ROTSE1 J164341.65+251748.1 was photometrically observed in the V band during three epochs with the 0.84-m telescope of the San Pedro Mártir Observatory in Mexico. Based on additional BVR photometry, we find that the primary star has a spectral type around G0V. The light curve of the system is typical of a W~UMa type binary stars and has an orbital period of $\sim$ 0.323 days. In an effort to gain a better understanding of the binary system and determine its physical properties, we analyzed the light curve with the Wilson and Devinney method. We found that ROTSE1 J164341.65+251748.1 has a mass ratio of $\sim$ 0.34 and that the less massive component is over 230 K hotter than the primary star. The inclination of the system is $\sim$ 84.6 degrees, and the {\bf degree} of over-contact is 11\%. The analysis shows the presence of variable bright spots on the primary star.
We analyze multicolor light curves of six totally eclipsing, short-period W UMa binaries and derive, for the first time, their orbital and stellar parameters. The mass ratios are established robustly through an automated q-search procedure that performs a heuristic survey of the parameter space. Five stars belong to the W and one to the A subtype. The mass ratios range from 0.23 to 0.51 and the fillouts from 10 to 15%. We estimate the ages and discuss the evolutionary status of these objects in comparison with a sample of other short-period W UMa binaries from the literature.
WFI J161953.3+031909 was considered to be an eclipsing novalike object in the period gap. Using the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) public database, I found that this object is the first eclipsing Z Cam star in the period gap, and is also most likely an ER UMa star with supercycles of 60-80 d. The longest outburst (most likely a superoutburst) comprised 35-46% of the supercycle in the extreme case. If superhumps are confirmed, this becomes the second object showing both ER UMa and Z Cam states after NY Ser. These objects have anomalously high mass-transfer rates despite that they are in the pe…
New BVRI light curves of the eclipsing binary system 1SWASP J160156.04+202821.6 have been obtained with the 1.88-m telescope of Kottamia Astronomical Observatory (KAO), Egypt on June, 2013. New twenty times of minima of the system J1601 and new ephemeris have been reduced and derived from the present photometry. A preliminary determination of the geometric and photometric element parameters of the system J1601 has been derived.
We observed the deeply eclipsing SU UMa-type dwarf nova V4140 Sgr and established the very short supercycle of 69.7(3) d. There were several short outbursts between superoutbursts. These values, together with the short orbital period (0.06143 d), were similar to, but not as extreme as, those of ER UMa-type dwarf novae. The object is thus the first, long sought, eclipsing ER UMa-like object. This ER UMa-like nature can naturally explain the high (apparent) quiescent viscosity and unusual temperature profile in quiescence, which were claimed observational features against the thermal-tidal insta…
Photometric observations in V and I bands of six eclipsing binaries at the lower limit of the orbital periods of W UMa stars are presented. Three of them are newly discovered eclipsing systems. The light curve solutions revealed that all short-period targets were contact or overcontact binaries and added new six binaries to the family of short-period systems with estimated parameters. Four binaries have equal in size components and mass ratio near 1. The phase variability of the V-I colors of all targets may be explained by lower temperatures of their back surfaces than those of their side sur…
By analyzing two sets of complete $BVR_cI_c$ light curves of V342 UMa and three sets of complete $BVR_cI_c$ light curves of V509 Cam, we determined that the two systems are both W-subtype contact binaries and that V342 UMa shows a shallow contact configuration, while V509 Cam exhibits a medium contact configuration. Since both of them are totally eclipsing binaries, the physical parameters derived only by the photometric light curves are reliable.Meanwhile, the period changes of the two targets were analyzed based on all available eclipsing times. We discovered that V342 UMa shows long-term pe…
