The Nambu Jona-Lasinio model of chiral symmetry breaking predicts a second order chiral phase transition. If the fermions in addition have non-abelian gauge interactions then the transition is expected to become a crossover as the NJL term enhances the IR chiral symmetry breaking of the gauge theory. We study this behaviour in the holographic Dynamic AdS/QCD description of a non-abelian gauge theory with the NJL interaction included using Witten's multi-trace prescription. We study the behaviour of the mesonic spectrum as a function of the NJL coupling and the ratio of the UV cut off scale to the dynamical scale of the gauge theory.
Using the renormalization group (RG) approach and the equivalency between the class of gauge-Higgs-Yukawa models and the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model, we study the gauged NJL model in curved space-time. The behaviour of the scalar-gravitational coupling constant $ξ(t)$ in both theories is discussed. The RG improved effective potential of gauged NJL model in curved spacetime is found. The curvature at which chiral symmetry in the gauged NJL model is broken is obtained explicitly in a remarkably simple form. The powerful RG improved effective potential formalizm leads to the same result…
The formalism, which permits to study the phase structure of gauged NJL-model for arbitrary external fields, is developed. The effective potential in the gauged NJL model in the weak magnetic field is found. It is shown that in fixed gauge coupling case the weak magnetic field doesn't influence chiral symmetry breaking condition. The analogy with the situation near black hole is briefly mentioned.
We investigate the gauged NJL--model in curved spacetime using the RG formulation and the equivalency with the gauge Higgs--Yukawa model in a modified 1/N_c -expansion. The strong curvature induced chiral symmetry breaking is found in the non-perturbative RG approach (presumably equivalent to the ladder Schwinger--Dyson equations). Dynamically generated fermion mass is explicitly calculated and inducing of Einstein gravity is briefly discussed. This approach shows the way to the non-perturbative study of the dynamical symmetry breaking at external fields.
In this work we revisit questions recently raised in the literature associated to relevant but divergent amplitudes in the gauged NJL model. The questions raised involve ambiguities and symmetry violations which concern the model's predictive power at one loop level. Our study shows by means of an alternative prescription to handle divergent amplitudes, that it is possible to obtain unambiguous and symmetry preserving amplitudes. The procedure adopted makes use solely of {\it general} properties of an eventual regulator, thus avoiding an explicit form. We find, after a thorough analysis of the…
Non-perturbative renormalizability, or non-triviality, of the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in four dimensions is examined by using non-perturbative (exact) renormalization group in large $N_c$ limit. When running of the gauge coupling is asymptotically free and slow enough, the two dimensional renormalized trajectory (subspace) spanned by the four fermi coupling and the gauge coupling is found to exist, which implies renormalizability of the gauged NJL model. In the case of fixed gauge coupling, renormalizability of the model turns out to be guaranteed by the line of the UV fixed poin…
We calculate the one-point function of certain chiral operators, known as open Wilson lines, in the holographic Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model at finite temperature as well as finite chemical potential for quark (baryon) number density. These operators are holographically dual to Euclidean string worldsheets bounded by the flavor branes. Their one-point functions can serve as order parameters for chiral symmetry breaking in these models. Analyzing the behavior of the dual string worldsheets with respect to temperature and chemical potential (or quark density) enables us to determine how the or…
We have investigated the attractor structure for the CMB fluctuations in composite inflation scenario within the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Such composite inflation represents an attractor which can not be found in a fundamental scalar model. As is known, the number of inflationary models contains the attractor classified by the $α$-attractor model. It is found that the attractor inflation in the gauged NJL model corresponds to the $α= 2$ case.
We propose an axionic QCD string scenario based on the original flux-tube model by Kogut and Susskind, and then incorporate it into a gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Axial anomaly is studied by a new topological coupling from the string side, and by the 't Hooft vortex from the NJL side, respectively. The nontrivial phase distribution of the quark condensate plays an important role in this scenario.
Solutions describing holographic surface defects in $D=5,N=4$ gauged supergravity theories are constructed. It is shown that a surface defect solution in pure Romans' gauged supergravity is singular. Adding a single vector multiplet allows for the construction of a non-singular solution. The on-shell action and one point functions of operators in the presence of the defect are computed using holographic renormalization.
