We present a general approach for the formulation of equations of motion for compact objects in general relativistic theories. The particle is assumed to be moving in a geometric background which in turn is asymptotically flat. Our approach defines a model for particle like objects which emphasizes different aspects of a set of gravitating objects; by concentrating in the main contributions coming from back reaction effects due to gravitational radiation.
Based in the framework of article (arXiv:1609.02110), where we have presented the general problems one encounters in the construction of balanced equations of motions for particles in relativistic theories of gravity, we present in this work the explicit balanced equations of motion for a compact object in general relativity in the harmonic gauge.
We present a convenient null gauge for the construction of the balanced equations of motion. This null gauge has the property that the asymptotic structure is intimately related to the interior one; in particular there is a strong connexion between the field equation and the balanced equations of motion. We present the balanced equations of motion in second order of the acceleration. We solve the required components of the field equation at their respective required orders, $G^2$ and $G^3$. We indicate how this approach can be extended to higher orders.
For the evolution of a compressible fluid in spherical symmetry on a Schwarzschild curved background, we design a class of well-balanced numerical algorithms with first-order or second-order of accuracy. We treat both the relativistic Burgers-Schwarzschild model and the relativistic Euler-Schwarzschild model and take advantage of the explicit or implicit forms available for the stationary solutions of these models. Our schemes follow the finite volume methodology and preserve the stationary solutions. Importantly, they allow us to investigate the global asymptotic behavior of such flows and de…
We introduce a framework for studying the effects of self-interaction on the construction of point particle initial data in General Relativity. Within this framework we rigorously prove the vanishing mass claim made by Arnowitt, Deser and Misner regarding point sources. We identify a geometric structure and a scaling parameter that allow one to determine, by controlling the effects of self-interaction, when one does or does not obtain a non-zero mass.
By applying a parabolic-hyperbolic formulation of the constraints and superposing Kerr-Schild black holes, a simple method is introduced to initialize time evolution of binary systems. As the input parameters are essentially the same as those used in the post-Newtonian (PN) setup the proposed method interrelates various physical expressions applied in PN and in fully relativistic formulations. The global ADM charges are also determined by the input parameters, and no use of boundary conditions in the strong field regime is made.
We discuss a new formalism for constructing a non-relativistic (NR) theory in curved background. Named as galilean gauge theory, it is based on gauging the global galilean symmetry. It provides a systematic algorithm for obtaining the covariant curved space time generalisation of any NR theory defined in flat space time. The resulting background is just the Newton- Cartan manifold. The example of NR free particle is explicitly demonstrated.
The leading order Green's function solutions of the general relativistic thin disc equations are computed, using a pseudo-Newtonian potential and asymptotic Laplace mode matching techniques. This solution, valid for a vanishing ISCO stress, is constructed by ensuring that it reproduces the leading order asymptotic behaviour of the near-ISCO, Newtonian, and global WKB limits. Despite the simplifications used in constructing this solution, it is typically accurate, for all values of the Kerr spin parameter $a$ and at all radii, to less than a percent of the full numerically calculated solutions …
The Anholonomic Frame and Connection Deformation Method for constructing off-diagonal solutions in (modified) Einstein gravity and nonassociative geometric flows and Finsler-Lagrange-Hamilton theories
Proposed quantum experiments in deep space will be able to explore quantum information issues in regimes where relativistic effects are important. In this essay, we argue that a proper extension of Quantum Information theory into the relativistic domain requires the expression of all informational notions in terms of quantum field theoretic (QFT) concepts. This task requires a working and practicable theory of QFT measurements. We present the foundational problems in constructing such a theory, especially in relation to longstanding causality and locality issues in the foundations of QFT. Fina…
Constructing observables that describe the localization of relativistic particles is an important foundational problem in relativistic quantum field theory (QFT). The description of localization in terms of single-time observables leads to conflict with the requirement of causality. In this paper, we describe particle localization in terms of time-of-arrival observables, defined in terms of the interaction between a quantum field and a measuring apparatus. The resulting probabilities are linear functionals of QFT correlation functions. Specializing to the case of a scalar field, we identify se…
Comparing Models of Rapidly Rotating Relativistic Stars Constructed by Two Numerical Methods