We observed the 2014 superoutburst of the SU UMa-type intermediate polar CC Scl. We detected superhumps with a mean period of 0.05998(2) d during the superoutburst plateau and during three nights after the fading. During the post-superoutburst stage after three nights, a stable superhump period of 0.059523(6) d was detected. We found that this object is an eclipsing system with an orbital period of 0.058567233(8) d. By assuming that the disk radius in the post-superoutburst phase is similar to those in other SU UMa-type dwarf novae, we obtained a mass ratio of q=0.072(3) from the dynamical pre…
Using multicolour photometry we have confirmed the binary nature of the new W-type W UMa eclipsing binary VSX J053024.8+842243 and established its primary eclipse ephemeris to be HJD = 2455924.38150(26) + 0.4322929(1) * E. Using the light curve modelling code PHOEBE and published data on the evolution of W-type contact binaries we found the primary and secondary components to have masses 0.50 Msun and 1.44 Msun, radii 0.87 Rsun and 1.42 Rsun, luminosities 0.98 Lsun and 1.91 Lsun, temperatures 6145 K and 5702 K and binary orbit inclination 59.4°. We found the distance to the binary to be 511 pa…
New BVR light curves of the eclipsing binary system NSV 5904 have been constructed based on CCD observations obtained using 1.88-m telescope of Kottamia observatory during the phase of telescope testing and adjusting its optical quality on May, 2009. New times of minima and epoch have been determined from these light curves. Using the Binary Maker 3.0 (BM3) package, a preliminary determination of the photometric orbital and physical parameters of NSV 5904 are given.
We report unfiltered photometry during superoutbursts of PU UMa in 2009 and 2012. The amplitude was 4.5 magnitudes above mean quiescence and lasted at least 9 to 10 days. Superhumps were present with a peak-to-peak amplitude of up to ~0.3 mag, thereby confirming it to be a member of the SU UMa family of dwarf novae. The mean superhump period during the later part of the 2012 outburst was Psh = 0.08076(40) d. Analysis of the eclipse times of minimum, supplemented with data from other researchers, revealed an orbital period of Porb = 0.077880551(17) d. The superhump period excess was epsilon = 0…
The phenomenological parameters of eclipsing binary stars, which are the prototypes of the EA, EB and EW systems are determined using the expert complex of computer programs, which realizes the NAV ("New Algol Variable") algorithm (Andronov 2010, 2012) and its possible modifications are discussed, as well as constrains for estimates of some physical parameters of the systems in a case of photometric observations only, such as the degree of eclipse, ratio of the mean surface brightnesses of the components. The half-duration of the eclipse is 0.0617(7), 0.1092(18) and 0.1015(7) for Algol, $β$ Ly…
CRTS J035905.9+175034 is the first eclipsing SU UMa system for which a superoutburst has been observed by Kepler in the short-cadence mode. The light curve contains one superoutburst, eight normal outbursts (including a precursor to the superoutburst), and several minioutbursts that are present before -- but not after -- the superoutburst. The superoutburst began with a precursor normal outburst, and shortly after the peak of the precursor, the system developed large-amplitude superhumps that achieved their maximum amplitude after just three superhump cycles. The period excess of the initial s…
We use extensive model grids to estimate the global parameters of four partially-eclipsing W UMa contact binaries near the period cutoff. All four systems consist of K-type main sequence primaries and M-type secondaries that appear undersized and underluminous for their masses because of the energy transfer through the common envelope. Three of the four stars exhibit light curve asymmetry that is explained in terms of magnetic activity and modeled with dark spots. We discuss the reliability of the photometric mass ratios and derived absolute parameters in context of total or partial eclipses a…
The first multi-colour light curve models and period studies for the totally eclipsing W UMa stars TYC 3700-1384-1, V1511 Her and V1179 Her are presented. All three stars are A-subtype W UMa stars of spectral type F. The light curve solutions show that TYC 3700-1384-1 has a moderately low mass ratio of q = 0.182 +/- 0.001 and a degree of overcontact of f = 49%. For V1179 Her a mass ratio q = 0.153 +/- 0.001 and a degree of overcontact of f = 48% is derived. The solution for V1511 Her is inconclusive, however the mass ratio is expected to be between 0.13 < q < 0.15. The evolutionary status is c…
