Let $\mathcal{R}$ be the Grothendieck ring of complex smooth finite-length representations of the sequence of p-adic groups $\{GL_n(F)\}_{n=0}^\infty$, with multiplication defined through parabolic induction. We study the problem of the decomposition of products of irreducible representations in $\mathcal{R}$.
We obtain a necessary condition on irreducible factors of a given product by introducing a width invariant. Width $1$ representations form the previously studied class of ladder representations.
We later focus on the case of a product of two ladder representations, for which we establish that all irreducible factors appear with multiplicity one.
Finally, we propose a general rule for the composition series of a product of two ladder representations and prove its validity for cases in which the irreducible factors correspond to smooth Schubert varieties.
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field. Let $\mathcal{R}$ be the Grothendieck ring of complex smooth finite-length representations of the groups $\{GL_n(F)\}_{n=0}^\infty$ taken together, with multiplication defined in the sense of parabolic induction. We introduce a width invariant for elements of $\mathcal{R}$ and show that it gives an increasing filtration on the ring. Irreducible representations of width $1$ are precisely those known as ladder representations. We thus obtain a necessary condition on irreducible factors of a product of two ladder representations. For such a product we further establis…
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field with the ring of integers $\mathcal{O}$ and the prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ and let $G={\bf G}\left(\mathcal{O}/\mathfrak{p}^n\right)$ be the adjoint Chevalley group. Let $m_f(G)$ denote the smallest possible dimension of a faithful representation of $G$. Using the Stone-von Neumann theorem, we determine a lower bound for $m_f(G)$ which is asymptotically the same as the results of Landazuri, Seitz and Zalesskii for split Chevalley groups over $\mathbb{F}_q$. Our result yields a conceptual explanation of the exponents that appear in the aforementioned res…
Let F be a non-archimedean local field and let O be its ring of integers. We give a complete description of the irreducible constituents of the restriction of the unramified principal series representations of GL(3,F) to GL(3,O).
Let $\widetilde{G}$ be the $n$-fold covering group of the special linear group of degree two, over a non-Archimedean local field. We determine the decomposition into irreducibles of the restriction of the principal series representations of $\widetilde{G}$ to a maximal compact subgroup of $\widetilde{G}$.
We construct new "standard modules" for the representations of general linear groups over a local non-archimedean field. The construction uses a modified Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence for Zelevinsky's multisegments. Typically, the new class categorifies the basis of Doubilet, Rota, and Stein for matrix polynomial rings, indexed by bitableaux. Hence, our main result provides a link between the dual canonical basis (coming from quantum groups) and the DRS basis.
We study the structure constants defining two related rings: the spherical Hecke algebra of a split connected reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field, and the representation ring of the Langlands dual group.
We provide some experimental results on the decomposition of the parabolic induction of $π\otimesπ$ in the Grothendieck group where $π$ is an irreducible representation of $GL_n$ over a local non-archimedean field.
Among connected linear algebraic groups, quasi-reductive groups generalize pseudo-reductive groups, which in turn form a useful relaxation of the notion of reductivity. We study quasi-reductive groups over non-archimedean local fields, focusing on aspects involving their locally compact topology. For such groups we construct valuated root data (in the sense of Bruhat--Tits) and we make them act nicely on affine buildings. We prove that they admit Iwasawa and Cartan decompositions, and we construct small compact open subgroups with an Iwahori decomposition. We also initiate the smooth represent…
In this paper, we partially complete the local Rankin-Selberg theory of Asai $L$-functions and $ε$-factors as introduced by Flicker and Kable. In particular, we establish the relevant local functional equation at Archimedean places and prove the equality between Rankin-Selberg's and Langlands-Shahidi's $ε$-factors at every place. Our proofs work uniformly for any characteristic zero local field and use as only input the global functional equation and a globalization result for a dense subset of tempered representations that we infer from work of Finis-Lapid-Müller. These results are used in an…
Recently, Iwahori-Hecke algebras were associated to Kac-Moody groups over non-Archimedean local fields. In a previous paper, we introduced principal series representations for these algebras and partially generalized Kato's irreducibility criterion. In this paper, we study how some of these representations decompose when they are reducible and deduce information on the irreducible representations of these algebras.
