We analyze the Large Hadron Collider sensitivity to new pseudoscalar resonances decaying into diphoton with masses up to scales of few TeVs. We focus on minimal scenarios where the production mechanisms involve either photon or top-mediated gluon fusion, partially motivated by the tantalizing excess around 750 GeV reported by ATLAS and CMS. The two scenarios lead respectively to a narrow and a wide resonance. We first provide a model-independent analysis via effective operators and then introduce minimal models of composite dynamics where the diphoton channel is characterized by their topological sector. The relevant state here is the pseudoscalar associated with the axial anomaly of the new composite dynamics. If the Standard Model top mass is generated via four-fermion operators the coupling of this state to the top remarkably explains the wide-width resonance reported by ATLAS. Beyond the excess, our analysis paves the way to test dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking via topological sectors.
ATLAS and CMS observe deviations from the expected background in the diphoton invariant mass searches of new resonances around 750 GeV. We show that a simple realization in terms of a new pseudoscalar state can accommodate the observations. The model leads to further footprints that can be soon observed. The new state can be interpreted both as an axion or as a {highly natural} composite state arising from minimal models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. We further show how to disentangle the two scenarios. Beyond the possible explanation of the diphoton excess the results show that …
The diphoton excesses at 750 GeV seen in the LHC data may be the first hint for new physics at the TeV scale. We discuss variations of the model considered earlier, in which one or more diphoton excesses arise from composite pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons (hidden pions) associated with new strong dynamics at the TeV scale. We study the case in which the 750 GeV excess arises from a unique hidden pion leading to a diphoton final state as well as the case in which it arises from one of the hidden pions decaying into diphotons. We consider SU(N), SO(N), and Sp(N) gauge groups for the strong dynami…
We present a full next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to diphoton production at the hadron colliders in both standard model and ADD model. The invariant mass and rapidity distributions of the diphotons are obtained using a semi-analytical two cut-off phase space slicing method which allows for a successful numerical implementation of various kinematical cuts used in the experiments. The fragmentation photons are systematically removed using smooth-cone-isolation cuts on the photons. The NLO QCD corrections not only stabilise the perturbative predictions but also enhance the production …
The ATLAS and CMS groups have recently reported an excess at around 750 GeV with the local significance by about 3 sigma in the diphoton channel at the 13 TeV LHC. We give a possible explanation for the excess by a composite pseudo scalar $(P^0)$ predicted in the one-family model of walking technicolor.
We explore the Higgs couplings to gauge bosons in the minimal $SO(5)/SO(4)$ 4D composite Higgs model. The pions scatterings put unitary constraints on the couplings and therefore determine the branch ratios of various Higgs decays. Through fine tuning the parameters, enhancement of Higgs to diphoton rate is possible to be achieved with the existence of vector meson fields.
We compute the next-to-leading order corrections in $α_s$ to prompt diphoton production in association with a jet at hadron colliders. We use a next-to-leading order general-purpose partonic Monte Carlo event generator that allows the computation of a rate differential in the produced photons and hadrons.
The ATLAS and CMS experiments at LHC observe small excesses of diphoton events with invariant mass around 750 GeV. Here we study the possibility of nearly parity degenerate and vector-scalar degenerate spectra as well as composite dynamics in 2 scenarios for explaining the excess: Production of a pseudo-scalar via gluon or photon fusion or via decay of a parent particle together with soft additional final states. We discuss possible underlying realizations of the scenarios motivated by dynamical models of electroweak symmetry breaking (without new coloured states) and fermion masses.
We present a QCD calculation of the transverse momentum distribution of photon pairs produced at hadron colliders, including all-orders soft-gluon resummation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We specify the region of phase space in which the calculation is most reliable, compare our results with data from the Fermilab Tevatron, and make predictions for the Large Hadron Collider. The uncertainty of predictions for production of diphotons from fragmentation of final-state quarks is examined.
