Background: Large $α$ yields have been reported over the years in reactions with $^{6}$Li and $^{7}$Li projectiles. Previous theoretical analyses have shown that the elastic breakup (EBU) mechanism (i.e., projectile breakup leaving the target in its ground state) is able to account only for a small fraction of the total $α$ inclusive breakup cross sections, pointing toward the dominance of non-elastic breakup (NEB) mechanisms.
Purpose: We aim to provide a systematic study of the $α$ inclusive cross sections observed in nuclear reactions induced by $^{6}$Li projectiles. In addition to estimating the total $α$ singles cross sections, it is our goal to evaluate angular and energy distributions of these $α$ particles and compare with experimental data, when available.
Method: We compute separately the EBU and NEB components of the inclusive breakup cross sections. For the former, we use the continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method, which treats this mechanism to all orders. For the NEB part, we employ the the model proposed in the eighties by Ichimura, Austern and Vincent [Phys. Rev. C32, 432 (1982)], within the DWBA approximation.
Results: Overall, the sum of the computed EBU and NEB cross sections is found to reproduce very well the measured singles cross sections. In all cases analyzed, we find that the inclusive breakup cross section is largely dominated by the NEB component.
Conclusions: The presented method provides a global and systematic description of inclusive breakup reactions induced by $^{6}$Li projectiles. It provides also a natural explanation of the previously observed underestimation of the measured $α$ yields by CDCC calculations. The method used here can be extended to other weakly-bound projectiles, including halo nuclei.
A recent analysis of experimental ternary fission fragment yields using a nucleation moderated statistical equilibrium model reproduced observed yields with fairly good accuracy. In the present work, the same approach is applied to neck emission in peripheral and mid-peripheral 124Sn+112,124Sn collisions at 26A MeV. The model can reasonably reproduce the yields of lithium to silicon isotopes with realistic time and temperature values. A comparison is made between equilibrium constants derived from the present data and those previously obtained for ternary fission of 242Pu.
The thick-target yield (TTY) is a macroscopic quantity reflected by nuclear reactions and matter properties of targets. In order to evaluate TTYs on radioactive targets, we suggest a conversion method from inverse kinematics corresponding to the reaction of radioactive beams on stable targets. The method to deduce the TTY is theoretically derived from inverse kinematics. We apply the method to the natCu(12C,X)24Na reaction to confirm availability. In addition, it is applied to the 137Cs + 12C reaction as an example of a radioactive system and discussed a conversion coefficient of a TTY measure…
\item[Background] The isobaric yield ratio difference (IBD) method is found to be sensitive to the density difference of neutron-rich nucleus induced reaction around the Fermi energy. \item[Purpose] An investigation is performed to study the IBD results in the transport model. \item[Methods] The antisymmetric molecular dynamics (AMD) model plus the sequential decay model GEMINI are adopted to simulate the 140$A$ MeV $^{58, 64}$Ni + $^{9}$Be reactions. A relative small coalescence radius R$_c =$ 2.5 fm is used for the phase space at $t =$ 500 fm/c to form the hot fragment. Two limitations on th…
The isobaric yield ratios of the fragments produced in the neutron-rich 48Ca and 64Ni projectile fragmentation are analyzed in the framework of a modified Fisher model. The correlations between the isobaric yield ratios (R) and the energy coefficients in the Weiszäcker-Beth semiclassical mass formula (the symmetry-energy term asym, the Coulomb-energy term ac, and the pairing-energy term ap) and the difference between the chemical potentials of the neutron and proton (μn-μp) are investigated. Simple correlations between (μn-μp)/T, ac/T, asym/T, and ap/T (where T is the temperature), and lnR are…
This work focuses on the study of temperature associated with the final heavy fragments in reactions induced by both the neutron-proton symmetric and the neutron-rich projectiles, and with incident energy ranges from 60$A$ MeV to 1$A$ GeV. Isobaric yield ratio (IYR) is used to determine the temperature of heavy fragments. Cross sections of measured fragment in reactions are analyzed, and a modified statistical abrasion-ablation (SAA) model is used to calculate the yield of fragment in 140$A$ MeV $^{64}$Ni + $^{9}$Be and 1$A$ GeV $^{136}$Xe + $^{208}$Pb reactions. Relatively low $T$ of heavy fr…