The UV spectra of nova-like variables are dominated by emission from the accretion disk, modified by scattering in a wind emanating from the disk. Here we model the spectra of RW Tri and UX UMa, the only two eclipsing nova-likes which have been observed with the Hubble Space Telescope in the far-ultraviolet, in an attempt to constrain the geometry and the ionization structure of their winds. Using our Monte Carlo radiative transfer code we computed spectra for simply-parameterized axisymmetric biconical outflow models and were able to find plausible models for both systems. These reproduce the…
We present analysis of optical photometric and polarimetric observations of contact binary system FO Hydra (FO Hya). The computed period of the system is 0.469556+/-0.000003 days. An O-C curve analysis indicates an increase in its period by 5.77x10^{-8} day yr^{-1}. The photometric light curves are analyzed using Wilson-Devinney code (WD). The present analysis shows that FO Hya is a B-subtype of W UMa type contact binary. The radii and mass of primary and secondary components are found, respectively, to be R_1 = 1.62+/-0.03 R_sun and R_2 = 0.91+/-0.02 R_sun, and M_1 = 1.31+/-0.07 M_sun and M_2…
The multicolour photometric observations of the neglected eclipsing binary FT Ursae Majoris (FT UMa) were obtained in 2010. The 2003 version of Wilson-Devinney code was used to analyze the light curves in $B$, $V$, and $R$ bands simultaneously. Based on the spectroscopic mass ratio $q=0.984$ published by Pribulla et al., it is found that FT UMa is an evolved contact binary with a contact degree of 15.3%. The low amplitude of light variations, $\sim 0.15$ mag, arises mainly from a moderately low inclination angle of $i=62.^{\circ}80$ and almost identical components in size rather than the light…
We report photometric and spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing SU UMa-type dwarf nova ASASSN-18aan. We observed the 2018 superoutburst with 2.3 mag brightening and found the orbital period ($P_{\rm orb}$) to be 0.149454(3) d, or 3.59 hr. This is longward of the period gap, establishing ASASSN-18aan as one of a small number of long-$P_{\rm orb}$ SU UMa-type dwarf novae. The estimated mass ratio, ($q=M_2/M_1 = 0.278(1)$), is almost identical to the upper limit of tidal instability by the 3:1 resonance. From eclipses, we found that the accretion disk at the onset of the superoutburst may r…
We present the photometric properties of V608 Cas from detailed studies of light curves and eclipse timings. The light curve synthesis indicates that the eclipsing pair is an overcontact binary with parameters of $ΔT$ = 155 K, $q$ = 0.328, and $f$ = 26 %. We detected the third light $\ell_{3}$, which corresponds to about 8 % and 5 % of the total systemic light in $V$ and $R$ bands, respectively. Including our 6 timing measurements, a total of 38 times of minimum light were used for a period study. It was found that the orbital period of V608 Cas has varied in some combination of an upward para…
We present a statistical study of the largest bibliographic compilation of stellar and orbital parameters of W UMa stars derived by light curve synthesis with Roche models. The compilation includes nearly 700 individually investigated objects from over 450 distinct publications. Almost 70% of this sample is comprised of stars observed in the last decade that have not been considered in previous statistical studies. We estimate the ages of the cataloged stars, model the distributions of their periods, mass ratios, temperatures and other quantities, and compare them with the data from CRTS, LAMO…
We present CCD photometric observations of an eclipsing binary in the direction of the open cluster Praesepe using the 2 m telescope of IUCAA Girawali Observatory, India. Though the system was classified as an eclipsing binary by Pepper et al.(2008),detail investigations were lacking. The photometric solutions using the Wilson-Devinney code suggest that it is a W-type W UMa system and interestingly, the system parameters were similar to another contact binary system SW Lac.
