In a previous paper we have investigated the molecular environment towards the eastern border of the SNR G18.8+0.3. Continuing with the study of the surroundings of this SNR, in this work we focus on its southern border, which in the radio continuum emission shows a very peculiar morphology with a corrugated corner and a very flattened southern flank. We observed two regions towards the south of SNR G18.8+0.3 using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3-2. One of these regions was also surveyed in 13CO and C18O J=3-2. The angular and spectral resolution of these observations were 22", and 0.11 km/s. We compared the CO emission to 20 cm radio continuum maps obtain as part of the Multi-Array Galactic Plane Imaging Survey (MAGPIS) and 870 um dust emission extracted from the APEX Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy. We discovered a molecular feature with a good morphological correspondence with the SNR's southernmost corner. In particular, there are indentations in the radio continuum map that are complemented by protrusions in the molecular CO image, strongly suggesting that the SNR shock is interacting with a molecular cloud. Towards this region we found that the 12CO peak is not correlated with the observed 13CO peaks, which are likely related to a nearby \hii~region. Regarding the most flattened border of SNR G18.8+0.3, where an interaction of the SNR with dense material was previously suggested, our 12CO J=3-2 map show no obvious indication that this is occurring.
We present total-intensity and polarized-intensity images of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant (SNR) observed by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The high angular-resolution and high-sensitivity images enable us to thoroughly compare the properties of the northern part with the southern part of the SNR. The central filament in the northern part and the southern part have a similar foreground rotation measure, meaning their distances are likely similar. The polarization analysis indicates that the random magnetic field is larger than the regular field in the nor…
We present a large catalogue of molecular clouds with accurate distance estimates in the southern sky. Based on the three-dimensional (3D) dust extinction map and the best-fit extinction and distance information of over 17 million stars presented in Guo et al., we have identified 250 dust/molecular clouds in the southern sky using a hierarchical structure identification algorithm. Amongst them, 71 clouds locating at high Galactic latitudes ($b < -10^\circ$). We have estimated the distances to the clouds by fitting the extinction versus distance profiles of the lines of sight overlapping with t…
This is the initial paper in a series presenting the first optical detections and subsequent follow-up spectroscopy of known Southern Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) previously discovered in the radio. These new detections come from the AAO/UKST HAlpha survey of the Southern Galactic plane which has opened up fresh opportunities to study Galactic remnants. Here we present the first optical imaging and follow-up spectra of Galactic SNR G279.0+1.1 where a series of 14 small-scale fragmented groups of HAlpha filaments have been discovered in a ~2.3 deg. area centred on G279.0+1.1. Individually…
The eastern border of the SNR G18.8+0.3, close to an HII regions complex, is a very interesting region to study the molecular gas that it is probably in contact with the SNR shock front. We observed the aforementioned region using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3-2, 13CO J=3-2, HCO+ J=4-3, and CS J=7-6 lines with an angular resolution of 22". To complement these observations, we analyzed IR, submillimeter and radio continuum archival data. In this work, we clearly show that the radio continuum "protrusion" that was early thought to belong to the SNR is an H…
We present a molecular line study towards 31 extended green object (EGO) clumps in the southern sky using data from MALT90 (Millimetre Astronomy Legacy Team 90 GHz). According to previous multiwavelength observations, we divide our sample into two groups: massive young stellar objects (MYSOs) and HII regions. Our results seem to support that N2H+ and C2H emissions mainly come from the gas inside quiescent clumps. In addition, we also find that the [N2H+]/[H13CO+] and [C2H]/[H13CO+] relative abundance ratios decrease from MYSOs to HII regions. These results suggest depletion of N2H+ and C2H in …
The Columbia - U. de Chile CO Survey of the Southern Milky Way is used for separating the CO(1-0) emission of the fourth Galactic quadrant within the solar circle into its dominant components, giant molecular clouds (GMCs). After the subtraction of an axisymmetric model of the CO background emission in the inner Southern Galaxy, 92 GMCs are identified, and for 87 of them the two-fold distance ambiguity is solved. Their total molecular mass is M(H2) = 1.14 +/- 0.05 x 10^8 Msolar accounting for around 40% of the molecular mass estimated from an axisymmetric analysis of the H2 volume density in t…
