We construct supersymmetric solutions of theories of gauged $\mathcal{N}=1,d=5$ supergravity coupled to vector multiplets with a $\mathrm{U}(1)_{\rm R}$ Abelian (Fayet-Iliopoulos) gauging and an independent SU$(2)$ gauging associated to an $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ isometry group of the Real Special scalar manifold. These theories provide minimal supersymmetrizations of 5-dimensional SU$(2)$ Einstein-Yang-Mills theories with negative cosmological constant. We consider a minimal model with these gauge groups and the "magic model" based on the Jordan algebra $\bf{J}_{3}^\mathbb{C}$ with gauge group $\mathrm{SU}(3)\times\mathrm{U}(1)_{\rm R}$, which is a consistent truncation of maximal $\mathrm{SO}(6)$-gauged supergravity in $d=5$ and whose solutions can be embedded in Type IIB Superstring Theory. We find several solutions containing selfdual $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ instantons, some of which asymptote to AdS$_{5}$ and some of which are very small, supersymmetric, deformations of AdS$_{5}$. We also show how some of those solutions can be embedded in Romans' $\mathrm{SU}(2)\times\mathrm{U}(1)$-gauged half-maximal supergravity, which was obtained by Lu, Pope and Tran by compactification of the Type IIB Superstring effective action. This provides another way of uplifting those solutions to 10 dimensions.
We consider the supersymmetric WZNW model gauged in a manifestly supersymmetric way. We find the BRST charge and the necessary condition for nilpotency. In the BRST framework the model proves to be a Lagrangian formulation of the supersymmetric coset construction, known as the N=1 Kazama-Suzuki coset construction.
We discuss the N=2 supersymmetric extension of the gauged O(3) sigma model in (2+1) dimensions with an abelian Chern-Simons term. It is shown that the self-dual potential and the Bogomolny relations naturally appear as consequences of extended supersymmetry.
In this thesis we study maximally supersymmetric solutions of gauged supergravity theories, with special focus on anti-de Sitter solutions. The latter are relevant in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. In the first part we classify all maximally supersymmetric solutions of all gauged or deformed supergravity theories in $D \geq 3$ space-time dimensions. In the second part we exclusively study maximally supersymmetric AdS$_D$ solutions of gauged supergravities in dimensions $D \geq 4$. We discuss the structure of the allowed gauge groups as well as possible supersymmetry preserving defo…
We find a complete characterization of all the supersymmetric solutions of non-Abelian gauged N=1,d=5 supergravity coupled to vector multiplets and hypermultiplets: the generic forms of the metrics as functions of the scalars and vector fields plus the equations that all these must satisfy. These equations are now a complicated non-linear system and there it seems impossible to produce an algorithm to construct systematically all supersymmetric solutions.
We construct supersymmetric deformations of general, locally supersymmetric, nonlinear sigma models in three spacetime dimensions, by extending the pure supergravity theory with a Chern-Simons term and gauging a subgroup of the sigma model isometries, possibly augmented with R-symmetry transformations. This class of models is shown to include theories with standard Yang-Mills Lagrangians, with optional moment interactions and topological mass terms. The results constitute a general classification of three-dimensional gauged supergravities.
We study the supersymmetric extension of the gauged $ O(3) $ sigma model in $ 2+1 $ dimensions and find the supersymmetry algebra. We also discuss soliton solutions in case the Maxwell term is replaced by the Born-Infeld term. We show that by appropriate choice of the potential, the self-dual equations in the Born-Infeld case coincide with those of the Maxwell's case.
We study supersymmetric Janus solutions of dyonic $ISO(7)$-gauged $\mathcal{N}$ = 8 supergravity. We mostly find Janus solutions flowing to 3d $\mathcal{N}$ = 8 SYM phase which is the worldvolume theory on D2-branes and non-conformal. There are also solutions flowing from the critical points which are dual to 3d SCFTs from deformations of the D2-brane theory.
