We give the exact contributions of Harish-Chandra transform, $(\mathcal{H}f)(λ),$ of Schwartz functions $f$ to the harmonic analysis of spherical convolutions and the corresponding $L^{p}-$ Schwartz algebras on a connected semisimple Lie group $G$ (with finite center). One of our major results gives the proof of how the Trombi-Varadarajan Theorem enters into the spherical convolution transform of $L^{p}-$ Schwartz functions.
We prove that the Harish-Chandra--Schwartz space associated with a discrete subgroup of a semisimple Lie group is a dense subalgebra of the reduced $C^*$-algebra of the discrete subgroup. Then, we prove that for the reduced $C^*$-norm is controlled by the norm of the Harish-Chandra--Schwartz space. This inequality is weaker than property RD and holds for any discrete group acting isometrically, properly on a Riemannian symmetric space.
We consider the notion of a confluent spherical function on a connected semisimple Lie group, $G,$ with finite center and of real rank $1,$ and discuss the properties and relationship of its algebra with the well-known Schwartz algebra of spherical functions on $G.$
Let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group with finite center. Let $Γ\subset G$ be a discrete subgroup. We study closed admissible irreducible subrepresentations of the space of distributions $\mathcal S(Γ\backslash G)'$ defined by Casselman, and their relations to automorphic forms.
Let $X= G/K$ symmetric space of non compact type, where $G$ is a rank-one connected semisimple Lie group with finite center. We shall look at the transform $ P_λf(x) = f \ast φ_λ(x)$, where, $λ\in \mathbb C$ and $φ_λ$ is the elementary spherical function. We shall try to characterizes the image of the Schwartz spaces $S^p(X) $ where $0 < p \leq 2$ under the above transform.
This paper contains a non-trivial generalization of the Harish-Chandra transforms on a connected semisimple Lie group $G,$ with finite center, into what we term spherical convolutions. Among other results we show that its integral over the collection of bounded spherical functions at the identity element $e \in G$ is a weighted Fourier transforms of the Abel transform at $0.$ Being a function on $G,$ the restriction of this integral of its spherical Fourier transforms to the positive-definite spherical functions is then shown to be (the non-zero constant multiple of) a positive-definite distri…
We have in [1] proposed a definition of cusp forms on semisimple symmetric spaces $G/H$, involving the notion of a Radon transform and a related Abel transform. For the real non-Riemannian hyperbolic spaces, we showed that there exists an infinite number of cuspidal discrete series, and at most finitely many non-cuspidal discrete series, including in particular the spherical discrete series. For the projective spaces, the spherical discrete series are the only non-cuspidal discrete series. Below, we extend these results to the other hyperbolic spaces, and we also study the question of when the…
It is well-known that the Harish-Chandra transform, $f\mapsto\mathcal{H}f,$ is a topological isomorphism of the spherical (Schwartz) convolution algebra $\mathcal{C}^{p}(G//K)$ (where $K$ is a maximal compact subgroup of any arbitrarily chosen group $G$ in the Harish-Chandra class and $0<p\leq2$) onto the (Schwartz) multiplication algebra $\bar{\mathcal{Z}}({\mathfrak{F}}^ε)$ (of $\mathfrak{w}-$invariant members of $\mathcal{Z}({\mathfrak{F}}^ε),$ with $ε=(2/p)-1$). The same cannot however be said of the full Schwartz convolution algebra $\mathcal{C}^{p}(G),$ except for few specific examples o…
We define a Fourier transform and a convolution product for functions and distributions on Heisenberg--Clifford Lie supergroups. The Fourier transform exchanges the convolution and a pointwise product, and is an intertwining operator for the left regular representation. We generalize various classical theorems, including the Paley--Wiener--Schwartz theorem, and define a convolution Banach algebra.
