Chiral magnets are an emerging class of topological matter harbouring localized and topologically protected vortex-like magnetic textures called skyrmions, which are currently under intense scrutiny as a new entity for information storage and processing. Here, on the level of micromagnetics we rigorously show that chiral magnets cannot only host skyrmions but also antiskyrmions as least-energy configurations over all non-trivial homotopy classes. We derive practical criteria for their occurrence and coexistence with skyrmions that can be fulfilled by (110)-oriented interfaces in dependence on the electronic structure. Relating the electronic structure to an atomistic spin-lattice model by means of density-functional calculations and minimizing the energy on a mesoscopic scale applying spin-relaxation methods, we propose a double layer of Fe grown on a W(110) substrate as a practical example. We conjecture that ultrathin magnetic films grown on semiconductor or heavy metal substrates with $C_{2v}$ symmetry are prototype classes of materials hosting magnetic antiskyrmions.
This paper predicts the effect of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and spin Hall effect in the spin-torque diode response of a Magnetic Tunnel Junction built over a Tantalum strip. Our results indicate that, for a microwave current large enough, the DMI can change qualitatively the resonant response by splitting the ferromagnetic resonance peak. We also find out that the two modes have a non-uniform spatial distribution.
The dynamics of magnetic skyrmion driven by spin-polarized current is theoretically studied in the chiral ferromagnetic film with spatially modulated Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Three cases including linear, sinusoidal, and periodic rectangular modulations have been considered, where the increase, decrease, and the periodic modification of the size and velocity of the skyrmion have been observed in the microscopic simulations. These phenomena are well explained by the Thiele equation, where an effective force on the skyrmion is induced by the inhomogeneous Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interact…
The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is shown to result in a canting of spins in a single molecule transistor. We predict non-linear transport signatures of this effect induced by spin-orbit coupling for the generic case of a molecular dimer. The conductance is calculated using a master equation and is found to exhibit a non-trivial dependence on the magnitude and direction of an external magnetic field. We show how three-terminal transport measurements allow for a determination of the coupling-vector characterizing the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. In particular, we show how its orienta…
The influence of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in ultra-thin ferromagnetic films and chiral magnonic crystals on the behavior of spin waves is reviewed. During the last decade, it has been shown, both theoretically and experimentally, that this anisotropic exchange interaction produces non-reciprocal features on the spin-wave spectrum of a magnetic system, a phenomenon that occurs both for bulk and interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling. More recently, the concept of a chiral magnonic crystal has been introduced, where the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is periodic. …
In this paper, boundary conditions for Landau-Lifshitz equations at the interface between two ferromagnets with different Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions are derived. We calculated and verified the analytical expression for the energy flux density continuity for the spin-wave propagation through the interface between two ferromagnets with/without Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions considering the boundary conditions mentioned. Analytical expressions for reflection, transmission coefficients and the nonreciprocity factor are calculated in the case of spin-wave propagation through a double la…
We formulate a phenomenological description of thin ferromagnetic layers with inversion asymmetry where the single-domain magnetic dynamics experiences magnon current-induced torques and leads to magnon-motive forces. We first construct a phenomenological theory based on irreversible thermodynamics, taking into account the symmetries of the system. Furthermore, we confirm that these effects originate from Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions from the analysis based on the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. Our phenomenological results generalize to a general form of Dzyaloshinskii-Mori…
Employing Brillouin spectroscopy, strong interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions have been observed in an ultrathin Pt/CoFeB film. Our micromagnetic simulations show that spin-wave nonreciprocity due to asymmetric surface pinning is insignificant for the 0.8nmthick CoFeB film studied. The observed high asymmetry of the monotonic spin wave dispersion relation is thus ascribed to strong Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions present at the Pt/CoFeB interface. Our findings should further enhance the significance of CoFeB as an important material for magnonic, spintronic and skyrmionic applicat…
The analytical model is developed for description of skyrmions and skyrmion-like magnetic structures in a two-sublattice antiferromagnet with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Relativistic contraction of skyrmion size in the direction of motion is demonstrated for subcritical case when the skyrmion velocity is less than spin wave velocity in antiferromagnet. Lorentz-like supercritical transformation are found for skyrmion-like magnetic structures moving with velocity greater than spin wave velocity in antiferromagnet.
