At interfaces between complex oxides it is possible to generate electronic systems with unusual electronic properties, which are not present in the isolated oxides. One important example is the appearance of superconductivity at the interface between insulating oxides, although, until now, with very low Tc. We report the occurrence of high Tc superconductivity in the bilayer CaCuO2/SrTiO3, where both the constituent oxides are insulating. In order to obtain a superconducting state, the CaCuO2/SrTiO3 interface must be realized between the Ca plane of CaCuO2 and the TiO2 plane of SrTiO3. Only in this case extra oxygen ions can be incorporated in the interface Ca plane, acting as apical oxygen for Cu and providing holes to the CuO2 planes. A detailed hole doping spatial profile has been obtained by STEM/EELS at the O K-edge, clearly showing that the (super)conductivity is confined to about 1-2 CaCuO2 unit cells close to the interface with SrTiO3. The results obtained for the CaCuO2/SrTiO3 interface can be extended to multilayered high Tc cuprates, contributing to explain the dependence of Tc on the number of CuO2 planes in these systems.
We report the occurrence of superconductivity, with maximum Tc = 40 K, in superlattices (SLs) based on two insulating oxides, namely CaCuO2 and SrTiO3. In these (CaCuO2)n/(SrTiO3)m SLs, the CuO2 planes belong only to CaCuO2 block, which is an antiferromagnetic insulator. Superconductivity, confined within few unit cells at the CaCuO2/SrTiO3 interface, shows up only when the SLs are grown in a highly oxidizing atmosphere, because of extra oxygen ions entering at the interfaces. Evidence is reported that the hole doping of the CuO2 planes is obtained by charge transfer from the interface layers,…
A new layered oxypnictide (Fe2P2)(Sr4Sc2O6) have been synthesized by solid-state reaction. This material has an alternating layer stacking structure of anti-fluorite Fe2P2 and perovskite-based Sr4Sc2O6 oxide layers. Space group of the material is P4/nmm and lattice constants a and c are 4.016 A and 15.543 A, respectively. The interlayer Fe-Fe distance corresponding to the c-axis length is the longest ever reported in the iron-based oxypnictide systems. In both magnetization and resistivity measurements, the present compound exhibited superconductivity below 17 K, which is much higher than that…
We report zero-resistivity transition and the details of magnetic transition of a layered silver oxide Ag$_5$Pb$_2$O$_6$ single crystal, which make definitive evidence of superconductivity in this compound. In the AC susceptibility of a mono-crystal, we observed large supercooling, as well as positive peaks in the real part of the susceptibility indicating the reversibility of magnetic process. These observations reveal that Ag$_5$Pb$_2$O$_6$ is probably the first oxide that shows type-I superconductivity. Evaluation of the superconducting parameters not only gives confirming evidence of type-…
The London penetration depth, $λ(T)$, was measured in polycrystalline powders of the non-oxide perovskite superconductor $\mathrm{MgCNi_3}$ by using a sensitive tunnel-diode resonator technique. The penetration depth exhibits distinctly non s-wave BCS low-temperature behavior, instead showing quadratic temperature dependence, suggestive of a nodal order parameter.