A radion in a scenario with a warped extra dimension can be lighter than the Higgs boson, even if the Kaluza-Klein excitation modes of the graviton turn out to be in the multi-TeV region. The discovery of such a light radion would be gateway to new physics. We show how the two-photon mode of decay can enable us to probe a radion in the mass range 60 - 110 GeV. We take into account the diphoton background, including fragmentation effects, and include cuts designed to suppress the background to the maximum possible extent. Our conclusion is that, with an integrated luminosity of 3000 $\rm fb^{-1…
In this note, I will review the opportunities offered by the hint of a new resonance observed at LHC for future e+e- TeV linear collider (LC) projects. This discussion is mainly influenced by two specific scenarios of physics which assume either a (pseudo-)scalar or a tensor resonance, but these estimates can be used in most scenarios. I envisage either a photon collider, which has a guaranteed signal with the LHC observation, or a standard e+e- collider, more straightforward to implement. After a detailed study of the heavy graviton scenario, I conclude that at a TeV LC, high accuracy measure…
We study a simple model in which the recently reported 750 GeV diphoton excess arises from a composite pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson---hidden pion---produced by gluon fusion and decaying into two photons. The model only introduces an extra hidden gauge group at the TeV scale with a vectorlike quark in the bifundamental representation of the hidden and standard model gauge groups. We calculate the masses of all the hidden pions and analyze their experimental signatures and constraints. We find that two colored hidden pions must be near the current experimental limits, and hence are probed in the…
The sensitivities to anomalous quartic photon couplings at the Large Hadron Collider are estimated using diphoton production via photon fusion. The tagging of the protons proves to be a very powerful tool to suppress the background and unprecedented sensitivities down to $6 \cdot 10^{-15}$\gev$^{-4}$ are obtained, providing a new window on extra dimensions and strongly-interacting composite states in the multi-TeV range. Generic contributions to quartic photon couplings from charged and neutral particles with arbitrary spin are also presented.
Virtual effects of gravitons in the production of diphotons at the upgraded Tevatron and at the LHC are analysed with the idea of probing the parameter space of the Randall-Sundrum (RS) model. It is shown that this process yields stringent constraints on the parameter space of the RS model. We show that data on diphoton production from Tevatron Run II will be sensitive to a masses of the first graviton resonance in the range of 700-1150 GeV, while at LHC the mass range probed will be in the region of 3.5 -- 5.5 TeV.
A colored heavy particle with sufficiently small width may form non-relativistic bound states when they are produced at the large hadron collider\,(LHC), and they can annihilate into a diphoton final state. The invariant mass of the diphoton would be around twice of the colored particle mass. In this paper, we study if such bound state can be responsible for the 750 GeV diphoton excess reported by ATLAS and CMS. We found that the best-fit signal cross section is obtained for the SU(2)$_L$ singlet colored fermion $X$ with $Y_X=4/3$. Having such an exotic hypercharge, the particle is expected to…
In Little Randall-Sundrum models, the bulk couplings of the radion to massless gauge fields can yield a greatly enhanced diphoton signal at hadron colliders. We examine the implications of the Tevatron data for the Little radion and also show that the 7 TeV run at the Large Hadron Collider will have an impressive reach in this channel. The diphoton signal is crucial in the search for a light radion, or the dual dilaton, and can potentially probe the ultraviolet scale of the theory.
We compute the contributions to continuum photon pair production at hadron colliders from processes initiated by gluon-gluon and gluon-quark scattering into two photons through a four-leg virtual quark loop. Complete two-loop cross sections in perturbative quantum chromodynamics are combined with contributions from soft parton radiation resummed to all orders in the strong coupling strength. The structure of the resummed cross section is examined in detail, including a new type of unintegrated parton distribution function affecting azimuthal angle distributions of photons in the pair's rest fr…
If the lighter top squark has no kinematically allowed two-body decays that conserve flavor, then it will form hadronic bound states. This is required in models that are motivated by the supersymmetric little hierarchy problem and obtain the correct thermal relic abundance of dark matter by top-squark-mediated neutralino annihilations, or by top-squark-neutralino co-annihilations. It is also found in models that can accommodate electroweak-scale baryogenesis within minimal supersymmetry. I study the prospects for detecting scalar stoponium from its diphoton decay mode at the Large Hadron Colli…
We present an analytic computation of the gluon-initiated contribution to diphoton plus jet production at hadron colliders up to two loops in QCD. We reconstruct the analytic form of the finite remainders from numerical evaluations over finite fields including all colour contributions. Compact expressions are found using the pentagon function basis. We provide a fast and stable implementation for the colour- and helicity-summed interference between the one-loop and two-loop finite remainders in C++ as part of the NJet library.
