We consider an interface between two strong time-reversal invariant topological insulators having surface states with opposite spin chirality, or equivalently, opposite mirror Chern number. We show that such an interface supports gapless modes that are protected by mirror symmetry. The interface states are investigated with a continuum model for the Bi2Se3 class of topological insulators that takes into account terms up to third order in the crystal momentum, which ensures that the model has the correct symmetry. The model parameters are obtained from ab initio calculations. Finally, we consider the effect of rotational mismatch at the interface, which breaks the mirror symmetry and opens a gap in the interface spectrum.
We report on the fabrication of Josephson junctions using the topological crystalline insulator Pb$_{0.5}$Sn$_{0.5}$Te as the weak link. The properties of these junctions are characterized and compared to those fabricated with weak links of PbTe, a similar material yet topologically trivial. Most striking is the difference in the AC Josephson effect: junctions made with Pb$_{0.5}$Sn$_{0.5}$Te exhibit rich subharmonic structure consistent with a skewed current-phase relation. This structure is absent in junctions fabricated from PbTe. A discussion is given on the origin of this effect as an ind…
We introduce a coupled-layer construction to describe three-dimensional topological crystalline insulators protected by reflection symmetry. Our approach uses stacks of weakly-coupled two-dimensional Chern insulators to produce topological crystalline insulators in one higher dimension, with tunable number and location of surface Dirac cones. As an application of our formalism, we turn to a simplified model of topological crystalline insulator SnTe, showing that its protected surface states can be described using the coupled layer construction.
In this work, we identify a new class of Z2 topological insulator protected by non-symmorphic crystalline symmetry, dubbed a "topological non-symmorphic crystalline insulator". We construct a concrete tight-binding model with the non-symmorphic space group pmg and confirm the topological nature of this model by calculating topological surface states and defining a Z2 topological invariant. Based on the projective representation theory, we extend our discussion to other non-symmorphic space groups that allows to host topological non-symmorphic crystalline insulators.
In this Book Chapter (invited) we briefly review the basic concepts defining topological insulators and focus on elaborating on the key experimental results that revealed and established their symmetry protected (SPT) topological nature. We then present key experimental results that demonstrate magnetism, Kondo insulation, mirror chirality or topological crystalline order and superconductivity in spin-orbit topological insulator settings and how these new (bulk insulating) phases of matter arise through topological quantum phase transitions from Bloch band insulators via topological or Dirac s…
We propose magnonic analogs of topological crystalline insulators which possess Dirac surface states protected by the combined symmetry of time-reversal and half translation. Constructing models of the topological magnon systems, we demonstrate that the energy current flows through the systems in response to an electric field, owing to the Dirac surface states with the spin-momentum locking. We also propose a realization of the magnonic analogs of topological crystalline insulators in a magnetic compound CrI$_{3}$ with a monoclinic structure.
Topological crystalline insulators define a new class of topological insulator phases with gapless surface states protected by crystalline symmetries. In this work, we present a general theory to classify topological crystalline insulator phases based on the representation theory of space groups. Our approach is to directly identify possible nontrivial surface states in a semi-infinite system with a specific surface, of which the symmetry property can be described by 17 two-dimensional space groups. We reproduce the existing results of topological crystalline insulators, such as mirror Chern i…
Gapless surface states of time reversal invariant topological insulators are protected by the anti-unitary nature of the time reversal operation. Very recently, this idea was generalized to magnetic structures, in which time reversal symmetry is explicitly broken, but there is still an anti-unitary symmetry operation combining time reversal symmetry and crystalline symmetry. These topological phases in magnetic structures are dubbed "topological magnetic crystalline insulators". In this work, we present a general theory of topological magnetic crystalline insulators in different types of magne…
We propose a phenomenological theory for topological crystalline insulators with time reversal and $C_4$ symmetries. First, we introduce a fictitious space and transformation of electromagnetic field operators. This transformation leaves the speed of light unchanged but changes the elementary charge to $\sqrt{2}e$. Then we formulate the theory of topological crystalline insulators in terms of transformed fields in this fictitious space as 3D BF theory containing $π$-flux excitations. It is known that a 3D BF theory with half flux quantum excitations describes low energy properties of time reve…
We study spin and charge diffusion in metallic-ferromagnet/topological-insulator junctions. The coupled diffusion equations are derived perturbatively with respect to the strength of the interlayer tunneling. We calculate spin accumulation in the ferromagnet and junction magnetoresistance associated with a current bias along the interface.
