We study the $P-V$ criticality and phase transition in the extended phase space of anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes in higher-dimensional de Rham, Gabadadze and Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity, treating the cosmological constant as pressure and the corresponding conjugate quantity is interpreted as thermodynamic volume. Besides the usual small/large black hole phase transitions, the interesting thermodynamic phenomena of reentrant phase transitions (RPTs) are observed for black holes in all $d\geq6$-dimensional spacetime when the coupling coefficients $c_i m^2$ of massive potential satisfy some certain conditions.
The tunneling behavior of fermions with half-integral spin from a higher dimensional charged anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole in de Rham, Gabadadze and Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity is investigated via a modified Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The results demonstrate that the modified thermodynamic quantities not only are related to the properties of the higher dimensional charged AdS black hole in dRGT massive gravity but also depend on the parameter $β$, the coupling constant $σ$ and the mass of emitted particles $m$. In addition, the modified Hawking temperature is higher than the original temper…
We explore the quasi-stationary profile of massive charged scalar field in a class of charged black hole in dRGT massive gravity. We discuss how the linear term in the metric which is a unique character of the dRGT massive gravity affects structure of the spacetime. Numerical calculations of the quasinormal modes are performed for the charged scalar field in the dRGT black hole background. For asymptotically de Sitter (dS) black hole, an improved asymptotic iteration method is used to obtain the associated quasinormal frequencies. The unstable modes are found for $\ell=0$ case and their corres…
We study the thermodynamics of higher-dimensional singly spinning asymptotically AdS black holes in the canonical (fixed J) ensemble of extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is treated as pressure and the corresponding conjugate quantity is interpreted as thermodynamic volume. Along with the usual small/large black hole phase transition, we find a new phenomenon of reentrant phase transitions for all d>5 dimensions, in which a monotonic variation of the temperature yields two phase transitions from large to small and back to large black holes. This situation is similar to that …
One of the solutions of Einstein field equation with cylindrical symmetry is known as black string solution. In this work, the rotating black string solution in dRGT massive gravity is obtained and then called rotating-dRGT black string solution. This solution is a kind of generalized version of rotating AdS/dS black sting solution containing an additional two more terms characterizing the structure of graviton mass. The horizon structures of the black string are explored. The thermodynamical properties of the black string are investigated. We found that it is possible to obtain the Hawking-Pa…
The recent Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations of the M87* have led to a surge of interest in studying the shadow of black holes. Besides, investigation of time evolution and lifetime of black holes helps us to veto/restrict some theoretical models in gravitating systems. Motivated by such exciting properties, we study optical features of black holes, such as the shadow geometrical shape and the energy emission rate in modified gravity. We consider a charged AdS black hole in dRGT massive gravity and look for criteria to restrict the free parameters of the theory. The main goal of this …

In this paper, we extend the study of the relationship between the photon sphere and the thermodynamic phase transition, especially the reentrant phase transition, to this black hole background. According to the number of the thermodynamic critical points, the black hole systems are divided into four cases with different values of Born-Infeld parameter b, where the black hole systems can have no phase transition, reentrant phase transition, or Van der Waals-like phase transition. For these different cases, we obtain the corresponding phase structures in pressure-temperature diagram and tempera…
Born-Infeld AdS black hole exhibits a reentrant phase transition for certain values of the Born-Infeld parameter $b$. This behaviour is an additional feature compared to the van der Waals like phase transition observed in charged AdS black holes. Therefore, it is worth observing the underlying microscopic origin of this reentrant phase transition. Depending on the value of the parameter $b$, the black hole system has four different cases: no phase transition, a reentrant phase transition with two scenarios, or a van der Waals-like (standard) phase transition. In this article, by employing a no…
We study the extended phase space thermodynamics for hairy AdS black hole solutions to Einstein-Maxwell-$Λ$ theory conformally coupled to a scalar field in five dimensions. We find these solutions to exhibit van der Waals behaviour in both the charged/uncharged cases, and reentrant phase transitions in the charged case. This is the first example of reentrant phase transitions in a five dimensional gravitational system which does not include higher curvature corrections.

