We report $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) / nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies on LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$. There are two superconducting domes in this material. The first one appears at 0.03 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.2 with $T_{\rm c}$$^{max}$ = 27 K, and the second one at 0.25 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.75 with $T_{\rm c}$$^{max}$ = 30 K. By NMR and TEM, we demonstrate that a $C4$-to-$C2$ structural phase transition (SPT) takes place above both domes, with the transition temperature $T_{\rm s}$ varying strongly with $x$. In the first dome, the SPT is followed by an antiferromagnetic (AF) transition, but neither AF order nor low-energy spin fluctuations are found in the second dome. In LaFeAsO$_{0.97}$F$_{0.03}$, we find that AF order and superconductivity coexist microscopically via $^{75}$As nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/$T_1$) measurements. In the coexisting region, 1/$T_1$ decreases at $T_{\rm c}$ but becomes to be proportional to $T$ below 0.6$T_{\rm c}$, indicating gapless excitations. Therefore, in contrast to the early reports, the obtained phase diagram for $x \leq$ 0.2 is quite similar to the doped BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ system. The electrical resistivity in the second dome can be fitted by $ρ= {{ρ}_{0}}+A{{T}^{n}}$ with $n$ = 1 and a maximal coefficient $A$ at around $x_{opt}$ = 0.5$\sim$0.55 where $T_{\rm s}$ extrapolates to zero and $T_{\rm c}$ is the maximal, which suggest the importance of quantum critical fluctuations associated with the SPT. We have constructed a complete phase diagram of LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$, which provides insight into the relationship between SPT, antiferromagnetism and superconductivity.
High temperature superconductivity is often found in the vicinity of antiferromagnetism. This is also true in LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$ ($x \leq$ 0.2) and many other iron-based superconductors, which leads to proposals that superconductivity is mediated by fluctuations associated with the nearby magnetism. Here we report the discovery of a new superconductivity dome without low-energy magnetic fluctuations in LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$ with 0.25$\leq x \leq$0.75, where the maximal critical temperature $T_c$ at $x_{opt}$ = 0.5$\sim$0.55 is even higher than that at $x \leq$ 0.2. By nuclear magnetic res…
Iron arsenide superconductors based on the material LaFeAsO1-xFx are characterized by a two-dimensional Fermi surface (FS) consisting of hole and electron pockets yielding structural and antiferromagnetic transitions at x = 0. Electron doping by substituting O2- with F- suppresses these transitions and gives rise to superconductivity with a maximum Tc = 26 K at x = 0.1. However, the over-doped region cannot be accessed due to the poor solubility of F- above x = 0.2. Here we overcome this problem by doping LaFeAsO with hydrogen. We report the phase diagram of LaFeAsO1-xHx (x < 0.53) and, in add…
We use a Green's function method to study the temperature-dependent average moment and magnetic phase-transition temperature of the striped antiferromagnetism of LaFeAsO, and other similar compounds, as the parents of FeAs-based superconductors. We consider the nearest and the next-nearest couplings in the FeAs layer, and the nearest coupling for inter-layer spin interaction. The dependence of the transition temperature TN and the zero-temperature average spin on the interaction constants is investigated. We obtain an analytical expression for TN and determine our temperature-dependent average…
We studied double superconducting (SC) domes in LaFeAsO1-xHx by using 75As- and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, and unexpectedly discovered that a new antiferromagnetic (AF) phase follows the double SC domes on further H doping, forming a symmetric alignment of AF and SC phases in the electronic phase diagram. We demonstrated that the new AF ordering originates from the nesting between electron pockets, unlike the nesting between electron and hole pockets as seen in the majority of undoped pnictides. The new AF ordering is derived from the features common to high-Tc pnictides: howeve…
We report a systematic study by 75As nuclear-quadrupole resonance in LaFeAsO1-xFx. The antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation (AFSF) found above the magnetic ordering temperature TN = 58 K for x = 0.03 persists in the regime 0.04 < x < 0.08 where superconductivity sets in. A dome-shaped x-dependence of the superconducting transition temperature Tc is found, with the highest Tc = 27 K at x = 0.06 which is realized under significant AFSF. With increasing x further, the AFSF decreases, and so does Tc. These features resemble closely the cuprates La2-xSrxCuO4. In x = 0.06, the spin-lattice relaxation …

The electron-doped high-transition-temperature (T_c) iron-based pnictide superconductor LaFeAsO_{1-x}H_x has a unique phase diagram: superconducting (SC) double domes are sandwiched by antiferromagnetic phases at ambient pressure and they turn to a single dome with a maximum T_c that exceeds 45K at a pressure of 3.0 GPa. We studied whether spin fluctuations are involved in increasing T_c under a pressure of 3.0 GPa by using ^{75}As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. The ^{75}As-NMR results for the powder samples show that T_c increases up to 48 K without the influence of spin fluctuat…
The low energy electronic structure of LaFeAsO1-xHx (0.0 < x < 0.60), the system which exhibits two superconducting domes in its phase diagram, is investigated by utilizing the laser photoemission spectroscopy. From the precise temperature-dependent measurement of the spectra near the Fermi level, we find the suppression of the density of states with cooling, namely the pseudogap formation, for all doping range. The pseudogap in the low x range (i.e. the first superconducting dome regime) gets suppressed with increasing x, more or less similarly to the previous results in F-doped LaFeAsO syste…
We studied the electric and magnetic behavior near the phase boundary between antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) phases for a prototype of high-T_c pnictides LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} by using nuclear magnetic resonance, and found that paramagnetic-metal (PM) domains segregate from AF domains. PM domains grow in size with increasing electron doping level and are accompanied by the onset of superconductivity, and thus application of pressure or increasing the doping level causes superconductivity. The existence of PM domains cannot be explained by the existing paradigm that focuses only o…