We propose a different route to time-reversal invariant Weyl semimetals employing multilayer heterostructures comprising ordinary "trivial" insulators and nontrivial insulators with \textit{pairs} of protected Dirac cones on the surface. We consider both the case of weak topological insualtors, where surface Dirac cones are pinned to time-reversal invariant momenta, and of topological crystalline insulators with unpinned surface Dirac cones. For both realizations we explain phenomenologically how the proposed construction leads to the emergence of a Weyl semimetal phase. We further formulate e…
Second-order topological insulators and superconductors have a gapped excitation spectrum in bulk and along boundaries, but protected zero modes at corners of a two-dimensional crystal or protected gapless modes at hinges of a three-dimensional crystal. A second-order topological phase can be induced by the presence of a bulk crystalline symmetry. Building on Shiozaki and Sato's complete classification of bulk crystalline phases with an order-two crystalline symmetry [Phys.\ Rev.\ B {\bf 90}, 165114 (2014)], such as mirror reflection, twofold rotation, or inversion symmetry, we classify all co…
Recently, the topological classification of electronic states has been extended to a new class of matter known as topological crystalline insulators. Similar to topological insulators, topological crystalline insulators also have spin-momentum locked surface states; but they only exist on specific crystal planes that are protected by crystal reflection symmetry. Here, we report an ultra-low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy study on topological crystalline insulator SnTe nanoplates grown by molecular beam epitaxy. We observed quasiparticle interference patterns on the …
We theoretically demonstrate that the high-critical-temperature superconductor Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+x}$ (BSCCO) is a natural candidate for the recently envisioned classical space-time crystal. BSCCO intrinsically forms a stack of Josephson junctions. Under a periodic parametric modulation of the Josephson critical current density, the Josephson currents develop coupled space-time crystalline order, breaking the continuous translational symmetry in both space and time. The modulation frequency and amplitude span a (nonequilibrium) phase diagram for a so-defined spatiotemporal order paramet…
We have studied the tachyonic excitations in the junction of two topological insulators in the presence of an external magnetic field. The Landau levels, evaluated from an effective two-dimensional model for tachyons, and from the junction states of two topological insulators, show some unique properties not seen in conventional electrons systems or in graphene. The $ν=1/3$ fractional quantum Hall effect has also a strong presence in the tachyon system.
We investigate quantum transport via surface states in a nanostep junction on the surface of a 3D topological insulator that involves two different side surfaces. We calculate the conductance across the junction within the scattering matrix formalism and find that as the bias voltage is increased, the conductance of the nanostep junction is suppressed by a universal factor of 1/3 compared to the conductance of a similar planar junction based on a single surface of a topological insulator. We also calculate and analyze the Fano factor of the nanostep junction and predict that the Fano factor sa…
We have considered a system of two topological insulators and have determined the properties of the surface states at the junction. Here we report that these states, under certain conditions exhibit superluminous (tachyonic) dispersion of the Dirac fermions. Although superluminal excitations are known to exist in optical systems, this is the first demonstration of possible tachyonic excitations in a purely electronic system. The first ever signature of tachyons could therefore be found experimentally in a topological insulator junction.
We give an introduction to topological crystalline insulators, that is, gapped ground states of quantum matter that are not adiabatically connected to an atomic limit without breaking symmetries that include spatial transformations, like mirror or rotational symmetries. To deduce the topological properties, we use non-Abelian Wilson loops. We also discuss in detail higher-order topological insulators with hinge and corner states, and in particular present interacting bosonic models for the latter class of systems.