The oxide perovskites are a large family of materials with many important physical properties. Of particular interest has been the fact that this structure type provides an excellent structural framework for the existence of superconductivity. The high Tc copper oxides are the most famous examples of superconducting perovskites, but there are many others [1]. Intermetallic compounds have been the source of many superconducting materials in the past, but they have been eclipsed in recent years by the perovskite oxides. The recent discovery of superconductivity in MgB2 [2] suggests that intermet…
Resistive and magnetization properties have been measured in BiS$_2$-based samples CeO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$BiS$_{2}$ with a systematic substitution of O with F (0 $<$ x $<$ 0.6). In contrast to the band structure calculations, it is found that the parent phase of CeOBiS$_2$ is a bad metal, instead of an band insulator. By doping electrons into the system, it is surprising to find that superconductivity appears together with an insulating normal state. This evolution is clearly different from the cuprate and the iron pnictide systems, and is interpreted as approaching the von Hove singularity. Furthe…
A central issue for copper oxides is the nature of the insulating ground state at low carrier densities and the emergence of high-temperature superconductivity from that state with doping. Even though this superconductor-insulator transition (SIT) is a zero-temperature transition, measurements are not usually carried out at low temperatures. Here we use magnetoresistance to probe both the insulating state at very low temperatures and the presence of superconducting fluctuations in La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}(LSCO) films, for doping levels that range from the insulator to the superconductor (x=0.03-0…
The Yang-Mills description of phonons and the consequent structure of electron liquids in strongly anharmonic crystals such as metal oxides is shown to yield an attractive electron-phonon interaction, and thus an instability towards the formation of bound states, which can condense to form a superconductor. This mechanism differs significantly from the pairing mechanism of conventional superconductivity: the ground state from which superconductivity emerges is a many-body state of paired electrons and holes which is not amenable to a quasiparticle description, and whose properties are similar …
We study the insulating phase of disordered indium oxide films that undergo a field-tuned superconductor-insulator transition. The transport measurements in a perpendicular magnetic field show distinct regimes of strongly fluctuating order-parameter amplitude and phase, and reveal a wide range of insulator strength in samples with differing disorder, despite the similarity in behavior near the SIT. We characterize the strength of the insulating phase and compare it to the superconducting strength. We find that the films do not return to the expected normal state even at high perpendicular magn…
Here I extend my last work about the origin of the pseudo-gaps in underdoped cuprates (arXiv: cond-mat. 1011.3206), to include the mechanism of superconductivity. This is done by adapting the formalism of the double correlations in systems with nested Fermi surfaces to the semi one dimensional system of strings of holes. It is proposed that magnetic interaction is crucial for the establishment of the pseudogap and the high temperature superconductivity. It is shown that superconductivity disturbs the completeness of the strings of holes, and creates fluctuations in their shapes. This, in turn,…
The role played by the insulating intermediate (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OH layer on magnetic and superconducting properties of (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OHFe$_{0.98}$Se was studied by means of muon-spin rotation. It was found that it is not only enhances the coupling between the FeSe layers for temperatures below $\simeq 10$ K, but becomes superconducting by itself due to the proximity to the FeSe ones. Superconductivity in (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OH layers is most probably filamentary-like and the energy gap value, depending on the order parameter symmetry, does not exceed 1-1.5 meV.
The two-dimensional electron gas at the LaTiO3/SrTiO3 or LaAlO3/SrTiO3 oxide interfaces becomes superconducting when the carrier density is tuned by gating. The measured resistance and superfluid density reveal an inhomogeneous superconductivity resulting from percolation of filamentary structures of superconducting "puddles" with randomly distributed critical temperatures, embedded in a non-superconducting matrix. Following the evidence that superconductivity is related to the appearance of high-mobility carriers, we model intra-puddle superconductivity by a multi-band system within a weak co…
The proximity effect of a C-type antiferromagnet (C-AFM) with the spin canting at low temperature is investigated in the hybrid Nd0.35Sr0.65MnO3(NSCO)/YBa2Cu3O7(YBCO) oxide system through magnetic and transport measurements. It is found that the onset of a spin-canted state destroys partially the superconducting order parameter. Interestingly, due to the instability of this spin-canted state, zero-resistivity recovers at the offset of spin canting. Our result demonstrates clearly the high sensitivity of superconducting order parameter to a modulation of internal field.
We report the results of low-temperature heat capacity measurements of the pnictide oxide superconductor BaTi$_2$Sb$_2$O doped with sodium. The temperature and field dependent heat capacity data are well described by a single-gap BCS theory. The estimated values for the normal state Sommerfeld constant, the heat capacity jump at $T_c$, and the electron-phonon coupling constant are in favor of a conventional weak coupling superconductivity mediated by electron-phonon interaction. The results are discussed with regard to and compared with recent first principle calculations.