Spin waves in antiferromagnetic materials have great potential for next-generation magnonic technologies. However, their properties and their dependence on the type of ground-state antiferromagnetic structure are still open questions. Here, we investigate theoretically spin waves in one- and two-dimensional model systems with a focus on noncollinear antiferromagnetic textures such as spin spirals and skyrmions of opposite topological charges. We address in particular the nonreciprocal spin excitations recently measured in bulk antiferromagnet $α$--$\text{Cu}_2\text{V}_2\text{O}_7$ utilizing in…
We formulate and study the general boundary conditions dictating the magnetization profile in the vicinity of an interface between magnets with dissimilar properties. Boundary twists in the vicinity of an edge due to Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions have been first discussed in [Wilson et al., Phys. Rev. B 88, 214420 (2013)] and in [Rohart and Thiaville, Phys. Rev. B 88, 184422 (2013)]. We show that in general case the boundary conditions lead to the magnetization profile corresponding to the Néel, Bloch, or intermediate twist. We explore how such twists can be utilized for creation of skyrm…
Interfacial Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction defines a rotational sense for the magnetization of two-dimensional films making it responsible for the formation of chiral magnetic structures like spin-spirals and skyrmions in those films. Here we show by means of atomistic calculations that in heterostructures magnetic layers can be additionally coupled by an interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction across a spacer. We quantify this interaction in the framework of the Levy-Fert model for trilayers consisting of two ferromagnets separated by a non-magnetic spacer yielding non-trivial three-di…
Motivated by experimental findings in [ 1 ] and [ 2 ], we find an elliptical skyrmion can be nucleated in a material with a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that supports antiskyrmions. The DMI favors the elongation of the skyrmion along a given direction so that it is characterized by two size parameters. We derive analytical properties of the elliptical skyrmion using the Belavin-Polyakov (BP) pure exchange model. We show that the DMI which typically favors isotropic skyrmions or antiskyrmions, respectively, can also support elliptical antiskyrmions or skyrmions, respectively. Using t…
We predict that a temperature gradient can induce a magnon-mediated intrinsic torque and a transverse spin current in systems with non-trivial magnon Berry curvature. With the help of a microscopic linear response theory of nonequilibrium magnon-mediated torques and spin currents we identify the interband and intraband components that manifest in ferromagnets with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and magnetic textures. To illustrate and assess the importance of such effects, we apply our theory to the magnon-mediated spin Nernst and torque responses in a kagome lattice ferromagnet.
The antiferromagnetic coupling and entanglement between skyrmion lattices are treated in magnetic bilayer systems. We first formulate the problem of large bilayer skyrmions using $\mathbb{CP}^{1}\otimes \mathbb{CP}^{1}$ theory. We have considered bilayer skyrmions under the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DMI) and Zeeman interactions confined in a two-dimensional chiral magnet such as Fe$_{0.5}$Co$_{0.5}$Si. We parametrize bilayer skyrmions using $SU(4)$ representation, and represent each skyrmion and antiskyrmion using Schmidt decomposition. The reduced density matrices for skyrmion and an…
Based on the micromagnetic simulations the magnetization switching in a triangle magnetic element by voltage-control of magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction under in-plane magnetic field is proposed. The proposed switching scheme is not the toggle switching but the deterministic switching where the magnetic state is determined by the polarity of the applied voltage pulse. The mechanism and conditions for the switching are clarified. The results provide a fast and low-power writing method for magnetoresistive random access memories.
