In this paper, phase transition of AdS black holes in lorentz breaking massive gravity has been studied in the framework of holography. We find that there is a first order phase transition(FPT) and second order phase transition(SPT) both in Bekenstein-Hawking entropy(BHE)-temperature plane and holographic entanglement entropy(HEE)-temperature plane. Furthermore, for the FPT, the equal area law is checked and for the SPT, the critical exponent of the heat capacity is also computed. Our results confirm that the phase structure of HEE is similar to that of BHE in lorentz breaking massive gravity, which implies that HEE and BHE have some potential underlying relationship.
According to the gauge/gravity duality, the Van der Waals transition of charged AdS black holes in extended phase space is conjectured to be dual to a renormalization group flow on the space of field theories. So exploring the Van der Waals transition is potentially valuable for studying holographic properties of charged black hole thermodynamics. There are different transition behaviors for charged dilatonic AdS black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theory with string-inspired potential with different dilaton coupling constants in diverse dimensions. In this work, we find a special cl…
The Van der Waals-like phase transition is observed in temperature-thermal entropy plane in spherically symmetric charged Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black hole background. In terms of AdS/CFT, the non-local observables such as holographic entanglement entropy, Wilson loop, and two point correlation function of very heavy operators in the field theory dual to spherically symmetric charged Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black hole have been investigated. All of them exhibit the Van der Waals-like phase transition for a fixed charge parameter or Gauss-Bonnet parameter in such gravity background. Further, with choosing v…
The Van der Waals(VdW) phase transition in a hairy black hole is investigated by analogizing its charge, temperature, and entropy as the temperature, pressure, and volume in the fluid respectively. The two point correlation function(TCF), which is dual to the geodesic length, is employed to probe this phase transition. We find the phase structure in the temperature$-$geodesic length plane resembles as that in the temperature$-$thermal entropy plane besides the scale of the horizontal coordinate. In addition, we find the equal area law(EAL) for the first order phase transition and critical expo…
With motivation by holography, employing black hole entropy, two point connection function and entanglement entropy, we show that, for the higher dimensional Anti-de Sitter charged hairy black hole in the fixed charged ensemble, a Van der Waals-like phase transition can be observed. Furthermore, based on the Maxwell's equal area construction, we check numerically the equal area law for a first order phase transition in order to further characterize the Van der Waals-like phase transition.
This paper is devoted to investigate the thermodynamic stability of a generic cosmological fluid known as Van der Waals fluid in the context of flat FRW universe. It is treated as a perfect fluid that obeys the equation of state $P=\frac{γρ}{1-βρ}-αρ^{2}, 0\leqγ<1$, where $ρ$ stands for energy density and $P$ stands for pressure of the fluid. In this regard, we discuss the behavior of physical parameters to analyze the evolution of the universe. We investigate whether the cosmological scenario fulfills the third law of thermodynamics using specific heat formalism. Next we discuss the thermal e…
We study the extended thermodynamics, obtained by considering the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic variable, of STU black holes in 4-dimensions in the fixed charge ensemble. The associated phase structure is conjectured to be dual to an RG-flow on the space of field theories. We find that for some charge configurations the phase structure resembles that of a Van der Waals gas: the system exhibits a family of first order phase transitions ending in a second order phase transition at a critical temperature. We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy for several charge configuratio…
Phase structure of the quintessence Reissner-Nordström-AdS black hole is probed with the nonlocal observables such as holographic entanglement entropy and two point correlation function. Our result shows that, as the case of the thermal entropy, both the observables exhibit the similar Van der Waals-like phase transition. To reinforce the conclusion, we further check the equal area law for the first order phase transition and critical exponent of the heat capacity for the second order phase transition. We also discuss the effect of the state parameter on the phase structure of the nonlocal obs…
The Anti-de Sitter-Reissner-Nordstrom (AdS-RN) black hole in the canonical ensemble undergoes a phase transition similar to the liquid-gas phase transition, i.e. the isocharges on the entropy-temperature plane develop an unstable branch when the charge is smaller than a critical value. It was later discovered that the isocharges on the entanglement entropy-temperature plane also exhibit the same van der Waals-like structure, for spherical entangling regions. In this paper, we present numerical results which sharpen this similarity between entanglement entropy and black hole entropy, by showing…
The phase structure of holographic entanglement entropy is studied in massive gravity for the quantum systems with finite and infinite volumes, which in the bulk is dual to calculate the minimal surface area for a black hole and black brane respectively. In the entanglement entropy$-$temperature plane, we find for both the black hole and black brane there is a Van der Waals-like phase transition as the case in thermal entropy$-$temperature plane. That is, there is a first order phase transition for the small charge and a second order phase transition at the critical charge. For the first order…
In this paper, we consider AdS black hole in $d$-dimensional space-time and calculate the logarithmic corrected thermodynamics quantities. We study the effects of thermal fluctuations on the thermodynamics of higher dimensional AdS black hole. We exploit such logarithmic corrected quantities to construct Van der Walls black holes solution and study the effects of logarithmic correction on the Van der Waals black holes. We also investigate the effect of thermal fluctuations on the equation of state. We find that the Van der Waals black hole is completely stable in the presence of the logarithmi…
In the context of extended phase space, where the negative cosmological constant is treated as a thermodynamic pressure in the first law of black hole thermodynamics, we find an asymptotically AdS metric whose thermodynamics matches exactly that of the Van der Waals fluid. However, we show that as a solution of Einstein's equations, the corresponding stress energy tensor does not obey any of the energy conditions everywhere outside of the horizon.
