In this contribution, we build up an axiomatic local metric derivative that exhibits the Mittag-Leffler as an eigenfunction and is valid for low-level fractionality, whenever the order parameter is close to $1$. This version of deformed or metric derivative may be a possible alternative to the versions by Jumarie and the inappropriately so-called local fractional derivative also based on the Jumarie's approach. With rules similar to the classical ones, but with a solid axiomatic basis in the limit pointed out here, we present our results and some comments on the limits of validity for the controversial formalism found in the literature of the area.
In this paper we consider the problem of estimation of oscillatory integrals with Mittag-Leffler functions in two variables. The generalisation is that we replace the exponential function with the Mittag-Leffler-type function, to study oscillatory type integrals.
The Mittag-Leffler function plays a role of central importance in the theory of fractional derivatives. In this brief note we discuss the properties of this function and its connection with the Wright-Bessel functions and with a new family of associated heat polynomials.
We present two types of polynomials related to the Mittag-Leffler function namely the fractional Hermite polynomial and the Mittag-Leffler polynomial. The first modifies the Hermite polynomial and the second one is a refashioned Laguerre polynomial. The fractional Hermite and the Mittag-Leffler polynomials are used to solve {the Cauchy problems for} the fractional Fokker-Planck equation where the fractional derivative is taken in the Caputo sense with respect to time and/or space. The generating functions of these two kinds of polynomials are also calculated and they indicate that these polyno…
Using the Bernstein theorem we give a simple proof of the complete monotonicity of the three parameter generalized Mittag-Leffler function $E_{α, β}^γ(-x)$ for $x \geq 0$ and suitably adjusted parameters $α$, $β$ and $γ$
We adopt a procedure of operational-umbral type to solve the $(1+1)$-dimensional fractional Fokker-Planck equation in which time fractional derivative of order $α$ ($0 < α< 1$) is in the Riemann-Liouville sense. The technique we propose merges well documented operational methods to solve ordinary FP equation and a redefinition of the time by means of an umbral operator. We show that the proposed method allows significant progress including the handling of operator ordering.
After sketching the basic principles of renewal theory we discuss the classical Poisson process and offer two other processes, namely the renewal process of Mittag-Leffler type and the renewal process of Wright type, so named by us because special functions of Mittag-Leffler and of Wright type appear in the definition of the relevant waiting times. We compare these three processes with each other, furthermore consider corresponding renewal processes with reward and numerically their long-time behaviour.
This paper deals with the solution of unified fractional reaction-diffusion systems. The results are obtained in compact and elegant forms in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions and generalized Mittag-Leffler functions, which are suitable for numerical computation. On account of the most general character of the derived results, numerous results on fractional reaction, fractional diffusion, and fractional reaction-diffusion problems scattered in the literature, including the recently derived results by the authors for reaction-diffusion models, follow as special cases.
Nowadays, there is a series of complexities in biophysics that require a suitable approach to determine the measurable quantity. In this way, the superstatistics has been an important tool to investigate dynamic aspects of particles, organisms and substances immersed in systems with non-homogeneous temperatures (or diffusivity). The superstatistics admits a general Boltzmann factor that depends on the distribution of intensive parameters $β$ (inverse-diffusivity). Each value of intensive parameter is associated with a local equilibrium in the system. In this work, we investigate the consequenc…
In 1861, Becquerel analyzed the time-resolved luminescence and formulated an empirical hyperbolic-type decay function, which was later named Becquerel decay law. Since then, studies about hyperbolic decays of luminescence have been carried on in different physical contexts. In this paper we generalize the Becquerel decay law by using a Mittag-Leffler function with a logarithmic argument, and discuss its physical interpretation in light of recently published results.
