In this work, we consider a vacuum solution of Kaluza-Klein theory with cylindrical symmetry. We investigate the physical properties of the solution as viewed in four dimensional spacetime, which turns out to be a stationary, cylindrical wormhole supported by a scalar field and a magnetic field oriented along the wormhole. We then apply a boost to the five dimensional solution along the extra dimension, and perform the Kaluza-Klein reduction. As a result, we show that the new solution is still a wormhole with a radial electric field and a magnetic field stretched along the wormhole throat.
The solution of the 5D Kaluza-Klein's theory is obtained. This solution is a Lorentzian wormhole between two event horizons. It is shown that this solution can sew with (4D Reissner-Nordström's solution + Maxwell's electrical field) on the event horizon. Such construction is composite wormhole connecting two asymptotically flat region. From the viewpoint of infinite observer this wormhole is an electrical charge. According to J. Wheeler terminology this is "charge without charge".
A new exact vacuum solution in five dimensions, which describes a magnetized cylindrical wormhole in $3+1$ dimensions is presented. The magnetic field lines are stretched along the wormhole throat and are concentrated near to it. We study the motion of neutral and charged test particles under the influence of the magnetized wormhole. The effective potential for a neutral test particle around and across the magnetized wormhole has a repulsive character. The gravitational lensing for the magnetized wormhole for various lens parameters are calculated and compared. The total magnetic flux on eithe…
We construct an exact stationary solution of black hole -- bubble sequence in the five dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory by using solitonic solution generating techniques. The solution describes two boosted black holes with topology S^3 on a Kaluza-Klein bubble and has a linear momentum component in the compactified direction. The ADM mass and the linear momentum depend on the two boosted velocity parameters of black holes. In the effective four dimensional theory, the solution has an electric charge which is proportional to the linear momentum. The solution includes the static solution found by…
In this paper spherically symmetric solutions to 5D Kaluza-Klein theory, with ``electric'' and/or ``magnetic'' fields are investigated. It is shown that the global structure of the spacetime depends on the relation between the ``electrical'' and ``magnetic'' Kaluza-Klein fields. For small ``magnetic'' field we find a wormhole-like solution. As the strength of the ``magnetic'' field is increased relative to the strength of the ``electrical'' field, the wormhole-like solution evolves into a finite or infinite flux tube depending on the strengths of the two fields. For the large ``electric'' fiel…
The detailed numerical and analytical approximate analysis of wormhole-like solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein gravity is given. It is shown that some part of these solutions with $E \approx H, E>H$ relation between electric $E$ and magnetic $H$ fields can be considered as a superthin and superlong gravitational flux tube filled with electric and magnetic fields, namely $Δ-$strings. The solution behaviour near hypersurface $ds^2=0$ and the model of electric charge on the basis of $Δ-$string are discussed. The comparison of the properties of $Δ-$string and ordinary string in string theory is carried …
We consider a Kaluza-Klein vacuum solution which is closely related to the Gross-Perry-Sorkin (GPS) magnetic monopole. The solution can be obtained from the Euclidean Taub-NUT solution with an extra compact fifth spatial dimension within the formalism of Kaluza-Klein reduction. We study its physical properties as appearing in $(3+1)$ spacetime dimensions, which turns out to be a static magnetic monopole. We then boost the GPS magnetic monopole along the extra dimension, and perform the Kaluza-Klein reduction. The resulting four-dimensional spacetime is a rotating stationary system, with both e…
In this work spherically symmetric solutions to 5D Kaluza-Klein theory, with "electric" and/or "magnetic" fields are examined. Different relative strengths of the "electric" and "magnetic" charges of the solutions are studied by varying certain parameters in our metric ansatz. As the strengths of these two charges are varied the resultant spacetime exhibits an interesting "evolution".