We present supersymmetric solutions for the theory of gauged supergravity in five dimensions obtained by gauging the shift symmetry of the axion of the universal hypermultiplet. This gauged theory can also be obtained by dimensionally reducing M-theory on a Calabi-Yau threefold with background flux. The solution found preserves half of the N=2 supersymmetry, carries electric fields and has nontrivial scalar field representing the CY-volume. We comment on the possible solutions of more general hypermultiplet gauging.
We show that the D=6 SU(2) gauged supergravity of van Nieuwenhuizen et al, obtained by dimensional reduction of the D=7 topologically massive gauged supergravity and previously thought not to be dimensionally reducible, can be further reduced to five and four dimensions. On reduction to D=4 one recovers the special case of the SU(2)XSU(2) gauged supergravity of Freedman and Schwarz for which one of the SU(2) coupling constants vanishes. Previously known supersymmetric electrovacs of this model then imply new ground states in 7-D. We construct a supersymmetric electrovac solution of N=2 SU(2) g…
We obtain a new gauged D=6, N=(1,1) pure supergravity by a generalised consistent Kaluza-Klein reduction of M-theory on K3 \times R. The reduction requires a conspiratory gauging of both the Cremmer-Julia type global (rigid) symmetry and the homogeneous rescaling symmetry of the supergravity equations of motion. The gauged supergravity is different from the Romans D=6 gauged supergravity in that the four vector fields in our new theory are all abelian. We show that it admits a supersymmetric (Minkowski)_4\times S^2 vacuum, which can be lifted to D=11 where it becomes the near-horizon geometry …
We determine and analyze maximally supersymmetric configurations in four-dimensional gauged N=2 supergravity, preserving eight supercharges. These models include arbitrary electric gaugings in the vector- and hypermultiplet sectors. We present several examples of such solutions and connect some of them to vacuum solutions of flux compactifications in string theory.
We consider soliton solutions in AdS$_{4}$ with a flat slicing and Wilson loops around one cycle. We study the phase structure and find the ground state and identify supersymmetric solutions as a function of the Wilson loops. We work in the context of a scalar field truncation of gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity, where all the dilatons are equal and all the axions vanish in the STU model. In this theory, we construct new soliton solutions parameterized by two Wilson lines. We find that there is a degeneracy of supersymmetric solutions. We also show that, for alternate boundary conditions, t…
We study wrapped brane configurations via possible maximally supersymmetric gauged supergravities. First, we construct various supersymmetric wrapped D3 brane configurations from D=5 N=8 SO(6) gauged supergravity. This procedure provides certain new examples of wrapped D3 branes around supersymmetric cycles inside non-compact special holonomy manifolds. We analyze their behaviors numerically in order to discuss a correspondence to Higgs and Coulomb branches of sigma models on wrapped D3 branes. We also realize supersymmetric wrapped M2 branes from D=4 N=8 SO(8) gauged supergravity. Then, we st…
It was recently proposed that N=1 supersymmetric gauged matrix models have a duality of order four - that is, a quadrality - reminiscent of infrared dualities of SQCD theories in higher dimensions. In this note, we show that the zero-dimensional quadrality proposal can be infered from the two-dimensional Gadde-Gukov-Putrov triality. We consider two-dimensional N=(0,2) SQCD compactified on a sphere with the half-topological twist. For a convenient choice of R-charge, the zero-mode sector on the sphere gives rise to a simple N=1 gauged matrix model. Triality on the sphere then implies a triality…
We study magnetically-charged supersymmetric flow equations in a consistent truncation of gauged $\mathcal{N}\,=\,8$ supergravity in five dimensions. This truncation gives gauged $\mathcal{N}\,=\,2$ supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets and two hypermultiplets. We derive magnetically-charged flow equations of scalar fields from vector and hypermultiplets. It turns out that there could be only up to two nontrivial scalar fields out of eight from the hypermultiplets. Along the way, we recover some known $AdS_3$ solutions of the flow equations.
In this paper we generalize our investigation of the unitarity of non-compact WZNW models connected to Hermitian symmetric spaces to the N=1 world-sheet supersymmetric extension of these models. We will prove that these models have a unitary spectrum in a BRST approach for antidominant highest weight representations if the level and weights of the gauged subalgebra are integers. We will find new critical string theories in 7 and 9 space-time dimensions.