We construct solutions of four-dimensional $N=2$ gauged supergravity coupled to vector multiplets which are holographically dual to superconformal line defects. For the gauged STU and the $SU(1,n)/U(1)\times SU(n)$ coset models, we use the solutions to calculate holographic observables such as the expectation value of the defect and one-point functions in the presence of the defect.
This is a slightly expanded version of my talk at Future Perspectives in Theoretical Physics and Cosmology, Stephen Hawking's 60th Birthday Worshop. I describe some of the issues that were important in gauged supergravity in the 1980's and how these, and related issues have once again become important in the study of holographic field theories.
In this note we construct a solution of six-dimensional $F(4)$ gauged supergravity using $AdS_2\times S^3$ warped over an interval as an ansatz. The solution is completely regular, preserves eight of the sixteen supersymmetries of the $AdS_6$ vacuum and is a holographic realization of a line defect in a dual five-dimensional theory. We calculate the expectation value of the defect and the one-point function of the stress tensor in the presence of the defect using holographic renormalization.
We investigate phase structure of the D (> 4)-dimensional gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with $δ(=D-4)$ extra dimensions compactified on TeV scale, based on the improved ladder Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation in the bulk. We assume that the bulk running gauge coupling in the SD equation for the SU(N_c) gauge theory with N_f massless flavors is given by the truncated Kaluza-Klein effective theory and hence has a nontrivial ultraviolet fixed point (UVFP). We find the critical line in the parameter space of two couplings, the gauge coupling and the four-fermion coupling, which is similar to …
We report our recent results concerning d5 gauged supergravity (dilatonic gravity) considered on AdS background. The finite action on such background as well as d4 holographic conformal anomaly (via AdS/CFT correspondence) are found. In such formalism the bulk potential is kept to be arbitrary, dilaton dependent function. Holographic RG in such theory is briefly discussed. d5 AdS brane-world Universe induced by quantum effects of brane CFT is constructed. Such brane is spherical, hyperbolic or flat one. Hence, the possibility of quantum creation of inflationary brane-world Universe is shown.
Bosonic sector of d5 gauged supergravity with specific parametrization of full scalar coset is considered (multi-dilaton gravity). Using holographic RG in the form suggested by de Boer-Verlinde-Verlinde the holographic d4 conformal anomaly (in the sector of curvature invariants) is found when bulk potential is not constant. Its comparison with the earlier calculation done in the scheme where expansion of metric and dilaton over radial coordinate of AdS space is used demonstrates scheme dependence of holographic conformal anomaly. In AdS/CFT correspondence where dilatons play role of coupling c…
We study the holographic Dynamic AdS/QCD description of a SU($N_c$) non-abelian gauge theory with $N_f$ fermions in the fundamental representation which also have Nambu-Jona-Lasinio interactions included using Witten's multi-trace prescription. In particular here we study aspects of the dynamics in and near the conformal window of the gauge theory as described by the two loop running of the gauge theory. If the number of flavours is such that the IR fixed point lies with the anomalous dimension, $γ$, of the quark bilinear above one then chiral symmetry breaking occurs. Here we display a spiral…
We study a bottom-up holographic description of the QCD colour superconducting phase in the presence of higher derivative corrections. We expand this holographic model in the context of Gauss-Bonnet (GB) gravity. The Cooper pair condensate has been investigated in the deconfinement phase for different values of the GB coupling parameter $λ_{G B}$, we observe a change in the value of the critical chemical potential $μ_c$ in comparison to Einstein gravity. We find that $μ_c$ grows as $λ_{G B}$ increases. We add four fermion interactions and show that in the presence of these corrections the main…
We calculate the two-loop effective potential of the non-local NJL model derived from the Sakai-Sugimoto model in string theory. In contrast to conventional NJL with 4-fermion contact interaction, the chiral symmetry was previously found to be dynamically broken for arbitrary weak coupling at the one-loop level. As a confirmation, the approximate numerical solutions to the gap equation at one loop are explicitly demonstrated for weak couplings. We then calculate the one and two-loop contribution to the effective potential of the non-local NJL model and found that the two-loop contribution is n…
We use a holographic description of technicolor dynamics to study gauge theories that only break chiral symmetry when aided by a strong four fermion interaction. These Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) assisted technicolor models provide examples of different dynamics from walking technicolor which can, by tuning, generate a light higgs like $σ$ meson. We compute the vector meson ($ρ$) and axial vector meson (A) spectrum for a variety of models with techni-quarks in the fundamental representation, enlarging the available parameter space over a previous analysis of walking theories. These predictions de…
