The paper includes a new proof of the fact that quiver Grassmannians associated with rigid representations of Dynkin quivers do not have cohomology in odd degrees. Moreover, it is shown that they do not have torsion in homology. A new proof of the Caldero--Chapoton formula is provided. As a consequence a new proof of the positivity of cluster monomials in the acyclic clusters associated with Dynkin quivers is obtained. The methods used here are based on joint works with Markus Reineke and Evgeny Feigin.
Caldero and Zelevinsky studied the geometry of quiver Grassmannians for the Kronecker quiver and computed their Euler characteristics by examining natural stratification of quiver Grassmannians. We consider generalized Kronecker quivers and compute virtual Poincare polynomials of certain varieties which are the images under projections from strata of quiver Grassmannians to ordinary Grassmannians. In contrast to the Kronecker quiver case, these polynomials do not necessarily have positive coefficients. The key ingredient is the explicit formula for noncommutative cluster variables given by Ral…
This paper contains the material discussed in the series of three lectures that I gave during the workshop of the ICRA 2018 in Prague. I will introduce the reader to some of the techniques used in the study of the geometry of quiver Grassmannians. The notes are quite elementary and thought for phd students or young researchers. I assume that the reader is familiar with the representation theory of quivers.
Quivers play an important role in the representation theory of algebras, with a key ingredient being the path algebra and the preprojective algebra. Quiver grassmannians are varieties of submodules of a fixed module of the path or preprojective algebra. In the current paper, we study these objects in detail. We show that the quiver grassmannians corresponding to submodules of certain injective modules are homeomorphic to the lagrangian quiver varieties of Nakajima which have been well studied in the context of geometric representation theory. We then refine this result by finding quiver grassm…
We prove that all quiver Grassmannians for exceptional representations of a generalized Kronecker quiver admit a cell decomposition. In the process, we introduce a class of regular representations which arise as quotients of consecutive preprojective representations. Cell decompositions for quiver Grassmannians of these "truncated preprojectives" are also established. We also provide two natural combinatorial labelings for these cells. On the one hand, they are labeled by certain subsets of a so-called 2-quiver attached to a (truncated) preprojective representation. On the other hand, the cell…
In recent articles, the investigation of atomic bases in cluster algebras associated to affine quivers led the second-named author to introduce a variety called transverse quiver Grassmannian and the first-named and third-named authors to consider the smooth loci of quiver Grassmannians. In this paper, we prove that, for any affine quiver Q, the transverse quiver Grassmannian of an indecomposable representation M is the set of points N in the quiver Grassmannian of M such that Ext^1(N,M/N)=0. As a corollary we prove that the transverse quiver Grassmannian coincides with the smooth locus of the…
We compute the Euler characteristics of quiver Grassmannians and quiver flag varieties of tree and band modules and prove their positivity. This generalizes some results by G.C. Irelli [arXiv:0910.2592]. As an application we consider the Ringel-Hall algebra $C(A)$ of some string algebras $A$ and compute in combinatorial terms the products of arbitrary functions in $C(A)$.
We show that if a connected, Hom-finite, Krull-Schmidt triangulated category has an Auslander-Reiten quiver component with Dynkin tree class then the category has Auslander-Reiten triangles and that component is the entire quiver. This is an analogue for triangulated categories of a theorem of Auslander, and extends a previous result of Scherotzke. We also show that if there is a quiver component with extended Dynkin tree class, then other components must also have extended Dynkin class or one of a small set of infinite trees, provided there is a non-zero homomorphism between the components. T…
Sherman-Zelevinsky and Cerulli constructed canonically positive bases in cluster algebras associated to affine quivers having at most three vertices. Both constructions involve cluster monomials and normalized Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind evaluated at a certain "imaginary" element in the cluster algebra. Using this combinatorial description, it is possible to define for any affine quiver $Q$ a set $\mathcal B(Q)$ which is conjectured to be the canonically positive basis of the acyclic cluster algebra $\mathcal A(Q)$. In this article, we provide a geometric realization of the element…
In this paper, we describe a general setting for dimer models on cylinders over Dynkin diagrams which in type A reduces to the well studied case of dimer models on a disc. We prove that all Berenstein--Fomin--Zelevinsky quivers for Schubert cells in a symmetric Kac--Moody algebra give rise to dimer models on the cylinder over the corresponding Dynkin diagram. We also give an independent proof of a result of Buan, Iyama, Reiten and Smith that the corresponding superpotentials are rigid using the dimer model structure of the quivers.
We show that a finite, connected quiver Q without oriented cycles is a Dynkin or Euclidean quiver if and only if all orbit semigroups of representations of Q are saturated.
We introduce image-cokernel-extension-closed (ICE-closed) subcategories of module categories. This class unifies both torsion classes and wide subcategories. We show that ICE-closed subcategories over the path algebra of Dynkin type are in bijection with basic rigid modules, that ICE-closed subcategories are precisely torsion classes in some wide subcategories, and that the number does not depend on the orientation of the quiver. We give an explicit formula of this number for each Dynkin type, and in particular, it is equal to the large Schröder number for type A case.
For a commutative ring $R$ and an ADE Dynkin quiver $Q$, we prove that the multiplicative preprojective algebra of Crawley-Boevey and Shaw, with parameter $q=1$, is isomorphic to the (additive) preprojective algebra as $R$-algebras if and only if the bad primes for $Q$ (2 in type D, 2 and 3 for $Q = E_{6}$, $E_{7}$ and 2, 3 and 5 for $Q= E_{8}$) are invertible in $R$. We construct an explicit isomorphism over $\mathbb{Z}[1/2]$ in type D, over $\mathbb{Z}[1/2, 1/3]$ for $Q = E_{6}$, $E_{7}$ and over $\mathbb{Z}[1/2, 1/3, 1/5]$ for $Q=E_{8}$. Conversely, if some bad prime is not invertible in $R…
We define Calabi-Yau and periodic Frobenius algebras over arbitrary base commutative rings. We define a Hochschild analogue of Tate cohomology, and show that the "stable Hochschild cohomology" of periodic CY Frobenius algebras has a Batalin-Vilkovisky and Frobenius algebra structure. Such algebras include (centrally extended) preprojective algebras of (generalized) Dynkin quivers, and group algebras of classical periodic groups. We use this theory to compute (for the first time) the Hochschild cohomology of many algebras related to quivers, and to simplify the description of known results. Fur…
Let Q be a quiver of type ADE. We construct the corresponding Auslander-Reiten quiver as a topological complex inside the Coxeter complex associated with the underlying Dynkin diagram. We use the notion of chamber weights coming from the theory of the canonical basis of quantized envelopping algebras, and show this set has a special linearity property in our setting. Finally, we consider A_n case, and describe how Auslander-Reiten quivers correspond to particular wiring diagrams.
We count the $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational points of GIT quotients of quiver representations with relations. We focus on two types of algebras -- one is one-point extended from a quiver $Q$, and the other is the Dynkin $A_2$ tensored with $Q$. For both, we obtain explicit formulas. We study when they are polynomial-count. We follow the similar line as in the first paper but algebraic manipulations in Hall algebra will be replaced by corresponding geometric constructions.