We present a classification of the light curve morphologies of eclipsing binary systems observed by ASAS-SN based on their light curve images. The data of 16500 eclipsing systems having three different classes (detached Algol type, $β$ Lyr type, and W UMa type) are collected to construct their light curves. A deep learning algorithm containing the convolutional neural networks is employed on the images to achieve a satisfying classification. A code called ASEBCLASS is written in Python language, and it uses the TensorFlow platform through Keras API to employ the mathematical libraries in the t…
We present our ground-based CCD observations of the close binary systems DD Mon and XY UMa in B, V, R and I bands. The light curves are analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney code (W-D) for the derivation of the geometric and photometric elements of the systems. We compare the methods of photometric and spectroscopic mass ratio determination in these binaries, as a function of all typical difficulties, which arise during the analysis of such systems (light curve asymmetries, third light etc). Finally, a new spot model is suggested for the eclipsing system XY UMa, which belongs to the RS CVn type o…
We report on observations of the eclipsing binary 2MASS 19090585+4911585 with the 25 cm auxiliary telescope of the University Observatory Jena. We show that a nearby brighter star (2MASS 19090783+4912085) was previously misclassified as the eclipsing binary and find 2MASS 19090585+4911585 to be the true source of variation. We present photometric analysis of VRI light curves. The system is an overcontact binary of W UMa type with an orbital period of (0.288374 +/- 0.000010) d.
During the primary Kepler mission, between 2009 and 2013, about 150,000 pre-selected targets were observed with a 29.42 minute-long cadence. However, a survey of background stars that fall within the field of view (FOV) of the downloaded apertures of the primary targets has revealed a number of interesting objects. In this paper we present the results of this search focusing on short period eclipsing binary (SPEB) stars in the background pixels of primary Kepler targets. We used Lomb-Scargle and Phase Dispersion Minimisation methods to reveal pixels that show significant periodicities, resulti…
We report the analysis of a binary blue straggler in NGC 6752 with a short orbital period of 0.315 d and a W UMA-type light curve. We use photometric data spanning 13 years to place limits on the mass ratio (0.15<q<0.35), luminosity ratio (L1/L2 about 4.0) and the ratio of the radii of the components (r1/r2 about 2.0). The effective temperatures of the components are nearly identical, and the system is detached or semi-detached (in the latter case the component filling its Roche lobe is the secondary). Such a configuration is unusual given the shortness of the orbital period, and it must have …
DK Cyg (P = 0.4707) is a W Ursae Majoris type eclipsing binary system that undergoes complete eclipses. All the published photoelectric data have been collected and utilized to re-examine and update the period behavior of the system. A significant period increase with rate of 12.590x10-11 day/cycle was calculated. New period and ephemeris has been calculated for the system. A long term photometric solution study was performed and a light curve elements were calculated. We investigated the evolutionary status of the system using theoretical evolutionary models.
The CCD observations for the W UMa type binary systems GSC 2362-2866 and GSC 107-596 have been analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney Code to determine their photometric orbital and physical parameters. The results show that both systems may be classified as A-subtype of W-UMa eclipsing binary. The mass ratio of GSC 2362-2866 is found to be q = 0.73, with an over-contact degree of f = 0.122%. While the mass ratio of the system GSC 107-596 is found to be q = 0.70 with an over-contact degree of f = 0.166% in V_band and q = 0.69 and f = 0.111% in R band
We present the analysis of hot spot brightness in light curves of the eclipsing dwarf nova IY Ursae Majoris during its normal outburst in March 2013 and in quiescence in April 2012 and in October 2015. Examination of four reconstructed light curves of the hot spot eclipses showed directly that the brightness of the hot spot changed significantly only during the outburst. The brightness of the hot spot, before and after the outburst, was on the same level. Hereby, based on the behaviour of the hot spot, IY UMa during its normal outburst follows the disk-instability model.