We perform a systematic search for static solutions in different sectors of 5d $N=8$ supergravities with compact and non-compact gauged R-symmetry groups, finding new and listing already known backgrounds. Due to the variety of possible gauge groups and resulting scalar potentials, the maximally symmetric vacua we encounter in these theories can be Minkowski, de Sitter, or anti-de Sitter. There exist BPS and non-BPS near-horizon geometries and full solutions with all these three types of asymptotics, corresponding to black holes, branes, strings, rings, and other black objects with more exotic…
d3 and d5 maximally SUSY gauged supergravity is considered in the parametrization (flow) of full scalar coset where the kinetic term for scalars takes the standard field theory form and the bulk potential is an arbitrary one subject to consistent parametrization. From such SG duals we calculate d2 and d4 holographic conformal anomaly which depends on bulk scalars potential. AdS/CFT correspondence suggests that such SG side conformal anomaly should be identified with (non-perturbative) QFT conformal anomaly (taking account of radiative corrections) for the theory living on the boundary of AdS s…
NJL interactions are introduced into the D3/ probe D7 system using Witten's double trace operator prescription which includes the operator as a classical term in the effective potential. In the supersymmetric system they do not induce chiral symmetry breaking which we attribute to the flat effective potential with quark mass in the supersymmetric theory. If additional supersymmetry breaking is introduced then standard NJL behaviour is realized. In examples where chiral symmetry breaking is not preferred such as with a B field plus an IR cut off chiral condensation is triggered by the NJL inter…
In this paper we study the holographic dual to a-maximization in five-dimensional N = 2 gauged supergravity. In particular, we apply the procedure described by Tachikawa to specific examples consisting of holographic duals to gauge theories arising as the IR limit of N M5-branes wrapping a Riemann surface. A key element of this analysis is a consistent truncation of seven-dimensional N = 4 SO(5) gauged supergravity reduced on a Riemann surface. We demonstrate the consistency of this truncation and match to a sector of five-dimensional matter-coupled N = 2 gauged supergravity. We determine the …
We study an $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ truncation of four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to six vector multiplets with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group and find a new class of holographic RG flows and supersymmetric Janus solutions. In this truncation, there is a unique $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum dual to an $N=4$ SCFT in three dimensions. In the presence of the axion, the RG flows generally preserve $N=2$ supersymmetry while the supersymmetry is enhanced to $N=4$ for vanishing axion. We find solutions interpolating between the $AdS_4$ vacuum and singular…
We study four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(4)\times SO(4)\sim SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group in the presence of symplectic deformations. There are in general four electric-magnetic phases corresponding to each $SO(3)$ factor, but two phases of the $SO(3)$ factors embedded in the $SO(6)$ R-symmetry are fixed. One phase can be set to zero by $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ transformations. The second one gives equivalent theories for any non-vanishing values and can be set to $\fracπ{2}$ resulting in gauged supergravities that admit $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua…
We explore five-dimensional ${\cal N}=4$ $SU(2)\times U(1)$ and ${\cal N}=8$ SO(6) gauged supergravities as frameworks for condensed matter applications. These theories contain charged (dilatonic) black holes and 2-forms which have non-trivial quantum numbers with respect to U(1) subgroups of SO(6). A question of interest is whether they also contain black holes with two-form hair with the required asymptotic to give rise to holographic superconductivity. We first consider the ${\cal N}=4$ case, which contains a complex two-form potential $A_{μν}$ which has U(1) charge $\pm 1$. We find that a …
We consider minimal setups arising from different truncations of N=8 five-dimensional SO(6) gauged supergravity to study phase transitions involving spontaneous breaking of any of the U(1) symmetries in U(1)xU(1)xU(1)in SO(6). These truncations only keep the three relevant vector fields, four complex scalar fields carrying U(1) charges, plus two neutral scalar fields required by consistency. By considering thermal ensembles with different fixed U(1) charge densities and solving the complete equations including the full back-reaction, in some cases we find instabilities towards the formation of…