We present a derivation of the N=1 and N=2 superconformal coset constructions starting from a supersymmetric WZW model where a diagonal subgroup has been gauged. We work in the general framework of self-dual (not necessarily reductive) Lie algebras; but even in the reductive case these results are new. We show that the BRST cohomology of the gauged supersymmetric WZW model contains the N=1 (and if it exists also the N=2) coset generators. We also extend the BRST analysis to show that the BRST cohomology of the supersymmetric WZW model agrees with that of an ordinary bosonic WZW model (in a rep…
In this work we extend the results of previous derivations of Seiberg-like dualities (level-rank duality) between gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten theories. The arguments in use to identify a potential dual for the supersymmetric WZW theory based on the coset $\frac{U(N+M)_k}{U(N)_k}$ can be extended to be applied to a wider variety of gauge groups, notably $\frac{USp(2N+2M)_{2k}}{USp(2N)_{2k}}$ and $\frac{SO(2N+2M)_{2k}}{SO(2N)_{2k}}$, which will be dealt with briefly. Most interestingly, non-supersymmetric versions of the latter theories can also be shown to have duals in a similar fashion. These r…
We construct new supersymmetric solutions, including AdS bubbles, in an N=2 truncation of five-dimensional N=8 gauged supergravity. This particular truncation is given by N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to two vector multiples and three incomplete hypermultiplets, and was originally investigated in the context of obtaining regular AdS bubble geometries with multiple active R-charges. We focus on cohomogeneity-one solutions corresponding to objects with two equal angular momenta and up to three independent R-charges. Curiously, we find a new set of zero and negative mass solitons asymptotic to …
We study supersymmetric solutions within seven-dimensional $N=2$ gauged supergravity coupled to three vector multiplets in seven dimensions. The gauged supergravity contains six vector fields that gauge the $SO(4)\sim SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetry and admits two $N=2$ supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacua with $SO(4)$ and $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}\subset SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetries. We consider solutions interpolating between two asymptotically locally $AdS_7$ geometries in the presence of a three-form field. For a particular value of the two $SO(3)$ gauge coupling constants, the $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}$ s…
We construct supersymmetric Janus solutions using four-dimensional $N=3$ gauged supergravity with $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ gauge group. The $N=3$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum with unbroken $SO(3)\times SU(3)$, identified with the compactification of eleven-dimensional supergravity on $AdS_4\times N^{010}$, provides a gravity dual of supersymmetric $N=3$ Chern-Simons-Matter theory in three dimensions with $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry. The Janus solutions accordingly describe supersymmetric conformal interfaces within this Chern-Simons-Matter theory via the AdS/CFT holography. We find two classes of Janu…
We give a large class of supersymmetric Janus solutions in $ω$-deformed (dyonic) $SO(8)$ maximal gauged supergravity with $ω=\fracπ{8}$. Unlike the purely electric counterpart, the dyonic $SO(8)$ gauged supergravity exhibits a richer structure of $AdS_4$ vacua with $N=8,2,1,1$ supersymmetries and $SO(8)$, $U(3)$, $G_2$ and $SU(3)$ symmetries, respectively. Similarly, domain walls interpolating among these critical points show a very rich structure as well. In this paper, we show that this gauged supergravity also accommodates a number of interesting supersymmetric Janus solutions in the form o…
We study fully supersymmetric $AdS_6$ vacua of half-maxi\-mal $N=(1,1)$ gauged supergravity in six space-time dimensions coupled to $n$ vector multiplets. We show that the existence of $AdS_6$ backgrounds requires that the gauge group is of the form $G'\times G"\subset SO(4,n)$ where $G'\subset SO(3,m)$ and $G"\subset SO(1,n-m)$. In the $AdS_6$ vacua this gauge group is broken to its maximal compact subgroup $SO(3)\times H'\times H"$ where $H'\subset SO(m)$ and $H"\subset SO(n-m)$. Furthermore, the $SO(3)$ factor is the R-symmetry gauged by three of the four graviphotons. We further show that …
We study supersymmetric $AdS_4$ black holes in matter-coupled $N=3$ and $N=4$ gauged supergravities in four dimensions. In $N=3$ theory, we consider $N=3$ gauged supergravity coupled to three vector multiplets and $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group. The resulting gauged supergravity admits two $N=3$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries. We find an $AdS_2\times H^2$ solution with $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry and an analytic solution interpolating between this geometry and the $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum. For $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled…