Let $F$ be a non-discrete non-Archimedean locally compact field and $\mathcal{O}_F$ the ring of integers in $F$. The main results of this paper are Theorem 1.2 that classifies ergodic probability measures on the space $\mathrm{Mat}(\mathbb{N}, F)$ of infinite matrices with enties in $F$ with respect to the natural action of the group $\mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F) \times \mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F)$ and Theorem 1.6 that, for non-dyadic $F$, classifies ergodic probability measures on the space $\mathrm{Sym}(\mathbb{N}, F)$ of infinite symmetric matrices with respect to the natural act…
We give an introduction to the deformation theory of linear representations of profinite groups which Mazur initiated in the 1980's. We then consider the case of representations of finite groups. We show how Brauer's generalized decomposition numbers can be used in some cases to explicitly determine universal deformation rings.
A parametrization of irreducible representations associated with a regular adjoint orbit of a classical group over finite quotient rings of the ring of integer of a non-dyadic non-archimedean local field is presented. The parametrization is given by means of (a subset of) the character group of the centralizer of a representative of the regular adjoint orbit. Our method is based upon Weil representations over finite fields. More explicit parametrization in terms of tamely ramified extensions of the base field is given for the general linear group, the special linear group, the symplectic group…
Let F be a local non-archimedean field and let G be the group of F-valued points of a reductive algebraic group over F. In this paper we compute the Ext-groups of generalized Steinberg representations in the category of smooth G-representations with coefficients in a certain self-injective ring.
We study irreducible representations of the Hecke algebra of the pair $({\rm PGL}_2 (F[ε] / (ε^2)) , {\rm PGL}_2 (\mathcal{O}[ε] / (ε^2)))$ where $F$ is a local non-Archimedean field of characteristic different than $2$ and $\mathcal{O} \subset F$ is its ring of integers. We expect to apply our analysis to the study of the spectrum of Hecke operators on the space of cuspidal functions on the space of principal ${\rm PGL}_2$-bundles on curves over rings $\mathbb{F}_q [ε] / (ε^2)$.
Let $L_w$ be the Levi part of the stabilizer $Q_w$ in $GL_N$ (for left multiplication) of a Schubert variety $X(w)$ in the Grassmannian $G_{d,N}$. For the natural action of $L_w$ on $\mathbb{C}[X(w)]$, the homogeneous coordinate ring of $X(w)$ (for the Plücker embedding), we give a combinatorial description of the decomposition of $\mathbb{C}[X(w)]$ into irreducible $L_w$-modules; in fact, our description holds more generally for the action of the Levi part $L$ of any parabolic subgroup $Q$ that is contained in $Q_w$. This decomposition is then used to show that all smooth Schubert varieties, …
Let $\mathfrak{o}$ be the ring of integers in a non-Archimedean local field with finite residue field, $\mathfrak{p}$ its maximal ideal, and $r\geq2$ an integer. An irreducible representation of the finite group $G_{r}=\mathrm{GL}_{N}(\mathfrak{o}/\mathfrak{p}^{r})$ is called regular if its restriction to the principal congruence kernel $K^{r-1}=1+\mathfrak{p}^{r-1}\mathrm{M}_{N}(\mathfrak{o}/\mathfrak{p}^{r})$ consists of representations whose stabilisers modulo $K^{1}$ are centralisers of regular elements in $\mathrm{M}_{N}(\mathfrak{o}/\mathfrak{p})$. The regular representations form the la…
Derived decompositions of abelian categories are introduced in internal terms of abelian subcategories to construct semi-orthogonal decompositions (or Bousfield localizations, or hereditary torsion pairs) in various derived categories of abelian categories. We give a sufficient condition for arbitrary abelian categories to have such derived decompositions and show that it is also necessary for abelian categories with enough projectives and injectives. For bounded derived categories, we describe which semi-orthogonal decompositions are determined by derived decompositions. The necessary and suf…
Let A be a local commutative principal ideal ring. We study the double coset space of GL(n,A) with respect to the subgroup of upper triangular matrices. Geometrically, these cosets describe the relative position of two full flags of free primitive submodules of A^n. If k is the length of the ring, we determine for which of the pairs (n,k) the double coset space depend on the ring in question. For n=3, we give a complete parametrisation of the double coset space and provide estimates on the rate of growth of the number of double cosets.
We investigate the rings of semi-invariants for tame string algebras A(n) of non-polynomial growth. We are interested in dimension vectors of band modules. We use geometric technique related to the description of coordinate rings on varieties of complexes. The fascinating combinatorics emerges, showing that our rings of invariants are the rings of some toric varieties. We show that for $n\le 6$ the rings of semi-invariants are complete intersections but we show an example for $n=7$ that this is not the case in general.