We explore the capability of the Tevatron and LHC to place limits on the possible existence of flavor-independent $q \bar q γγ$ contact interactions which can lead to an excess of diphoton events with large invariant masses. Assuming no departure from the Standard Model is observed, we show that the Tevatron will eventually be able to place a lower bound of 0.5-0.6 TeV on the scale associated with this new contact interaction. At the LHC, scales as large as 3-6 TeV may be probed with suitable detector cuts and an integrated luminosity of $100 fb^{-1}$.
We consider direct diphoton production in hadron collisions, and we compute the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD radiative corrections at the fully-differential level. Our calculation uses the $q_T$ subtraction formalism and it is implemented in a parton level Monte Carlo program. The program allows the user to apply arbitrary kinematical cuts on the final-state photons and the associated jet activity, and to compute the corresponding distributions in the form of bin histograms. We present selected numerical results related to Higgs boson searches at the LHC and corresponding results a…
In the E6 inspired composite Higgs model (E6CHM) the strongly interacting sector possesses an SU(6)\times U(1)_B\times U(1)_L global symmetry. Near scale f\gtrsim 10 TeV the SU(6) symmetry is broken down to its SU(5) subgroup, that involves the standard model (SM) gauge group. This breakdown of SU(6) leads to a set of pseudo--Nambu--Goldstone bosons (pNGBs) including a SM--like Higgs and a SM singlet pseudoscalar A. Because of the interactions between A and exotic fermions, which ensure the approximate unification of the SM gauge couplings and anomaly cancellation in this model, the couplings …
We discuss the collider phenomenology of Universal Extra Dimension models with gravity mediated decays. We concentrate on diphoton associated with large missing transverse energy signature. At the collider, level-1 Kaluza-Klein (KK) particles are produced in pairs due to the conservation of KK-parity. Subsequently, KK-particles decay via cascades involving lighter KK-particles until reaching the lightest KK-particle (LKP). Finally, gravity induced decay of the LKP into photons gives rise to the diphoton signature. The search for diphoton events with large missing transverse energy was recently…
Motivated by excess diphoton events reported by ATLAS and CMS, we show that composite pseudoscalars, bound states of heavy fermions under a new confining gauge theory, can be pair-produced by Drell-Yan production if the constituent particles are electrically charged. The decays of these pion-like bound states into two photons can explain the observed events near 750 GeV. The model predicts that there should be significant numbers of 4-photon events from decays of the pseudoscalar pairs, as well as same-sign dilepton pairs at a somewhat lower invariant mass, or multijet signals, coming from dec…
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations recently reported a mild excess in the diphoton final state pointing to a resonance with a mass of around 750 GeV and a potentially large width. We consider the possibility of a scalar resonance being produced via gluon fusion and decaying to electroweak gauge bosons, jets and pairs of invisible particles, stable at collider scales. We compute limits from monojet searches on such a resonance and test their compatibility with the requirement for a large width. We also study whether the stable particle can be a a dark matter candidate and investigate the correspo…
We review the current status of searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model in the diphoton channel at the LHC and estimate the reach with future collected data. We perform a model independent analysis based on an effective field theory approach and different production mechanisms. As an illustrative example, we apply our results to a scenario of minimal composite dynamics.
