in the database, the whole palmprint has been enrolled. The main reason of the poor behaviour of classical image regi…

Towards Geometry Guided Neural Relighting with Flash Photography

The Chinese University of Hong Kong（香港中文大学）；SenseTime Research（商汤科技研究院）

Previous image based relighting methods require capturing multiple images to acquire high frequency lighting effect under different lighting conditions, which needs nontrivial effort and may be unrealistic in certain practical use scenarios. While such approaches rely entirely on cleverly sampling the color images under different lighting conditions, little has been done to utilize geometric information that crucially influences the high-frequency features in the images, such as glossy highlight and cast shadow. We therefore propose a framework for image relighting from a single flash photogra…

Factorized and Controllable Neural Re-Rendering of Outdoor Scene for Photo Extrapolation

Zhejiang University（浙江大学）；ETH Zürich（苏黎世联邦理工学院）；Wilfrid Laurier University（威尔弗里德·劳雷尔大学）

Expanding an existing tourist photo from a partially captured scene to a full scene is one of the desired experiences for photography applications. Although photo extrapolation has been well studied, it is much more challenging to extrapolate a photo (i.e., selfie) from a narrow field of view to a wider one while maintaining a similar visual style. In this paper, we propose a factorized neural re-rendering model to produce photorealistic novel views from cluttered outdoor Internet photo collections, which enables the applications including controllable scene re-rendering, photo extrapolation a…

Time-of-Day Neural Style Transfer for Architectural Photographs

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology（香港科技大学）；VinAI Research（VinAI研究院）

Architectural photography is a genre of photography that focuses on capturing a building or structure in the foreground with dramatic lighting in the background. Inspired by recent successes in image-to-image translation methods, we aim to perform style transfer for architectural photographs. However, the special composition in architectural photography poses great challenges for style transfer in this type of photographs. Existing neural style transfer methods treat the architectural images as a single entity, which would generate mismatched chrominance and destroy geometric features of the o…

Cognitive Analysis of 360 degree Surround Photos

University of Moratuwa（莫拉图瓦大学）

360 degrees surround photography or photospheres have taken the world by storm as the new media for content creation providing viewers rich, immersive experience compared to conventional photography. With the emergence of Virtual Reality as a mainstream trend, the 360 degrees photography is increasingly important to offer a practical approach to the general public to capture virtual reality ready content from their mobile phones without explicit tool support or knowledge. Even though the amount of 360-degree surround content being uploaded to the Internet continues to grow, there is no proper …

FisheyeEX: Polar Outpainting for Extending the FoV of Fisheye Lens

Beijing Jiaotong University（北京交通大学）；Institute of Information Science（信息科学研究所）；Beijing Key Laboratory of Advanced Information Science and Network Technology（北京先进信息科学与网络技术重点实验室）

Fisheye lens gains increasing applications in computational photography and assisted driving because of its wide field of view (FoV). However, the fisheye image generally contains invalid black regions induced by its imaging model. In this paper, we present a FisheyeEX method that extends the FoV of the fisheye lens by outpainting the invalid regions, improving the integrity of captured scenes. Compared with the rectangle and undistorted image, there are two challenges for fisheye image outpainting: irregular painting regions and distortion synthesis. Observing the radial symmetry of the fishe…

GTAV-NightRain: Photometric Realistic Large-scale Dataset for Night-time Rain Streak Removal

Beijing Institute of Technology（北京理工大学）；University of Amsterdam（阿姆斯特丹大学）；International Digital Economy Academy（国际数字经济学院）

Rain is transparent, which reflects and refracts light in the scene to the camera. In outdoor vision, rain, especially rain streaks degrade visibility and therefore need to be removed. In existing rain streak removal datasets, although density, scale, direction and intensity have been considered, transparency is not fully taken into account. This problem is particularly serious in night scenes, where the appearance of rain largely depends on the interaction with scene illuminations and changes drastically on different positions within the image. This is problematic, because unrealistic dataset…
