We present the fully general time-dependent multiconfiguration self-consistent-field method to describe the dynamics of a system consisting of arbitrary different kinds and numbers of interacting fermions and bosons. The total wave function is expressed as a superposition of different configurations constructed from time-dependent spin-orbitals prepared for each particle kind. We derive equations of motion followed by configuration-interaction (CI) coefficients and spin-orbitals for general, not restricted to full-CI, configuration spaces. The present method provides a flexible framework for the first-principles theoretical study of, e.g., correlated multielectron and multinucleus quantum dynamics in general molecules induced by intense laser fields and attosecond light pulses.
We present an implementation of a time-dependent multiconfiguration self-consistent-field (TD-MCSCF) method [R. Anzaki et al., Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 19, 22008 (2017)] with the full configuration interaction expansion for coupled electron-nuclear dynamics in diatomic molecules subject to a strong laser field. In this method, the total wave function is expressed as a superposition of different configurations constructed from time-dependent electronic Slater determinants and time-dependent orthonormal nuclear basis functions. The primitive basis functions of nuclei and electrons are strictly in…
We are reinvestigating the hyperfine structure of sodium using a fully relativistic multiconfiguration approach. In the fully relativistic approach, the computational strategy somewhat differs from the original nonrelativistic counterpart used in Jönsson et al. (Phys. Rev. A 53 (1996) 4021). Numerical instabilities force us to use a layer-by-layer approach that has some broad unexpected effects. Core correlation is found to be significant and therefore requires to be described in an adequate orbital basis. The natural-orbital basis provides an interesting alternative to the orbital basis from …
The relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) and the non-relativistic multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) methods have been employed to calculate the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants of zinc. The calculated electric field gradients for the $ 4s 4p \,\, ^3 \! P^o_{1} $ and $ 4s 4p \,\, ^3 \! P^o_{2} $ states, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, made it possible to extract a nuclear electric quadrupole moment $ Q(^{67}{\rm Zn}) = 0.122(10) $ b. The error bar has been evaluated in a q…
In this Colloquium, the wavefunction-based Multiconfigurational Time-Dependent Hartree approaches to the dynamics of indistinguishable particles (MCTDH-F for Fermions and MCTDH-B for Bosons) are reviewed. MCTDH-B and MCTDH-F or, together, MCTDH-X are methods for describing correlated quantum systems of identical particles by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation from first principles. MCTDH-X is used to accurately model the dynamics of real-world quantum many-body systems in atomic, molecular, and optical physics. The key feature of these approaches is the time-dependence and optimiz…
Background: Atomic spectral lines from different isotopes display a small shift in energy, commonly referred to as the line isotope shift. One of the components of the isotope shift is the field shift, which depends on the extent and the shape of the nuclear charge density distribution. Purpose: To investigate how sensitive field shifts are with respect to variations in the nuclear size and shape and what information of nuclear charge distributions that can be extracted from measured field shifts. Methods: Nuclear properties are obtained from nuclear density functional theory calculations base…
We present the theoretical calculations of the electronic isotope shift factors of the $5d^{7}6s^{2} \ ^{4}\!F_{9/2} \to (\mbox{odd},J= 9/2)$ line at 247.587 nm, that were recently used to extract nuclear mean square radii and nuclear deformations of iridium isotopes [Mukai $\textit{et al.}$ (2020)]. The fully relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method and the relativistic configuration interaction method were used to perform the atomic structure calculations. Additional properties such as the $\textit{sharing rule}$, Landé $g$ factors or $\textit{phase tracking}$ were employed …
We calculated the magnetic dipole hyperfine interaction constants and the electric field gradients of $2p^53p~^2[3/2]_2$ and $2p^53s~^2[3/2]^o_2$ levels of Ne I by using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method. The electronic factors contributing to the isotope shifts were also estimated for the $λ= 614.5$ nm transition connecting these two states. Electron correlation and relativistic effects including the Breit interaction were investigated in details. Combining with recent measurements, we extracted the nuclear quadrupole moment values for $^{20}$Ne and $^{23}$Ne with a smaller unc…
Electron correlation effects play a key role in stabilising two-electron atoms near the critical nuclear charge, representing the smallest charge required to bind two electrons. However, deciphering the importance of these effects relies on fully understanding the uncorrelated Hartree-Fock description. Here, we investigate the properties of the ground state wave function in the small nuclear charge limit using various symmetry-restricted Hartree-Fock formalisms. We identify the nuclear charge where spin-symmetry breaking occurs to give an unrestricted wave function that predicts the ionisation…
We study static-field ionization of He-like ions with nuclear charge number in the range of $2\le Z \le 36$. Both the tunneling and over-the-barrier regimes are considered. We calculate the ionization rates by three approximate methods: a fitting formula based on the Perelemov-Popov-Terent'ev (PPT) formula, a perturbative expansion in powers of $1/Z$, and a single-active electron approximation, and compare them with reference ionization rates computed by the multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree-Fock (MCTDHF) approach. The relative deviation of the rates computed by the PPT-based fitting f…
We present the time-dependent complete-active-space self-consistent-field (TD-CASSCF) method to simulate multielectron dynamics in ultrafast intense laser fields from the first principles. While based on multiconfiguration expansion, it divides the orbital space into frozen-core (tightly bound electrons with no response to the field), dynamical-core (electrons tightly bound but responding to the field), and active (fully correlated to describe highly excited and ejected electrons) orbital subspaces. The subspace decomposition can be done flexibly, conforming to phenomena under investigation an…
The nuclear magnetic shielding is considered within the fully relativistic approach for the ground state of H-, Li-, and B-like ions in the range Z=32-92. The interelectronic interaction is evaluated to the first order of the perturbation theory in Li- and B-like ions. The calculations are based on the finite-field method. The numerical solution of the Dirac equation with the magnetic-field and hyperfine interactions included within the dual-kinetic-balance method is employed. The nuclear magnetic shielding constant is an important ingredient for accurate determination of the nuclear magnetic …
The nuclear recoil effect on the g factor of highly charged Li-like ions is evaluated in the range Z=10-92. The calculations are performed using the 1/Z perturbation theory. The one-electron recoil contribution is evaluated within the fully relativistic approach with the wave functions which account for the screening effects approximately. The two-electron recoil contributions of the first and higher orders in 1/Z are calculated within the Breit approximation using a four-component approach.
Fully relativistic approach is applied to evaluation of the nuclear recoil effect on the bound-electron $g$ factor in hydrogenlike ions to first order in the electron-to-nucleus mass ratio $m/M$ and to all orders in $αZ$. The calculations are performed in the range $1 \leqslant Z \leqslant 20$ for the $g$ factors of $1s$, $2s$, $2p_{1/2}$, and $2p_{3/2}$ states. The $αZ$-dependence of the nontrivial QED recoil contribution as a function of $Z$ is studied.