Many physical properties of this SNR such as spectrum and polarization can only be investigated by radio observations. The $λ$11 cm and $λ$6\ cm continuum and polarization observations of SNR G65.2+5.7 were made with the Effelsberg 100-m and the Urumqi 25-m telescopes, respectively, to investigate the integrated spectrum, the spectral index distribution, and the magnetic field properties. $λ$21 cm archival data from the Effelsberg 100-m telescope have been also used. The integrated flux densities of G65.2+5.7 at $λ11$ cm and $λ6$ cm are $21.9\pm3.1$ Jy and 16.8$\pm$1.8 Jy, respectively. The po…
We present CO observations toward three large supernova remnants (SNRs) in the third Galactic quadrant using the Purple Mountain Observatory Delingha 13.7m radio telescope. The observations are part of the high-resolution CO survey of the Galactic plane between Galactic longitudes l=-10deg to 250deg and latitudes b=-5deg to 5d. CO emission was detected toward the three SNRs: G205.5+0.5 (Monoceros Nebula), G206.9+2.3 (PKS 0646+06), and G213.0-0.6. Both of SNRs G205.5+0.5 and G213.0-0.6 exhibit the morphological agreement (or spatial correspondences) between the remnant and the surrounding molec…
We investigate the molecular environment of the Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) Kesteven 78 and perform an XMM-Newton X-ray spectroscopic study for the northeastern edge of the remnant. SNR Kes78 is found to interact with the molecular clouds (MCs) at a systemic local standard of rest velocity of 81km/s. At around this velocity, the SNR appears to contact a long molecular strip in the northeast and a large cloud in the east as revealed in the 13CO line, which may be responsible for the radio brightness peak and the OH maser, respectively. The 12CO-line bright region morphologically matches th…
We present the detections of shocked molecular hydrogen (H2) gas in near- and mid-infrared and broad CO in millimeter from the mixed-morphology supernova remnant (SNR) HB~3 (G132.7+1.3) using Palomar WIRC, the Spitzer GLIMPSE360 and WISE surveys, and HHSMT. Our near-infrared narrow-band filter H2 2.12 micron images of HB~3 show that both Spitzer IRAC and WISE 4.6 micron emission originates from shocked H2 gas. The morphology of H2 exhibits thin filamentary structures and a large scale of interaction sites between the HB~3 and nearby molecular clouds. Half of HB~3, the southern and eastern shel…
N103B is a Type Ia supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We carried out new $^{12}$CO($J$ = 3-2) and $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0) observations using ASTE and ALMA. We have confirmed the existence of a giant molecular cloud (GMC) at $V_\mathrm{LSR}$ $\sim$245 km s$^{-1}$ towards the southeast of the SNR using ASTE $^{12}$CO($J$ = 3-2) data at an angular resolution of $\sim$25$"$ ($\sim$6 pc in the LMC). Using the ALMA $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0) data, we have spatially resolved CO clouds along the southeastern edge of the SNR with an angular resolution of $\sim$1.8$"$ ($\sim$0.4 pc in t…
The historical supernova remnant (SNR) Tycho SN 1572 originates from the explosion of a normal Type Ia supernova which is believed to have originated from a carbon-oxygen white dwarf in a binary system. We analyze the 21cm continuum, HI and 12CO-line data from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey in the direction of SN 1572 and surrounding region. We construct HI absorption spectra to SN 1572 and three nearby compact sources. We conclude that SN 1572 has no molecular cloud interaction, which argues against previous claims that a molecular cloud is interacting with the SNR. This new result does n…
We present the results of 12CO J = 1-0 line observations of eleven Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) obtained using the Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory (SRAO) 6-m radio telescope. The observation was made as a part of the SRAO CO survey of SNRs between l = 70 and 190 deg, which is intended to identify SNRs interacting with molecular clouds. The mapping areas for the individual SNRs are determined to cover their full extent in the radio continuum. We used halfbeam grid spacing (60") for 9 SNRs and full-beam grid spacing (120") for the rest. We detected CO emission towards most of the remnant…
We present the results of infrared (IR; 2.5--160 um) observations of the supernova remnant (SNR) Kes 17 based on the data obtained with the AKARI and Spitzer satellites. We first detect bright continuum emission of its western shell in the mid- and far-IR wavebands together with its near-IR molecular line emission. We also detect hidden mid-IR emission of its southern shell after subtraction of the background emission in this region. The far-IR luminosity of the western shell is ~ 8100 L_sun, which makes Kes 17 one of the few SNRs of significant far-IR emission. The fittings of the spectral en…
Being one of the most abundant atomic/molecular species observed in dense molecular gas, atomic carbon ($\mathrm{C}^0$) is a potential good tracer of molecular gas mass in many chemical/physical environments, though the $\mathrm{C^0}$ abundance variation outside the Galactic disk region is yet to be fully known. This paper presents a wide-field 500 GHz [CI] map of the Galactic central molecular zone (CMZ) obtained with the ASTE 10-m telescope. Principal component analysis and non-LTE multi-transition analysis have shown that the [CI] emission predominantly originates from the low-excitation ga…
