Phase transitions in Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend Massive Gravity

We present the Hawking-Page phase diagrams in the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity theory for different solutions, such as the phase transitions between vacuum $\text{AdS}_3$ and BTZ black hole, warped $\text{AdS}_3$ and warped BTZ black hole in grand canonical and in non-local/quadratic ensembles, Lifshitz black hole and the new hairy black hole solutions. We observe that except for the black holes in quadratic ensemble, for other cases in the non-chiral theory of BHT the phase diagrams are symmetric with respect to the direction of angular momentum, as we expected. We conclude that for presenting the phase diagrams of warped $\text{AdS}_3$ black holes, only the grand canonical ensemble should be used.

Vaidya-like exact solutions with torsion

Starting from the Oliva--Tempo--Troncoso black hole, a solution of the Bergshoeff--Hohm--Townsend massive gravity, a class of the Vaidya-like exact vacuum solutions with torsion is constructed in the three-dimensional Poincaré gauge theory. A particular subclass of these solutions is shown to possess the asymptotic conformal symmetry. The related canonical energy contains a contribution stemming from torsion.

Extra gauge symmetries in BHT gravity

We study the canonical structure of the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend massive gravity, linearized around a maximally symmetric background. At the critical point in the space of parameters, defined by $Λ_0/m^2=-1$, we discover an extra gauge symmetry, which reflects the existence of the partially massless mode. The number of the Lagrangian degrees of freedom is found to be 1. We show that the canonical structure of the theory at the critical point is unstable under linearization.

Some interesting features of new massive gravity

A proof that new massive gravity - the massive 3D gravity model proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm and Townsend (BHT) - is the only unitary system at the tree level that can be constructed by augmenting planar gravity through the curvature-squared terms, is presented. Two interesting gravitational properties of the BHT model, namely, time dilation and time delay, which have no counterpart in the usual Einstein 3D gravity, are analyzed as well.

Black-hole dynamics in BHT massive gravity

Using an exact Vaidya-type null-dust solution, we study the area and entropy laws for dynamical black holes defined by a future outer trapping horizon in (2+1)-dimensional Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity. We consider the theory admitting a degenerate (anti-)de Sitter vacuum and pure BHT gravity. It is shown that, while the area of a black hole decreases by the injection of a null dust with positive energy density in several cases, the Wald-Kodama dynamical entropy always increases.

Conformally flat black holes in Poincaré gauge theory

General criteria for the existence of conformally flat Riemannian solutions in 3D Poincaré gauge theory without matter are formulated. Using these criteria, we show that the Oliva-Tempo-Troncoso black hole, a solution of the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Town\-send gravity, is also an exact vacuum solution of the Poincaré gauge theory. The related conserved charges, calculated from the Hamiltonian boundary term, are shown to satisfy the first law of black hole thermodynamics. The form of the boundary term is verified by using the covariant Hamiltonian approach.

Hamiltonian analysis of BHT massive gravity

We study the Hamiltonian structure of the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity with a cosmological constant. In the space of coupling constants $(Λ_0,m^2)$, our canonical analysis reveals the special role of the condition $Λ_0/m^2\neq-1$. In this sector, the dimension of the physical phase space is found to be $N^*=4$, which corresponds to two Lagrangian degree of freedom. When applied to the AdS asymptotic region, the canonical approach yields the conserved charges of the BTZ black hole, and central charges of the asymptotic symmetry algebra.

Corrected entropy of the rotating black hole solution of the new massive gravity using the tunneling method and Cardy formula

We study the AdS rotating black hole solution for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity in three dimensions. The field equations of the asymptotically AdS black hole of the static metric can be expressed as the first law of thermodynamics, i.e. $dE=TdS-PdV$. The corrected Hawking-like temperature and entropy of asymptotically AdS rotating black hole are calculated using the Cardy formula and the tunneling method. Comparison of these methods will help identify the unknown leading correction parameter $β_1$ in the tunneling method.

Hawking Radiation of Fermionic Field and Anomaly in 2+1 Dimensional Black Holes

The method of anomaly cancellation to derive Hawking radiation initiated by Robinson and Wilczek is applied to 2+1 dimensional stationary black holes. Canonical structure of BHT massive gravity in warped AdS3 sector

We investigate the asymptotic structure of the three dimensional warped anti de sitter black holes in the Bergshoeff, Hohm and Townsend massive gravity using the canonical Hamiltonian formalism. Null Geodesics and Repulsive Behavior of Gravity in (2+1)-dimensional Massive Gravity

We study the null geodesics in a static circularly symmetric (SCS) black hole spacetime which is a solution in the $(2+1)$-dimensional massive gravity proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm and Townsend (BHT massive gravity). We obtain analytic solutions for the null geodesic equation in the SCS black hole background and find the explicit form of deflection angles. We see that for various values of the impact parameter, the deflection angle can be positive, negative or even zero in this black hole spacetime. Anisotropic Scale Invariant Spacetimes and Black Holes in Zwei-Dreibein Gravity

We show that Zwei-Dreibein Gravity (ZDG), a bigravity theory recently proposed by Bergshoeff, de Haan, Hohm, Merbis, and Townsend in Phys.Rev.Lett. 111 (2013) 111102, admits exact solutions with anisotropic scale invariance. These type of geometries are the three-dimensional analogues of the spacetimes which were proposed as gravity duals for condensed matter systems. In particular, we find Schrödinger invariant spaces as well as Lifshitz spaces with arbitrary dynamical exponent $z$. Bending AdS Waves with New Massive Gravity

We study AdS-waves in the three-dimensional new theory of massive gravity recently proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm, and Townsend. The general configuration of this type is derived and shown to exhibit different branches, with different asymptotic behaviors. In particular, for the special fine tuning $m^2=\pm1/(2l^2)$, solutions with logarithmic fall-off arise, while in the range $m^2>-1/(2l^2)$, spacetimes with Schrodinger isometry group are admitted as solutions. Nonlinear Dynamics of 3D Massive Gravity

We explore the nonlinear classical dynamics of the three-dimensional theory of "New Massive Gravity" proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm and Townsend. We find that the theory passes remarkably highly nontrivial consistency checks at the nonlinear level. Gravitational solitons, hairy black holes and phase transitions in BHT massive gravity

Hairy black holes and gravitational solitons in three dimensions for the new massive gravity theory proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm and Townsend (BHT) are considered at the special case when there is a unique maximally symmetric solution. Asymptotically AdS rotating black holes for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity theory in three dimensions are considered.