We consider the non-supersymmetric "magic" theories based on the split quaternion and the split complex division algebras. We show that these theories arise as "Ehlers" $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ and $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ truncations of the maximal supergravity theory, exploiting techniques related to very-extended Kac-Moody algebras. We also generalise the procedure to other $SL(n,\mathbb{R})$ truncations, resulting in additional classes of non-supersymmetric theories, as well as to truncations of non-maximal theories. Finally, we discuss duality orbits of extremal black-hole solutions in some of these …
Supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric deformations of large $N=(4,4)$ SCFT with superconformal symmetry $D^1(2,1;α)\times D^1(2,1;α)$ are explored in the gravity dual described by a Chern-Simons $N=8$, $(SO(4)\times SO(4))\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{12}$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions. For $α>0$, the gauged supergravity describes an effective theory of the maximal supergravity in nine dimensions on $AdS_3\times S^3\times S^3$ with the parameter $α$ being the ratio of the two $S^3$ radii. We consider the scalar manifold of the supergravity theory of the form $SO(8,8)/SO(8)\times SO(8)$ and fin…
We discuss the structure of supersymmetric solutions in the timelike case to general gauged N=2 d=4 supergravity theories coupled to non-Abelian vector multiplets and hypermultiplets.
We consider maximal gauged supergravity in 4D with ISO(7) gauge group, which arises from a consistent truncation of massive IIA supergravity on a six-sphere. Within its G$_2$ invariant sector, the theory is known to possess a supersymmetric AdS extremum as well as two non-supersymmetric ones. In this context we provide a first order formulation of the theory by making use of the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) formalism. This allows us to derive a positive energy theorem for both non-supersymmetric extrema. Subsequently, we also find novel non-supersymmetric domain walls (DW) interpolating between the su…
We investigate supersymmetric solutions of minimal gauged supergravity in five dimensions, in the timelike class. We propose an ansatz based on a four-dimensional local orthotoric Kaehler metric and reduce the problem to a single sixth-order equation for two functions, each of one variable. We find an analytic, asymptotically locally AdS solution comprising five parameters. For a conformally flat boundary, this reduces to a previously known solution with three parameters, representing the most general solution of this type known in the minimal theory. We discuss the possible relevance of certa…
We determine and classify the electric-magnetic duality orbits of fluxes supporting asymptotically flat, extremal black branes in $D=4,5,6$ space-time dimensions in the so-called non-supersymmetric magic Maxwell-Einstein theories, which are consistent truncations of maximal supergravity and which can be related to Jordan algebras (and related Freudenthal triple systems) over the split complex numbers $\mathbb{C}_{s}$ and the split quaternions $\mathbb{H}_{s}$. By studying the stabilizing subalgebras of suitable representatives, realized as bound states of specific weight vectors of the corresp…
We study the thermodynamics of the recently-discovered non-extremal charged rotating black holes of gauged supergravities in five, seven and four dimensions, obtaining energies, angular momenta and charges that are consistent with the first law of thermodynamics. We obtain their supersymmetric limits by using these expressions together with an analysis of the AdS superalgebras including R-charges. We give a general discussion of the global structure of such solutions, and apply it in the various cases. We obtain new regular supersymmetric black holes in seven and four dimensions, as well as re…
We give a large class of supersymmetric domain walls in maximal seven-dimensional gauged supergravity with various types of gauge groups. Gaugings are described by components of the embedding tensor transforming in representations $\mathbf{15}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}$ of the global symmetry $SL(5)$. The embedding tensor in $\mathbf{15}$ representation leads to $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ gauge groups while gaugings in $\overline{\mathbf{40}}$ representation describes $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. These gaugings admit half-supersymmetric domain walls as vacuum solutions. On the other hand, gaugings …
We formulate a gauged linear sigma model on a supermanifold. The structure of classical vacua is investigated and one-loop corrections are calculated for an auxiliary D-field. We find out a constraint for the one-loop divergence to vanish, which is consistent with a Ricci flatness condition for the supermanifold. Two types of D-branes are obtained by analysing supersymmetric boundary conditions. We also provide extensions to a non-abelian gauged linear sigma model and a (0,2) supersymmetric model.
