On kernels of cellular covers

In the present paper we continue to examine cellular covers of groups, focusing on the cardinality and the structure of the kernel K of the cellular map G-> M . We show that in general a torsion free reduced abelian group M may have a proper class of non-isomorphic cellular covers. In other words, the cardinality of the kernels is unbounded. In the opposite direction we show that if the kernel of a cellular cover of any group M has certain ``freeness'' properties, then its cardinality must be bounded.

On cellular covers with free kernels

Recall that a homomorphism of $R$-modules $π: G\to H$ is called a {\it cellular cover} over $H$ if $π$ induces an isomorphism $π_*: \Hom_R(G,G)\cong \Hom_R(G,H),$ where $π_*(φ)= πφ$ for each $φ\in \Hom_R(G,G)$ (where maps are acting on the left). In this paper we show that every cotorsion-free module $K$ of finite rank can be realized as the kernel of a cellular cover of some cotorsion-free module of rank 2. Cellular chain complexes of universal covers of some 3-manifolds

For a closed 3-manifold $M$ in a certain class, we give a presentation of the cellular chain complex of the universal cover of $M$. The class includes all surface bundles, some surgeries of knots in $S^3$, some cyclic branched cover of $S^3$, and some Seifert manifolds. In application, we establish a formula for calculating the linking form of a cyclic branched cover of $S^3$, and develop procedures of computing some Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants.

Localization with respect to a class of maps II - Equivariant cellularization and its application

We present an example of a homotopical localization functor which is not a localization with respect to any set of maps. Our example arises from equivariant homotopy theory. The technique of equivariant cellularization is developed and applied to the proof of the main result.

Cellular approximations of p-local compact groups

Let A be the classifying space of an abelian p-torsion group. We compute A-cellular approximations (in the sense of Chachólski and Farjoun) of classifying spaces of p-local compact groups, with special emphasis in the cases which arise from honest compact Lie groups.

Cellular cohomology of posets with local coefficients

We describe a "cellular" approach to the computation of the cohomology of a poset with coefficients in a presheaf. A cellular cochain complex is constructed, described explicitly and shown to compute the cohomology under certain circumstances. The descriptions are refined further for certain classes of posets including the cell posets of regular CW-complexes and geometric lattices.