In the extended phase space, the $d$-dimensional singly spinning Kerr-AdS black holes exhibit the van der Waals's phase transition and reentrant phase transition. Since the black hole system is a single characteristic parameter thermodynamic system, we show that the form of the critical point can be uniquely determined by the dimensional analysis. When $d=4$, we get the analytical critical point. The coexistence curve and phase diagrams are obtained. The result shows that the fitting form of the coexistence curve in the reduced parameter space is independent of the angular momentum. When $d=5$…

We investigate the effects of higher curvature corrections from Lovelock gravity on the phase structure of asymptotically AdS black holes, treating the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure. We examine how various thermodynamic phenomena, such as Van der Waals behaviour, reentrant phase transitions (RPT), and tricritical points are manifest for U(1) charged black holes in Gauss-Bonnet and 3rd-order Lovelock gravities. We furthermore observe a new phenomenon of "multiple RPT" behaviour, in which for fixed pressure the small/large/small/large black hole phase transition occurs as the…
We investigate thermodynamic phase structure and critical behaviour of Born-Infeld (BI) black holes in an anti-de Sitter (AdS) space, where the charge of the system can vary and the cosmological constant (pressure) is fixed. We find that the BI parameter crucially affects the temperature of the black hole when the horizon radius, $r_{+}$, is small. We observe that depending on the value of the nonlinear parameter, $β$, BI-AdS black hole may be identified as RN black hole for $Q\geq Q_{m}$, and Schwarzschild-like black hole for $Q<Q_{m}$, where $Q_{m}=1/\left(8πβ\right) $ is the \textit{margina…
We investigate the thermodynamic behaviour of AdS quasitopological black hole solutions in the context of extended thermodynamic phase space, in which the cosmological constant induces a pressure with a conjugate volume. We find that the third order exact quasitopological solution exhibits features consistent with the third order Lovelock solutions for positive quasitopological coupling, including multiple reentrant phase transitions and isolated critical points. For negative coupling we find the first instances of both reentrant phase transitions and thermodynamic singularities in five dimens…
In this paper we propose a straightforward method for understanding the thermodynamics of black holes in de Sitter space, one that will allow us to study these black holes in a way that is analogous to the anti-de Sitter case. As per usual, we formulate separate thermodynamic first laws for each horizon present in the spacetime, and study their thermodynamics as if they were independent systems characterized by their own temperature. That these systems are not entirely independent and various thermodynamic quantities in them are in fact "correlated" is reflected by the fact that their thermody…
We consider the critical behaviors and phase transitions of Gauss Bonnet-Born Infeld-AdS black holes (GB-BI-AdS) for $d=5,6$ and the extended phase space. We assume the cosmological constant, $Λ$, the coupling coefficient $α$, and the BI parameter $β$ to be thermodynamic pressures of the system. Having made these assumptions, the critical behaviors are then studied in the two canonical and grand canonical ensembles. We find "reentrant and triple point phase transitions" (RPT-TP) and "multiple reentrant phase transitions" (multiple RPT) with increasing pressure of the system for specific values…
Taking the quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect into account, we study the black hole phase transition and Ruppeiner geometry for the Euler-Heisenberg anti-de Sitter black hole in the extended phase space. For negative and small positive QED parameter, we observe a small/large black hole phase transition and reentrant phase transition, respectively. While a large positive value of the QED parameter ruins the phase transition. The phase diagrams for each case are explicitly exhibited. Then we construct the Ruppeiner geometry in the thermodynamic parameter space. Different features of the corres…
The phase transition and thermodynamic geometry of a 4-dimensional AdS topological charged black hole in de Rham, Gabadadze and Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity have been studied. After introducing a normalized thermodynamic scalar curvature, it is speculated that its value is related to the interaction between the underlying black hole molecules if the black hole molecules exist. We show that there does exist a crucial parameter given in terms of the topology, charge, and massive parameters of the black hole, which characterizes the thermodynamic properties of the black hole. It is found that wh…
We study the thermodynamics of $D$-dimensional Born-Infeld AdS black holes in the extended phase space. We find that the usual small-large black hole phase transition, which exhibits analogy with the Van de Waals liquid-gas system holds in all dimensions greater than three. However, different from the four-dimensional case, in the system of higher dimensional Born-Infeld AdS black holes there is no reentrant phase transition. For the three-dimensional Born-Infeld AS black hole, there does not exist critical phenomena.