We consider the transverse-momentum (qT) distribution of a diphoton pair produced in hadron collisions. At small values of qT , we resum the logarithmically-enhanced perturbative QCD contributions up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. At intermediate and large values of qT, we consistently combine resummation with the known next-to-leading order perturbative result. All perturbative terms up to order α_S^2 are included in our computation which, after integration over qT, reproduces the known next-to-next-to-leading order result for the diphoton pair production total cross section…
In the model of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali where gravity is allowed to propagate in the extra dimensions of very large size, virtual graviton exchange between the standard model particles can give rise to signatures that can be tested in collider experiments. We study these effects in dilepton and diphoton production at hadron colliders. Specifically, we examine the double differential cross-section in the invariant mass and scattering angle, which is found to be useful in separating the gravity effects from the standard model. In this work, sensitivity obtained using the double diffe…

Machine learning technology has the potential to dramatically optimise event generation and simulations. We continue to investigate the use of neural networks to approximate matrix elements for high-multiplicity scattering processes. We focus on the case of loop-induced diphoton production through gluon fusion and develop a realistic simulation method that can be applied to hadron collider observables. Neural networks are trained using the one-loop amplitudes implemented in the NJet C++ library and interfaced to the Sherpa Monte Carlo event generator where we perform a detailed study for $2\to…
In scenarios of strongly coupled electroweak symmetry breaking, heavy composite particles of different spin and parity may arise and cause observable effects on signals that appear at loop levels. The recently observed process of Higgs to $γγ$ at the LHC is one of such signals. We study the new constraints that are imposed on composite models from $H\to γγ$, together with the existing constraints from the high precision electroweak tests. We use an effective chiral Lagrangian to describe the effective theory that contains the Standard Model spectrum and the extra composites below the electrowe…
We compute the one-loop corrections to $σ(e^+ e^- \to Z h)$ arising from representative extended Standard Model scalar sector scenarios. According to the new scalar $\mathrm{SU(2)_L}$ representations, we consider the inert doublet, real and complex triplet, quintuplet, and septuplet models. With the sub-percent level precision expected for prospective future $e+e-$ collider measurements of $σ(e^+ e^- \to Z h)$, studies of the Higgsstrahlung process will probe extended scalar sector particle spectrum and interactions in a manner complementary to direct searches at the Large Hadron Collider and …
Diphoton resonance was a crucial discovery mode for the 125 GeV SM Higgs boson at the LHC. This mode or the more general diboson modes may also play an important role in probing for new physics beyond the SM. In this paper, we consider the possibility that a diphoton resonance is due to a composite (pseudo)scalar boson, whose constituents are either new hyperquarks Q or scalar hyperquarks tilde{Q} confined by a new hypercolor force at a confinement scale Lambda_h. Assuming the mass m_Q (or m_{tilde Q}) >> Lambda_h, a diphoton resonance could be interpreted as either a Q bar{Q} state eta_Q with…
We propose a new model for explaining the diphoton excess observed at the LHC. The uniqueness of our model is that this excess is being produced by photon-photon induced sub-process. The model includes an isospin $3/2$ scalar multiplet (having triply, doubly and singly charged scalars) at the electroweak (EW) scale to explain the observed neutrino masses via the effective dimension $7$ operator. The model also include a singlet scalar which is the di-photon resonance. The loop induced coupling of the singlet scalar with a pair of photons is enhanced due to contributions from multi-charged EW-s…
We propose that the 750 GeV resonance, presumably observed in the early LHC Run 2 data, could be a heavy composite axion that results from condensation of a hypothetical quark in a high-colour representation of conventional QCD. The model, motivated by a recently proposed solution to the strong CP problem, is very economical and is essentially defined by the properties of the additional quark - its colour charge, hypercharge and mass. The axion mass and its coupling to two photons (via axial anomaly) can be computed in terms of these parameters. The axion is predominantly produced via photon f…
Recently, the LHC collaborations, ATLAS and CMS, have announced an excess in the diphoton channel with local significance of about $3\,σ$ around an invariant mass distribution of $\sim 750$ GeV, after analyzing new data collected at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s} = 13~{\rm TeV}$. We present a possible physical interpretation of such a signature, within the framework of a minimal UV-complete model with a massive singlet pseudo-scalar state $a$ that couples to a new TeV-scale coloured vector-like fermion $F$, whose hypercharge quantum number is a non-zero integer. The pseudo-scalar state $…

In this short note, we revisit the model of a CP-even singlet scalar resonance proposed in arXiv:1507.02483, where the resonance appears as the lightest composite state made of scalar quarks participating in hidden strong dynamics. We show that the model can consistently explain the excess of diphoton events with an invariant mass around 750GeV reported by both the ATLAS and CMS experiments. We also discuss the nature of the charged composite states in the TeV range which accompany to the neutral scalar. Due to inseparability of the dynamical scale and the mass of the resonance, the model also…
We show that the 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained by introducing vector-like quarks and hidden fermions charged under a hidden U(1) gauge symmetry, which has a relatively large coupling constant as well as a significant kinetic mixing with U(1)$_Y$. With the large kinetic mixing, the standard model gauge couplings unify around $10^{17}$ GeV, suggesting the grand unified theory without too rapid proton decay. Our scenario predicts events with a photon and missing transverse momentum, and its cross section is related to that for the diphoton excess through the kinetic mixing. We also dis…
Motivated by the 750 GeV diphoton excess found at LHC, we compute the maximal width into $γγ$ that a neutral scalar can acquire through a loop of charged fermions or scalars as function of the maximal scale at which the theory holds, taking into account vacuum (meta)stability bounds. We show how an extra gauge symmetry can qualitatively weaken such bounds, and explore collider probes and connections with Dark Matter.
