We investigate the entanglement spectrum of the ground state of Su-Schrieffer-Heeger-Hubbard model. The topological phases of the model can be identified by degeneracy of the largest eigenvalues of entanglement spectrum. The study of the periodic boundary condition is enough to obtain the phase diagram of the model, without the consideration of the open boundary condition case. Physical interpretation about the bulk-edge correspondence in the entanglement spectrum is presented. The method of the entanglement spectrum can be applicable in studying other topological phases of matter.
We consider the non-Hermitian, parity-time (PT) symmetric extensions of the one-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model in the topological non-trivial configuration. We study the properties of the topologically protected edge states, and develop an effective two-state analytical description of the system that accurately predicts the PT-symmetry breaking point for the edge states. We verify our analytical results by exact numerical calculations.
A non-Hermitian topological insulator with real spectrum is interesting in the theory of non-Hermitian extension of topological systems. We find an experimentally realizable example of a two dimensional non-Hermitian topological insulator with real spectrum. We consider two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with gain and loss. We introduce non-Hermitian polarization vector to explore topological phase and show that topological edge states in the band gap exist in the system.
We investigate the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model in presence of an injection and removal of particles, introduced via a master equation in Lindblad form. It is shown that the dynamics of the density matrix follows the predictions of calculations in which the gain and loss are modeled by complex $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric potentials. In particular it is found that there is a clear distinction in the dynamics between the topologically different cases known from the stationary eigenstates.

The Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model has recently received considerable attention in condensed matter because it describes a typical one-dimensional system with topological edge states. Here, we investigate SSH-based charging protocols of quantum batteries (QB) with N quantum cells. This SSH QB hopping interaction induced ground state splitting makes the different effects of the dimerize parameter to the QB in the different quantum phase region. In the non-splitting region, the dimerize parameter has little influence on the QB. Whereas the fully-splitting region, the dimerize parameter has a s…
We suggest a method for fast and robust quantum-state transfer in a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain, which exploits the use of next-to-nearest-neighbour (NNN) interactions. The proposed quantum protocol combines a rapid change in one of the topological edge states, induced by a modulation of nearest-neighbour interactions, with a fine tuning of NNN interactions operating a counter-adiabatic driving. The latter cancels nonadiabatic excitations from the edge state multiplicity to the energy bands. We use this shortcut technique for topological pumping of edge states on a single dimerized chain …
In the present work we discuss the propagation of excitons across a one-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattice, which possesses both harmonic oscillations and weak quartic anharmonicities. When quantizing these vibrational degrees of freedom we identify several phonon-conserving nonlinearities, each one with a different impact on the excitonic transport. Our analysis identifies a dominant nonlinear correction to the phonon hopping which leads to a strong enhancement of exciton conduction compared to a purely linear vibrational dynamics. Thus quartic lattice nonlinearities can be exploited to…
T-distributed stochastic neighborhood embedding (tSNE) is used as a tool to reveal the phase diagram of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and some of its extended and non-Hermitian variants. Bloch vectors calculated at different points in the parameter space are mapped to a two-dimensional reduced space. The clusters in the reduced space are used to visualize different phase regions included in the input. The tSNE mapping is shown to be effective even in the challenging case of the non-Hermitian extended model where five different phases are present. An example of using wavefunction input, instea…
A remarkable feature of the trimer Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH3) model is that it supports localized edge states. Although Zak's phase remains quantized for the case of a mirror-symmetric chain, it is known that it fails to take integer values in the absence of this symmetry and thus it cannot play the role of a well-defined bulk invariant in the general case. Attempts to establish a bulk-edge correspondence have been made via Green's functions or through extensions to a synthetic dimension. Here we propose a simple alternative for SSH3, utilizing the previously introduced sublattice Zak's phase…
We investigate dissipative extensions of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model with regard to different approaches of modeling dissipation. In doing so, we use two distinct frameworks to describe the gain and loss of particles, one uses Lindblad operators within the scope of Lindblad master equations, the other uses complex potentials as an effective description of dissipation. The reservoirs are chosen in such a way that the non-Hermitian complex potentials are $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric. From the effective theory we extract a state which has similar properties as the non-equilibrium steady state foll…
Topological electronics has extended its richness to non-electronic systems where phonons and magnons can play the role of electrons. In particular, topological phases of magnons can be enabled by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) which acts as an effective spin-orbit coupling. We show that besides DMI, an alternating arrangement of Heisenberg exchange interactions critically determines the magnon band topology, realizing a magnonic analog of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. On a honeycomb ferromagnet with perpendicular anisotropy, we calculate the topological phase diagram, the chira…
We propose an anti-parity-time (anti-PT ) symmetric non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, where the large non-Hermiticity constructively creates nontrivial topology and greatly expands the topological phase. In the anti-PT -symmetric SSH model, the gain and loss are alternatively arranged in pairs under the inversion symmetry. The appearance of degenerate point at the center of the Brillouin zone determines the topological phase transition, while the exceptional points unaffect the band topology. The large non-Hermiticity leads to unbalanced wavefunction distribution in the broken an…

In this paper, we study the topological properties of the non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) lattice by periodically introducing onsite imaginary potentials in the manner of ($iγ_1$, $-iγ_2$, $-iγ_1$, $iγ_2$) where $γ_1$ and $γ_2$ are the imaginary potential strengths. Results show that by changing the lattice to a tetramerized non-Hermitian system, such imaginary potentials induce the nontrivial transition of the topological properties of the SSH system. First, the topologically-nontrivial region is extended, followed by the non-Hermitian spontaneous breaking of the anti-$\cal PT$ symme…

