The effects of Lorentz Invariance Violation(LIV) operators up to dimension 6 in long baseline neutrino experiments are discussed, in specific for DUNE and T2K. A phenomenological Lagrangian is proposed followed by a computation of the effective Hamiltonian of neutrino propagation in matter for mass eigenstates. It is shown that the simplest dimension 4 Lorentz violation parameter can decrease DUNE sensitivity to neutrino mass hierarchy. Also, a $χ^2$ analysis is performed to obtain the expected long-baseline constraints to the LIV operators up to dimension 6.
Neutrinos are the fundamental particles, blind to all kind of interactions except the weak and gravitational. Hence, they can propagate very long distances without any deviation. This characteristic property can thus provide an ideal platform to investigate Planck suppressed physics through their long distance propagation. In this work, we intend to investigate CPT violation through Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) in the long-baseline accelerator based neutrino experiments. Considering the simplest four-dimensional Lorentz violating parameters, for the first time, we obtain the sensitivity …
The persistence of the hierarchy problem points to a violation of effective field theory expectations. A compelling possibility is that this results from a physical breakdown of EFT, which may arise from correlations between ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) physics. To this end, we study noncommutative field theory (NCFT) as a toy model of UV/IR mixing which generates an emergent infrared scale from ultraviolet dynamics. We explore the range of such theories where ultraviolet divergences are transmogrified into infrared scales, focusing particularly on the properties of Yukawa theory, where …
We consider a matrix space based on the spin degree of freedom, describing both a Hilbert state space, and its corresponding symmetry operators. Under the requirement that the Lorentz symmetry be kept, at given dimension, scalar symmetries, and their representations are determined. Symmetries are flavor or gauge-like, with fixed chirality. After spin 0, 1/2, and 1 fields are obtained in this space, we construct associated interactive gauge-invariant renormalizable terms, showing their equivalence to a Lagrangian formulation, using as example the previously studied (5+1)-dimensional case, with …
In this paper, we have analysed the latest data from NO$ν$A and T2K with the Lorentz invariance violation along with the standard oscillation hypothesis. We have found that the NO$ν$A data cannot distinguish between the two hypotheses at $1\, σ$ confidence level. T2K data and the combined data analysis excluded standard oscillation at $1\, σ$. All three cases do not have any hierarchy sensitivity when analysed with LIV. There is a mild tension between the two experiments, when analysed with LIV, as $θ_{23}$ at \nova best-fit is at higher octant but the same for T2K is at lower octant. NO$ν$A h…
This work explores the possibility of resorting to neutrino phenomenology to detect evidence of new physics, caused by the residual signals of the supposed quantum structure of spacetime. In particular, this work investigates the effects on neutrino oscillations and mass hierarchy detection, predicted by models that violate Lorentz invariance, preserving the spacetime isotropy and homogeneity. Neutrino physics is the ideal environment where conducting the search for new "exotic" physics, since the oscillation phenomenon is not included in the original formulation of the minimal Standard Model …
A number of different effects of the violation of the Equivalence Principle (VEP), taken as sub-leading mechanism of neutrino flavor oscillation, are examined within the framework of the DUNE experiment. We study the possibility of obtaining a misleading neutrino oscillation parameter region caused by our unawareness of VEP. Additionally, we evaluate the impact on the measurement of CP violation and the distinction of neutrino mass hierarchy at DUNE. Besides, limits on VEP for a wide variety of textures of the matrix that connects neutrino gravity eigenstates to flavor eigenstates are imposed.…
I discuss dynamical generation of neutrino masses in unconventional scenarios where the background space-time geometry plays a crucial role. I discuss two types of backgrounds: (i) Lorentz Violating and (ii) Geometries with Torsion. In the former case, the violation of Lorentz symmetry, at a scale M, may be viewed as a catalyst for mass generation and induced flavour oscillations among neutrino species, which survive the limit of M taken to infinity, leading to a hierarchy among neutrino masses. In the latter case, the (totally antisymmetric components of the) torsion degrees of freedom corres…