Topological crystalline insulators are materials in which the crystalline symmetry leads to topologically protected surface states with a chiral spin texture, rendering them potential candidates for spintronics applications. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we uncover the existence of one-dimensional (1D) midgap states at odd-atomic surface step edges of the three- dimensional topological crystalline insulator (Pb,Sn)Se. A minimal toy model and realistic tight- binding calculations identify them as spin-polarized flat bands connecting two Dirac points. This non-trivial origin provides th…
We develop a general theoretical framework based on $Z$-classification to count the number of topological bound states at a junction of chiral-symmetric one-dimensional systems. The formulation applies to general multiway junctions composed of an arbitrary number of channels and an arbitrary joint structure. By using the formula, we calculate the zero-energy bound states in various types of two-way and three-way junctions of semiconducting graphene nanoribbons. We then consider periodic two-dimensional networks of graphene nanoribbons, and show that the topological junction states form isolate…
We investigate Josephson junctions on the surface of a three-dimensional topological insulator in planar, step, and edge geometries. The elliptical nature of the Dirac cone representing the side surface states of the topological insulator results in a scaling factor in the Josephson current in a step junction as compared to the planar junction. In edge junctions, the contribution of the Andreev bound states to the Josephson current vanishes due to spin-momentum locking of the surface states. Furthermore, we consider a junction with a ferromagnetic insulator between the superconducting regions.…
Topological crystalline insulators (TCI) are a new class of materials which have metallic surface states on select surfaces due to point group crystalline symmetries. In this letter, we consider a model for a three-dimensional (3D) topological crystalline insulator with Dirac nodes occurring on a surface that are protected by the mirror and time reversal symmetry. We demonstrate that the electromagnetic response for such a system is characterized by a $1$-form $b_μ$. $b_μ$ can be inferred from the locations of the surface Dirac nodes in energy-momentum space and couples to the surface Dirac no…
We study electronic states and topological invariants of (001)-films of topological crystalline insulator (TCI) Pb_{x}Sn_{1-x}Te. Gapless surface Dirac cones on bulk TCIs become gapped in thin films due to finite-size effect, which is hybridization between those on the top and bottom surfaces. We clarify that the TCI film has the strong finite-size effect as compared to three-dimensional topological insulators such as Bi2Se3. Moreover, the energy gap oscillates with the thickness of film. The oscillation stems from topological phase transitions in two dimensions. The obtained data of the topol…
Different from the two-dimensional (2D) topological insulator, the 2D topological crystalline insulator (TCI) phase disappears when the mirror symmetry is broken, e.g., upon placing on a substrate. Here, based on a new family of 2D TCIs - SnTe and PbTe monolayers - we theoretically predict the realization of the quantum anomalous Hall effect with Chern number C = 2 even when the mirror symmetry is broken. Remarkably, we also demonstrate that the considered materials retain their large-gap topological properties in quantum well structures obtained by sandwiching the monolayers between NaCl laye…
While the experimental progress on three dimensional topological insulators is rapid, the development of their two dimensional counterparts has been comparatively slow, despite their technological promise. The main reason is materials challenges of the to date only realizations of two-dimensional topological insulators, in semiconductor quantum wells. Here we identify a two dimensional topological insulator in a material which does not face similar challenges and which is by now most widely available and well-charaterized: graphene. For certain commensurate interlayer twists graphene multilaye…
Topological crystalline insulators (TCI) are unique systems where a band inversion that is protected by crystalline mirror symmetry leads to a multiplicity of topological surface states. Binary SnTe is an attractive lead-free TCI compound; the present work on high-quality thin films provides a route for increasing the mobility and reducing the carrier density of SnTe without chemical doping. Results of quantum coherent magnetotransport measurements reveal a multiplicity of Dirac surface states that are unique to TCI. Modeling of the weak antilocalization shows variations in the extracted numbe…
We discuss recent advances in the study of topological insulators protected by spatial symmetries by reviewing three representative, theoretical examples. In three dimensions, these states of matter are generally characterized by the presence of gapless boundary states at surfaces that respect the protecting spatial symmetry. We discuss the appearance of these topological states both in crystals with negligible spin-orbit coupling and a fourfold rotational symmetry, as well as in mirror-symmetric crystals with sizable spin-orbit interaction characterized by the so-called mirror Chern number. F…
The topological crystalline insulator tin telluride is known to host superconductivity when doped with indium (Sn$_{1-x}$In$_{x}$Te), and for low indium contents ($x=0.04$) it is known that the topological surface states are preserved. Here we present the growth, characterization and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy analysis of samples with much heavier In doping (up to $x\approx0.4$), a regime where the superconducting temperature is increased nearly fourfold. We demonstrate that despite strong p-type doping, Dirac-like surface states persist.
