We give criteria for weak and strong invariant closed sets for differential inclusions given in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and governed by Lipschitz Cusco perturbations of maximal monotone operators. Correspondingly, we provide different characterizations for the\ associated strong Lyapunov functions. The resulting conditions only depend on the data of the system.
In this paper, we introduce for the first time a class of state-dependent maximal monotone differential inclusions. Then the existence and uniqueness of solutions are obtained by using an implicit discretization scheme and a kind of hypo-monotonicity assumption respectively. In addition, a characterization for nonsmooth Lyapunov pairs associated with such systems is provided. Our result can be applied to study state-dependent sweeping processes and Lur'e dynamical systems. It is new even the involved maximal monotone operators depend only on the time.

The general theory of Lyapunov's stability of first-order differential inclusions in Hilbert spaces has been studied by the authors in a previous work. This new contribution focuses on the natural case when the maximally monotone operator governing the given inclusion has a domain with nonempty interior. This setting permits to have nonincreasing Lyapunov functions on the whole trajectory of the solution to the given differential inclusion. It also allows some more explicit criteria for Lyapunov's pairs. Some consequences to the viability of closed sets are given, as well as some useful cases …
The aim of this survey is to present the main important techniques and tools from variational analysis used for first and second order dynamical systems of implicit type for solving monotone inclusions and non-smooth optimization problems. The differential equations are expressed by means of the resolvent (in case of a maximally monotone set valued operator) or the proximal operator for non-smooth functions. The asymptotic analysis of the trajectories generated relies on Lyapunov theory, where the appropriate energy functional plays a decisive role. While the most part of the paper is related …
In a Hilbert framework, we introduce continuous and discrete dynamical systems which aim at solving inclusions governed by structured monotone operators $A=\partialΦ+B$, where $\partialΦ$ is the subdifferential of a convex lower semicontinuous function $Φ$, and $B$ is a monotone cocoercive operator. We first consider the extension to this setting of the regularized Newton dynamic with two potentials. Then, we revisit some related dynamical systems, namely the semigroup of contractions generated by $A$, and the continuous gradient projection dynamic. By a Lyapunov analysis, we show the converge…
In this paper, we study the existence and the stability in the sense of Lyapunov of solutions for\ differential inclusions governed by the normal cone to a prox-regular set and subject to a Lipschitzian perturbation. We prove that such, apparently, more general nonsmooth dynamics can be indeed remodelled into the classical theory of differential inclusions involving maximal monotone operators. This result is new in the literature and permits us to make use of the rich and abundant achievements in this class of monotone operators to derive the desired existence result and stability analysis, as…
Piecewise-Linear in Rates (PWLR) Lyapunov functions are introduced for a class of Chemical Reaction Networks (CRNs). In addition to their simple structure, these functions are robust with respect to arbitrary monotone reaction rates, of which mass-action is a special case. The existence of such functions ensures the convergence of trajectories towards equilibria, and guarantee their asymptotic stability with respect to the corresponding stoichiometric compatibility class. We give the definition of these Lyapunov functions, prove their basic properties, and provide algorithms for constructing t…
We study the stable behaviour of discrete dynamical systems where the map is convex and monotone with respect to the standard positive cone. The notion of tangential stability for fixed points and periodic points is introduced, which is weaker than Lyapunov stability. Among others we show that the set of tangentially stable fixed points is isomorphic to a convex inf-semilattice, and a criterion is given for the existence of a unique tangentially stable fixed point. We also show that periods of tangentially stable periodic points are orders of permutations on $n$ letters, where $n$ is the dimen…
We define and study $C^1-$solutions of the Aronsson equation (AE), a second order quasi linear equation. We show that such super/subsolutions make the Hamiltonian monotone on the trajectories of the closed loop Hamiltonian dynamics. We give a short, general proof that $C^1-$solutions are absolutely minimizing functions. We discuss how $C^1-$supersolutions of (AE) become special Lyapunov functions of symmetric control systems, and allow to find continuous feedbacks driving the system to a target in finite time, except on a singular manifold. A consequence is a simple proof that the correspondin…
In this paper we investigate in a Hilbert space setting a second order dynamical system of the form $$\ddot{x}(t)+\g(t)\dot{x}(t)+x(t)-J_{λ(t) A}\big(x(t)-λ(t) D(x(t))-λ(t)β(t)B(x(t))\big)=0,$$ where $A:{\mathcal H}\toto{\mathcal H}$ is a maximal monotone operator, $J_{λ(t) A}:{\mathcal H}\To{\mathcal H}$ is the resolvent operator of $λ(t)A$ and $D,B: {\mathcal H}\rightarrow{\mathcal H}$ are cocoercive operators, and $λ,β:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow (0,+\infty)$, and $γ:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow (0,+\infty)$ are step size, penalization and, respectively, damping functions, all depending on time. We sh…

Feed-forward neural networks (FNNs) work as standard building blocks in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to the physical world. They allow learning the dynamics of unknown physical systems (e.g., biological and chemical) {to predict their future behavior}. However, they are likely to violate the physical constraints of those systems without proper treatment. This work focuses on imposing two important physical constraints: monotonicity (i.e., a partial order of system states is preserved over time) and stability (i.e., the system states converge over time) when using FNNs to learn physica…
We propose and analyze a new dynamical system with a closed-loop control law in a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, aiming to shed light on the acceleration phenomenon for \textit{monotone inclusion} problems, which unifies a broad class of optimization, saddle point and variational inequality (VI) problems under a single framework. Given $A: \mathcal{H} \rightrightarrows \mathcal{H}$ that is maximal monotone, we propose a closed-loop control system that is governed by the operator $I - (I + λ(t)A)^{-1}$, where a feedback law $λ(\cdot)$ is tuned by the resolution of the algebraic equation $λ(t)\|(I…
In this paper, we develop a new approach to study gain operators built from the interconnection gains of infinite networks of dynamical systems. Our focus is on the construction of paths of strict decay which are used for building Lyapunov functions for the network and thus proving various stability properties, including input-to-state stability. Our approach is based on the study of an augmented gain operator whose fixed points are precisely the points of decay for the original gain operator. We show that plenty of such fixed points exist under a uniform version of the no-joint-increase condi…