\item[Background] Temperature is an important parameter in studying many important questions in heavy-ion collisions. A thermometer based on the isobaric yield ratio (IYR) has been proposed [Ma \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{86}, 054611 (2012) and Ma \textit{et al.}, \textit{ibid.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{88}, 014609 (2013)]. \item[Purpose] An improved thermometer ($T_{IB}$) is proposed based on the difference between IYRs. $T_{IB}$ obtained from isobars in different reactions will be compared. \item[Methods] The yields of three isobars are employed in $T_{IB}$. The residual free energy o…
The yields of evaporation residues, fusion-fission and quasifission fragments in the $^{48}$Ca+$^{144,154}$Sm and $^{16}$O+$^{186}$W reactions are analyzed in the framework of the combined theoretical method based on the dinuclear system concept and advanced statistical model. The measured yields of evaporation residues for the $^{48}$Ca+$^{154}$Sm reaction can be well reproduced. The measured yields of fission fragments are decomposed into contributions coming from fusion-fission, quasifission, and fast-fission. The decrease in the measured yield of quasifission fragments in $^{48}$Ca+$^{154}…
The theoretical predictions of the primordial abundances of elements in the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) are dominated by uncertainties in the input nuclear reaction rates. We investigate the effect of modifying these reaction rates on light element abundance yields in BBN by replacing the thirty-five reaction rates out of the existing eighty-eight. We have studied these yields as functions of evolution time or temperature. We find that using these new reaction rates results in only a little increase in helium mass fraction over that obtained previously in BBN calculations. This allows insig…
The evaporation residue yields from compound nuclei $^{220}$Th formed in the $^{16}$O+$^{204}$Pb, $^{40}$Ar+$^{180}$Hf, $^{82}$Se+$^{138}$Ba, $^{124}$Sn+$^{96}$Zr reactions are analyzed to study the entrance channel effects by comparison of the capture, fusion and evaporation residue cross sections calculated by the combined dinuclear system (DNS) and advanced statistical models. The difference between evaporation residue (ER) cross sections can be related to the stages of compound nucleus formation or/and at its surviving against fission. The sensitivity of the both stages in the evolution of…
We consider the role of rescattering of secondary kaons on the dilepton branching ratio of the phi meson. In-medium mass modifications and broadening of kaons and phi mesons are taken into account. We find in the framework of a Bjorken scenario for the time evolution of the expanding fireball that the phi yield from dimuons is moderately or at least only slightly enhanced compared to that from kaon-antikaon pairs. The relation to experimental yields measured by the NA49, NA50 and CERES Collaborations at CERN SPS and the PHENIX Collaboration at RHIC is discussed.
We develop a new hadronic model for GEANT4 that is specialized for the disintegration of the deuteron by photons, $dγ\to n p$. For the description of two-nucleon interactions, we employ a pionless effective field theory with dibaryon fields (dEFT). We apply the new model of GEANT4 (G4dEFT) to the calculations of the total and the differential cross sections in $dγ\to n p$ and compare the results with empirical data. As an application of the new model, we calculate the neutron yield from the $γ+ {\rm CD}_2$ process. G4dEFT predicts peaks for the neutron yield, but the existing model of GEANT4 d…

Isotopic effects observed in fragmentation reactions induced by protons, deuterons, and alpha particles of incident energies between 660 MeV and 15.3 GeV on 112-Sn and 124-Sn targets are discussed. The exponential scaling of the yield ratios with the third component of the fragment isospin (N-Z)/2 is observed in all reactions, with scaling parameters that depend on the incident energy. Breakup temperatures for these reactions are deduced from double ratios of isotopic yields and tested for their relation with the isoscaling parameters. The quantum statistical (QSM) and the statistical multifra…
We address the stopping in heavy-ion induced reactions around the Fermi energy using central collisions recorded with \emph{INDRA} $4π$ array. The stopping is minimal around the Fermi energy and corresponds to the disappearance of the Mean-Field effects and the appearance of nucleon-nucleon elastic collisions. This phenomenon is attributed to a change in the dissipation regime going from 1-body (Mean-Field) dissipation at low incident energy to 2- body (nucleonic collisions) above the Fermi energy. A connection to the in-medium transport properties of nuclear matter is proposed and comprehensi…