In matter coupled $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions, we study supersymmetric $AdS_6$ black holes with various horizon geometries. We find new $AdS_2\,\times\,Σ_{\mathfrak{g}_1}\timesΣ_{\mathfrak{g}_2}$ horizons with $\mathfrak{g}_1>1$ and $\mathfrak{g}_2>1$, and present the black hole solution numerically. The full black hole is an interpolating geometry between the asymptotically $AdS_6$ boundary and the $AdS_2\,\times\,Σ_{\mathfrak{g}_1}\timesΣ_{\mathfrak{g}_2}$ horizon. We also find black holes with horizons of Kähler four-cycles in Calabi-Yau fourfolds and Cayley four-cycles in …
We find a large class of supersymmetric domain wall solutions from six-dimensional $N=(2,2)$ gauged supergravity with various gauge groups. In general, the embedding tensor lives in $\mathbf{144}_c$ representation of the global symmetry $SO(5,5)$. We explicitly construct the embedding tensors in $\mathbf{15}^{-1}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}^{-1}$ representations of $GL(5)\sim \mathbb{R}^+\times SL(5)\subset SO(5,5)$ leading to $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)\ltimes\mathbb{R}^4_{\boldsymbol{s}}$ gauge groups, respectively. These gaugings can be obtained from $S^1$ reductions of seven-dime…
D3-branes wrapping constant curvature Riemann surfaces give rise to 2D N = (0,2) SCFTs, where the superconformal fixed-points are mapped to vacua of 3D N =2 U(1)^3 gauged supergravity. In this work we determine the fermionic supersymmetry variations of the theory and present all supersymmetric solutions. For spacetimes with a timelike Killing vector, we identify new timelike warped AdS_3 (Gödel) and timelike warped dS_3 critical points. We outline the construction of numerical solutions interpolating between fixed-points, demonstrate that these flows are driven by an irrelevant scalar operator…
All purely bosonic supersymmetric solutions of minimal gauged supergravity in five dimensions are classified. The solutions fall into two classes depending on whether the Killing vector constructed from the Killing spinor is time-like or null. When it is timelike, the solutions are determined by a four-dimensional Kahler base-manifold, up to an anti-holomorphic function, and generically preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry. When it is null we provide a precise prescription for constructing the solutions and we show that they generically preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry. We show that $AdS_5$ is t…
We study supersymmetric $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_2\times Σ_3$ solutions, with $Σ_2=S^2,H^2$ and $Σ_3=S^3,H^3$, in five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to five vector multiplets. The gauge groups considered here are $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$, $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$ and $U(1)\times SL(3,\mathbb{R})$. For $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ gauge group admiting two supersymmetric $N=4$ $AdS_5$ vacua, we identify a new class of $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_2\times H^3$ solutions preserving four supercharges. Holographic RG flows describing twisted compactifications of $N=2$ four-dimens…
Worldsheet (0,2) gauged linear sigma models are often used to study supersymmetric heterotic string compactifications with non-trivial vector bundles. We make use of supersymmetric localization techniques to determine their one-loop partition functions. In particular we derive conditions which ensure that the full partition function is modular invariant and we propose a method to determine the massless and massive target space matter spectrum.