We consider a natural generalization of the lattice model for a periodic array of two layers, A and B, of spinless electrons proposed by Fu [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 106802 (2011)] as a prototype for a crystalline insulator. This model has time-reversal symmetry and broken inversion symmetry. We show that when the intralayer next-nearest-neighbor hoppings ta2, a = A, B vanish, this model supports a Weyl semimetal phase for a wide range of the remaining model parameters. When the effect of ta2 is considered, topological crystalline insulating phases take place within the Weyl semimetal one. By map…
Topological crystalline insulators are topological insulators whose surface states are protected by the crystalline symmetry, instead of the time reversal symmetry. Similar to the first generation of three-dimensional topological insulators such as Bi2Se3 and Bi2Te3, topological crystalline insulators also possess surface states with exotic electronic properties such as spin-momentum locking and Dirac dispersion. Experimentally verified topological crystalline insulators to date are SnTe, Pb1-xSnxSe, and Pb1-xSnxTe. Because topological protection comes from the crystal symmetry, magnetic impur…
Periodically driven systems can host so called anomalous topological phases, in which protected boundary states coexist with topologically trivial Floquet bulk bands. We introduce an anomalous version of reflection symmetry protected topological crystalline insulators, obtained as a stack of weakly-coupled two-dimensional layers. The system has tunable and robust surface Dirac cones even though the mirror Chern numbers of the Floquet bulk bands vanish. The number of surface Dirac cones is given by a new topological invariant determined from the scattering matrix of the system. Further, we find…
We reveal the giant magnetoresistance induced by the spin-polarized current in the ferromagnet (F_1)/topological insulator (TI)/ferromagnet (F_2) junction, where two ferromagnets are deposited on the diffusive surface of the TI. We can increase and reduce the value of the giant magnetoresistance by tuning the spin-polarized current, which is controlled by the magnetization configurations. The property is intuitively understood by the non-equilibrium spin-polarized current, which plays the role of an effective electrochemical potential on the surface of the TI.
Topological crystalline insulators represent a novel topological phase of matter in which the surface states are protected by discrete point group-symmetries of the underlying lattice. Rock-salt lead-tin-selenide alloy is one possible realization of this phase which undergoes a topological phase transition upon changing the lead content. We used scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to probe the surface states on (001) Pb$_{1-x}$Sn$_{x}$Se in the topologically non-trivial (x=0.23) and topologically trivial (x=0) phases. We observed quasiparti…
Recently, a contact-resistance-measurement method was developed to detect the minigap, hence the Andreev bound states (ABSs), in Josephson junctions constructed on the surface of three-dimensional topological insulators (3D TIs). In this work, we further generalize that method to the circumstance with radio frequency (rf) irradiation. We find that with the increase of rf power, the measured minigap becomes broadened and extends to higher energies, in a way similar to the rf power dependence of the outer border of the Shapiro step region. We show that the corresponding data of contact resistanc…
We use Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) microscopy to characterize the current-phase relation (CPR) of Josephson Junctions from 3-dimentional topological insulator HgTe (3D-HgTe). We find clear skewness in the CPRs of HgTe junctions ranging in length from 200 nm to 600 nm. The skewness indicates that the Josephson current is predominantly carried by Andreev bound states with high transmittance, and the fact that the skewness persists in junctions that are longer than the mean free path suggests that the effect may be related to the helical nature of the Andreev bound states …
We consider a junction between two topological insulators, and calculate the properties of the interface states with an effective low energy Hamiltonian for topological insulators with a single cone on the surface. This system bears a close resemblance to bilayer graphene, as both result from the hybridization of Dirac cones. We find gapless interface states not only when the helicity direction of the topological surface states are oppositely oriented, but they can also exist if they are equally oriented. Furthermore, we find that the existence of the interface states can be understood from th…
We investigate a topological switch between second-order topological insulators (SOTIs) and topological crystalline insulators (TCIs). Both the SOTI and the TCI are protected by the mirror and inversion symmetries, for which we define the bulk topological numbers of the same type. We take examples of square nanodisks on the square lattice and hexagonal nanodisks on the triangular lattice. When inplane magnetic field is introduced parallel to one of the helical edges, the system becomes a TCI. The conductance along the edge is 1 in the unit of the conductance quantum $e^2/h$. As the inplane fie…