We have used effective reaction rates (ERR) for the helium burning reactions to predict the yield of the gamma-emitting nuclei 26Al, 44Ti, and 60Fe in core col- lapse supernovae. The variations in the predicted yields for values of the reaction rates allowed by the ERR are much smaller than obtained previously, and smaller than other uncertainties. A "filter" for supernova nucleosynthesis yields based on pre-supernova structure was used to estimate the effect of failed supernovae on the initial mass function-averaged yields; this substantially reduced the yields of all these isotopes, but the …
A qualitative and quantitative comparison of the recent GSI measurements of the nuclide yields from 208Pb and 238U at 1 GeV/nucleon and 197Au at 800 MeV/nucleon interactions with protons with the codes LAHET (with both ISABEL and Bertini options), CEM95, CEM97, CEM2k, CASCADE, CASCADE/INPE, YIELDX, HETC, and INUCL is presented. The predictive power of these codes is reasonable for nuclides in the near spallation region but is worse for deep spallation and much worse in the fission region. None of these codes agree well with the data in the whole mass region of product nuclides and all must be …
We present in detail a theoretical model for fragmentation reactions of three--body halo nuclei. The different reaction mechanisms corresponding to the different processes are described and discussed. Coulomb and nuclear interactions are simultaneously included and the method is therefore applicable for any target, light, intermediate and heavy. Absolute values of many differential cross sections are then available as function of beam energy and target. We apply the method to fragmentation of $^6$He and $^{11}$Li on C, Cu and Pb. A large variety of observables, cross sections and momentum dist…
The paper by Belyaev et al. [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 72}, 026406 (2005)] reported the first experimental observation of alpha particles produced in the thermonuclear reaction $^{11}$B($p,α$)$^{8}$Be induced by laser-irradiation on a $^{11}$B polyethylene (CH$_2$) composite target. The laser used in the experiment is characterized by a picosecond pulse duration and a peak of intensity of 2$\times10^{18}$ W/cm$^2$. We suggest that both the background-reduction method adopted in their detection system and the choice of the detection energy region of the reaction products are possibly inadequate. Conseq…
We analyze in details the standard Primordial Nucleosynthesis scenario. In particular we discuss the key theoretical issues which are involved in a detailed prediction of light nuclide abundances, as the weak reaction rates, neutrino decoupling and nuclear rate modeling. We also perform a new analysis of available data on the main nuclear processes entering the nucleosynthesis reaction network, with particular stress on their uncertainties as well as on their role in determining the corresponding uncertainties on light nuclide theoretical estimates. The current status of theoretical versus exp…
Assuming a binary reaction mechanism, the yield of isotopes near the heaviest $N=Z$ neutron-deficit nucleus $^{100}$Sn is studied with a microscopic transport model. The large influence of nuclear shell structure and isotope composition of the colliding nuclei on the production of exotic nuclei is demonstrated. It is shown that the reaction $^{54}$Fe+$^{106}$Cd seems to be most favourable for producing primary exotic Sn isotopes which may survive if the excitation energy in the entrance reaction channel is less than about 100 MeV. In the case of large differences in the charge (mass) numbers b…
We report the first measurement of the $^{10}{\rm B}(α,n)^{13}{\rm N}$ reaction in a polar-direct-drive exploding pusher (PDXP) at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). This work is motivated by the need to develop alternative mix diagnostics, radiochemistry being the focus here. The target is composed of a $65/35\,\rm at.\,\%$ deuterium-tritium (DT) fill surrounded by a roughly $30\,μ\rm m$ thick beryllium ablator. The inner portion of the beryllium ablator is doped with $10\,\rm at.\,\%$ of $^{10}{\rm B}$. Radiation-hydrodynamics calculations were performed in 1D to optimize both the remaini…
For central collisions of $^{40}$Ca $+ ^{40}$Ca at 35 MeV/nucleon, the density and temperature of a fragmenting source have been evaluated in a self-consistent manner using the ratio of the symmetry energy coefficient relative to the temperature, $a_{sym}/T$, extracted from the yields of primary isotopes produced in antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) simulations. The $a_{sym}/T$ values are extracted from all isotope yields using an improved method based on the Modified Fisher Model (MFM). The values of $a_{sym}/T$ obtained, using different interactions with different density dependencies…