In this paper we estimate the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) yield of eclipsing binary stars, which will survey ~20,000 square degrees of the southern sky during the period of 10 years in 6 photometric passbands to r ~ 24.5. We generate a set of 10,000 eclipsing binary light curves sampled to the LSST time cadence across the whole sky, with added noise as a function of apparent magnitude. This set is passed to the Analysis of Variance (AoV) period finder to assess the recoverability rate for the periods, and the successfully phased light curves are passed to the artificial intelligence…
CCD observations of 68 eclipsing binary systems, candidates for containing δ Scuti components, were obtained. Their light curves are analysed using the PERIOD04 software for possible pulsational behaviour. For the systems QY Aql, CZ Aqr, TY Cap, WY Cet, UW Cyg, HL Dra, HZ Dra, AU Lac, CL Lyn and IO UMa, complete light curves were observed due to the detection of a pulsating component. All of them, except QY Aql and IO UMa, are analysed with modern astronomical softwares in order to determine their geometrical and pulsational characteristics. Spectroscopic observations of WY Cet and UW Cyg were…
In-depth analysis of eclipsing binary (EB) observational data collected for several decades can inform us about a lot of astrophysically interesting processes taking place in the systems. We have developed a wide-ranging method for the phenomenological modelling of eclipsing binary phase curves that enables us to combine even very disparate sources of phase information. This approach is appropriate for the processing of both standard photometric series of eclipses and data from photometric surveys of all kind. We conclude that mid-eclipse times, determined using the latest version of our 'hi-f…
When observing the transiting extrasolar planets, we discovered a new W UMa type binary GSC 03553-00845. Following observation was carried out using the 1m telescope at Weihai Observatory of Shandong University. Complete BVR light curves were determined. Using the W-D program, we analyzed the light curves. Photometric solution reveals that GSC 03553-00845 is a W-subtype W UMa type binary with a mass ratio of q=2.904, it is an overcontact binary system by a contact degree of f=29.5% with a small temperature difference between the components (ΔT=206 K indicating a good thermal contact between th…
We present a new period study and light-curve solutions for the A-Type W UMa binary GSC 3208 1986. Contrary to a previous claim by R.G. Samec et al. of a rapidly decreasing period, the system's period is increasing moderately on a timescale of two million years. The light curve is variable on the time scale of years, which can be understood by changes in how much it overfills its Roche lobe.
The Kepler Eclipsing Binary Catalog (KEBC)describes 2165 eclipsing binaries identified in the 115 deg^2 Kepler Field based on observations from Kepler quarters Q0, Q1, and Q2. The periods in the KEBC are given in units of days out to six decimal places but no period errors are provided. We present the PEC (Period Error Calculator) algorithm which can be used to estimate the period errors of strictly periodic variables observed by the Kepler Mission. The PEC algorithm is based on propagation of error theory and assumes that observation of every light curve peak/minimum in a long time-series obs…
In the new era of large-scale astronomical surveys, automated methods of analysis and classification of bulk data are a fundamental tool for fast and efficient production of deliverables. This becomes ever more imminent as we enter the Gaia era. We investigate the potential detectability of eclipsing binaries with Gaia using a data set of all Kepler eclipsing binaries sampled with Gaia cadence and folded with the Kepler period. The performance of fitting methods is evaluated with comparison to real Kepler data parameters and a classification scheme is proposed for the potentially detectable so…
Two sets of photometric observations of the system AH Tauri have been analyzed using the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that AH Tauri may classified as A-type of W-UMa eclipsing binary. The mass ratio of q = 0.81, an over-contact degree of f = 0.095, and a slightly temperature difference between the two components have been obtained. The asymmetry of its light curve explained by the presence of a dark spot on the massive component. The physical, geometrical, and absolute parameters have been derived and compared with previous work.