We study the classical and quantum Euclidean wormholes for an empty (4+1) dimensional Kaluza-Klein universe with a positive cosmological constant and a spatially flat Robertson-Walker type metric. It is shown that classical wormholes do not exist neither for the spacetime sector nor the extra dimensional sector of this model, but two spectrums of quantum wormholes as the solutions of Wheeler-DeWitt equation exist which are consistent with the Hawking-Page conjecture about the necessary boundary conditions. In the spectrum where the external scale factor $R$ shapes the quantum wormholes the int…
New spherically symmetric dyonic solutions, describing a wormhole-like class of spacetime configurations in five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory, are given in an explicit form. For this type of solution the electric and magnetic fields cause a significantly different global structure. For the electric dominated case, the solution is everywhere regular but, when the magnetic strength overcomes the electric contribution, the mouths of the wormhole become singular points. When the electric and magnetic charge parameters are identical, the throats ``degenerate'' and the solution reduces to the tri…
We study cylindrically symmetric Abelian wormholes (WhC) in $(4+n)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory. It is shown that static, four-dimensional, cylindrically symmetric solutions in $(4+n)$-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory with maximal Abelian isometry group $U(1)^n$ of the internal space with diagonal internal metric can be obtained, as in the case of a supersymmetric static black hole \cite{Cv}, only if the isometry group of the internal space is broken down to the $U (1)_e \times U(1)_m$ gauge group; they correspond to dyonic configurations with one electric $(Q_e)$ and one magnetic $(Q_m)$ c…
We consider wormhole solutions in five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein gravity in the presence of a massless ghost four-dimensional scalar field. The system possesses two types of topological nontriviality connected with the presence of the scalar field and of a magnetic charge. Mathematically, the presence of the charge appears in the fact that the $S^3$ part of a spacetime metric is the Hopf bundle $S^3 \rightarrow S^2$ with fibre $S^1$. We show that the fifth dimension spanned on the sphere $S^1$ is compactified in the sense that asymptotically, at large distances from the throat, the size of $S^1…

We use static solutions of 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein gravity to generate several classes of static, spherically symmetric spacetimes which are analytic solutions to the equation $^{(4)}R = 0$, where $^{(4)}R$ is the four-dimensional Ricci scalar. In the Randall $&$ Sundrum scenario they can be interpreted as vacuum solutions on the brane. The solutions contain the Schwarzschild black hole, and generate new families of traversable Lorenzian wormholes as well as nakedly singular spacetimes. They generalize a number of previously known solutions in the literature, e.g., the temporal and spatial …
We investigate the family of electrostatic spherically symmetric solutions of the five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory. Besides black holes and wormholes, a new class of geodesically complete solutions is identified. A monopole perturbation is carried out, enabling us to prove analytically the stability of a large class of solutions, including all black holes and neutral solutions.
The flux tube solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory can be considered as a string-like object - $Δ-$string. The initial 5D metric can be reduced to some inner degrees of freedom living on the $Δ-$string. The propagation of electromagnetic waves through the $Δ-$string is considered. It is shown that the difference between $Δ$ and ordinary strings are connected with the fact that for the $Δ-$string such limitations as critical dimensions are missing.
We extend the previous analysis of (locally) asymptotically flat solutions of Kaluza-Klein (KK) theory by assuming that the dilaton charge is an independent parameter. This corresponds to a general nondegenerate matrix of charges within the geodesic sigma model approach and comes into contact with singular solutions of the four-dimensional Einstein-scalar theory. New features of the degenerate class of solutions, which includes regular KK black holes, are also revealed. Solving the constraint equation, we find three distinct branches of the dilaton charge as a function of the other asymptotic …
We study the formation of superradiant bound states for massive scalar fields in five-dimensional rotating black string geometries with a non-vanishing Kaluza-Klein momentum along the compact direction. Even though all Kaluza-Klein modes may form bound states in this geometry, in realistic extra-dimensional models and astrophysical black holes only the zero-mode is sufficiently light for superradiant instabilities to develop, provided the field has a small but non-vanishing mass, as for example for axion-like particles. We use analytical and numerical methods to show that, although the Kaluza-…
Several electric/magnetic charged solutions (dyons) to 5D Kaluza-Klein gravity on the principal bundle are reviewed. Here we examine the possibility that these solutions can act as quantum virtual wormholes in spacetime foam models. By applying a sufficently large, external electric and/or magnetic field it may be possible to ``inflate'' these solutions from a quantum to a classical state. This effect could lead to a possible experimental signal for higher dimensions in multidimensional gravity.
We investigate the family of electrostatic spherically symmetric solutions of the five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory. Both charged and neutral cases are considered. The analysis of the solutions, through their geometrical properties, reveals the existence of black holes, wormholes and naked singularities. A new class of regular solutions is identified. A monopole perturbation study of all these solutions is carried out, enabling us to prove analytically the stability of large classes of solutions. In particular, the black hole solutions are stable, while for the regular solutions the stabili…
We consider a Kaluza-Klein string solution of five-dimensional spacetime. We study its physical properties as appearing in (3+1) spacetime. This metric embraces several different aspects of solutions. The two most notable examples are the dipole and the boosted dipole solutions. In general, the 4D metric is a rotating stationary solution with both electric and magnetic fields. The extension to the Kaluza-Klein dipole soliton solution is briefly discussed.
