Inspired by the work of Bhatt and Singh (see: arXiv:1307.1171) we compute the $F$-pure threshold of quasi-homogeneous polynomials. We first consider the case of a curve given by a quasi-homogeneous polynomial $f$ in three variables $x,y,z$ of degree equal to the degree of $xyz$ and then we proceed with the general case of a Calabi-Yau hypersurface, i.e. a hypersurface given by a quasi-homogeneous polynomial $f$ in $n+1$ variables $x_0, \ldots, x_n$ of degree equal to the degree of $x_0 \cdots x_n$.
We consider a quasi-homogeneous polynomial $f \in \mathbb{Z}[x_0, \ldots, x_N]$ of degree $w$ equal to the degree of $x_0 \cdots x_N$ and show that the $F$-pure threshold of the reduction $f_p \in \mathbb{F}_p[x_0, \ldots, x_N]$ is equal to the log canonical threshold if and only if the height of the Artin-Mazur formal group associated to $H^{N-1}\left( X, {\mathbb{G}}_{m,X} \right)$, where $X$ is the hypersurface given by $f$, is equal to 1. We also prove that a similar result holds for Fermat hypersurfaces of degree $>N+1$. Furthermore, we give examples of weighted Delsarte surfaces which sh…
In this paper, we prove that the set of all $F$-pure thresholds of ideals with fixed embedding dimension satisfies the ascending chain condition. As a corollary, given an integer $d$, we verify the ascending chain condition for the set of all $F$-pure thresholds on all $d$-dimensional normal l.c.i. varieties. In the process of proving these results, we also show the rationality of $F$-pure thresholds of ideals on non-strongly $F$-regular pairs.
In this article, we investigate F-pure thresholds of polynomials that are homogeneous under some N-grading, and have an isolated singularity at the origin. We characterize these invariants in terms of the base p expansion of the corresponding log canonical threshold. As an application, we are able to make precise some bounds on the difference between F-pure and log canonical thresholds established by Mustaţă and the fourth author. We also examine the set of primes for which the F-pure and log canonical threshold of a polynomial must differ. Moreover, we obtain results in special cases on the A…
We prove that if Y is a hypersurface of degree d in P^n with isolated singularities, then the log canonical threshold of (P^n,Y) is at least min{n/d,1}. Moreover, if d is at least n+1, then we have equality if and only if Y is the projective cone over a (smooth) hypersurface in P^{n-1}. In the case when Y is a hyperplane section of a smooth hypersurface in P^{n+1}, Cheltsov and Park have proved that Y has isolated singularities and they have obtained the above lower bound for the log canonical threshold. Moreover they made the conjecture about the equality case (for d=n+1) and they proved that…
Blickle, Mustaţă and Smith proposed two conjectures on the limits of $F$-pure thresholds. One conjecture asks whether or not the limit of a sequence of $F$-pure thresholds of principal ideals on regular local rings of fixed dimension can be written as an $F$-pure threshold in lower dimension. Another conjecture predicts that any $F$-pure threshold of a formal power series can be written as the $F$-pure threshold of a polynomial. In this paper, we prove that the first conjecture has a counterexample but a weaker statement still holds. We also give a partial affirmative answer to the second conj…
The F-pure threshold is a positive characteristic numerical invariant, analogous to the log canonical threshold in characteristic zero. We compute the F-pure threshold of the affine cone over a Calabi-Yau hypersurface, and relate it to the order of vanishing of the Hasse invariant on the versal deformation space of the hypersurface.
Using the Frobenius map, we introduce a new invariant for a pair $(R,\a)$ of a ring $R$ and an ideal $\a \subset R$, which we call the F-pure threshold $\mathrm{c}(\a)$ of $\a$, and study its properties. We see that the F-pure threshold characterizes several ring theoretic properties. By virtue of Hara and Yoshida's result, the F-pure threshold $\mathrm{c}(\a)$ in characteristic zero corresponds to the log canonical threshold $\mathrm{lc}(\a)$ which is an important invariant in birational geometry. Using the F-pure threshold, we prove some ring theoretic properties of three-dimensional termina…
We provide a family of examples where the $F$-pure threshold and the log canonical threshold of a polynomial are different, but where $p$ does not divide the denominator of the $F$-pure threshold (compare with an example of \mustata-Takagi-Watanabe). We then study the $F$-signature function in the case where either the $F$-pure threshold and log canonical threshold coincide or where $p$ does not divide the denominator of the $F$-pure threshold. We show that the $F$-signature function behaves similarly in those two cases. Finally, we include an appendix which shows that the test ideal can still…
We present a new relation between an invariant of singularities in characteristic zero (the log canonical threshold) and an invariant of singularities defined via the Frobenius morphism in positive characteristic (the F-pure threshold). We show that the set of limit points of sequences of the form (c_p), where c_p is the F-pure threshold of an ideal on an n-dimensional smooth variety in characteristic p, coincides with the set of log canonical thresholds of ideals on n-dimensional smooth varieties in characteristic zero. We prove this by combining results of Hara and Yoshida with non-standard …
In this note, we use estimates given in the recent preprint [Her11b]to deduce a formula for the F-pure threshold of a binomial hypersurface over a field of prime characteristic. These formulas are given in terms of the associated splitting polytope, and remain valid over any characteristic.