Superconducting and normal-state properties of the beta-pyrochlore oxide KOs2O6 are studied by means of thermodynamic and transport measurements. It is shown that the superconductivity is of conventional s-wave type and lies in the extremely strong-coupling regime. Specific heat and resistivity measurements reveal that there are characteristic low-energy phonons that give rise to unusual scattering of carriers due to strong electron-phonon interactions. The entity of the low-energy phonons is ascribed to the heavy rattling of the K ion confined in an oversized cage made of OsO6 octahedra. It i…
Transparent conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films, electrochemically intercalated with sodium or other cations, show tunable superconducting transitions with a maximum $T_c$ at 5 K. The transition temperature and the density of states, $D(E_F)$ (extracted from the measured Pauli susceptibility $χ_p$ exhibit the same dome shaped behavior as a function of electron density. Optimally intercalated samples have an upper critical field $\approx 4$ T and $Δ/{k_BT_c} \approx 2.0$. Accompanying the development of superconductivity, the films show a reversible electrochromic change from transpare…
We propose a model for a spatially modulated collective state of superconducting cuprates in which the electronic properties vary locally in space. In this model the regions of higher hole density (called stripes) are described as Luttinger liquids and the regions of lower density (antiferromagnetic ladders) as an interacting bosonic gas of d$_{x^2-y^2}$ hole pairs. We show that the transition to the superconducting state is topological and driven by decay processes among these elementary excitations in the presence of vibrations.
The charge frustration with the mixed-valence state inherent to LiTi$_2$O$_4$, which is found to be a unique spinel oxide superconductor, is the impetus for paying special attention to reveal the existence of intriguing superconducting properties. Here, we report a pronounced fourfold rotational symmetry of the superconductivity in high-quality single-crystalline LiTi$_2$O$_4$ (001) thin films. Both the magnetoresistivity and upper critical field under an applied magnetic field manifest striking fourfold oscillations deep inside the superconducting state, whereas the anisotropy vanishes in the…
Interfacial phonons between iron-based superconductors (FeSCs) and perovskite substrates have received considerable attention due to the possibility of enhancing preexisting superconductivity. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we studied the correlation between superconductivity and e-ph interaction with interfacial-phonons in an iron-based superconductor Sr$_2$VO$_3$FeAs ($T_c \approx$ 33 K) made of alternating FeSC and oxide layers. The quasiparticle interference measurement over regions with systematically different average superconducting gaps due to the e-ph coupling locally modulate…
A new layered iron arsenide oxide (Fe2As2)(Ca4(Mg,Ti)3Oy) was discovered. Its crystal structure is tetragonal with a space group of I4/mmm consisted of the anti-fluorite type FeAs layer and blocking layer of triple perovskite cells and is identical with (Fe2As2)(Sr4(Sc,Ti)3O8) discovered in our previous study. The lattice constants of (Fe2As2)(Ca4(Mg,Ti)3Oy) are a = 3.877 A and c = 33.37 A. This compound exhibited bulk superconductivity up to 43 K in susceptibility measurement without intentional carrier doping. A resistivity drop was observed at ~47 K and zero resistance was achieved at 42 K.…
The discovery of high temperature superconductivity in cuprates was possible only through an intimate knowledge of perovskite oxides which have been synthesized and characterized for decades at the IBM in the Zürich laboratoty. Especially SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 have been in the focus at IBM as was presented in Volume 1 of a series [1]. Probably for the first time detailed microscopic investigations of the local properties of these compounds have been obtained by studying by means of EPR the surroundings of transition metal impurities in these materials. These experiments enabled the identification …