In this paper we show that functions of the form $\prod_{n\ge1}\frac{1}{\left(1+\frac{x^{2}}{a_{n}^{2}}\right)}$ where $a_{n}>0$ and $\sum_{n\ge1}\frac{1}{a_{n}^{2}}<\infty$ are in the Schwartz space of the real line, answering a question raised by Casselman. As a consequence we obtain substantial simplifications in the proofs of Dixmier and Malliavin of their theorem that every test function on a Lie group is a finite linear combination of convolutions of two test functions, and an analogue of this for Fréchet space Lie group representations.
Let $F(n)$ be a connected and simply connected free 2-step nilpotent lie group and $K$ be a compact subgroup of Aut($F(n)$). We say that $(K,F(n))$ is a Gelfand pair when the set of integrable $K$-invariant functions on $F(n)$ forms an abelian algebra under convolution. In this paper, we consider the case when $K=O(n)$. In this case, the Gelfand space $(O(n),F(n)$ is equipped with the Godement-Plancherel measure, and the spherical transform $\land:L_{O(n)}^{2}(F(n))\rightarrow L^{2}(Δ(O(n),F(n)))$ is an isometry. I will prove the Gelfand space $Δ(O(n),F(n))$ is equipped with the Godement-Planc…
Let (N,K) be a nilpotent Gelfand pair, i.e., N is a nilpotent Lie group, K a compact group of automorphisms of N, and the algebra D(N)^K of left-invariant and K-invariant differential operators on N is commutative. In these hypotheses, N is necessarily of step at most two. We say that (N,K) satisfies Vinberg's condition if K acts irreducibly on $n/[n,n]$, where n= Lie(N). Fixing a system D of d formally self-adjoint generators of D(N)^K, the Gelfand spectrum of the commutative convolution algebra L^1(N)^K can be canonically identified with a closed subset S_D of R^d. We prove that, on a nilpot…
We realize the enveloping algebra of the positive part of a semisimple complex Lie algebra as a convolution algebra of constructible functions on module varieties of some Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras of dimension 1.
This paper outlines a covariant theory of operators defined on groups and homogeneous spaces. A systematic use of groups and their representations allows to obtain results of algebraic and analytical nature. The consideration is systematically illustrated by a representative collection of examples. Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a nilpotent Lie algebra which is also regarded as a homogeneous Lie group with the Campbell-Hausdorff multiplication. This allows to define a generalized multiplication $f \# g = (f^{\vee} * g^{\vee})^{\wedge}$ of two functions in the Schwartz class $\mathcal{S}(\mathfrak{g}^{*})$, where $\vee$ and $\wedge$ are the Abelian Fourier transforms on the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and on the dual $\mathfrak{g}^{*}$. In the operator analysis on nilpotent Lie groups an important notion is the one of symbolic calculus which can be viewed as a higher order generalization of the Wey…
The quantum enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ (and the quantum Schur algebras) was constructed by Beilinson-Lusztig-MacPherson as the convolution algebra of $GL_d$-invariant functions over the space of pairs of partial $n$-step flags over a finite field. In this paper we expand the construction to the mirabolic setting of triples of two partial flags and a vector, and examine the resulting convolution algebra. In the case of $n=2$, we classify the finite dimensional irreducible representations of the mirabolic quantum algebra and we prove that the category of such representations is semi…
This paper proves that the nearby cycles complexes on a certain family of PEL local models are central with respect to the convolution product of sheaves on the corresponding affine flag varieties. As a corollary, the semisimple trace functions defined using the action of Frobenius on those nearby cycles complexes are, via the sheaf-function dictionary, in the centers of the corresponding Iwahori-Hecke algebras. This is commonly referred to as Kottwitz's Conjecture. The reductive groups associated to the PEL local models under consideration are unramified unitary similitude groups with even di…
These lectures given in Montreal in Summer 1997 are mainly based on, and form a condensed survey of, the book by N. Chriss and V. Ginzburg: `Representation Theory and Complex Geometry', Birkhauser 1997. Various algebras arising naturally in Representation Theory such as the group algebra of a Weyl group, the universal enveloping algebra of a complex semisimple Lie algebra, a Quantum group or the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of bi-invariant functions (under convolution) on a p-adic group, are considered. We give a uniform geometric construction of these algebras in terms of homology of an appropriate …