In this paper we construct and analyze new classes of wormhole and flux tube-like solutions for the 5D vacuum Einstein equations. These 5D solutions possess generic local anisotropy which gives rise to a gravitational running or scaling of the Kaluza-Klein ``electric'' and ``magnetic'' charges of these solutions. It is also shown that it is possible to self-consistently construct these anisotropic solutions with various rotational 3D hypersurface geometries (i.e. ellipsoidal, cylindrical, bipolar and toroidal). The local anisotropy of these solutions is handled using the technique of anholonom…
Pushing forward the similitudes between the gravitational collapse and the expansion of the universe (in the reversed sense of time), it should be expected that, during the collapse, eventually, a spacetime domain would be reached where attained energy scales are very high. In consequence some of the compactified extra dimensions may be decompactified and some presently broken symmetries may be restored. A more fundamental theory (of which Einstein's theory is a symmetry broken phase) is then expected to take account of further description of the collapse. I propose a simple (classical) model …
It is shown that in the standard vacuum 5D Kaluza-Klein gravity there is wormhole-like solutions which look like strings attached to two D-branes. The asymptotical behaviour of the corresponding metric is investigated.
5D Kaluza-Klein gravity has several nonasymptotically flat solutions which generally, possessed both electric and magnetic charges. In this paper we suggest that these solutions can act as quantum virtual handles (wormholes) in spacetime foam models. By applying a sufficently large, external electric and/or magnetic field it may be possible to ``inflate'' these solutions from a quantum to a classical state. This effect would lead to a possible experimental signal for higher dimensions in multidimensional gravity.
Classical solutions describing charged dilaton black holes accelerating in a background magnetic field have recently been found. They include the Ernst metric of the Einstein-Maxwell theory as a special case. We study the extremal limit of these solutions in detail, both at the classical and quantum levels. It is shown that near the event horizon, the extremal solutions reduce precisely to the static extremal black hole solutions. For a particular value of the dilaton coupling, these extremal black holes are five dimensional Kaluza-Klein monopoles. The euclidean sections of these solutions can…
We investigate velocity frame dragging with the boosted Schwarzschild black string solution and the boosted Kaluza-Klein bubble solution, in which a translational symmetry along the boosted $z$-coordinate is implemented. The velocity frame dragging effect can be nullified by the motion of an observer using the boost symmetry along the $z-$coordinate if it is not compact. However, in spacetime with the compact $z-$coordinate, we show that the effect cannot be removed since the compactification breaks the global Lorentz boost symmetry. As a result, the comoving velocity is dependent on $r$ and t…
It is shown that in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory there are everywhere regular wormhole-like solutions in which the magnetic field at the center is the origin of a rotation on the peripheral part of these solutions. The time on the peripheral part is topologically non-trivial and magnetic field is suppressed in comparison with the electric one.
The following mechanism of action of Time machine is considered. Let space-time $<V^4, g_{ik}>$ be a leaf of a foliation F of codimension 1 in 5-dimensional Lorentz manifold $<V^5, G_{AB}>$. If the Godbillon-Vey class $GV(F) \neq 0$ then the foliation F has resilient leaves. Let $V^4$ be a resilient leaf. Hence there exists an arbitrarily small neighborhood $U_a \subset V^5$ of the event $a \in V^4$ such that $U_a \cap V^4$ consists of at least two connected components $U_a^1$ and $U_a^2$. Remove the four-dimensional balls $B_a\subset U_a^1, B_b\subset U_a^2$, where an event $b\in U_a^2$, and …
We present f(R) theories of ten-dimensional supergravities, including the fermionic sector up to the quadratic order in fermion fields. They are obtained by performing the conformal scaling on the usual supergravities to the f(R) frame in which the dilaton becomes an auxiliary field and can be integrated out. The f(R) frame coincides with that of M-theory, D2-branes or NS-NS 5-branes. We study various BPS p-brane solutions and their near-horizon AdS \times sphere geometries in the context of the f(R) theories. We find that new solutions emerge with global structures that do not exist in the co…
We review some results concerning the properties of static, spherically symmetric solutions of multidimensional theories of gravity: various scalar-tensor theories and a generalized string-motivated model with multiple scalar fields and fields of antisymmetric forms associated with p-branes. A Kaluza-Klein type framework is used: there is no dependence on internal coordinates but multiple internal factor spaces are admitted. We discuss the causal structure and the existence of black holes, wormholes and particle-like configurations in the case of scalar vacuum with arbitrary potentials as well…