We investigate the effect of massive graviton on the holographic thermalization process. Before doing this, we first find out the generalized Vaidya-AdS solutions in the de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity by directly solving the gravitational equations. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these Vaidya-AdS solutions by using the Minsner-Sharp energy and unified first law, which also shows that the massive gravity is in a thermodynamic equilibrium state. Moreover, we adopt the two-point correlation function at equal time to explore the thermalization process in the dual field theor…
In this paper we study AdS-Schwarzschild black holes in four and five dimensions in dRGT minimally coupled to a cloud of strings and investigate the effects of this string cloud on the thermodynamics of the black holes. It is observed that the entropy of the string cloud and massive terms does not affect the black hole entropy. The observations about four dimensions indicate that the massive term in the presence of external string cloud can not exhibit Van der Waals like behavior for AdS-Schwarzschild black holes and therefore there is only the Hawking-Page phase transition. In contrast, in fi…
The $P$-$V$ phase transition and critical behavior in the extended phase space of asymptotic Anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes have been widely investigated, in which four critical exponents around critical point are found to be consistent with values in the mean field theory. Recently, another critical exponent $ν$ related to divergent correlation length at critical point is proposed by using thermodynamic curvature scalar $R_N$ in the charged AdS black hole. In this paper, we develop a method to investigate the divergent behavior of $R_N$ at critical point, and find that the divergent behavio…
In this review we summarize, expand, and set in context recent developments on the thermodynamics of black holes in extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is interpreted as thermodynamic pressure and treated as a thermodynamic variable in its own right. We specifically consider the thermodynamics of higher-dimensional rotating asymptotically flat and AdS black holes and black rings in a canonical (fixed angular momentum) ensemble. We plot the associated thermodynamic potential-the Gibbs free energy-and study its behaviour to uncover possible thermodynamic phase transitions in th…
In the context of Black Hole Chemistry (BHC), holographic phase transitions of asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) charged topological black holes (TBHs) in massive gravity coupled to Power Maxwell Invariant (PMI) electrodynamics are discussed in the grand canonical (fixed $U(1)$ potential, $Φ$) ensemble. Considering all higher-order graviton's self-interactions of (dRGT) massive gravitational field theory in arbitrary dimensions, exact TBH solutions are derived, the explicit form of the on-shell action is computed, and the associated thermodynamic quantities in the Grand Canonical Ensemble (G…
We examine analytical, intrinsically non-Abelian, black holes with SU(2) Yang-Mills matter content. Working in the extended thermodynamics scenario of Lovelock black holes we study the phase structure of a four and a five-dimensional spherically symmetric configuration. We work in Gauss-Bonnet-Einstein-Yang-Mills gravity with negative cosmological constant and use Euclidean methods to explore the thermodynamics of the systems. We observe that the solutions belong to the expected universality class of van der Waals and find a reentrant phase transition.