Anisotropic exchange couplings, such as the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), have played a vital role in the formation and dynamics of spin textures. This work predicts an anisotropic conduction electron spin density in metals with heavy magnetic impurities. The polarization of this $Dzyaloshinskii$-$Moriya$ $spin$ $density$ (DM-SD) is not collinear to the localized magnetic moments but rotated by the spin-dependent skew scattering of heavy atoms. The DM-SD induces the DMI between magnetic moments in metals and, therefore, it is the anisotropic extension of the Rutherman-Kittel-Kasuya-…
We find numerically skyrmionic textures with skyrmion number Q=0 in ferromagnets with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and perpendicular anisotropy. These have the form of a skyrmion-antiskyrmion pair and may be called chiral droplets. They are stable in an infinite film as well as in disc-shaped magnetic elements. Droplets are found for values of the parameters close to the transition from the ferromagnetic to the spiral phase. We study their motion under spin-transfer torque. They move in the direction of the spin flow and, thus, their dynamics are drastically different than the Hall dy…
Determination of the energy of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction along with a definition of the basic magnetic characteristics in ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic multilayered systems are both required for the construction of a magnetic skyrmion recording medium. A method for estimating the energy of the effective Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction which compared the periodicities of micromagnetically simulated and experimentally measured demagnetized domain structures was shown in a current paper. Symmetric epitaxial [Co/Pd(111)]5 superlattices with Co layers of varying thickness were used as the sys…
We present an analytic and numerical study of the creation of an uni-directional spin-wave emission in ultra-thin ferromagnetic films sandwiched in an asymmetric layer stack. For this we extend the analytical description of spin waves in spin-wave waveguides by the incorporation of the influence of the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on the spin-wave propagation. By exploring the model system Ni$_{81}$Fe$_{19}$/Pt we show that it is possible to achieve an uni-directional spin-wave emission by combining wave-vector selective excitation sources with the frequency splitting which ar…
Magnetic skyrmions are regarded as promising information candidates in future spintronic devices, which have been investigated theoretically and experimentally in isotropic system. Recently, the sta- bilization of antiskyrmions in the presence of anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and its dynamics driven by current have been investigated. Here, we report the antiskyrmion motion with the combined action of the in-plane magnetic field and microwave electric fields. The in-plane mag- netic field breaks the rotation symmetry of the antiskyrmion, and perpendicular microwave electric fiel…
We present a physical picture for the emergence of the Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya (DM) interaction based on the idea of the Doppler shift by an intrinsic spin current induced by spin--orbit interaction under broken inversion symmetry. The picture is confirmed by a rigorous effective Hamiltonian theory, which reveals that the DM coefficient is given by the magnitude of the intrinsic spin current. The expression is directly applicable to first principles calculations and clarifies the relation between the interaction and the electronic band structures. Quantitative agreement with experimental result…
We study the effect of surface-induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) on the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectrum of thickness-modulated one-dimensional magnonic crystals and isolated stripes. The DMI is found to substantially increases the intensity of absorption peaks and shifts the frequencies of the laterally quantized modes. The role of the DMI is determined by analyzing the amplitude and phase distributions of dynamic magnetic excitations calculated with frequency- and time-domain calculation methods. We propose experimentally realizable magnonic crystals and confined structur…
In order to increase the thermal stability of a magnetic random access memory (MRAM) cell, materials with high spin-orbit interaction are often introduced in the storage layer. As a side effect, a strong Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) may arise in such systems. Here we investigate the impact of DMI on the magnetic cell performance, using micromagnetic simulations. We find that DMI strongly promotes non-uniform magnetization states and non-uniform switching modes of the magnetic layer. It appears to be detrimental for both the thermal stability of the cell and its switching current, le…
The magnetic interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in multi-layered thin films can lead to exotic chiral spin states, of paramount importance for future spintronic technologies. Interfacial DMI is normally manifested as an intralayer interaction, mediated via a paramagnetic heavy metal in systems lacking inversion symmetry. Here we show how, by designing synthetic antiferromagnets with canted magnetization states, it is also possible to observe interfacial interlayer-DMI at room temperature. The interlayer-DMI breaks the symmetry of the magnetic reversal process via the emergence…