We study four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to six vector multiplets with semisimple gauge groups $SO(4)\times SO(4)$, $SO(3,1)\times SO(3,1)$ and $SO(4)\times SO(3,1)$. All of these gauge groups are dyonically embedded in the global symmetry group $SO(6,6)$ via its maximal subgroup $SO(3,3)\times SO(3,3)$. For $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group, there are four $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$, $SO(4)\times SO(3)$, $SO(3)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetries, respectively. These $AdS_4$ vacua correspond to $N=4$ SCFTs in three dimensions with …
We establish an attractor mechanism for the horizon metric of asymptotically locally AdS4 supersymmetric black holes. The Kähler moduli of the metric are not fixed in the asymptotic region, however supersymmetry dictates that the near horizon metric must be the constant curvature one. We show how this mechanism is realized in detail for four-dimensional N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to vector multiplets by focusing on the STU model. A similar analysis is performed for gauged supergravity theories in five, six, and seven dimensions where we establish the same mechanism by extending previous r…
We study various supersymmetric RG flows of $N=3$ Chern-Simons-Matter theory in three dimensions by using four-dimensional $N=3$ gauged supergravity coupled to eight vector multiplets with $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ gauge group. The $AdS_4$ critical point preserving the full $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ provides a gravity dual of $N=3$ superconformal field theory with flavor symmetry $SU(3)$. We study the scalar potential and identify a new supersymmetric $AdS_4$ critical point preserving the full $N=3$ supersymmetry and unbroken $SO(3)\times U(1)$ symmetry. An analytic RG flow solution interpolating between …
We study five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to five vector multiplets with $SO(2)_D\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group. There are four supersymmetric $AdS_5$ vacua in the truncation to $SO(2)_{\textrm{diag}}$ invariant scalars. Two of these vacua preserve the full $N=4$ supersymmetry with $SO(2)_D\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ and $SO(2)_D\times SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}$ symmetries. These have an analogue in $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(2)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group. The other two $AdS_5$ vacua preserve only $N=2$ supersymmetry with $SO(2)_{\textrm{diag}}\times SO(3)$…
By studying the previously known holographic N=4 supersymmetric renormalization group flow(Gowdigere-Warner) in four dimensions, we find the mass deformed Chern-Simons matter theory which has N=4 supersymmetry by adding the four mass terms among eight adjoint fields. The geometric superpotential from the eleven dimensions is found and provides the M2-brane probe analysis. As second example, we consider known holographic N=8 supersymmetric renormalization group flow(Pope-Warner) in four dimensions. The eight mass terms are added and similar geometric superpotential is obtained.
We study five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to five vector multiplets with compact and non-compact gauge groups $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ and $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$. For $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ gauge group, we identify $N=4$ $AdS_5$ vacua with $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ and $U(1)\times SU(2)_{\textrm{diag}}$ symmetries and analytically construct the corresponding holographic RG flow interpolating between these critical points. The flow describes a deformation of the dual $N=2$ SCFT driven by vacuum expaction values of dimension-two operators. In addition, we study…
Small instantons can play an important role in Yang-Mills theories whose gauge couplings are sizeable at small distances. An interesting class of theories where this could occur is in weakly-gauged holographic models (dual to Yang-Mills theories interacting with strongly-coupled CFTs), since gauge couplings are indeed enhanced towards the UV boundary of the 5D AdS space. However, contrary to expectations, we show that small instantons in these non-asymptotically-free models are highly suppressed and ineffective. This is due to the conservation of topological charge that forbids instantons to b…
We study critical points of $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions coupled to three vector multiplets. Scalar fields are described by $\mathbb{R}^+\times \frac{SO(4,3)}{SO(4)\times SO(3)}$ coset space, and the gauge group is given by $SO(3)_R\times SO(3)$ with $SO(3)_R$ being the R-symmetry. The maximally supersymmetric critical point with all scalars vanishing preserves the full $SO(3)_R\times SO(3)$ symmetry. This is dual to a superconformal field theories (SCFT$_5$) arising from a near horizon geometry of the D4-D8 brane system in type I$'$ theory with an enhanced global symmetry $E_1…
We propose a simple and generic holographic $c$-function that is defined purely from geometry by using the non-affine expansion for null congruences. We examined the proposal for BPS black solutions in $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity that interpolate between two different dimensional AdS spacetimes and also for domain wall solutions. Moreover, we commented on the relation of this geometric proposal with the one from the holographic entanglement entropy.