Context. 65 UMa belongs to rather small group of stellar systems of higher multiplicity, whose inner and outer orbits are well-known. Methods: Photometric, spectroscopic, and interferometric data were analyzed, revealing the basic physical properties of the system 65 UMa. A disentangling technique is used to perform the spectra decomposition. This combined approach allows us to study the long-term period changes in the system, identifying the period variation due to the motion on the visual orbit, in addition to a short-term modulation. Results: We find that the system contains one more compon…
The Kepler Mission has provided unprecedented, nearly continuous photometric data of $\sim$200,000 objects in the $\sim$105 deg$^{2}$ field of view from the beginning of science operations in May of 2009 until the loss of the second reaction wheel in May of 2013. The Kepler Eclipsing Binary Catalog contains information including but not limited to ephemerides, stellar parameters and analytical approximation fits for every known eclipsing binary system in the Kepler Field of View. Using Target Pixel level data collected from Kepler in conjunction with the Kepler Eclipsing Binary Catalog, we ide…
Two sets of multiple-color ($B, V, R_c, I_c$) light curves of PZ UMa were observed in dependently with the 2.4 meter telescope at the Thai National Observatory and the 1 meter telescope at Yunnan Observatories. The light curves were analyzed with the Wilson-Devinney program and the two sets of light curves produced consistent results, which show that PZ UMa is a W-subtype contact binary with an extreme mass ratio ($M_{1}/M_{2} = 0.18)$. The basic physical parameters of PZ UMa were determined to be $M_{2} = 0.77(2)M_\odot$, $M_{1} = 0.14(1)M_\odot$, $R_{2} = 0.92(1)R_\odot$, $R_{1} = 0.43(1)R_\…
The study of W UMa binary systems give a wealth of information about its nature as well as about its parent body (if any), like clusters. In this paper, we present the I passband photometric solutions of four W UMa binaries in the open cluster Berkeley 39 using the latest version of WD program. The result shows that, two binary systems are W subtype W UMa binary systems and another two systems are H subtype W UMa binary systems. No third body is found in any of the four systems. We found a correlation between the period and mass-ratio as well as temperature and mass-ratio for the respective va…
V0842 Cep is a W UMa-type binary star that has been neglected since its discovery. We analysed the VR$_c$I$_c$ light curves, obtained by the 1 m telescope at the Weihai Observatory of Shandong University, using the Wilson-Devinney code. V0842 Cep was found to be a shallow contact binary system (f=8.7$\%$) with a mass ratio of 2.281. Because its orbital inclination is greater than 80$^\circ$, the photometric results are reliable. A period study is included which reveals a continually decreasing orbital period ($\frac{\mathrm{d}p}{\mathrm{d}t}$=1.50($\pm$0.42)$\times$10$^{-7}$dyr$^{-1}$). This t…
The first V Rc Ic bands light curves of MQ UMa are presented and analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) program. It is discovered that MQ UMa is an A-subtype contact binary with a high fill-out (f=82 %) and a low mass ratio (q = 0:195), which indicates that it is in the late evolutionary stage of latetype tidal-locked binary stars. The mass of the primary and secondary stars are estimated and the evolutionary status of the two components are placed in the H-R diagram. The W-D solutions also indicates that MQ UMa may be a triple system with an F5V type additional component. A sample of sixtee…
We report the results of a search for variable stars in the open cluster NGC 2141. Ten variable stars are detected, among which nine are new variable stars and they are classified as three short period W UMa type eclipsing binaries, two EA type eclipsing binaries, one EB type eclipsing binary, one very short period RS CVn type eclipsing binary, one d type RR Lyrae variable star, and one unknown type variable star. The membership and physical properties are discussed, based on their light curves, positions in the CMDs, spatial locations and periods. A known EB type eclipsing binary is also iden…
In our research, we studied 9 eclipsing binary stars: AR Lac, U CrB, S Equ, SU Boo, VV UMa, WW Gem, YY Eri, V0404 Lyr, HP Aur. We collected large sets of moments of minima from BRNO and observational data from AAVSO databases. Then, we obtained moments of minima for AAVSO observations (totally - 397 minima) using method of approximation with symmetric polynomial, realized in software MAVKA. This software was provided by Kateryna D. Andrych and Ivan L. Andronov. After we combined obtained moments of minima with data taken from BRNO and plotted O-C diagrams. For all stars these diagrams represen…