We analyze certain aspects of BTZ black holes in massive theory of gravity. The black hole solution is obtained by using the Vainshtein and dRGT mechanism, which is asymptotically AdS with an electric charge. We study the Hawking radiation using the tunneling formalism as well as analyze the black hole chemistry for such system. Subsequently, we use the thermodynamic pressure-volume diagram to explore the efficiency of the Carnot heat engine for this system. Some of the important features arising from our solution include the non-existence of quantum effects, critical Van der Walls behaviour, …
We study the thermodynamic behavior of multi-spinning d=6 Kerr-anti de Sitter black holes in the canonical ensemble of fixed angular momenta J1 and J2. We find, dependent on the ratio q=J2/J1, qualitatively different interesting phenomena known from the `every day thermodynamics' of simple substances. For q=0 the system exhibits recently observed reentrant large/small/large black hole phase transitions, but for 0<q<<1 we find an analogue of a `solid/liquid' phase transition. Furthermore, for 0.00905<q<0.0985 the system displays the presence of a large/intermediate/small black hole phase transi…
We investigate the thermodynamic behavior of nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED) black holes in an extended phase space, which includes the cosmological constant $Λ=-3/l^{2}$ and dimensionful couplings $a$ in NLED as thermodynamic variables. For a generic NLED black hole with the charge $Q$, we find that the Smarr relation is satisfied in the extended phase space, and the state of equation can be written as $Tl=\tilde{T}\left( r_{+}/l,Q/l,al^{-c} \right) $, where $\left[ a\right] =L^{c}$, and $T$ and $r_{+}$ are the temperature and horizon radius of the black hole, respectively. For some values o…
We study the Hawking evaporation of a class of black hole solutions in dRGT massive gravity, in which the graviton mass gives rise to an effective negative cosmological constant. We found that the effective emission surface can be either proportional to the square of the effective AdS length scale, or corresponds to the square of the impact parameter of the null geodesic that falls onto the photon orbit of the black hole. Furthermore, depending on the black hole parameters, the emission surface could switch from one to another as the black hole loses mass during the evaporation process. Furthe…
Considering de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley theory of massive gravity coupled with (ghost free) higher curvature terms arisen from the Lovelock Lagrangian, we obtain charged AdS black hole solutions in diverse dimensions. We compute thermodynamic quantities in the extended phase space by considering the variations of the negative cosmological constant, Lovelock coefficients ($α_{i}$) and massive couplings ($c_{i}$), and prove that such variations is necessary for satisfying the extended first law of thermodynamics as well as associated Smarr formula. In addition, by performing a comprehensive thermal…
In this paper, a new family of Hawking-Page (HP) transition, the HP transition with reentrance and triple point is introduced for the first time, by investigating HP transition of hyperbolic AdS black hole in extended thermodynamics of general dimensional Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The Reentrant HP transition is composed of two HP transitions with a large and a small HP temperature, and the triple point corresponds to small black holes/massless black holes/large black holes (SBHs/MBHs/LBHs) phases all coexisting. We present the two branches of HP transition temperatures, which both depend on the pr…
In this work, the microstructure of charged AdS black holes under minimal length effects is investigated. We study the thermodynamics of black holes in the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is regarded as the thermodynamic pressure. The modified Hawking temperature and phase transition are obtained based on the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). Then, using thermodynamic geometry, we show that the microstructure of black holes can be determined by the ratio of GUP parameter to charge. For a small ratio, the black hole exhibits the typical RN-AdS microstructure with va…
In the subject of black hole chemistry, a broad variety of critical phenomena for charged topological black holes (TBHs) with massive gravitons (within the framework of dRGT massive gravity) is discussed in detail. Since critical behavior and nature of possible phase transition(s) crucially depend on the specific choice of ensemble, and, in order to gain more insight into criticality in the massive gravity framework, we perform our analysis in both the canonical (fixed charge, $Q$) and the grand canonical (fixed potential, $Φ$) ensembles. It is shown that, for charged TBHs in the grand canonic…
The thermodynamic behaviour of a charged and accelerating AdS black hole is studied in the context of extended phase space with variable cosmological constant. When compared to the charged AdS black hole without acceleration, a remarkable new feature of `snapping swallowtails' appears. Namely, for any black hole with charge $Q$ and any string tension $μ$ causing the acceleration of the black hole, there exists a transition pressure $P_t=3μ^2/(8πQ^2)$ at which the standard swallowtail `snaps', causing the branch of low temperature black holes to completely disappear, leading to a pressure induc…
We construct a class of five dimensional black hole solutions to cubic quasi-topological gravity with conformal scalar hair and study their thermodynamics. We find these black holes provide the second example of black hole $λ$-lines: a line of second order (continuous) phase transitions, akin to the fluid/superfluid transition of $^4$He. Examples of isolated critical points are found for spherical black holes, marking the first in the literature to date. We also find various novel and interesting phase structures, including an isolated critical point occurring in conjunction with a double reen…