In this paper, we prove that the set of all $F$-pure thresholds on a fixed germ of a strongly $F$-regular pair satisfies the ascending chain condition. As a corollary, we verify the ascending chain condition for the set of all $F$-pure thresholds on smooth varieties or, more generally, on varieties with tame quotient singularities, which is an affirmative answer to a conjecture given by Blickle, Mustaţǎ and Smith.
We find a formula, in terms of n, d and p, for the value of the F-pure threshold for the generic homogeneous polynomial of degree d in n variables over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. We also show that, in every characteristic p and for all d (greater than 3) not divisible by p, there always exist reduced polynomials of degree d whose F-pure threshold is a truncation of the base p expansion of 2/d at some place; in particular, there always exist reduced polynomials whose F-pure threshold is strictly less than 2/d. We provide an example to resolve, negatively, a question prop…
In this note, we consider a corollary of the ACC conjecture for F-pure thresholds. Specifically, we show that the F-pure threshold (and more generally, the test ideals) associated to a polynomial with an isolated singularity are locally constant in the m-adic topology of the corresponding local ring. As a by-product of our methods, we also describe a simple algorithm for computing all of the F-jumping numbers and test ideals associated to an arbitrary polynomial over an F-finite field.
We propose a conjectural list of Fano manifolds of Picard number $1$ with pseudoeffective normalized tangent bundles, which we prove in various situations by relating it to the complete divisibility conjecture of Russo and Zak on varieties with small codegree. Furthermore, the pseudoeffective thresholds and hence the pseudoeffective cones of the projectivized tangent bundles of rational homogeneous spaces of Picard number $1$ are explicitly determined by studying the total dual VMRT and the geometry of stratified Mukai flops. As a by-product, we obtain sharp vanishing theorems on the global tw…
We prove that if $f$ is a reduced homogenous polynomial of degree $d$, then its $F$-pure threshold at the unique homogeneous maximal ideal is at least $\frac{1}{d-1}$. We show, furthermore, that its $F$-pure threshold equals $\frac{1}{d-1}$ if and only if $f\in \mathfrak m^{[q]}$ and $d=q+1$, where $q$ is a power of $p$. Up to linear changes of coordinates (over a fixed algebraically closed field), we classify such "extremal singularities," and show that there is at most one with isolated singularity. Finally, we indicate several ways in which the projective hypersurfaces defined by such forms…
We continue our study of F-thresholds begun in math/0607660 by an in depth analysis of the hypersurface case. We use the D--module theoretic description of generalized test ideals which allows us to show that in any F--finite regular ring the F-thresholds of hypersurfaces are discrete and rational (in math/0607660 the finite type over a field case was shown for arbitrary ideals). Furthermore we show that any limit of F-pure thresholds of principal ideals in bouneded dimension is again an F-pure-threshold, hence in particular the limit is rational. The study of the set of F-pure-thresholds lead…

We provide a formula for $F$-thresholds of a Thom-Sebastiani type polynomial over a perfect field of prime characteristic. This result extends the formula for the $F$-pure threshold of a diagonal hypersurface. We also compute the first test ideal of Thom-Sebastiani type polynomials. Finally, we apply our result to find hypersurfaces where the log canonical thresholds equals the $F$-pure thresholds for infinitely many prime numbers.
The $F$-thresholds are important numerical invariants in prime characteristic, whose existence had been established only under certain assumptions. We show the existence of $F$-thresholds in full generality. We study properties of standard graded algebras over a field for which $F$-pure threshold and $F$-threshold at the irrelevant maximal ideal agree. We also exhibit explicit bounds for the $a$-invariants and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of Frobenius powers of ideals in terms of $F$-thresholds and $F$-pure thresholds, obtaining existence of related limits in certain cases.

The a-invariant, the F-pure threshold, and the diagonal F-threshold are three important invariants of a graded K-algebra. Hirose, Watanabe, and Yoshida have conjectured relations among these invariants for strongly F-regular rings. In this article, we prove that these relations hold only assuming that the algebra is F-pure. In addition, we present an interpretation of the a-invariant for F-pure Gorenstein graded K-algebras in terms of regular sequences that preserve F-purity. This result is in the spirit of Bertini theorems for projective varieties. Moreover, we show connections with projectiv…
In this article, we consider the conjectured relationship between F-purity and log canonicity for polynomials over the complex numbers. We associate to a collection M of n monomials a rational polytope P contained in [0,1]^n. Using P and the Newton polyhedron associated to M, we define a non-degeneracy condition under which log canonicity and dense F-pure type are equivalent for all linear combinations of the monomials in M. We also show that log canonicity corresponds to F-purity for very general polynomials. Our methods rely on showing that the F-pure and log canonical threshold agree for in…