We investigate the critical behavior of the gauged NJL model (QED plus 4-fermion interaction) and the gauged Yukawa model by use of the inversion method. By calculating the gauge-invariant chiral condensate in the inversion method to the lowest order, we derive the critical line which separates the spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking phase from the chiral symmetric one. The critical exponent for the chiral order parameter associated with the second order chiral phase transition is shown to take the mean-field value together with possible logarithmic correction to the mean-field prediction. Al…
We consider a certain ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric, $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ invariant, subsector of the $ω$-deformed family of $SO(8)$-gauged ${\cal N}=8$ four-dimensional supergravities. The theory contains two scalar fields and two pseudoscalar fields. We look for stationary points of the scalar potential, corresponding to AdS vacua in the theory. One of these, which breaks all supersymmetries but is nonetheless stable, is new. It exists only when $ω\ne 0$. We construct supersymmetric domain wall solutions in the truncated theory, and we give a detailed analysis of their holographic dual interpre…
The γ-trace anomaly of supersymmetry current in a supersymmetric gauge theory shares a superconformal anomaly multiplet with the chiral R-symmetry anomaly and the Weyl anomaly, and its holographic reproduction is a valuable test to the AdS/CFT correspondence conjecture. We investigate how the γ-trace anomaly of the supersymmetry current of {\cal N}=1 four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory in an {\cal N}=1 conformal supergravity background can be extracted out from the ${\cal N}=2$ gauged supergravity in five dimensions. It is shown that the reproduction of this super-Weyl anomaly origina…
We analyze the properties of asymptotically AdS electrically charged black brane solutions in a consistent truncation of the N=4^+, D=5 Romans' gauged supergravity which contains gravity, SU(2) and U(1) gauge fields, and a dilaton possessing a nontrivial potential approaching a constant negative value at infinity. We find that the U(1)\times U(1) solutions become unstable to forming non-Abelian hair. These configurations emerge as zero modes of the Abelian solutions at critical temperature and a critical (nonvanishing) ratio of the electric charges and can be viewed as holographic p-wave super…
We study gravity duals of the minimal $N=2$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) gauge theories in five dimensions using the matter coupled $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions. The $F(4)$ gauged supergravity coupled to $n$ vector multiplets contains $4n+1$ scalar fields, parametrized by $\mathbb{R}^+\times SO(4,n)/SO(4)\times SO(n)$ coset manifold. Maximally supersymmetric vacua of the gauged supergravity with $SU(2)\times G$ gauge group, with $G$ being an $n$-dimensional subgroup of $SO(n)$, correspond to five dimensional superconformal field theories (SCFTs) with $SU(2)_R$ R-symmetry and $G$ glob…
In this note, we construct explicit Type IIA uplifts of $D=5$ minimal gauged supergravity, by T-dualising known Type IIB uplifts on $N_5 = S^5$, $T^{1,1}$ and $Y^{p,q}$ along their $SU(2)$ isometries. When the $D=5$ gauge field is set to zero, our uplifts recover precisely the known non-Abelian T-duals of the $AdS_5\times N_5$ solutions. As an application, we obtain new supersymmetric $AdS_3\timesΣ\times M_5$ solutions in Type IIA, where $Σ= \mathbb{WCP}^1_{[n_-,n_+]}$ is a weighted projective space. Existing holographic results of T-dualised AdS solutions suggest that our solutions capture fe…
We investigate the holographic Smarr relation beyond the large N limit. By making use of the holographic dictionary, we find that the bulk correlates of sub-leading 1/N corrections to this relation are related to the couplings in Lovelock gravity theories. We likewise obtain a holographic equation of state, and check its validity for a variety of interesting and non-trivial black holes, including rotating planar black holes in Gauss-Bonnet-Born-Infeld gravity, and non-extremal rotating black holes in minimal 5d gauged supergravity. We provide an explanation of the N-dependence of the holograph…
We study viscous hydrodynamics of hot conformal field theory plasma with multiple/non-Abelian symmetries in the framework of AdS/CFT correspondence, using a recently proposed method of directly solving bulk gravity in derivative expansion of local plasma parameters. Our motivation is to better describe the real QCD plasma produced at RHIC, incorporating its U(1)^Nf flavor symmetry as well as SU(2)_I non-Abelian iso-spin symmetry. As concrete examples, we choose to study the STU model for multiple U(1)^3 symmetries, which is a sub-sector of 5D N=4 gauged SUGRA dual to N=4 Super Yang-Mills theor…
