We investigate the structure of vortex-bound states in spin-singlet chiral superconductors with ($d_{x^2-y^2} \pm i d_{xy}$)-wave and ($d_{xz} \pm id_{yz}$)-wave pairing symmetries. It is found that vortices in the ($d_{xz} \pm id_{yz}$)-wave state bind zero-energy states which are dispersionless along the vortex line, forming a doubly degenerate Majorana flat band. Vortex-bound states of ($d_{x^2-y^2} \pm i d_{xy}$)-wave superconductors, on the other hand, exist only at finite energy. Using exact diagonalization and analytical solutions of tight-binding Bogoliubov-de Gennes Hamiltonians, we compute the energy spectrum of the vortex-bound states and the local density of states around the vortex and antivortex cores. We find that the tunneling conductance peak of the vortex is considerably broader than that of the antivortex. This difference can be used as a direct signature of the chiral order parameter symmetry.
In this paper we study an s-wave topological SC with a square vortex-lattice. We proposed a topological Majorana lattice model to describe this topological state. We found that the Majorana lattice model is really a "topological SC" on the parent topological SC. Such correspondence between the Majorana lattice model and the topological SC with vortex-lattice is another holographic feature of the topological state. In addition, the numerical calculations confirm our theoretical prediction.
One of the most important effects of strong electron correlation in high-Tc cuprates is the formation of Zhang-Rice singlets. By fully accounting for the quantum correlation effect of Zhang-Rice singlet formation, we show that a topological spin texture, skyrmion, is created around a Zhang-Rice singlet in the single-hole-doped CuO2 plane. The skyrmion picture provides a natural connection between the antiferromagnetic correlation and the doping concentration x.
In type-II superconductors that contain a lattice of magnetic moments, vortices polarize the magnetic system inducing additional contributions to the vortex mass, vortex viscosity, and vortex-vortex interaction. Extra magnetic viscosity is caused by radiation of spin waves by a moving vortex. Like in the case of Cherenkov radiation, this effect has a characteristic threshold behavior and the resulting vortex viscosity may be comparable to the well-known Bardeen-Stephen contribution. The threshold behavior leads to an anomaly in the current-voltage characteristics, and a drop in dissipation for…
We show how in principle a coherent coupling between two superconductors of opposite parity can be realized in a three-layer oxide heterostructure. Due to strong intraionic spin-orbit coupling in the middle layer, singlet Cooper pairs are converted into triplet ones and vice versa. This results in a large enhancement of the triplet superconductivity, persisting well above the native triplet critical temperature.
The present work deals with the study of d-wave superconductor in presence of a single vortex placed at the centre of the 2D lattice using the $t-t'-J$ model within the renormalized mean field theory. It is found that the in absence of the vortex the ground state has a d-wave configuration. In presence of the vortex, the superconducting order parameter, above the critical doping, drops to a low non zero value within a few lattice points from the vortex (that is within the the vortex core) and beyond it converges to the constant value in absence of vortex. We observe that above the critical dop…
Coexistence of antiferromagnetic order with superconductivity in many families of newly discovered iron-based superconductors has renewed interest to this old problem. Due to competition between the two types of order, one can expect appearance of the antiferromagnetism inside the cores of the vortices generated by the external magnetic field. The structure of a vortex in type II superconductors holds significant importance from the theoretical and the application points of view. Here we consider the internal vortex structure in a two-band s$_\pm$ superconductor near a spin-density-wave instab…
Vortices in chiral topological superconductors are known for trapping Majorana zero modes as a signature response to their bulk-state topologies. In this work, we establish a similar bulk-vortex correspondence for two-dimensional $C_n$-protected class D higher-order topological superconductors, in which a quantum vortex will universally trap a pair of $C_n$-protected Majorana bound states with $\hat{z}$-directional angular momenta $J_z=0$ and $J_z=n/2$, respectively. This intriguing one-to-one mapping between anomalous vortex modes and higher-order topology can be systematically derived throug…
Magnetic response of a superconductor depends on the thermodynamic stability of vortex in the material. Here we show that the vortex stability has a close relation with the ratio of the magnetic field at the vortex core center to the thermodynamic critical field. This finding provides a new criterion for the classification of the superconductors according to their magnetic responses.
The vortex-vortex interaction potential in bulk superconductors is calculated within the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory and is obtained from a numerical solution of a set of two coupled non-linear GL differential equations for the vector potential and the superconducting order parameter, where the merger of vortices into a giant vortex is allowed. Further, the interaction potentials between a vortex and a giant vortex and between a vortex and an antivortex are obtained for both type-I and type-II superconductors. Our numerical results agree asymptotically with the analytical expressions for large…

We studied strong-coupling effect upon an isolated vortex in a two-dimensional chiral p-wave superconductor. We solved the Eilenberger equation for the quasiclassical Green's functions and the Eliashberg equation with single mode Einstein boson self-consistently. We calculated the free-energy of each obtained vortex, and found that a non-axisymmetric vortex metastably exists in some situation.