We explore the sensitivity of the nucleosynthesis due to type Ia supernovae with respect to uncertainties in nuclear reaction rates. We have adopted a standard one-dimensional delayed detonation model of the explosion of a Chandrasekhar-mass white dwarf, and have post-processed the thermodynamic trajectories of every mass-shell with a nucleosynthetic code, with increases (decreases) by a factor of ten on the rates of 1196 nuclear reactions. We have computed as well hydrodynamic models for different rates of the fusion reactions of 12C and of 16O. For selected reactions, we have recomputed the …
The Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport approach is used to calculate $Δ$(1232) yields in Ca+Ca, Ni+Ni and Au+Au collisions between 1 AGeV and 2 AGeV. We compare and validate two different methods to extract the yields of $Δ$(1232) resonances in such low energy nuclear collisions: Firstly, the $π^-$ spectra at low $p_\mathrm{T}$ are used to infer the $Δ$(1232) yield in A+A collisions, a method employed by the GSI/FOPI experiment. Secondly, we employ the invariant mass method used by the HADES collaboration, which has recently reported data in the $Δ^{++}\rightarrowπ…
The excitation functions of capture, complete fusion, and evaporation residue formation in the $^{16}$O+$^{184}$W and $^{19}$F+$^{181}$Ta reactions leading to the same $^{200}$Pb compound nucleus has been studied theoretically to explain the experimental data showing more intense yield of evaporation residue in the former reaction in comparison with that in the latter reaction. The observed difference is explained by large capture cross section in the former and by increase of the quasifission contribution to the yield of fission-like fragments in the $^{19}$F+$^{181}$Ta reaction at large exci…
Comprehensive calculations of cross sections of photon induced reactions on $^{233-238}$U targets for incident photon energies from 3 up to 30 MeV are undertaken with the statistical model code EMPIRE-3.2 Malta. Results are compared with the experimental data from EXFOR and with the current evaluations. The differences and the similarities between the models and parameters used in calculations of photon- and neutron-induced reactions on the same nuclei are discussed with focus on fission. The role of the extended optical model for fission in improving the description of the measured data and i…
We discuss the new data for the production of the $ψ'$ meson in pA collisions at 450 GeV at CERN-SPS (of the NA50-collaboration) [1]. We extract from the CERN data $σ(ψ' N)\approx 8$ mb under the assumption that the $ψ'$ is produced as a result of the space-time evolution of a point-like $c\bar c$ pair which expands with time to the full size of the charmonium state. In the analysis we assume the existence of a relationship between the distribution of color in a hadron and the cross section of its interaction with a nucleon. However, our result is rather sensitive to the pattern of the expansi…
We present our recent efforts to determine the matrix elements associated with the transition between the nucleon and a nucleon resonance induced by the vector current, which are necessary ingredients for models of neutrino-induced reactions in the resonance region. This is accomplished by making the comprehensive analysis of the data for various meson photo- and electro-production reactions off the nucleon within a sophisticated coupled-channels framework, which is known as the ANL-Osaka dynamical coupled-channels model. We also give a brief introduction to our project for constructing a unif…
Consideration of memory of spin and parity in the fissioning compound nucleus by applying the Hauser-Feshbach fission fragment decay model to photonuclear reactions
As a first step toward developing a reaction model that enables a comprehensive description of neutrino-nucleon reactions in the nucleon resonance region, we have applied for the first time a dynamical coupled-channels model, which successfully describes πN, γN --> πN, ηN, ππN, KΛ, KΣreactions up to W = 2 GeV, to predict the neutrino-induced meson-production reactions with ΔS = 0 at the forward angle limit. This has been achieved by relating the divergence of the axial-current matrix elements at Q^2 = 0 to the πN --> X reaction amplitudes through the PCAC hypothesis. We present the contributio…
The mechanism leading to the formation of the observed products of the collinear cluster tripartition is carried out within the framework of the model based on the dinuclear system concept. The yield of fission products is calculated using the statistical model based on the driving potentials for the fissionable system. The minima of potential energy of the decaying system correspond to the charge numbers of the products which are produced with large probabilities in the sequential fission (partial case of the collinear cluster tripartition) of the compound nucleus. The realization of this mec…