In this paper, we study the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) effects for the van der Waals (vdW) black holes. In order to obtain the GUP-corrected solution, we consider GUP-corrected black hole temperature. We also study the thermodynamics and phase transition of GUP-corrected vdW black holes. We compare the differences between thermodynamic properties of both modified and orginal solutions. We show that P-V criticality is physically acceptable in the presence of GUP-correction.
We study the extended phase space thermodynamics for hairy AdS black hole solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-$Λ$ theory conformally coupled to a scalar field in five dimensions. We find these solutions to exhibit van der Waals behaviour in both the charged/uncharged cases, and reentrant phase transitions in the charged case. This is the first example of reentrant phase transitions in a five dimensional gravitational system which does not include higher curvature corrections.
Motivated by recent developments in black hole thermodynamics, we investigate van der Waals phase transitions of charged black holes in massive gravity. We find that massive gravity theories can exhibit strikingly different thermodynamic behaviour compared to that of Einstein gravity, and that the mass of the graviton can generate a range of new phase transitions for topological black holes that are otherwise forbidden.
The holographic entanglement entropy is studied numerically in (4+1)-dimensional spherically symmetric Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole spacetime with compact boundary. On the bulk side the black hole spacetime undergoes a van der Waals-like phase transition in the extended phase space, which is reviewed with emphasis on the behavior on the temperature-entropy plane. On the boundary, we calculated the regularized HEE of a disk region of different sizes. We find strong numerical evidence for the failure of equal area law for isobaric curves on the temperature-HEE plane and for the correctness of fir…
The van der Waals quintessence equation of state is an interesting scenario for describing the late universe, and seems to provide a solution to the puzzle of dark energy, without the presence of exotic fluids or modifications of the Friedmann equations. In this work, the construction of inhomogeneous compact spheres supported by a van der Waals equation of state is explored. These relativistic stellar configurations shall be denoted as {\it van der Waals quintessence stars}. Despite of the fact that, in a cosmological context, the van der Waals fluid is considered homogeneous, inhomogeneities…
We start from an Einstein $-$ Maxwell system coupled with a charged scalar field in Anti$-$de Sitter space$-$time. In the setup where the pressure $P$ is identified with the cosmological constant, the AdS black hole (BH) undergoes the phase transition from small to large BHs, which is similar to the transition from liquid to gas in the van der Waals theory. Based on this framework, we study the triplet of holographic superconducting states, consisting of ground state and two lowest excited states. Our numerical calculations show that the pressure variation in the bulk creates a mechanism in th…
The Universe is modeled as a binary mixture whose constituents are described by a van der Waals fluid and by a dark energy density. The dark energy density is considered either as the quintessence or as the Chaplygin gas. The irreversible processes concerning the energy transfer between the van der Waals fluid and the gravitational field are taken into account. This model can simulate: (a) an inflationary period where the acceleration grows exponentially and the van der Waals fluid behaves like an inflaton; (b) an inflationary period where the acceleration is positive but it decreases and tend…
In this paper we have studied Van-Der-Waals fluid system with the generalized EOS as as discussed in the recent works of Kremer, G.M [1, 4], Vardiashvili, G [2], Jantsch, R.C [3], Capozziello, S [5]. and are functions of energy density and time that are different for the three types of Van der Waals fluid which are one parameter model, two parameters model and three parameters model. We have studied the changes in the parameters for different cosmic phases. We have also investigated the thermodynamics and the stability conditions for these three models. Finally, we have resolved the finite tim…
We consider the most general static spherically symmetric black hole metric. The accretion of the fluid flow around the Van der Waal's black hole is investigated and we calculate the fluid's four-velocity, the critical point and the speed of sound during the accretion process. We also analyze the nature of the universe's density and the mass of the black hole during accretion of the fluid flow. The density of the fluid flow is also taken into account. We observe that the mass is related to redshift. We compare the accreting power of the Van der Waal's black hole with Schwarzschild black hole f…
We analyze the properties of a generic cosmological fluid described by the van der Waals equation of state. Exact solutions for the energy density evolution are found as implicit functions of the scale factor for a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space-time. The possible values of the free parameter in the van der Waals equation are selected \emph{a posteriori}, in accordance with asymptotic behaviors that are physically relevant. The stability of the model against small perturbations is studied through the hydrodynamic perturbations of the fluid for the relevant cases. It is found that a van …