We consider the possibility that the recently observed excess in the diphoton invariant mass spectrum around 750 GeV is due to two narrow scalars. We demonstrate that there is no need to introduce invisible decay modes to enlarge the widths as long as the two scalars exhibit an appropriate mass splitting. Nevertheless we investigate the possible connection of these two scalars to the dark matter in a toy model with a Majorana fermionic dark matter candidate. We explore how large the widths of the two scalar widths could be taking into account various constraints from collider and dark matter e…
We show that weak scale vector-like fermions with order one couplings to the Higgs can lead to a novel mechanism for a strongly first-order electroweak phase transition (EWPhT), through their tendency to drive the Higgs quartic coupling negative. These same fermions could also enhance the loop-induced branching fraction of the Higgs into two photons, as suggested by the recent discovery of a ~125 GeV Higgs-like state at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Our results suggest that measurements of the diphoton decay rate of the Higgs and its self coupling, at the LHC or perhaps at a future lep…
A fully differential calculation in perturbative quantum chromodynamics is presented for the production of massive photon pairs at hadron colliders. All next-to-leading order perturbative contributions from quark-antiquark, gluon-(anti)quark, and gluon-gluon subprocesses are included, as well as all-orders resummation of initial-state gluon radiation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. The region of phase space is specified in which the calculation is most reliable. Good agreement is demonstrated with data from the Fermilab Tevatron, and predictions are made for more detaile…
A framework is proposed to describe resonant diphoton phenomenology at hadron colliders in full generality. It can be employed for a comprehensive model-independent interpretation of the experimental data. Within the general framework, few benchmark scenarios are defined as representative of the various phenomenological options and/or of motivated new physics scenarios. Their usage is illustrated by performing a characterization of the 750 GeV excess, based on a recast of available experimental results. We also perform an assessment of which properties of the resonance could be inferred, after…
We have studied the Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode contributions to the diphoton decay of Higgs boson through the gluon fusion at LHC in a five dimensional $SU(3) times U(1)'$ gauge-Higgs unification (GHU) model. The minimal matter content case is found that the diphoton decay is necessarily destructive comparing to the Standard Model (SM) prediction, which is unfortunately not supported by the current experimental data. Two extensions are considered to not only enhance the diphoton decay but also realize an observed Higgs mass. The $Z gamma$ decay of Higgs boson is also studied and the striking resul…
We present bounds on all the known universal extra dimension models from the latest Higgs search data at the Large Hadron Collider, taking into account the Kaluza-Klein (KK) loop effects on the dominant gluon-fusion production and on the diphoton/digluon decay. The lower bound on the KK scale is from 500GeV to 1TeV depending on the model. We find that the Higgs production cross section with subsequent diphoton decay can be enhanced by a factor 1.5 within this experimental bound, with little dependence on the Higgs mass in between 115GeV and 130GeV. We also show that in such a case the Higgs de…
We study the conditions for a new scalar resonance to be observed first in diphotons at the LHC Run-2. We focus on scenarios where the scalar arises either from an internal or spacetime symmetry broken spontaneously, for which the mass is naturally below the cutoff and the low-energy interactions are fixed by the couplings to the broken currents, UV anomalies, and selection rules. We discuss the recent excess in diphoton resonance searches observed by ATLAS and CMS at 750 GeV, and explore its compatibility with other searches at Run-1 and its interpretation as Goldstone bosons in supersymmetry…
We calculate the $gg\toγγ$ amplitude by including the $t\bar t$ bound-state effects near their mass threshold. In terms of the non-relativistic expansion of the amplitude, the LO contribution is an energy-independent term in the one-loop amplitude. We include the NLO contribution described by the non-relativistic Green function and part of the NNLO contribution. Despite a missing NLO piece which can be accomplished with the two-loop-level amplitude via massive quarks, the shape of the diphoton mass spectrum is predicted with a good accuracy. Thanks to the simple and clean nature of the observa…
Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of interest since Dirac established the relation between the existence of monopoles and charge quantization. The intense experimental search carried thus far has not met with success. The Large Hadron Collider is reaching energies never achieved before allowing the search for exotic particles in the TeV mass range. In a continuing effort to discover these rare particles we propose here other ways to detect them. We study the observability of monopoles and monopolium, a monopole-antimonopole bound state, at the Large Hadron Collider in the $γγ$ channel for…