We discuss two classes of non-supersymmetric interpolating solutions in N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity, that flow from either a z=2 Lifshitz geometry or a conformal AdS background to the near-horizon geometry of a Nernst brane. We obtain these solutions by constructing a z=2 supersymmetric Lifshitz solution in the STU model from a first-order rewriting of the action, then lifting it up to a five-dimensional background and subsequently modifying this five-dimensional solution by a two-parameter family of deformations. Under reduction, these give four-dimensional non-supersymmetric Nernst brane so…
We study fully supersymmetric $AdS_6$ vacua of half-maxi\-mal $N=(1,1)$ gauged supergravity in six space-time dimensions coupled to $n$ vector multiplets. We show that the existence of $AdS_6$ backgrounds requires that the gauge group is of the form $G'\times G"\subset SO(4,n)$ where $G'\subset SO(3,m)$ and $G"\subset SO(1,n-m)$. In the $AdS_6$ vacua this gauge group is broken to its maximal compact subgroup $SO(3)\times H'\times H"$ where $H'\subset SO(m)$ and $H"\subset SO(n-m)$. Furthermore, the $SO(3)$ factor is the R-symmetry gauged by three of the four graviphotons. We further show that …
During heavy ion collisions, high temperatures and strong magnetic fields are generated. We employ the gauge-gravity duality to study the N_f=2 QCD phase diagram under these extreme conditions in the quenched approximation, in particular we use the non-antipodal Sakai-Sugimoto model (SSM). We take the different coupling of up and down flavours to the magnetic field into account geometrically, resulting in a split of the chiral phase transition according to flavour. We discuss the influence of the magnetic field on the chiral temperatures -in physical GeV units- in terms of the choice of the co…
Motivated by an analysis of the sub-superalgebras of the five-dimensional superconformal algebra $F(4)$, we search for the holographic duals to co-dimension one superconformal defects in 5d CFTs which have $SO(4,2) \oplus U(1)$ bosonic symmetry. In particular, we look for domain wall solutions to six-dimensional $F(4)$ gauged supergravity coupled to a single vector multiplet. It is found that supersymmetric domain wall solutions do not exist unless there is a non-trivial profile for one of the vector multiplet scalars which is charged under the gauged $SU(2)$ R-symmetry. This non-trivial profi…
We study $N=5$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions with compact, non-compact and non-semisimple gauge groups. The theory under consideration is of Chern-Simons type with $USp(4,k)/USp(4)\times USp(k)$ scalar manifold. We classify possible semisimple gauge groups of the $k=2,4$ cases and identify some of their critical points. A number of supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical points are found, and holographic RG flows interpolating between these critical points are also investigated. As one of our main results, we consider a non-semisimple gauge group $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$ for the theory…
The most general SU(3)-singlet space of gauged N=8 supergravity in four-dimensions is studied recently. The SU(3)-invariant six scalar fields are realized by six real four-forms. A family of holographic N=1 supersymmetric RG flows on M2-branes in three-dimensions is described. This family of flows is driven by three independent mass parameters from the N=8 SO(8) theory and is controlled by two IR fixed points, N=1 G_2-invariant one and N=2 SU(3) x U(1)-invariant one. The generic flow with arbitrary mass parameters is N=1 supersymmetric and reaches to the N=2 SU(3) x U(1) fixed point where the …
We construct the supergravity dual of the hot quark-gluon plasma in the mass-deformed ${\cal N}=4$ Super-Yang-Mills theory (also known as ${\cal N}=1^*$). The full ten-dimensional type IIB holographic dual is described by 20 functions of two variables, which we determine numerically, and it contains a black hole with $S^5$ horizon topology. As we lower the temperature to around half of the mass of the chiral multiplets, we find evidence for (most likely a first-order) phase transition, which could lead either to one of the Polchinski-Strassler confining, screening, or oblique vacua with polari…
The chiral symmetry breaking ($χ_{SB}$) is one of the most fundamental problems in QCD. In this paper, we calculate quark condensation analytically in a holographic QCD model dual to the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) system coupled to a probe scalar field. We find that the black hole phase transition in the EMD system seriously affects $χ_{SB}$. At small chemical potential, $χ_{SB}$ behaves as a crossover. For large chemical potential $μ>μ_c$, $χ_{SB}$ becomes first order with exactly the same transition temperature as the black hole phase transition by a bypass mechanism. The phase diagram w…