There are about 70 Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) that are now confirmed or suggested to be in physical contact with molecular clouds (MCs) with six kinds of evidence of multiwavelength observations. Recent detailed CO-line spectroscopic mappings of a series of SNRs reveal them to be in cavities of molecular gas, implying the roles the progenitors may have played. We predict a linear correlation between the wind bubble sizes of main-sequence OB stars in a molecular environment and the stellar masses and discuss its implication for supernova progenitors. The molecular environments of SNRs c…
HESS J1858+020 is a weak gamma-ray source that does not have any clear cataloged counterpart at any wavelengths. Recently, the source G35.6-0.4 was re-identified as a SNR. The HESS source lies towards the southern border of this remnant. The purpose of this work is to investigate the interstellar medium around the mentioned sources in order to look for possible counterparts of the very-high energy emission. Using the 13CO J=1-0 line from the Galactic Ring Survey and mid-IR data from GLIMPSE we analyze the environs of HESS J1858+020 and SNR G35.6-0.4. The 13CO data show the presence of a molecu…
We have investigated the molecular environment of the semicircular composite supernova remnant (SNR) 3C396 and performed a Chandra spatially resolved thermal X-ray spectroscopic study of this young SNR. With our CO millimeter observations, we find that the molecular clouds (MCs) at V(LSR)~84km/s can better explain the multiwavelength properties of the remnant than the V(LSR)=67-72km/s MCs that are suggested by Lee et al. (2009). At around 84km/s, the western boundary of the SNR is perfectly confined by the western molecular wall. The CO emission fades out from west to east, indicating that the…
This work aims at investigating the molecular gas component in the vicinity of two young stellar object (YSO) candidates identified at the border of the HII region G034.8-0.7 that is evolving within a molecular cloud shocked by the SNR W44. The purpose is to explore signatures of star forming activity in this complex region. We performed a near and mid infrared study towards the border of the HII region G034.8-0.7 and observed a 90" X 90" region near 18h 56m 48s, +01d 18' 45" (J2000) using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3--2, 13CO J=3--2, HCO+ J=4--3 and CS…
Supernovae constitute a critical source of energy input to the interstellar medium (ISM). In this short review, we focus on their latest phase of evolution, the supernova remnants (SNRs). We present observations of three old SNRs that have reached the phase where they interact with the ambient ISM: W28, IC443, and 3C391. We show that such objects make up clean laboratories to constrain the physical and chemical processes at work in molecular shock environments. Our studies subsequently allow us to quantify the impact of SNRs on their environment in terms of mass, momentum, and energy dissipati…
3C 397 is a radio and X-ray bright Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) with an unusual rectangular morphology. Our CO observation obtained with the Purple Mountain Observatory at Delingha reveals that the remnant is well confined in a cavity of molecular gas, and embedded at the edge of a molecular cloud (MC) at the local standard of rest systemic velocity of ~32 km/s. The cloud has a column density gradient increasing from southeast to northwest, perpendicular to the Galactic plane, in agreement with the elongation direction of the remnant. This systemic velocity places the cloud and SNR 3C 397 …
We report ALMA and SMA observations of the luminous infrared merger NGC 3256, the most luminous galaxy within z=0.01. Both of the two merger nuclei separated by 5" (0.8 kpc) on the sky have a compact concentration of molecular gas, i.e., nuclear disks with Sigma_mol > 10^3 Msun pc^-2. The one at the northern nucleus is face-on while the southern nuclear disk is almost edge-on. The northern nucleus is more massive and has molecular arcs and spiral arms around. The high-velocity molecular gas previously found in the system is resolved to two molecular outflows associated with each of the two nuc…
We use radio-continuum all-sky surveys at 1420 and 408 MHz with the aim to investigate properties of the Galactic radio source Lupus Loop. The survey data at 1435 MHz, with the linear polarization of the southern sky, is also used. We calculate properties of this supernova remnant: the brightness temperature, surface brightness and radio spectral index. For determining borders and calculation of its properties, we use the method we have developed. The non-thermal nature of its radiation is confirmed. The distribution of spectral index over its area is also given. A significant correlation betw…
