Scalable, Trie-based Approximate Entity Extraction for Real-Time Financial Transaction Screening

Financial institutions have to screen their transactions to ensure that they are not affiliated with terrorism entities. Developing appropriate solutions to detect such affiliations precisely while avoiding any kind of interruption to large amount of legitimate transactions is essential. In this paper, we present building blocks of a scalable solution that may help financial institutions to build their own software to extract terrorism entities out of both structured and unstructured financial messages in real time and with approximate similarity matching approach.

Building and displaying name relations using automatic unsupervised analysis of newspaper articles

We present a tool that, from automatically recognised names, tries to infer inter-person relations in order to present associated people on maps. Based on an in-house Named Entity Recognition tool, applied on clusters of an average of 15,000 news articles per day, in 15 different languages, we build a knowledge base that allows extracting statistical co-occurrences of persons and visualising them on a per-person page or in various graphs.

Capitalization is an important feature in many NLP tasks such as Named Entity Recognition (NER) or Part of Speech Tagging (POS). We are trying to reproduce results of paper which shows how to mitigate a significant performance drop when casing is mismatched between training and testing data.