In $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions, we study supersymmetric $AdS_6$ black holes with various horizon geometries. We find a new $AdS_2\,\times\,Σ_{\mathfrak{g}_1}\timesΣ_{\mathfrak{g}_2}$ horizon solution with $\mathfrak{g}_1>1$ and $\mathfrak{g}_2>1$, and present the black hole solution numerically. The full black hole is an interpolating geometry between the asymptotically $AdS_6$ boundary and the $AdS_2\,\times\,Σ_{\mathfrak{g}_1}\timesΣ_{\mathfrak{g}_2}$ horizon. We calculate the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole and find a match with the recently calculated topologi…
We present globally supersymmetric models of gauged scale covariance in ten, six, and four-dimensions. This is an application of a recent similar gauging in three-dimensions for a massive self-dual vector multiplet. In ten-dimensions, we couple a single vector multiplet to another vector multiplet, where the latter gauges the scale covariance of the former. Due to scale covariance, the system does not have a lagrangian formulation, but has only a set of field equations, like Type IIB supergravity in ten-dimensions. As by-products, we construct similar models in six-dimensions with N=(2,0) supe…
We classify all supersymmetric solutions of minimal D=4 gauged supergravity with (2,2) signature and a positive cosmological constant which admit exactly one Killing spinor. This classification produces a geometric structure which is more general than that found for previous classifications of N=2 supersymmetric solutions of this theory. We illustrate how the N=2 solutions which consist of a fibration over a 3-dimensional Lorentzian Gauduchon-Tod base space can be written in terms of this more generic geometric structure.
We explore the spectrum of lower-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) solutions in $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions. The ansatz employed corresponds to D4-branes partially wrapped on various supersymmetric cycles in special holonomy manifolds. Re-visiting and extending previous results, we study the cases of two, three, and four-dimensional supersymmetric cycles within Calabi-Yau threefold, fourfold, $G_2$, and Spin(7) holonomy manifolds. We also report on non-supersymmetric AdS vacua, and check their stability in the consistently truncated lower-dimensional effective action, using the…
We perform the characterization program for the supersymmetric configurations and solutions of the $\mathcal{N}=1$, $d=5$ Supergravity Theory coupled to an arbitrary number of vectors, tensors and hypermultiplets and with general non-Abelian gaugins. By using the conditions yielded by the characterization program, new exact supersymmetric solutions are found in the $SO(4,1)/SO(4)$ model for the hyperscalars and with $SU(2)\times U(1)$ as the gauge group. The solutions also content non-trivial vector and massive tensor fields, the latter being charged under the U(1) sector of the gauge group an…
We construct a new $N=4$ non-semisimple gauged supergravity in three dimensions with $E_{6(2)}/SU(6)\times SU(2)$ scalar manifold and $SO(4)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^6$ gauge group. Depending on the values of the gauge coupling constants, the theory admits both the maximally supersymmetric $AdS_3$ vacuum preserving $SO(4)$ gauge symmetry and half-supersymmetric domain walls with unbroken $SO(4)$ symmetry. We give all scalar masses at the supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical point corresponding to an $N=(4,0)$ superconformal field theory (SCFT) in two dimensions. The scalar potential also admits two flat d…
We provide a classification of near-horizon geometries of supersymmetric, asymptotically anti-de Sitter, black holes of five-dimensional U(1)^3-gauged supergravity which admit two rotational symmetries. We find three possibilities: a topologically spherical horizon, an S^1 \times S^2 horizon and a toroidal horizon. The near-horizon geometry of the topologically spherical case turns out to be that of the most general known supersymmetric, asymptotically anti-de Sitter, black hole of U(1)^3-gauged supergravity. The other two cases have constant scalars and only exist in particular regions of thi…
We review on a recent construction of the on-shell supersymmetric brane action for the codimension-two branes with nonzero tension in the flux compactification of a 6D chiral gauged supergravity. On dimesionally reducing on 4D gauged supergravity for a new supersymmetric unwarped background with conical branes, we consider the modulus stabilization for determining the soft masses of the scalars localized on the branes and show that the bulk U(1)_R provides a new mechanism for mediating the SUSY breaking.