The properties of Mittag-Leffler function is reviewed within the framework of an umbral formalism. We take advantage from the formal equivalence with the exponential function to define the relevant semigroup properties. We analyse the relevant role in the solution of Schrödinger type and heat-type fractional partial differential equations and explore the problem of operatorial ordering finding appropriate rules when non-commuting operators are involved. We discuss the coherent states associated with the fractional Schödinger equation, analyze the relevant Poisson type probability amplitude and…
In the present contribution, we study the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation with two versions of structural derivatives recently proposed: the scale $q-$derivative in the non-extensive statistical mechanics and the axiomatic metric derivative, which presents Mittag-Leffler functions as eigenfunctions. The use of structural derivatives aims to take into account long-range forces, possible non-manifest or hidden interactions and the dimensionality of space. Having this purpose in mind, we build up an evolution operator and a deformed version of the LLG equation. Damping in the oscillations natura…
The Prabhakar function (namely, a three parameter Mittag-Leffler function) is investigated. This function plays a fundamental role in the description of the anomalous dielectric properties in disordered materials and heterogeneous systems manifesting simultaneous nonlocality and nonlinearity and, more generally, in models of Havriliak-Negami type. After reviewing some of the main properties of the function, the asymptotic expansion for large arguments is investigated in the whole complex plane and, with major emphasis, along the negative semi-axis. Fractional integral and derivative operators …
We revisit the Mittag-Leffler functions of a real variable $t$, with one, two and three order-parameters $\{α, β, γ\}$, as far as their Laplace transform pairs and complete monotonicty properties are concerned. These functions, subjected to the requirement to be completely monotone for $t>0$, are shown to be suitable models for non--Debye relaxation phenomena in dielectrics including as particular cases the classical models referred to as Cole-Cole, Davidson-Cole and Havriliak-Negami. We show 3D plots of the response functions and of the corresponding spectral distributions, keeping fixed one …
The main purpose of this note is to point out the relevance of the Mittag-Leffler probability distribution in the so-called thinning theory for a renewal process with a queue of power law type. This theory, formerly considered by Gnedenko and Kovalenko in 1968 without the explicit reference to the Mittag-Leffler function, was used by the authors in the theory of continuous random walk and consequently of fractional diffusion in a plenary lecture by the late Prof Gorenflo at a Seminar on Anomalous Transport held in Bad-Honnef in July 2006, published in a 2008 book. After recalling the basic the…
In this paper we consider space-time fractional telegraph equations, where the time derivatives are intended in the sense of Hilfer and Hadamard while the space fractional derivatives are meant in the sense of Riesz-Feller. We provide the Fourier transforms of the solutions of some Cauchy problems for these fractional equations. Probabilistic interpretations of some specific cases are also provided.
We show the asymptotic long-time equivalence of a generic power law waiting time distribution to the Mittag-Leffler waiting time distribution, characteristic for a time fractional CTRW. This asymptotic equivalence is effected by a combination of "rescaling" time and "respeeding" the relevant renewal process followed by a passage to a limit for which we need a suitable relation between the parameters of rescaling and respeeding. Turning our attention to spatially 1-D CTRWs with a generic power law jump distribution, "rescaling" space can be interpreted as a second kind of "respeeding" which the…
In this paper, the generalized fractional integral operators of two generalized Mittag-Leffler type functions are investigated. The special cases of interest involve the generalized Fox--Wright function and the generalized M-series and K-function. In the next Section 2 we first recall some generalized fractional integral operators among the most widely used in fractional calculus. Section 3 is devoted to the definitions of M-series and K-function and their relations to special functions. In Sections 4 and 5, effective fractional calculus of the generalized M-series and the K-function is carrie…
The aim of this paper is to investigate the asymptotic behavior of the so-called elephant random walk with stops (ERWS). In contrast with the standard elephant random walk, the elephant is allowed to be lazy by staying on his own position. We prove that the number of ones of the ERWS, properly normalized, converges almost surely to a Mittag-Leffler distribution. It allows us to carry out a sharp analysis on the asymptotic behavior of the ERWS. In the diffusive and critical regimes, we establish the almost sure convergence of the ERWS. We also show that it is necessary to self-normalized the po…