We have discovered a new iron pnictide oxide superconductor (Fe2As2)(Sr4(Mg,Ti)2O6). This material is isostructual with (Fe2As2)(Sr4M2O6) (M = Sc, Cr, V), which were found in previous studies. The structure of this compound is tetragonal with a space group of P4/nmm and consists of the anti-fluorite type FeAs layer and perovskite-type block layer. The lattice constants are a = 3.935 A and c = 15.952 A for (Fe2As2)(Sr4MgTiO6). Bulk superconductivity with Tc(onset) of ~26 K was observed for a partially Co substituted sample. Moreover, Co-free and Ti-rich samples exhibited higher Tc(onset)'s abov…
We review the empirical scenario emerging from the measured doping dependence of the transition temperature and the anisotropy parameter $% γ$ $=ξ_{ab}/ξ_{c}$, defined as the ratio of the correlation lengths parallel and perpendicular to the ab-planes. It suggests that two dimensional models cannot explain the occurrence of superconductivity in the cuprates. This conclusion is confirmed and extended in terms of a novel scaling relation. It involves the transition temperature, the aerial superfluid density in the ground state, $γ$ and the dynamic critical exponent of the quantum superconductor …
We present a theory for the pseudo-gap state recently observed at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface, based on superconducting islands embedded in a metallic background. Superconductivity within each island is BCS-like, and the local critical temperatures are randomly distributed, some of them necessarily exceeding the critical temperature for global percolation to the zero resistance state. Consequently, tunneling spectra display a suppression of the density of states and coherence peaks already well above the percolative transition. This model of inhomogeneous superconductivity accounts well for th…
Up to now, there have been two material families, the cuprates and the iron-based compounds with high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC). An essential open question is whether the two classes of materials share the same essential physics. In both, superconductivity (SC) emerges when an antiferromagnetical (AFM) ordered phase is suppressed. However, in cuprates, the repulsive interaction among the electrons is so strong that the parent compounds are "Mott insulators." By contrast, all iron-based parents are metallic. One perspective is that the iron-based parents are weakly correlated and tha…
Adsorption of one-third monolayer of Sn on an atomically-clean Si(111) substrate produces a two-dimensional triangular adatom lattice with one unpaired electron per site. This dilute adatom reconstruction is an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator; however, the system can be modulation-doped and metallized using heavily-doped p-type Si(111) substrates. Here, we show that the hole-doped dilute adatom layer on a degenerately doped p-type Si(111) wafer is superconducting with a critical temperature of 4.7 +- 0.3 K. While a phonon-mediated coupling scenario would be consistent with the observed TC, Mo…
Another phase transition that is probably of first order is found in the beta-pyrochlore oxide superconductor KOs2O6 with a superconducting transition temperature Tc of 9.6 K. It takes place at Tp=7.5 K in the superconducting state in a zero magnetic field. By applying magnetic fields of up to 140 kOe, the Tc gradually decreased to 5.2 K, while Tp changed little, eventually breaking through the Hc2 line at approximately 65 kOe in the H-T diagram. Both the normal-state resistivity and Hc2 change slightly but significantly across the second phase transition. It is suggested that the transition i…
Our goals are to assist a non-practitioner understand likely resolution of the controversy about the boson that couples Cooper pairs in Cu oxides and to consider if high temperature superconductivity (HTS) in solid oxides might be related to predicted HTS in liquid metallic hydrogen (LMH) near 0 K. High temperatures (T~Tc~!D~100 K, where Tc is superconducting critical temperature and !D is the Debye temperature) induce phonon-phonon scattering in ordered materials, which is sensitive to impurities and disorder. Experimental results suggest the boson that couples Cooper pairs in Bi2SrCa2Cu2O8 i…
We present results on disordered amorphous films which are expected to undergo a field-tuned Superconductor-Insulator Transition. Based on low-field data and I-V characteristics, we find evidence of a low temperature Metal-to-Superconductor transition. This transition is characterized by hysteretic magnetoresistance and discontinuities in the I-V curves. The metallic phase just above the transition is different from the "Fermi Metal" before superconductivity sets in.