We review the classification of supersymmetric solutions to minimal gauged supergravity in four dimensions. After a short introduction to the main features of the theory, we explain how to obtain all its solutions admitting a Killing spinor. Then, we analyze the rich mathematical structure behind them and present the supersymmetric field configurations. Among them, we find supersymmetric black holes, quarter and half BPS traveling waves, kink solutions, and supersymmetric Kundt and Robinson-Trautman solutions. Finally, we generalize the classification to include external sources, and show a pa…
We analyze the timelike supersymmetric solutions of minimal gauged 5-dimensional supergravity for the case in which the Kähler base manifold admits a holomorphic isometry and depends on two real functions satisfying a simple second-order differential equation. Using this general form of the base space, the equations satisfied by the building blocks of the solutions become of, at most, fourth degree and can be solved by simple polynomic ansatzs. In this way we construct two 3-parameter families of solutions that contain almost all the timelike supersymmetric solutions of this theory with one an…
Through the construction of a complete non-linear Kaluza-Klein reduction ansatz from type IIB supergravity to Romans' F(4) gauged supergravity, we identify a recently discovered supersymmetric AdS_6 solution as the IIB uplift of the supersymmetric vacuum of Romans' theory. We present new IIB uplifts of a number of known solutions of Romans' theory and comment on supersymmetry in higher-dimensions where it is expected.
We have studied the most general N=2 supergravity in five dimensions in context with the orbifold theory based on $M_4 \times S^1/Z_2$. Various ways to treat the supersymmetry with singular sources placed in orbifold fixed points were proposed in past. Supersymmetric branes were consistently introduced in a bulk where a gauged supergravity was present. In this paper we find that in the $N=2,D=5$ supergravity with general gauging, the possibility to obtain a supersymmetric brane world is constrained. Imposing the compatibility of supersymmetry transformation rules with the orbifold condition, w…
We explore the construction of supersymmetric solutions of theories of N=2,d=4 supergravity with a SU(2) gauging and SU(2) Fayet-Iliopoulos terms. In these theories an SU(2) isometry subgroup of the Special Kahler manifold is gauged together with a SU(2) R-symmetry subgroup. We construct several solutions of the CP3 quadratic model directly in four dimensions and of the ST[2,6] model by dimensional reduction of the solutions found by Cariglia and Mac Conamhna in N=(1,0),d=6 supergravity with the same kind of gauging. In the CP3 model, we construct an AdS2xS2 solution which is only 1/8 BPS and …
It has been proven in arXiv:1303.0853 that all regular supersymmetric near-horizon geometries in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity admit automatic supersymmetry enhancement. Using this result, the integrability conditions associated with the existence of the additional supersymmetry are analysed, and the near-horizon geometries are determined explicitly. We show that they all correspond to previously constructed examples. Hence, there are no supersymmetric black ring solutions in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity.
We investigate $α'$-corrections of heterotic double field theory up to quadratic order in the language of supersymmetric O(D,D+dim G) gauged double field theory. After introducing double-vielbein formalism with a parametrization which reproduces heterotic supergravity, we show that supersymmetry for heterotic double field theory up to leading order $α'$-correction is obtained from supersymmetric gauged double field theory. We discuss the necessary modifications of the symmetries defined in supersymmetric gauged double field theory. Further, we construct supersymmetric completion at quadratic o…
In this note we construct rigidly supersymmetric gauged sigma models and gauge theories on certain Einstein four-manifolds, and discuss constraints on these theories. In work elsewhere, it was recently shown that on some nontrivial Einstein four-manifolds such as AdS$_4$, N=1 rigidly supersymmetric sigma models are constrained to have target spaces with exact Kähler forms. Similarly, in gauged sigma models and gauge theories, we find that supersymmetry imposes constraints on Fayet-Iliopoulos parameters, which have the effect of enforcing that Kähler forms on quotient spaces be exact. We also d…
Six-dimensional (1,0) supersymmetric gauged Einstein-Maxwell supergravity is extended by the inclusion of a supersymmetric Riemann tensor squared invariant. Both the original model as well as the Riemann tensor squared invariant are formulated off-shell and consequently the total action is off-shell invariant without modification of the supersymmetry transformation rules. In this formulation, superconformal techniques, in which the dilaton Weyl multiplet plays a crucial role, are used. It is found that the gauging of the U(1) R-symmetry in the presence of the higher-order derivative terms does…