We report on a new source of in-plane anisotropy in nanomagnets due to the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). This anisotropy depends on the shape of the magnet, and is orthogonal to the demagnetization shape anisotropy. This effect originates from the DMI energy reduction due to an out-of-plane tilt of the spins at edges oriented perpendicular to the magnetization. Our investigation combining experimental, numerical and analytical results demonstrate that this energy reduction can compensate the demagnetization shape anisotropy energy in magnets of elongated shape, provided …
We study the modification of micromagnetic configurations in nanostructures, due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that appear at the interface of an ultrathin film. We show that this interaction leads to new micromagnetic boundary conditions that bend the magnetization at the edges. We explore several cases of ultrathin film nanostructures that allow analytical calculations (1D systems, domain walls, cycloids and skyrmions), compare with fully numerical calculations, and show that a good physical understanding of this new type of micromagnetics can be reached. We particularly foc…
Using in-plane field dependence of the precessional flow of chiral domain walls (DWs) to simultaneously determine bulk and interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMIs) is proposed. It is found that effective fields of bulk and interfacial DMIs have respectively transverse and longitudinal components that affect differently the motion of chiral DWs in magnetic narrow heterostructure strips. The in-plane field dependence of DW velocity has a dome-shape or a canyon-shape, depending on whether the driving force is an in-plane current or an out-of-plane magnetic field. The responses of the…
We show how a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can be generated in an ultrathin metal film from the induced internal electric field created by an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse. This interaction does not require structural inversion-symmetry breaking, and its amplitude can be tuned depending on the amplitude of the field. We perform first-principles calculations to estimate the strength of the field-induced magnetoelectric coupling for ferromagnetic Fe, Co, and Ni, and antiferromagnetic Mn, as well as FePt alloys. Last, using atomistic simulations, we demonstrate how an isolated antiferroma…
We present an analytic study of domain-wall statics and dynamics in ferromagnetic nanotubes with spin-orbit-induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Even at the level of statics, dramatic effects arise from the interplay of space curvature and DMI: the domains become chirally twisted leading to more compact domain walls. The dynamics of these chiral structures exhibits several interesting features. Under weak applied currents, they propagate without distortion. The dynamical response is further enriched by the application of an external magnetic field: the domain wall velocity becomes …
We theoretically demonstrate that the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction (DMI) can lead to enhancement of the spin-motive force (SMF) arising due to field-induced ferromagnetic domain wall motion. A SMF refers to an electric voltage induced by dynamical magnetic textures, which reflects the temporal and spatial variations of the magnetization. A DMI can introduce extra spatial rotation of the magnetization in the domain wall region, which turns out to cause the enhancement of the SMF. We derive an expression for the SMF, and examine the field- and DMI-dependences of the SMF. We find…
In ferromagnetic thin films, broken inversion symmetry and spin-orbit coupling give rise to interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions. Analytic expressions for spin-wave properties show that the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction leads to non-reciprocal spin-wave propagation, i.e. different properties for spin waves propagating in opposite directions. In favorable situations, it can increase the spin-wave attenuation length. Comparing measured spin wave properties in ferromagnet$|$normal metal bilayers and other artificial layered structures with these calculations can provide …
Vortex states in magnetic nanodisks are essentially affected by surface/interface induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions. Within a micromagnetic approach we calculate the equilibrium sizes and shape of the vortices as functions of magnetic field, the material and geometrical parameters of nanodisks. It was found that the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling can considerably increase sizes of vortices with "right" chirality and suppress vortices with opposite chirality. This allows to form a bistable system of homochiral vortices as a basic element for storage applications.
We report the observation of a Pt layer thickness dependence on the induced interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in ultra-thin Pt($d_{\text{Pt}}$)/CoFeB films. Taking advantage of the large spin-orbit coupling of the heavy metal, the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is quantified by Brillouin light scattering measurements of the frequency non-reciprocity of spin-waves in the ferromagnet. The magnitude of the induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling is found to saturate to a value $0.45$ mJ$/$m${}^2$ for Pt thicknesses larger than $\sim 2$ nm. The experimental results are ex…
We propose a method to all-electrically control a domain-wall position in a ferromagnetic nanowire with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The strength of this interaction can be controlled by an external electric field, which in turn allows a fine tuning of the pinning potential of a spin-spiral domain wall. It allows to create more mobile pinning sites and can also be advantageous for ultra-low power electronics.