We study the Josephson current, I_J, in a junction consisting of two s-wave superconductors that are separated by a ferromagnetic barrier possessing a magnetic and non-magnetic scattering potential, g and Z, respectively. We discuss the general dependence of I_J on g, Z, and the phase difference ϕbetween the two superconductors. Moreover, we compute the critical current, I_c for given g and Z, and show that it possesses two lines of non-analyticity in the (g, Z)-plane. We identify those regions in the (g, Z)-plane where the Josephson current changes sign with increasing temperature without a c…
We show that under certain conditions multiband superconductors with broken time-reversal symmetry have a new vortex viscosity-generating mechanism which is different from that in conventional superconductors. It appears due to the existence of mixed superfluid phase-density mode inside vortex core. This new contribution is dominant near the time reversal symmetry breaking phase transition. The results could be relevant for three band superconductor $Ba_{1-x}K_{x}Fe_2As_2$.
The vortex transport entropy in the mixed state of the cuprate superconductors YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-δ}$ and Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+x}$ at the maximum Nernst or Ettingshausen signal below $T_c$ is discussed. The vortex transport entropy per CuO$_2$ double layer in the cuprate epitaxial films is found to be close to the Boltzmann constant.
We describe a semi-analytic approach to the two-band Ginzburg-Landau theory, which predicts the behavior of vortices in two-band superconductors. We show that the character of the short-range vortex-vortex interaction is determined by the sign of the normal domain - superconductor interface energy, in analogy with the conventional differentiation between type-I and type-II superconductors. However, we also show that the long-range interaction is determined by a modified Ginzburg-Landau parameter $κ^*$, different from the standard $κ$ of a bulk superconductor. This opens the possibility for non…
In superconductors with strong coupling between superconductivity and elasticity manifested in a strong dependence of transition temperature on pressure, there is an additional contribution to inter-vortex interactions due to the strain field generated by vortices. When vortex lines are along the $c$ axis of a tetragonal crystal, a square vortex lattice (VL) is favored at low vortex densities, because the vortex-induced strains contribution to the inter-vortex interactions is long range. At intermediate magnetic fields, the triangular lattice is stabilized. The triangular lattice evolves to th…
Study of the Abrikosov vortex motion in superconductors based on time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations reveals an opportunity to locally detect the values of the Aharonov-Bohm type curl-less vector potentials.
We study the current-phase relation of a ballistic SIFIT junction, consisting of a spin-singlet superconductor (S), a weak ferromagnetic metal (F), a spin-triplet superconductor (T), and insulating ferromagnetic interfaces (I). We use the generalized quasiclassical formalism developed by A. Millis et al. to compute the current density and the free energy of the junction for arbitrary orientation of the magnetizations of the junction barrier. We investigate in detail the effect of the distribution of magnetization on the various harmonics of the current-phase relation and the transition of the …
Harnessing the properties of vortices in superconductors is crucial for fundamental science and technological applications; thus, it has been an ongoing goal to locally probe and control vortices. Here, we use a scanning probe technique that enables studies of vortex dynamics in superconducting systems by leveraging the resonant behavior of a raster-scanned, magnetic-tipped cantilever. This experimental setup allows us to image and control vortices, as well as extract key energy scales of the vortex interactions. Applying this technique to lattices of superconductor island arrays on a metal, w…
The quantization of magnetic flux in superconductors is usually seen as vortices penetrating the sample. While vortices are unstable in bulk type I superconductors, restricting the superconductor causes a variety of vortex structures to appear. We present a systematic study of giant vortex states in type I superconductors obtained by numerically solving the Ginzburg-Landau equations. The size of the vortices is seen to increase with decreasing film thickness. In type I superconductors, giant vortices appear at intermediate thicknesses but they do not form a well-defined vortex lattice. In the …
We study the Josephson effect in spin-singlet superconductor/helical $p$-wave superconductor junctions with a ferromagnetic barrier using the quasiclassical Green function method. It is found that both $\sinϕ$-type and $\cosϕ$-type current-phase relations always exist, irrespective of the gap symmetries in superconductors. The indispensable condition for the $\sinϕ$-type and $\cosϕ$-type current is that the magnetization must have a component parallel to the crystallographic $a$ or $b$ axis, which is distinct from the case of $p$-wave superconductor described by a $\vect{d}$-vector with a unif…
It is argued that the stress caused by vortex cores in the mixed state of superconductors may result in a field dependent contribution to the free energy and magnetization of measurable levels. For sufficiently strong stress dependence of the critical temperature, $\partial T_c/\partial p$, this contribution may result in the so-called "second peak" in the field dependence of the reversible magnetization, the effect often masked by vortex pinning and creep.
We consider bound states at the vortex core of a non-centrosymmetric superconductor. We show that, despite the mixing of singlet and triplet order parameters, zero energy states survive within certain parameter space as in vortices of some chiral p-wave states.
The relaxation iterative method is used to minimize Ginzburg-Landau model for the two-band superconductor with Josephson-coupling. A stable spontaneous vortex-antivortex pair with long range order has been revealed. Our result appears due to the Josephson-coupling effect, which leads to a linearly-dependence of total free energy on the distance between vortex-antivortex pair, hence accounts for this phenomenon.
