The Zeeman spatial splitting of a neutron beam takes place during a neutron spin-flip in magnetically non-collinear systems at grazing incidence geometry. We apply the neutron beam-splitting method for the investigation of magnetically non-collinear clusters of submicron size in a thin film. The experimental results are compared with ones obtained by other methods.
Despite its potential for device application, the non-magnetic Zeeman effect has only been predicted and observed in two-dimensional compounds. We demonstrate that non-centrosymmetric three-dimensional compounds can also exhibit a Zeeman-type spin splitting, allowing the splitting control by changing the growth direction of slabs formed by these compounds. We determine the required conditions for this effect: $i$) non-centrosymmetric including polar and non-polar point groups, $ii$) valence band maximum or conduction band minimum in a generic $k$-point, i.e., non-time-reversal-invariant moment…
The Zeeman effect offers unique opportunities for magnetic manipulation of the spin degree of freedom (DOF). Recently, valley Zeeman splitting, referring to the lifting of valley degeneracy, has been demonstrated in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) at liquid helium temperature. However, to realize the practical applications of valley pseudospins, the valley DOF must be controllable by a magnetic field at room temperature, which remains a significant challenge. Magnetic doping in TMDs can enhance the Zeeman splitting, however, to achieve this experimentally is not easy. H…

Zeeman splitting of light hole in quantum wells: comparison of theory and experiments
Influence of Zeeman splitting and thermally excited polaron states on magneto-electrical and magneto-thermal properties of magnetoresistive polycrystalline manganite La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}MnO_3
Circular polarization resolved magneto-infrared studies of multilayer epitaxial graphene (MEG) are performed using tunable quantum cascade lasers in high magnetic fields up to 17.5 T. Landau level (LL) transitions in the monolayer and bilayer graphene inclusions of MEG are resolved, and considerable electron-hole asymmetry is observed in the extracted electronic band structure. For monolayer graphene, a four-fold splitting of the $n=0$ to $n=1$ LL transition is evidenced and attributed to the lifting of the valley and spin degeneracy of the zeroth LL and the broken electron-hole symmetry. The …
We investigate the topological nodal structure of three-dimensional (3D) ZrTe$_5$ driven by Zeeman splitting as a function of the direction of external magnetic (B) field by using a Wannier-function-based tight-binding (WFTB) model obtained from first-principles calculations. It is known that small external stimuli can drive 3D ZrTe$_5$ into different topological phases including Dirac semimetal. In order to emphasize the effect of Zeeman splitting, we consider 3D ZrTe$_5$ in a strong TI phase with a small band gap. With Zeeman splitting greater than the band gap, the WFTB model suggests that …
Computational crystal-field models have provided consistent models of both electronic and Zeeman-hyperfine structure for several rare earth ions. These techniques have not yet been applied to the Zeeman-hyperfine structure of Eu$^{3+}$ because modeling the structure of the $J=0$ singlet levels in Eu$^{3+}$ requires inclusion of the commonly omitted lattice electric quadrupole and nuclear Zeeman interactions. Here, we include these terms in a computational model to fit the crystal field levels and the Zeeman-hyperfine structure of the $^7F_0$ and $^5D_0$ states in three Eu$^{3+}$ sites: the C$_…
Due to the energy supply pressure caused by non-renewable fuels as well as the environment-related issues, the efficient conversion of solar-chemical energy via photo-induced water splitting is one of the promising strategies to address the existing problems. To strengthen the overall catalytic performance of photocatalytic hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) evolution, the selection and construction of cocatalysts are crucial. Recently, the semiconductor photocatalysts have been well modified with the loaded cocatalysts as the active sites by extending the light harvest, promoting the electron sepa…
Valleytronics is a rising topic to explore the emergent degree of freedom for charge carriers in energy band edges and has attracted a great interest due to many intriguing quantum phenomena and potential application in information processing industry. Creation of permanent valley polarization, i.e. unbalanced occupation at different valleys, is a chief challenge and also urgent question to be solved in valleytronics. Here we predict that the spin-orbit coupling and magnetic ordering allow spontaneous valley Zeeman-type splitting in pristine monolayer of VAgP2Se6 by using first-principles calc…