We formulate a microscopic linear response theory of nonequilibrium magnonic torques and magnon pumping applicable to multiple-magnonic-band uniform ferromagnets with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions. From the linear response theory, we identify the extrinsic and intrinsic contributions where the latter is expressed via the Berry curvature of magnonic bands. We observe that in the presence of a time-dependent magnetization Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions can act as fictitious electric fields acting on magnons. We study various current responses to this fictitious field and analyze the rol…
Magnetization measurements of a Mn12mda wheel single-molecule magnet with a spin ground state of S = 7 show resonant tunneling and quantum phase interference, which are established by studying the tunnel rates as a function of a transverse field applied along the hard magnetization axis. Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) exchange interaction allows the tunneling between different spin multiplets. It is shown that the quantum phase interference of these transitions is strongly dependent on the direction of the DM vector.
Ultrathin ferromagnets with frustrated exchange and the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can support topological solitons such as skyrmions and antiskyrmions, which are metastable and can be considered particle-antiparticle counterparts. When spin-orbit torques are applied, the motion of an isolated antiskyrmion driven beyond its Walker limit can generate skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs. Here, we use atomistic spin dynamics simulations to shed light on the scattering processes involved in this pair generation. Under certain conditions a proliferation of these particles and antiparticles can appea…
The effect of the Dzyaloshinskii Moriya interaction on the vortex in magnetic microdisk was investigated by micro magnetic simulation based on the Landau Lifshitz Gilbert equation. Our results show that the DM interaction modifies the size of the vortex core, and also induces an out of plane magnetization component at the edge and inside the disk. The DM interaction can destabilizes one vortex handedness, generate a bias field to the vortex core and couple the vortex polarity and chirality. This DM-interaction-induced coupling can therefore provide a new way to control vortex polarity and chir…
The Dzyaloshinskii Moriya Interaction (DMI) has laid the foundation for many novel chiral structures such as Skyrmions. In most of the studies so far, the DMI is present in the whole of the magnetic layer. Here, we report our investigations on a ferromagnetic nanowire where DMI is confined to a nanoscale region. We observe that the local modulation of magnetic properties causes oscillation of domain walls under the influence of spin-transfer torque. The oscillation frequency is tunable within a few GHz, making this observation potentially useful for applications in neuromorphic computing.
The longitudinal spin-Seebeck effect (SSE) in magnetic insulator$|$non-magnetic metal heterostructures has been theoretically studied primarily with the assumption of an isotropic interfacial exchange coupling. Here, we present a general theory of the SSE in the case of an antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) at the interface, in addition to the usual Heisenberg form. We numerically evaluate the dependence of the spin current on the temperature and bulk DMI using a pyrochlore iridate as a model insulator with all-in all-out (AIAO) ground state configuration. We also compare th…
The possibility of utilizing the rich spin-dependent properties of graphene has attracted great attention in pursuit of spintronics advances. The promise of high-speed and low-energy consumption devices motivates a search for layered structures that stabilize chiral spin textures such as topologically protected skyrmions. Here we demonstrate that chiral spin textures are induced at graphene/ferromagnetic metal interfaces. This is unexpected because graphene is a weak spin-orbit coupling material and is generally not expected to induce sufficient Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction to affect magn…
A stable skyrmion, representing the smallest realizable magnetic texture, could be an ideal element for ultra-dense magnetic memories. Here, we review recent progress in the field of skyrmionics, which is concerned with studies of tiny whirls of magnetic configurations for novel memory and logic applications, with a particular emphasis on antiskyrmions. Magnetic antiskyrmions represent analogs of skyrmions with opposite topological charge. Just like skyrmions, antiskyrmions can be stabilized by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, as has been demonstrated in a recent experiment. Here, we emp…
Synthetic antiferromagnet (SAF) nanostructures with interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can host topologically distinct spin textures such as skyrmions and thus are regarded as promising candidates for both spintronics and magnonics applications. Here, we present comprehensive micromagnetic simulations of such material systems and discuss the rich phase diagrams that contain various types of magnetic configurations. Aside from the static properties, we further discuss the resonant excitations of the calculated magnetic states which include individual skyrmions and skyrmioniums. Final…