The interplay between the spin-orbit and Zeeman interactions acting on a spinful Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model is studied based on an InAs nanowire subjected to a periodic gate potential along the axial direction. It is shown that a nontrivial topological phase can be achieved by regulating the confining-potential configuration. In the absence of the Zeeman field, we prove that the topology of the chain is not affected by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction due to the persisting chiral symmetry. The energies of the edge modes can be manipulated by varying the magnitude and direction of the external…
The Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, which captures the most striking transport properties of the conductive organic polymer $trans$-polyacetylene, provides perhaps the most basic model system supporting topological excitations. The alternating bond pattern of polyacetylene chains is captured by the bipartite sublattice structure of the SSH model, emblematic of one-dimensional chiral symmetric topological insulators. This structure supports two distinct nontrivial topological phases, which, when interfaced with one another or with a topologically trivial phase, give rise to topologically-prot…
We study the parity- and time-reversal PT symmetric non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with two conjugated imaginary potentials $\pm iγ$ at two end sites. The SSH model is known as one of the simplest two-band topological models which has topologically trivial and nontrivial phases. We find that the non-Hermitian terms can lead to different effects on the properties of the eigenvalues spectrum in topologically trivial and nontrivial phases. In the topologically trivial phase, the system undergos an abrupt transition from unbroken PT-symmetry region to spontaneously broken $\mathcal…
By introducing the next-nearest-neighboring (NNN) intersite coupling, we investigate the eigenenergies of the $\cal PT$-symmetric non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with two conjugated imaginary potentials at the end sites. It is found that with the strengthening of NNN coupling, the particle-hole symmetry is destroyed. As a result, the bonding band is first narrowed and then undergoes the top-bottom reversal followed by the its width's increase, whereas the antibonding band is widened monotonously. In this process, the topological state extends into the topologically-trivial regio…
Exploring topological phases in interacting systems is a challenging task. We investigate many-body topological physics of interacting fermions in an extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, which extends the two sublattices of SSH model into four sublattices and thus is dubbed SSH4 model, based on the density-matrix renormalization-group numerical method. The interaction-driven phase transition from topological insulator to charge density wave (CDW) phase can be identified by analyzing the variations of entanglement spectrum, entanglement entropies, energy gaps, CDW order parameter, and fid…
For non-Hermitian quantum models, the dynamics is apparently not reflected by the static properties, e.g., the complex energy spectrum, because of the nonorthogonality of the right eigenvectors, the nonunitarity of the time evolution, the breakdown of the adiabatic theory, etc., but in experiments the time evolution of an initial state is commonly used. Here, we pay attention to the dynamics of an initial end state in nonreciprocal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger models under open boundary conditions, and we find that it is dynamically more robust than its Hermitian counterpart, because the non-Hermitian…
We investigate a variant of the SSH model consisting of an SSH chain with an embedded Aharonov-Bohm quantum ring. The embedded ring gives rise to domain wall states whose energy levels are in the band gap. The dependence of some of the states on the ring's magnetic flux provides a mechanism to control the entanglement between the two SSH edge fermion modes. The concurrence between the edge modes depends periodically on the magnetic flux. In the deep topological zone, for appropriate values of the flux, the concurrence reaches the extreme values of $0$ and $1$, corresponding to vanishing entang…
We describe the low-temperature optical conductivity as a function of frequency for a quantum-mechanical system of electrons that hop along a polymer chain. To this end, we invoke the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger \emph{tight-binding} Hamiltonian for non-interacting spinless electrons on a one-dimensional (1D) lattice. Our goal is to show via asymptotics how the interband conductivity of this system behaves as the smallest energy bandgap tends to close. Our analytical approach includes: (i) the Kubo-type formulation for the optical conductivity with a nonzero damping due to microscopic collisions; (ii)…
We propose an implementation of a generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model based on optomechanical arrays. The topological properties of the generalized SSH model depend on the effective optomechanical interactions enhanced by strong driving optical fields. Three phases including one trivial and two distinct topological phases are found in the generalized SSH model. The phase transition can be observed by turning the strengths and phases of the effective optomechanical interactions via adjusting the external driving fields. Moreover, four types of edge states can be created in generalized …
A dimerized fermion chain, described by Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, is a well-known example of 1D system with a non-trivial band topology. An interplay of disorder and topological ordering in the SSH model is of a great interest owing to experimental advancements in synthesized quantum simulators. In this work, we investigate a special sort of a disorder when inter-cell hopping amplitudes are random. Using a definition for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-topological invariant $ν\in \{ 0; 1\}$ in terms of a non-Hermitian part of the total Hamiltonian, we calculate $\langleν\rangle$ averaged by random real…
We provide an extensive look at Bott periodicity in the context of complex gapped topological phases of free fermions. In doing so, we remark on the existence of a product structure in the set of inequivalent phases induced by the external tensor product of vector bundles -- a structure which has not yet been explored in condensed-matter literature. Bott periodicity appears in the form of a generalized Dirac monopole built out of a given phase, which is equivalent to the product of a Dirac monopole phase with that same given phase. The complex K-theory cohomology ring is presented as a natural…
