Many-body localized phases may not only be characterized by their ergodicity breaking, but can also host ordered phases such as the many-body localized spin-glass (MBL-SG). The MBL-SG is challenging to access in a dynamical measurement and therefore experimentally since the conventionally used Edwards-Anderson order parameter is a two-point correlation function in time. In this work, we show that many-body localized spin-glass order can also be detected from two-site reduced density matrices, which we use to construct an eigenstate spin-glass order parameter. We find that this eigenstate spin-glass order parameter captures spin-glass phases in random Ising chains both in many-body eigenstates as well as in the nonequilibrium dynamics from a local in time measurement. We discuss how our results can be used to observe MBL-SG order within current experiments in Rydberg atoms and trapped ion systems.
We study the eigenstate phases of disordered spin chains with on-site finite non-Abelian symmetry. We develop a general formalism based on standard group theory to construct local spin Hamiltonians invariant under any on-site symmetry. We then specialize to the case of the simplest non-Abelian group, $S_3$, and numerically study a particular two parameter spin-1 Hamiltonian. We observe a thermal phase and a many-body localized phase with a spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) from $S_3$ to $\mathbb{Z}_3$ in our model Hamiltonian. We diagnose these phases using full entanglement distributions an…
Localisation-protected quantum order extends the idea of symmetry breaking and order in ground states to individual eigenstates at arbitrary energy. Examples include many-body localised static and $π$-spin glasses in Floquet systems. Such order is inherently dynamical and difficult to detect as the order parameter typically varies randomly between different eigenstates, requiring specific superpositions of eigenstates to be targeted by the initial state. We show that two-time correlators overcome this, reflecting the presence or absence of eigenstate order even in fully-mixed, $infinite$ $temp…
Non-Fermi liquids are metals that cannot be adiabatically deformed into free fermion states. We argue for the existence of "non-Fermi glasses," which are phases of interacting disordered fermions that are fully many-body localized, yet cannot be deformed into an Anderson insulator without an eigenstate phase transition. We explore the properties of such non-Fermi glasses, focusing on a specific solvable example. At high temperature, non-Fermi glasses have qualitatively similar spectral features to Anderson insulators. We identify a diagnostic, based on ratios of correlation functions, that sha…
Out of equilibrium phases of matter exhibiting order in individual eigenstates, such as many-body localised spin glasses and discrete time crystals, can be characterised by inherently dynamical quantities such as spatiotemporal correlation functions. In this work, we introduce dynamical potentials which act as generating functions for such correlations and capture eigenstate phases and order. These potentials show formal similarities to their equilibrium counterparts, namely thermodynamic potentials. We provide three representative examples: a disordered, many-body localised XXZ chain showing …
This paper addresses the so-called inverse problem which consists in searching for (possibly multiple) parent target Hamiltonian(s), given a single quantum state as input. Starting from $Ψ_0$, an eigenstate of a given local Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_0$, we ask whether or not there exists another parent Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_\mathrm{P}$ for $Ψ_0$, with the same local form as $\mathcal{H}_0$. Focusing on one-dimensional quantum disordered systems, we extend the recent results obtained for Bose-glass ground states [M. Dupont and N. Laflorencie, Phys. Rev. B 99, 020202(R) (2019)] to Anderson loc…
Building on large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the zero-temperature phase diagram of hard-core bosons in a random potential on site-centered Cayley trees with branching number $K=2$. In order to follow how the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is affected by the disorder, we focus on both the zero-momentum density, probing the quantum coherence, and the one-body density matrix (1BDM) whose largest eigenvalue monitors the off-diagonal long-range order. We further study its associated eigenstate which brings useful information about the real-space properties of this leading…
Symmetries play a central role in single-particle localization. Recent research focused on many-body localized (MBL) systems, characterized by new kind of integrability, and by the area-law entanglement of eigenstates. We investigate the effect of a non-Abelian $SU(2)$ symmetry on the dynamical properties of a disordered Heisenberg chain. While $SU(2)$ symmetry is inconsistent with the conventional MBL, a new non-ergodic regime is possible. In this regime, the eigenstates exhibit faster than area-law, but still a strongly sub-thermal scaling of entanglement entropy. Using exact diagonalization…
Many-body localization in a disordered quantum Ising chain
Rev. B 88,014206(2013)]给出了数值支持。
We examine the stability of marginally Anderson localized phase transitions between localized phases to the addition of many-body interactions, focusing in particular on the spin-glass to paramagnet transition in a disordered transverse field Ising model in one dimension. We find evidence for a perturbative instability of localization at finite energy densities once interactions are added, i.e. evidence for the relevance of interactions - in a renormalization group sense - to the non-interacting critical point governed by infinite randomness scaling. We introduce a novel diagnostic, the "susce…
An important challenge in the field of many-body quantum dynamics is to identify non-ergodic states of matter beyond many-body localization (MBL). Strongly disordered spin chains with non-Abelian symmetry and chains of non-Abelian anyons are natural candidates, as they are incompatible with standard MBL. In such chains, real space renormalization group methods predict a partially localized, non-ergodic regime known as a quantum critical glass (a critical variant of MBL). This regime features a tree-like hierarchy of integrals of motion and symmetric eigenstates with entanglement entropy that s…