We study the properties of a line junction which separates the surfaces of two three-dimensional topological insulators. The velocities of the Dirac electrons on the two surfaces may be unequal and may even have opposite signs. For a time reversal invariant system, we show that the line junction is characterized by an arbitrary parameter αwhich determines the scattering from the junction. If the surface velocities have the same sign, we show that there can be edge states which propagate along the line junction with a velocity and orientation of the spin which depend on αand the ratio of the ve…
We experimentally investigate Andreev transport through a single junction between an s-wave indium superconductor and a thick film of a three-dimensional $Bi_2Te_3$ topological insulator. We study $Bi_2Te_3$ samples with different bulk and surface characteristics, where the presence of a topological surface state is confirmed by direct ARPES measurements. All the junctions demonstrate Andreev transport within the superconducting gap. For junctions with transparent $In-Bi_2Te_3$ interfaces we find a number of nearly periodic conductance oscillations, which are accompanied by zero-bias conductan…
We study the properties of a family of anti-pervoskite materials, which are topological crystalline insulators with an insulating bulk but a conducting surface. Using ab-initio DFT calculations, we investigate the bulk and surface topology and show that these materials exhibit type-I as well as type-II Dirac surface states protected by reflection symmetry. While type-I Dirac states give rise to closed circular Fermi surfaces, type-II Dirac surface states are characterized by open electron and hole pockets that touch each other. We find that the type-II Dirac states exhibit characteristic van-H…
We study two microscopic models of topological insulators in contact with an $s$-wave superconductor. In the first model the superconductor and the topological insulator are tunnel coupled via a layer of scalar and of randomly oriented spin impurities. Here, we require that spin-flip tunneling dominates over spin-conserving one. In the second model the tunnel coupling is realized by an array of single-level quantum dots with randomly oriented spins. It is shown that the tunnel region forms a $π$-junction where the effective order parameter changes sign. Interestingly, due to the random spin or…
We theoretically investigate tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) devices, which are probing the spin-momentum coupled nature of surface states of the three-dimensional topological insulator Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$. Theoretical calculations are performed based on a realistic tight-binding model for Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$. We study both three dimensional devices, which exploit the surface states of Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$, as well as two-dimensional devices, which exploit the edge states of thin Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ strips. We demonstrate that the material properties of Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ allow a TMR ratio at room temperat…
Quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators are two-dimensional (2D) insulating states exhibiting properties similar to those of quantum Hall states but without external magnetic field. They have quantized Hall conductance $σ^H=Ce^2/h$, where integer $C$ is called the Chern number, and represents the number of gapless edge modes. Recent experiments demonstrated that chromium doped thin-film (Bi,Sb)$_2$Te$_3$ is a QAH insulator with Chern number $C=\pm1$. Here we theoretically predict that thin-film topological crystalline insulators (TCI) can host various QAH phases, when doped by ferromagneticall…
We theoretically study a Josephson junction formed by two finite-size $s$-wave SCs on a topological insulator under a magnetic field. At certain conditions, the junction hosts the chiral Majorana modes enclosing the two finite-size SCs. The interplay of the extended chiral Majorana modes and the states inside the junction can results in nontrivial topological effects such as the $2n π$ fractional AC Josephson effects predicted in Ref.~\cite{ChoiSim} We show that the $2n π$ fractional AC Josephson effects can occur in a realistic situation, such as the presence of the midgap states, without req…
We extend the theory of dipole moments in crystalline insulators to higher multipole moments. In this paper, we expand in great detail the theory presented in Ref. 1, and extend it to cover associated topological pumping phenomena, and a novel class of 3D insulator with chiral hinge states. In quantum-mechanical crystalline insulators, higher multipole bulk moments manifest themselves by the presence of boundary-localized moments of lower dimension, in exact correspondence with the electromagnetic theory of classical continuous dielectrics. In the presence of certain symmetries, these moments …
The ferromagnet-topological insulator-ferromagnet (FM-TI-FM) junction exhibits thermal and electrical quantum Hall effects. The generated Hall voltage and transverse temperature gradient can be controlled by the directions of magnetizations in the FM leads, which inspires the use of FM-TI-FM junctions as electrical and as heat switches in spintronic devices. Thermal and electrical Hall coefficients are calculated as functions of the magnetization directions in ferromagnets and the spin-relaxation time in TI. Both the Hall voltage and the transverse temperature gradient decrease but are not com…