Here we report a new class of superconductors prepared by high pressure synthesis in the quaternary family ReFeAsO1-delta (Re = Sm, Nd, Pr, Ce, La) without fluorine doping. The onset superconducting critical temperature (Tc) in these compounds increases with the reduction of Re atom size, and the highest Tc obtained so far is 55 K in SmFeAsO1-delta. For the NdFeAsO1-delta system with different oxygen concentration a dome-shaped phase diagram was found.
In multiorbital materials, superconductivity can exhibit new exotic forms that include several coupled condensates. In this context, quantum confinement in two-dimensional superconducting oxide interfaces offers new degrees of freedom to engineer the band structure and selectively control 3d-orbitals occupancy by electrostatic doping. However, the presence of multiple superconducting condensates in these systems has not yet been demonstrated. Here, we use resonant microwave transport to extract the superfluid stiffness of the (110)-oriented LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface in the entire phase diagram. …
Superconductivity forms out of the condensation of Cooper pairs of electrons. The mechanism by which Cooper pairs are created in non-conventional superconductors is often elusive because experimental signatures that connect a specific pairing mechanism to the properties of superconducting state are rare. The recently discovered superconducting oxide-insulator/KTaO$_3$ interface may offer clues about its origins. Here we observe distinct dependences of the superconducting transition temperature Tc on carrier density n$_{2D}$ for electron gases formed at KTaO$_3$ (111), (001) and (110) interface…
Large-bipolaron superconductivity is plausible with carrier densities well below those of conventional metals. Bipolarons form when carriers self-trap in pairs. Coherently moving large-bipolarons require extremely large ratios of static to optical dielectric-constants. The mutual Coulomb repulsion of a planar large-bipolarons paired carriers drives it to a four-lobed shape. A phonon-mediated attraction among large-bipolarons propels their condensation into a liquid. This liquids excitations move slowly with a huge effective mass. Excitations concomitant weak scattering by phonons produces a mo…
We report a first-principles density-functional calculation of the electronic structure and properties of the recently discovered superconducting beta-pyrochlore oxide KOs_2O_6. We find that the electronic structure near the Fermi energy E_F is dominated by strongly hybridized Os-5d and O-2p states. A van Hove singularity very close to E_F leads to a relatively large density of states at E_F, and the Fermi surface exhibits strong nesting along several directions. These features could provide the scattering processes leading to the observed anomalous temperature dependence of the resistivity an…
Manipulating the superconducting states of high-T_c cuprate superconductors in an efficient and reliable way is of great importance for their applications in next-generation electronics. Traditional methods are mostly based on a trial-and-error method that is difficult to implement and time consuming. Here, employing ionic liquid gating, a selective control of volatile and non-volatile superconductivity is achieved in pristine insulating Pr_2CuO_{4\pmδ} film, based on two distinct mechanisms: 1) with positive electric fields, the film can be reversibly switched between non-superconducting and …
Ferromagnet/Superconductor/Ferromagnet (F/S/F) trilayers constitute the core of a superconducting spin valve. The switching effect of the spin valve is based on interference phenomena occurring due to the proximity effect at the S/F interfaces. A remarkable effect is only expected if the core structure exhibits strong critical temperature oscillations, or most favorable, reentrant superconductivity, when the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer is increased. The core structure has to be grown on an antiferromagnetic oxide layer (or such layer to be placed on top) to pin by exchange bias the ma…
Since the discovery of superconductivity at 26 K in oxy-pnictide LaFeAsO1-xFx, enormous interests have been stimulated in the field of condensed matter physics and material sciences. Among the many kind of structures in the iron pnictide superconductors, FeSe with the PbO structure has received special attention since there is not poisonous pnictogen element in chemical composition and its structure is the simplest one. However, the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) in iron chalcogenide compounds is not enhanced as high as other iron pnictide superconductors under ambient pressure un…
Here we report pressure effect on superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of ReFeAsO0.85 (Re= Sm and Nd) system without fluorine doping. In-situ measurements under high pressure showed that Tc of the two compounds decrease monotonously over the pressure range investigated. The pressure coefficients dTc/dP in SmFeAsO0.85 and Nd FeAsO0.85 were different, revealing the important influence of the deformation in layers on Tc. Theoretical calculations suggested that the electron density of states decrease with increasing pressure, following the same trend of experimental data.
