In this paper, we prove a central limit theorem and establish a moderate deviation principle for 2D stochastic hydrodynamical type systems with multiplicative noise in unbounded domains, which covers 2D Navier-Stokes equations, 2D MHD models and the 2D magnetic B?enard problem and also shell models of turbulence. The weak convergence method plays an important role in obtaining the moderate deviation principle.
We consider a two dimensional reflecting random walk on the nonnegative integer quadrant. This random walk is assumed to be skip free in the direction to the boundary of the quadrant, but may have unbounded jumps in the opposite direction, which are referred to as upward jumps. We are interested in the tail asymptotic behavior of its stationary distribution, provided it exists. Assuming the upward jump size distributions have light tails, we completely find the rough tail asymptotics of the marginal stationary distributions in all directions. This generalizes the corresponding results for the …
In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of maximal strong (in PDE sense) solution to several stochastic hydrodynamical systems on unbounded and bounded domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n=2,3$. This maximal solution turns out to be a global one in the case of 2D stochastic hydrodynamical systems. Our framework is general in the sense that it allows us to solve the Navier-Stokes equations, MHD equations, Magnetic Bénard problems, Boussinesq model of the Bénard convection, Shell models of turbulence and the Leray-$α$ model with jump type perturbation. Our goal is achieved by proving genera…
Here we obtain the exact asymptotics for large and moderate deviations, strong law of large numbers and central limit theorem for chains with unbounded variable length memory.
We study the problem of predicting the results of computations that are too expensive to run, via the observation of the results of smaller computations. We model this as an online learning problem with delayed feedback, where the length of the delay is unbounded, which we study mainly in a stochastic setting. We show that in this setting, consistency is not possible in general, and that optimal forecasters might not have average regret going to zero. However, it is still possible to give algorithms that converge asymptotically to Bayes-optimal predictions, by evaluating forecasters on specifi…
The asymptotically autonomous robustness of random attractors of stochastic fluid equations defined on \emph{bounded} domains has been considered in the literature. In this article, we initially consider this topic (almost surely and in probability) for a non-autonomous stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equation driven by additive and multiplicative noise defined on some \emph{unbounded Poincaré domains}. There are two significant keys to study this topic: what is the asymptotically autonomous limiting set of the time-section of random attractors as time goes to negative infinity, and how to show th…

Given a large sample covariance matrix $S_N=\frac 1nΓ_N^{1/2}Z_N Z_N^*Γ_N^{1/2}\, ,$ where $Z_N$ is a $N\times n$ matrix with i.i.d. centered entries, and $Γ_N$ is a $N\times N$ deterministic Hermitian positive semidefinite matrix, we study the location and fluctuations of $λ_{\max}(S_N)$, the largest eigenvalue of $S_N$ as $N,n\to\infty$ and $Nn^{-1} \to r\in(0,\infty)$ in the case where the empirical distribution $μ^{Γ_N}$ of eigenvalues of $Γ_N$ is tight (in $N$) and $λ_{\max}(Γ_N)$ goes to $+\infty$. These conditions are in particular met when $μ^{Γ_N}$ weakly converges to a probability me…
We show that the stochastic flow generated by the Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations in a 2-dimensional Poincaré domain has a unique random attractor. This result complements a recent result by Brzeźniak and Li [10] who showed that the flow is asymptotically compact and generalizes a recent result by Caraballo et al. [12] who proved existence of a unique pullback attractor for the time-dependent deterministic Navier-Stokes equations in a 2-dimensional Poincaré domain.
In this paper, we establish a small time large deviation principle for the strong solution of 3D stochastic primitive equations driven by multiplicative noise. Both the small noise and the small, but highly nonlinear, unbounded nonlinear terms should be taken into consideration.
In this paper non-asymptotic exact rearrangement invariant norm estimates are derived for the maximum distribution of the family elements of some rearrangement invariant (r.i.) space over unbounded measure in the entropy terms and in the terms of generic chaining. We consider some applications in the martingale theory and in the theory of Fourier series.