Recently, the phase space of black holes in a spherical cavity of radius $r_{B}$ has been extended by introducing a thermodynamic volume $V\equiv4πr_{B}^{3}/3$. In the extended phase space, we consider the thermodynamic geometry, which provides a powerful tool to understand the microscopic structure of black holes, of Reissner-Nordström (RN) black holes in a cavity, as well as that of Reissner-Nordström-AdS black holes. Although the phase structures of the cavity and AdS cases show striking resemblance, we find that there exist significant differences between the thermodynamic geometries of th…
The coexistent physics of de Rham-Gabada-dze-Tolley (dRGT) massive black holes and holographic massive black holes is investigated in the extended phase space where the cosmological constant is viewed as pressure. Van der Waals like phase transitions are found for both of them. Coexistent curves of reduced pressure and reduced temperature are found to be different from that of RN-AdS black holes. Coexistent curves of reduced Gibbs free energy and reduced pressure show that Gibbs free energy in the canonical ensemble decreases monotonically with the increasing pressure. The concept number densi…
In this paper, we study thermodynamics and phase structure of asymptotically AdS hairy and Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RNAdS) black holes in the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is interpreted as a thermal pressure. The RNAdS and hairy black holes are black hole solutions of an Einstein-Maxwell-scalar (EMS) model with a non-minimal coupling between the scalar and electromagnetic fields. The Smarr relation, the first law of thermodynamics and the free energy are derived for black hole solutions in the EMS model. Moreover, the phase structure of the RNAdS and hairy black holes i…
Thermodynamical stability of fluid spheres is studied in the presence of a cosmological constant, both in the Newtonian limit, as well as in General Relativity. In all cases, an increase of the cosmological constant tends to stabilize the system, making asymptotically de Sitter space more thermodynamically stable than anti-de Sitter at the purely classical level. In addition, in the Newtonian case reentrant phase transitions are observed for a positive cosmological constant, due to its repelling property in this case. In General Relativity is studied the case of radiation, for which is found t…
In this paper, we study spontaneous scalarization of asymptotically anti-de Sitter charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar model with a non-minimal coupling between the scalar and Maxwell fields. In this model, Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RNAdS) black holes are scalar-free black hole solutions, and may induce scalarized black holes due to the presence of a tachyonic instability of the scalar field near the event horizon. For RNAdS and scalarized black hole solutions, we investigate the domain of existence, perturbative stability against spherical perturbations and phase structure. In a …
In this paper, we consider quadratic Maxwell invariant as a correction to the Maxwell theory and study thermodynamic behavior of the black holes in Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravities. We consider cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure to extend phase space. Next, we obtain critical values in case of variation of nonlinearity and Gauss-Bonnet parameters. Although the general thermodynamical behavior of the black hole solutions is the same as usual Van der Waals system, we show that in special case of the nonlinear electromagnetic field, there will be a turning point for the phase di…
We investigate the thermodynamic phase behaviour of rotating and slowly accelerating AdS black holes. While we find some similarities with the non-rotating charged counterparts, such as the peculiar phenomena of "snapping swallow tails" we also find subtle but significant distinctions that can be attributed to a qualitatively modified parameter space of the solution. Consequently the zeroth order phase transition now occurs over a range of pressures, mini-entropic black holes no longer exist in the regime of slow acceleration, and the "no black hole region" emerges continuously---from a zero t…
We review recent developments on the thermodynamics of black holes in extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is interpreted as thermodynamic pressure and treated as a thermodynamic variable in its own right. In this approach, the mass of the black hole is no longer regarded as internal energy, rather it is identified with the chemical enthalpy. This leads to an extended dictionary for black hole thermodynamic quantities, in particular a notion of thermodynamic volume emerges for a given black hole spacetime. This volume is conjectured to satisfy the reverse isoperimetric inequal…
We investigate thermodynamic aspects of black holes in the recently formulated four dimensional Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity, focusing on its asymptotically de Sitter ($Λ>0$) solutions. We take a Euclidean path integral approach, where thermodynamic data is fixed at a finite radius `cavity' outside the black hole to achieve equilibrium in the presence of the cosmological horizon. Working in the extended phase space where the cosmological constant is treated as a thermodynamic pressure, we study the phase structure of both uncharged and charged solutions, uncovering a wealth of phenomena. In …