The low energy physics of both graphene and surface states of three-dimensional topological insulators is described by gapless Dirac fermions with linear dispersion. In this work, we predict the emergence of a "heavy" Dirac fermion in a graphene/topological insulator hetero-junction, where the linear term almost vanishes and the corresponding energy dispersion becomes highly non-linear. By combining {\it ab initio} calculations and an effective low-energy model, we show explicitly how strong hybridization between Dirac fermions in graphene and the surface states of topological insulators can r…
We theoretically predict two new classes of three-dimensional topological crystalline insulators (TCIs), which have an odd number of unpinned surface Dirac cones protected by crystal symmetries. The first class is protected by a single glide plane symmetry; the second class is protected by a composition of a twofold rotation and time-reversal symmetry. Both classes of TCIs are characterized by a quantized $π$ Berry phase associated with surface states and a $Z_2$ topological invariant associated with the bulk bands. In the presence of disorder, these TCI surface states are protected against lo…
We have studied thermoelectric effect of a Kane-Mele normal-insulator-superconductor (KMNIS) junction at ultra-low temperatures using a modified version of the well-known Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) theory. Since both the (electronic) charge and thermal current due to the carriers are sensitive to the strengths of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) present in the Kane-Mele model, a tunability of this junction device with regard to its thermoelectric properties can be experimentally achieved by certain techniques that are used to manipulate the values of the spin-orbit couplings. We have computed…
Breaking Hermiticity in topological systems gives rise to intriguing phenomena, such as the exceptional topology and the non-Hermitian skin effect. In this work, we study a non-Hermitian topological crystalline insulator sitting on the Kekulé-modulated honeycomb lattice with balanced gain and loss. We find that the gaplessness of the topological edge states in the non-Hermitian system is insensitive to edge geometries under moderate strength of gain and loss, unlike the cases of Hermitian topological crystalline insulators that depend on edge geometries crucially. We focus on two types of gain…
Topological insulators (TIs) and topological crystal insulators (TCIs) exhibit exotic surface properties. We present optimised growth procedures to obtain high quality bulk crystals of the TCIs Pb_(1-x)Sn_(x)Te and Pb_(1-x)Sn_(x)Se, and nanowires from the bulk crystals using the vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) technique. Nanowires of Pb_(1-x)Sn_(x)Te have been produced with a Sn composition of approx. x = 0.25, at which a transition from trivial to non-trivial insulator is reported. The results obtained on the growth of nanomaterials of Pb_(1-x)Sn_(x)Se are also described. Detailed characterisation …
A higher-order topological insulator (HOTI) in two dimensions is an insulator without metallic edge states but with robust zero-dimensional topological boundary modes localized at its corners. Yet, these corner modes do not carry a clear signature of their topology as they lack the anomalous nature of helical or chiral boundary states. Here, we demonstrate using immunity tests that the corner modes found in the breathing kagome lattice represent a prime example of a mistaken identity. Contrary to previous theoretical and experimental claims, we show that these corner modes are inherently fragi…
We study what kind of topological crystalline insulator phase emerges from nodal line semimetal phases in the face-centered cubic system which is not indicated by topological indices when spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is introduced. We construct an effective model which hosts two different nodal lines phases, and calculated mirror Chern numbers in it by introducing SOC. As a result, we find that the two nodal line phases with different nodal line configurations are mapped to different topological crystalline insulator phases. This result shows that turning off SOC and checking the nodal line confi…
We report on the fabrication and measurements of a superconducting junction of a single-crystalline Au nanowire, connected to Al electrodes. Current-Voltage characteristic curve shows clear supercurrent branch below the superconducting transition temperature of Al and quantized voltage plateaus on application of microwave radiation, as expected from Josephson relations. Highly transparent (0.95) contacts very close to an ideal limit of 1 are formed at the interface between the normal metal (Au) and the superconductor (Al). The very high transparency is ascribed to the single crystallinity of a…
Based on $k\cdot p$ analysis and realistic tight-binding calculations, we find that time-reversal-breaking Weyl semimetals can be realized in magnetically-doped (Mn, Eu, Cr etc.) Sn$_{1-x}$Pb$_x$(Te,Se) class of topological crystalline insulators. All the Weyl points are well separated in momentum space and possess nearly the same energy due to high crystalline symmetry. Moreover, both the Weyl points and Fermi arcs are highly tunable by varying Pb/Sn composition, pressure, magnetization, temperature, surface potential etc., opening up the possibility of manipulating Weyl points and rewiring t…