To understand the recently established unique magnetic and superconducting phase diagram of LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$, we analyze the realistic multiorbital tight-binding model for $x=0 \sim 0.4$ beyond the rigid band approximation. Both the spin and orbital susceptibilities are calculated in the presence of the Coulomb and charge quadrupole interactions. It is found that both orbital and spin fluctuations strongly develop at both $x \sim 0$ and 0.4, due to the strong violation of the rigid band picture in LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$. Based on this result, we discuss the experimental phase diagram, especi…
Recent several experiments revealed that novel bipartite magnetic/superconducting phases widely exist in iron pnictides and chalcogenides. Nevertheless, the origin of the two-dome superconducting phases in iron-based compounds still remains unclear. Here we theoretically investigated the electronic structures, magnetic and superconducting properties of three representative iron-based systems, i.e. LaFeAsO1-xHx, LaFeAs1-xPxO and KFe2As2. We found that in addition to the degenerate in-plane anisotropic xz/yz orbitals, the quasi-degenerate in-plane isotropic orbitals drive these systems entering …
Temperature dependence of resistivity under high pressures with magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the FeSe planes are measured in FeSe single crystals. It is found that the structural transition (nematic) temperature is suppressed by pressure and ends at around $P$ = 1.18 GPa. Below around 0.85 GPa, the superconducting transition shows a narrow width with no indication of antiferromagnetic order. While above this pressure, the superconducting transition temperature drops slightly forming a small dome of superconducting region with the maximum $T_c$ at around 0.825 GPa. Furthermore,…
We investigate the doping dependence of the magnetic excitations in two-superconducting-dome-system LaFeAsO1-xDx. Using inelastic neutron scattering, spin fluctuations at different wavenumbers were observed under both superconducting domes around x = 0.1 and 0.4, but vanished at x = 0.2 corresponding to the Tc valley. Theoretical calculations indicate that the characteristic doping dependence of spin fluctuations is rationally explained as a consequence of the switching of the two intra-orbital nestings within Fe-3dYZ, ZX and 3dX2-Y2 by electron doping. The present results imply that the multi…
Superconductivity (SC) in so-called "unconventional superconductors" is nearly always found in the vicinity of another ordered state, such as antiferromagnetism, charge density wave (CDW), or stripe order. This suggests a fundamental connection between SC and fluctuations in some other order parameter. To better understand this connection, we used high-pressure x-ray scattering to directly study the CDW order in the layered dichalcogenide TiSe2, which was previously shown to exhibit SC when the CDW is suppressed by pressure [1] or intercalation of Cu atoms [2]. We succeeded in suppressing the …
Many issues concerning the origin of high-temperature superconductivity (HTS) are still under debate. For example, how the magnetic ordering varies with doping and its relationship with the superconducting temperature; and why the maximal Tc always occurs near the quantum critical point. In this paper, taking hole-doped La2CuO4 as a classical example, we employ the first-principles band structure and total energy calculations and Monte Carlo simulations to explore how the symmetry-breaking magnetic ground state evolves with hole doping and the origin of a dome-shaped superconductivity region i…

In the generic phase diagram of heavy fermion systems, tuning an external parameter such as hydrostatic or chemical pressure modifies the superconducting transition temperature. The superconducting phase forms a dome in the temperature-tuning parameter phase diagram, which is associated with a maximum of the superconducting pairing interaction. Proximity to antiferromagnetism suggests a relation between the disappearance of antiferromagnetic order and superconductivity. We combine muon spin rotation, neutron scattering, and x-ray absorption spectroscopy techniques to gain access to the magneti…
Proximity to a Mott insulating phase is likely to be an important physical ingredient of a theory that aims to describe high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprates. Quantum cluster methods are well suited to describe the Mott phase. Hence, as a step towards a quantitative theory of the competition between antiferromagnetism (AFM) and d-wave superconductivity (SC) in the cuprates, we use Cellular Dynamical Mean Field Theory to compute zero temperature properties of the two-dimensional square lattice Hubbard model. The d-wave order parameter is found to scale like the superexchange coupli…
The discovery of superconductivity in LaFeAsO introduced the ferropnictides as a major new class of superconducting compounds with critical temperatures second only to cuprates. The presence of magnetic iron makes ferropnictides radically different from cuprates. Antiferromagnetism of the parent compounds strongly suggests that superconductivity and magnetism are closely related. However, the character of magnetic interactions and spin fluctuations in ferropnictides, in spite of vigorous efforts, has until now resisted understanding within any conventional model of magnetism. Here we show that…
We constructed an effective tight-binding model with five Cr $3d$ orbitals for LaOCrAs according to first-principles calculations. Basing on this model, we investigated possible superconductivity induced by correlations in doped LaOCrAs using the functional renormalization group (FRG). We find that there are two domes of superconductivity in electron-doped LaOCrAs. With increasing electron doping, the ground state of the system evolves from G-type antiferromagnetism in the parent compound to an incipient $s_\pm$-wave superconducting phase dominated by electron bands derived from the $d_{3z^2-r…
High-temperature (high-$T_{\rm c}$) superconductivity appears as a consequence of the carrier-doping of an undoped parent compound exhibiting antiferromagnetic order; thereby, ground-state properties of the parent compound are closely relevant to the superconducting state. On the basis of the concept, a spin-fluctuation has been addressed as an origin of pairing of the superconducting electrons in cuprates. Whereas, there is growing interest in the pairing mechanism such as an unconventional spin-fluctuation or an advanced orbital-fluctuation due to the characteristic multi-orbital system in i…