In this paper we analyzed the light curve of the object KIC~3832716 observed during Kepler K1 mission. We showed that this previously known eclipsing binary is in fact quadruple system, in double eclipsing binary configuration on a long period orbit with the mass ratio of eclipsing binaries $0.7 \pm 0.3$. The system consists of eclipsing binary A with the orbital period of $P_A \sim 1.1419$\,d. Eclipsing binary A contains larger but less luminous secondary component in the post main sequence stage of its evolution consistent with an "Algol paradox" which can explain parameters of the component…
Results of the CCD observations of CzeV404 Her are displayed. During the season of June-August 2014 we detected one outburst and one superoutburst of the star. Clear superhumps with the period of P_sh=0.10472(2) days were observed. The superhump period was decreasing with a high value of P_dot=-2.43(8) x 10^(-4). For 17 eclipses, we calculated an orbital period with the value of P_orb=0.0980203(6) days which indicates that CzeV404 Her belongs to period gap objects and it is the longest orbital period eclipsing SU UMa star. Based on superhump and orbital period determinations, the period excess…
Results of the three-colour photoelectric observation of the close binary system RY Sct, obtained at the Abastumani Astrophysical observatory, are presented.
Close detached binaries were theoretically predicted to evolve into contact by three subtypes of case A binary evolution: case AD, AR, and AS, which correspond to the formation of contact during dynamic-, thermal-, and nuclear-timescale mass transfer phase, respectively. It is unclear, however, what is the difference between contact binaries in these subtypes, and whether all of these subtypes can account for the formation of observed W UMa binaries. Using Eggleton's stellar evolution code with the nonconservative assumption, I obtained the low-mass contact binaries produced by case AD, AR, an…
Results of the three-colour photoelectric observation of the close binary system XZ Cep, obtained at the Abastumani Astrophysical observatory, are presented.
Photometric observations of the W UMa binary NSVS 2569022 are presented. The light curve solution reveals that both components are of F spectral type (temperatures $T_1$=$T_2$=6100 K). NSVS 254037 undergoes total eclipse of W subtype and the mass ratio is well-determined. Its exclusive small value of only 0.077 implies that the target probably goes to instability and possible merger. This value ranks NSVS 2569022 in sixth place among the binaries with smallest mass ratio. On the base of empirical relation "period -- total mass" for low mass-ratio binaries we estimated the global parameters of …
We demonstrate the eclipsing binary detection performance of the Gaia variability analysis and processing pipeline using Hipparcos data. The automated pipeline classifies 1,067 (0.9%) of the 118,204 Hipparcos sources as eclipsing binary candidates. The detection rate amounts to 89% (732 sources) in a subset of 819 visually confirmed eclipsing binaries, with the period correctly identified for 80% of them, and double or half periods obtained in 6% of the cases.
We present photometric observations in Sloan filters g', i' of the eclipsing W UMa stars USNO-A2.0 1350-17365531, V471 Cas, V479 Lac and V560 Lac. The sinusoidal-like O-C diagram of V471 Cas shows presence of third body with mass of 0.12 Msun (red dwarf) at distance 897 Rsun. The O-C diagram of V479 Lac reveals period decreasing. The results of the light curve solutions are: (i) The targets are overcontact binaries with small fill-out factors; (ii) Their components are F-K stars, comparable in size, whose temperature differences are below 80 K; (iii) All targets undergo partial eclipses and to…
We present high-resolution Large Binocular Telescope LBTI/LMIRcam images of the spectroscopic and astrometric binary NO UMa obtained as part of the LBTI Exozodi Exoplanet Common Hunt (LEECH) exoplanet imaging survey. Our H, K$_s$, and L'-band observations resolve the system at angular separations <0.09". The components exhibit significant orbital motion over a span of ~7 months. We combine our imaging data with archival images, published speckle interferometry measurements, and existing spectroscopic velocity data to solve the full orbital solution and estimate component masses. The masses of …