The top/bottom seesaw model, which extends the top seesaw in order to accomodate a 125 GeV Higgs boson, predicts vector-like top/bottom partners and these partners can be bounded to form several neutral and charged singlet composite scalars by some new strong dynamics. In this letter, we use such a singlet scalar to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton reseanance. This singlet scalar is dominantly produced through the gluon fusion process induced by the partners and its diphoton decay is induced by both the partners and the charged singlet scalars. We show that this scenario can readily account for …
We propose that the SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1) (aka G221) models could provide us a 750 GeV scalar resonance that may account for the diphoton excess observed at the LHC while satisfying present collider constraints. The neutral component of the $SU(2)_R$ scalar multiplet can be identified as the 750 GeV scalar. In the lepto-phobic and fermio-phobic G221 models the new charged gauge boson W' could be light, and we find that the diphoton decay width could be dominated by the loop contribution from the $W'$. To initiate gluon fusion production, it is necessary to extend the G221 symmetry to the Pati-S…
Composite Higgs Models are very appealing candidates for a natural realization of electroweak symmetry breaking. Non minimal models could explain the recent Higgs data from ATLAS, CMS and Tevatron experiments, including the excess in the amount of diphoton events, as well as provide a natural dark matter candidate. In this article, we study a Composite Higgs model based on the coset $SO(7)/G2$. In addition to the Higgs doublet, one $SU(2)_L$ singlet of electric charge one, $κ^\pm$, as well as one singlet $η$ of the whole Standard Model group arise as pseudo-Goldstone bosons. $κ^\pm$ and $η$ ca…
We study the implications of the LHC diphoton and Z+photon Higgs signals on the Higgs triplet model with Y=0. We discuss three different scenarios: (i) the observed boson is the light Higgs boson $h$; (ii) it is the heavy Higgs boson $H$; (iii) the observed signal is from the almost degenerate $h$ and $H$. We find that the inclusive Higgs diphoton rates in the first two scenarios can be enhanced or suppressed compared to the SM value, which can respectively fit the ATLAS and CMS diphoton data within $1σ$ range. The inclusive $ZZ^*$ rates are suppressed, which are outside $1σ$ range of ATLAS da…
Motivated by the recently reported diphoton resonance at 750 GeV, we study a new axion-like bosonic portal model of dark matter physics. When the resonance particle is identified as the pseudo-scalar mediator, via which the standard model sector would interact with the dark matter sector, the data from collider physics would provide profound implications to dark matter phenomenology. In this paper, we first identify the preferred parameter space of the suggested portal model from the results of the LHC run with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, and then we examine the dark matter signature taking into accoun…
If the lighter top squark has no kinematically allowed two-body decays that conserve flavor, then it will live long enough to form hadronic bound states. The observation of the diphoton decays of stoponium could then provide a uniquely precise measurement of the top squark mass. In this paper, we calculate the cross section for the production of stoponium in a hadron collider at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. We present numerical results for the cross section for production of stoponium at the LHC and study the dependence on beam energy, stoponium mass, and the renormalization and factori…
We discuss an extended scalar model which explains the recent results of diphoton excess at 750 GeV at LHC Run II experiments. An additional singlet scalar boson with the mass of 750 GeV, which couples to top quarks via a dimension five operator, is produced via gluon fusion and decays into two photons via loop contributions of a number of (multiply) charged scalar bosons. Origin of such a dimension five operator would be, for example, in the context of composite Higgs models. The excess can be explained without contradicting the data from LHC Run I and also theoretical consistencies such as p…
We propose a simplified model to study the possible new heavy diphoton resonance from cascade decay of a heavier particle at colliders, which may be related to the dark matter or other new physics beyond the standard model. Model-independent constraints and predictions on the allowed couplings for generating the observed diphoton data are studied in detail. We demonstrate that this scenario can be tested by the possible four-photon signal or the $WW/ZZ/Zγ$ resonances. Meanwhile, this cascade decay scenario also provides us with the dark matter candidates, which is consistent with the observed …