Skyrmions and antiskyrmions in magnetic ultrathin films are characterised by a topological charge describing how the spins wind around their core. This topology governs their response to forces in the rigid core limit. However, when internal core excitations are relevant, the dynamics become far richer. We show that current-induced spin-orbit torques can lead to phenomena such as trochoidal motion and skyrmion-antiskyrmion pair generation that only occurs for either the skyrmion or antiskyrmion, depending on the symmetry of the underlying Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Such dynamics are in…
We present a general approach for studying the dynamics of domain walls in biaxial ferromagnetic stripes with functionally graded Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). By engineering the spatial profile of the DMI parameter we propose the concept of a diode, which implements filtering of domain walls of certain topological charge and helicity. We base our study on phenomenological Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equations with additional Zhang-Li spin-transfer terms using a collective variable approach. In the effective equations of motion the gradients of DMI play the role of a driving force which…
Ultrathin metallic ferromagnets on substrates with strong spin-orbit coupling can exhibit induced chiral interactions of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) form. For systems with perpendicular anisotropy, the presence of DM interactions has important consequences for current-driven domain-wall motion and underpins possible spintronic applications involving skyrmions. We show theoretically how spin textures driven by the DM interaction allow nonreciprocal channeling of spin waves, leading to measurable features in magnetic wires, dots, and domain walls. Our results provide methods for detecting ind…

The antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in noncentrosymmetric systems leads to various nonuniform chiral magnetic textures. Polarized neutron scattering is a powerful method for investigation such chiral distributions. The most used technique is a small-angle neutrons scattering (SANS). Multilayered magnetic films with the interface induced DMI (iDMI) can't be investigated by SANS because of their small volume. The appropriate technique is a polarized neutron reflectometry. Within the framework of the continuum theory of micromagnetics, we explore the impact of the iDMI on th…
We have studied the domain wall resistance in W/Ta/CoFeB/MgO heterostructures. The Ta layer thickness is varied to control the type of domain walls via changes in the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii Moriya interaction. We find a nearly constant domain wall resistance against the Ta layer thickness. Adding contributions from the anisotropic magnetoresistance, spin Hall magnetoresistance and anomalous Hall effect describe well the domain wall resistance of the thick Ta layer films. However, a discrepancy remains for the thin Ta layer films wherein chiral Néel-like domain walls are found. These result…
We study the effect of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) on current-induced magnetic switching of a perpendicularly magnetized heavy-metal/ferromagnet/oxide trilayer both experimentally and through micromagnetic simulations. We report the generation of stable helical magnetization stripes for a sufficiently large DMI strength in the switching region, giving rise to intermediate states in the magnetization confirming the essential role of the DMI on switching processes. We compare the simulation and experimental results to a macrospin model, showing the need for a micromagnetic approa…
Multilayers of heavy metals and ferromagnets are the basis for the formation of various structures with inhomogeneous chiral magnetic distributions. The most informative method for studying magnetic states in such structures with a high spatial resolution is Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (L-TEM). Here, we report on the observation of chiral Néel domain walls by means of L-TEM in Co/Pt multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. We explain the existence of chiral Néel internal structure due to the overcritical, giant interfacial induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Our …
We theoretically study the effect of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) on the focusing of a spin-wave lens that is constructed by a circular interface between two magnetic films. We analytically derive the generalized Snell's law in the curved geometry and the position of the focal point which exhibits a peculiar off-axial focusing behavior. We uncover a strong dependence of the focal point on both the material parameters and the frequency of incident spin waves. Full micromagnetic simulations compare well with theoretical predictions. Our findings would be helpful to manipulate spin wav…
