Classes of operators determined by ordinal indices

We introduce and study the Bourgain index of an operator between two Banach spaces. In particular, we study the Bourgain $\ell_p$ and $c_0$ indices of an operator. Several estimates for finite and infinite direct sums are established. We define classes determined by these indices and show that some of these classes form operator ideals. We characterize the ordinals which occur as the index of an operator and establish exactly when the defined classes are closed. Szlenk indices of convex hulls

We study the general measures of non-compactness defined on subsets of a dual Banach space, their associated derivations and their $ω$-iterates. We introduce the notions of convexifiable and sublinear measure of non-compactness and investigate the properties of its associated fragment and slice derivations. We apply our results to the Kuratowski measure of non-compactness and to the study of the Szlenk index of a Banach space. A Bohl-Bohr-Kadets type theorem characterizing Banach spaces not containing c0

We prove that a separable Banach space $E$ does not contain a copy of the space $\co$ of null-sequences if and only if for every doubly power-bounded operator $T$ on $E$ and for every vector $x\in E$ the relative compactness of the sets $\{T^{n+m}x-T^nx: n\in \NN\}$ (for some/all $m\in\NN$, $m\geq 1$) and $\{T^nx:n\in \NN\}$ are equivalent. With the help of the Jacobs--de Leeuw--Glicksberg decomposition of strongly compact semigroups the case of (not necessarily invertible) power-bounded operators is also handled.

Characterizing boundedness of metaplectic Toeplitz operators

We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols given by exponentials of complex quadratic forms. We show that the boundedness of the corresponding Weyl symbols is necessary for the boundedness of the operators, thereby completing the proof of the Berger-Coburn conjecture in this case. We also show that the compactness of such Toeplitz operators is equivalent to the vanishing of their Weyl symbols at infinity.

A local weighted Axler-Zheng theorem in $\mathbb{C}^n$

The well-known Axler-Zheng theorem characterizes compactness of finite sums of finite products of Toeplitz operators on the unit disk in terms of the Berezin transform of these operators.