The recent discovery nickel oxides superconductors have highlighted the importance of first-principles simulations for understanding the formation of the bound electrons at the core of superconductivity. Nevertheless, superconductivity in oxides is often ascribed to strong electronic correlation effects that Density Functional Theory (DFT) cannot properly take into account, thereby disqualifying this technique. Being isostructural to nickel oxides, Sr1-xKxBiO3 superconductors form an ideal testbed for unveiling (i) the lowest theory level needed to model complex superconductors and (ii) the un…
In this paper we report the fabrication and superconducting properties of GdO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$FeAs. It is found that when x is equal to 0.17, GdO$_{0.83}$F$_{0.17}$FeAs is a superconductor with the onset transition temperature T$_{c}^{on}\approx$ 36.6K. Resistivity anomaly near 130K was observed for all samples up to x = 0.17, such a phenomenon is similar to that of LaO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$FeAs. Hall coefficient indicates that GdO$_{0.83}$F$_{0.17}$FeAs is conducted by electron-like charge carriers.
Complex oxide heterointerfaces can host a rich of emergent phenomena, and epitaxial growth is usually at the heart of forming these interfaces. Recently, a strong crystalline-orientation-dependent two-dimensional superconductivity was discovered at interfaces between KTaO3 single-crystal substrates and films of other oxides. Unexpectedly, rare of these oxide films was epitaxially grown. Here, we report the existence of superconductivity in epitaxially grown LaVO3/KTaO3(111) heterostructures, with a superconducting transition temperature of ~0.5 K. Meanwhile, no superconductivity was detected i…
We have discovered a new iron pnictide oxide superconductor (Fe2As2)(Sr4(Mg,Ti)2O6). This material is isostructual with (Fe2As2)(Sr4M2O6) (M = Sc, Cr), which was found in our previous study. The structure of this compound is tetragonal with a space group of P4/nmm and consists of the anti-fluorite type FeAs and perovskite-type blocking layers. The lattice constants are a = 3.935 A and c = 15.952 A for (Fe2As2)(Sr4MgTiO6). In both magnetization and resistivity measurements, this compound exhibits superconductivity below 10 K. Moreover, ratio of Mg and Ti in this compound can be changed toward T…
Results for pseudogaps are obtained from a band model, where the stability of the gap depends on the amplitudes of vibrational displacements, or magnetic moments, and their coupling to electrons. A one-particle gap is favored by normal thermal excitations of phonons or spin waves. Another gap can be generated by spontaneous waves at lower temperature, if the electronic energy gain overcomes the elastic/magnetic energy needed for increased amplitudes of the oscillations. This state is characterized by charge or spin density waves. The pseudogap has many features in common with the superconducti…
We have performed several high pressure electrical resistance experiments on Bi1.98Sr2.06Y0.68Cu2O8, an insulating parent compound of the high-Tc Bi2212 family of copper oxide superconductors. We find a resistive anomaly, a downturn at low temperature, that onsets with applied pressure in the 20-40 kbar range. Through both resistance and magnetoresistance measurements, we identify this anomaly as a signature of induced superconductivity. Resistance to higher pressures decreases Tc, giving a maximum of 10 K. The higher pressure measurements exhibit a strong sensitivity to the hydrostaticity of …
Thin superconducting films form a unique platform for geometrically-confined, strongly-interacting electrons. They allow an inherent competition between disorder and superconductivity, which in turn enables the intriguing superconducting-to-insulator transition and believed to facilitate the comprehension of high-Tc superconductivity. Furthermore, understanding thin film superconductivity is technologically essential e.g. for photo-detectors, and quantum-computers. Consequently, the absence of an established universal relationships between critical temperature ($T_c$), film thickness ($d$) and…
We show how in principle a coherent coupling between two superconductors of opposite parity can be realized in a three-layer oxide heterostructure. Due to strong intraionic spin-orbit coupling in the middle layer, singlet Cooper pairs are converted into triplet ones and vice versa. This results in a large enhancement of the triplet superconductivity, persisting well above the native triplet critical temperature.