We study stochastic billiards in infinite planar domains with curvilinear boundaries: that is, piecewise deterministic motion with randomness introduced via random reflections at the domain boundary. Physical motivation for the process originates with ideal gas models in the Knudsen regime, with particles reflecting off microscopically rough surfaces. We classify the process into recurrent and transient cases. We also give almost-sure results on the long-term behaviour of the location of the particle, including a super-diffusive rate of escape in the transient case. A key step in obtaining our…
We consider the weakly asymmetric exclusion process on the $d$-dimensional torus. We prove a large deviations principle for the time averaged empirical density and current in the joint limit in which both the time interval and the number of particles diverge. This result is obtained both by analyzing the variational convergence, as the number of particles diverges, of the Donsker-Varadhan functional for the empirical process and by considering the large time behavior of the hydrodynamical rate function. The large deviations asymptotic of the time averaged current is then deduced by contraction…
We establish an asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalue counting function of the Schrödinger operator $-Δ+V$ for some unbounded potentials $V$ on several types of unbounded fractal spaces. We give sufficient conditions for Bohr's formula to hold on metric measure spaces which admit a cellular decomposition, and then verify these conditions for fractafolds and fractal fields based on nested fractals. In particular, we partially answer a question of Fan, Khandker, and Strichartz regarding the spectral asymptotics of the harmonic oscillator potential on the infinite blow-up of a Sierpinski gasket.
We consider a collection of Markov chains that model the evolution of multitype biological populations. The state space of the chains is the positive orthant, and the boundary of the orthant is absorbing representing the extinction states of different population types. We are interested in the long-term behavior of the Markov chain away from extinction, under a small noise scaling. Under this scaling, the trajectory of the Markov process over any compact interval converges in distribution to the solution of an ordinary differential equation (ODE) evolving in the positive orthant. We study the …
We study asymptotics of the free energy for the directed polymer in random environment. The polymer is allowed to make unbounded jumps and the environment is given by Bernoulli variables. We first establish the existence and continuity of the free energy including the negative infinity value of the coupling constant $β$. Our proof of existence at $β=-\infty$ differs from existing ones in that it avoids the direct use of subadditivity. Secondly, we identify the asymptotics of the free energy at $β=-\infty$ in the limit of the success probability of the Bernoulli variables tending to one. It is …
The asymptotic behavior of solutions of two dimensional stochastic convective Brinkman-Forchheimer (2D SCBF) equations in unbounded domains is discussed in this work (for example, Poincaré domains). We first prove the existence of $\mathbb{H}^1$-random attractors for the stochastic flow generated by 2D SCBF equations (for the absorption exponent $r\in[1,3]$) perturbed by an additive noise on Poincaré domains. Furthermore, we deduce the existence of a unique invariant measure in $\mathbb{H}^1$ for the 2D SCBF equations defined on Poincaré domains. In addition, a remark on the extension of these…
We consider a second order differential operator $\mathscr{A}$ on an (typically unbounded) open and Dirichlet regular set $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ and subject to nonlocal Dirichlet boundary conditions of the form \[ u(z) = \int_Ωu(x)μ(z, dx) \quad \mbox{ for } z\in \partial Ω. \] Here, $μ: \partialΩ\to \mathscr{M}(Ω)$ is a $σ(\mathscr{M}(Ω), C_b(Ω))$-continuous map taking values in the probability measures on $Ω$. Under suitable assumptions on the coefficients in $\mathscr{A}$, which may be unbounded, we prove that a realization $A_μ$ of $\mathscr{A}$ subject to the nonlocal boundary condition,…
The ergodic properties of the randomly forced Navier-Stokes system have been extensively studied in the literature during the last two decades. The problem has always been considered in bounded domains, in order to have, for example, suitable spectral properties for the Stokes operator, to ensure some compactness properties for the resolving operator of the system and the associated functional spaces, etc. In the present paper, we consider the Navier-Stokes system in an unbounded domain satisfying the Poincaré inequality. Assuming that the system is perturbed by a bounded non-degenerate noise,…
Under the high-dimensional setting that data dimension and sample size tend to infinity proportionally, we derive the central limit theorem (CLT) for linear spectral statistics (LSS) of large-dimensional sample covariance matrix. Different from existing literature, our results do not require the assumption that the population covariance matrices are bounded. Moreover, many common kernel functions in the real data such as logarithmic functions and polynomial functions are allowed in this paper. In our model, the number of spiked eigenvalues can be fixed or tend to infinity. One salient feature …