The recent observation of superconductivity at the interfaces between KTaO3 and EuO (or LaAlO3) offers a new example of emergent phenomena at oxide interfaces. This superconductivity exhibits an unusual strong dependence on the crystalline orientation of KTaO3 and its superconducting transition temperature Tc is nearly one order of magnitude higher than that of the seminal LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. To understand its mechanism, it is crucial to address if the formation of oxide interfaces is indispensable for the presence of superconductivity. Here, by exploiting ionic liquid (IL) gating, we obt…
We report the first observation of superconductivity in heterostructure consisting of an insulating ferroelectric film (Ba$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$TiO$_3$) grown on an insulating parent compound of La$_2$CuO$_4$ with [001] orientation. The heterostructure was prepared by magnetron sputtering on a non-atomically-flat surface with inhomogeneities of the order of 1-2 nm. The measured superconducting transition temperature T$_c$ is about 30K. We have shown that superconductivity is confined near the interface region. Application of a weak magnetic field perpendicular to the interface leads to the appeara…
An hour-glass shaped magnetic excitation spectrum appears to be an universal characteristic of the high-temperature superconducting cuprates. Fluctuating charge stripes or alternative band structure approaches are able to explain the origin of these spectra. Recently, an hour- glass spectrum has been observed in an insulating cobaltate, thus, favouring the charge stripe scenario. Here we show that neither charge stripes nor band structure effects are responsible for the hour-glass dispersion in a cobaltate within the checkerboard charge ordered regime of La2-xSrxCoO4. The search for charge str…
We have carried out a detailed study to investigate the existence of an insulating parent phase for FeSe superconductor. The insulating Fe4Se5 with specific Fe-vacancy order shows a 3D-Mott variable range hopping behavior with a Verwey-like electronic correlation at around 45 K. The application of the RTA process at 450 celcius degree results in the destruction of Fe-vacancy order and induces more electron carriers by increasing the Fe3+ valence state. Superconductivity emerges with Tc ~ 8K without changing the chemical stoichiometry of the sample after the RTA process by resulting in the addi…
We make the first report that a metallic pyrochlore oxide \Cd2Re2O7, exhibits type II superconductivity at 1.1 K. The pyrochlore oxide is known to be a geometrical frustrated system, which includes the tetrahedral network of magnetic ions. A large number of compounds are classified in the family of pyrochlore oxides, and these compounds exhibit a wide variety of physical properties ranging from insulator through semiconductor and from bad metal to good metal. Until now, however, no superconductivity has been reported for frustrated pyrochlore oxides. The bulk superconductivity of this compound…
We present the results of an experimental study of superconducting, disordered, thin-films of amorphous Indium Oxide. These films can be driven from the superconducting phase to a reentrant insulating state by the application of a perpendicular magnetic field ($B$). We find that the high-$B$ insulator exhibits activated transport with a characteristic temperature, $T_I$. $T_I$ has a maximum value ($T_{I}^p$) that is close to the superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) at $B$ = 0, suggesting a possible relation between the conduction mechanisms in the superconducting and insulating phase…
Recently new pyrochlore oxides superconductors AOs2O6 (A=K,Rb,Cs) were found and we measured the pressure dependence of magnetization up to 1.2 GPa in order to deduce the pressure effect of Tc in the three beta-pyrochlore oxides. It is found that the initial pressure dependence of Tc is positive for all the compounds. Only KOs2O6 exhibits a saturation in Tc at 0.56 GPa and the downturn at higher pressure