Context: Supernovae (SNe) inject large amounts of energy and chemically enriched materials into their surrounding interstellar medium and, in some instances, into molecular clouds (MCs). The interaction of a supernova remnant (SNR) with a MC plays a crucial role in the evolution of the cloud's physical and chemical properties. Despite their importance, only a handful of studies have been made addressing the molecular richness in MCs impacted by SNRs. (Sub)millimter wavelength observations of SNR-MC can be used to build a census of their molecular richness, which in turn can motivate various ch…
During detailed searches for new Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Anglo Australian Observatory/United Kingdom Schmidt Telescope (AAO/UKST) HAlpha survey of the southern Galactic plane, we also uncovered, for the first time, possible associated HAlpha emission in the vicinity of about 24 known Galactic SNRs previously known solely from radio or X-ray observations. The possible optical counterparts to these known SNR were detected due to the 1 arcsecond resolution and 5 Rayleigh sensitivity of this HAlpha survey. The newly discovered emission frequently exhibits the typical filamentary f…
We present the results of CO emission line observations toward the semicircular Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) 3C434.1 (G94.0+1.0). We mapped an area covering the whole SNR in the 12CO J=1-0 emission line using the Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory (SRAO) 6-m telescope, and found a large molecular cloud superposed on the faint western part of the SNR. The cloud was elongated along the north-south direction and showed a very good spatial correlation with the radio features of the SNR. We carried out 12CO J=2-1 line observations of this cloud using the Kölner Observatorium für Sub-Millimeter A…
An almost perfect round hole of CO-line emission with a diameter of 3.7 pc was found in a molecular cloud (MC) centered on G35.75-0.25 ($l = 35^\circ.75, b = -0^\circ.25$) at radial velocity of 28 km s$^{-1}$. The hole is quiet in radio continuum emission, unlike the usual supernova remnants (SNR), and the molecular edge is only weakly visible in 8 and 24 $μ$m dust emissions. The hole may be either a fully evolved molecular bubble around a young stellar object (YSO), or a relic of a radio-quiet SNR that has already stopped expansion after rapid evolution in the dense MC as a buried SNR. Becaus…
The H2O Southern Galactic Plane Survey (HOPS) has mapped 100 square degrees of the Galactic plane for water masers and thermal molecular line emission using the 22-m Mopra telescope. We describe the automated spectral-line fitting pipelines used to determine the properties of emission detected in HOPS datacubes, and use these to derive the physical and kinematic properties of gas in the survey. A combination of the angular resolution, sensitivity, velocity resolution and high critical density of lines targeted make the HOPS data cubes ideally suited to finding precursor clouds to the most mass…
We present a study of a new molecular shell, G126.1-0.8-14, using available multiwavelegth Galactic plane surveys and optical Gemini observations. A well defined shell-like structure is observed in the CO(1--0) line emission at (l,b) = (126.1, -0.8), in the velocity range --10.5 to --15.5 km/s. The HI, emission shows a region of low emissivity inside G126.1-0.8-14, while radio continuum observations reveal faint non-thermal emission possibly related to this shell. Optical spectra obtained with Gemini South show the existence of B-type stars likely to be associated with G126.1-0.8-14. An estima…
We find a linear relationship between the size of a massive star's main-sequence bubble in a molecular environment and the star's initial mass: R_b \approx 1.22M/Msun - 9.16 pc, assuming a constant interclump pressure. Since stars in the mass range of 8 to 25-30 Msun will end their evolution in the red supergiant phase without launching a Wolf-Rayet wind, the main-sequence wind-blown bubbles are mainly responsible for the extent of molecular gas cavities, while the effect of the photoionization is comparatively small. This linear relation can thus be used to infer the masses of the massive sta…
Many supernova remnants (SNRs) are considered to evolve in molecular environments, but the associations between SNRs and molecular clouds (MCs) are often unclear. Being aware of such ambiguous case, we report our study on the molecular environment towards the SNR G43.9+1.6 by CO line observations. We investigated the correlations between the SNR and MCs at different velocities, and found two velocity components, i.e. $\sim$5 km s$^{-1}$ and $\sim$50 km s$^{-1}$ velocity components, showing spatial correlations with the remnant. However, no dynamical evidence of disturbance was found for the $\…
HESS J1858+020 is a weak gamma-ray source lying near the southern border of the SNR G35.6-0.4. A molecular cloud, composed by two clumps, shows signs of interaction with the SNR and with a nearby extended HII region. In particular, the southernmost clump coincides with the center of the HESS source. In this work we study this clump in detail with the aim of adding information that helps in the identification of the nature of the very-high energy emission. We observed the mentioned molecular clump using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3-2, 13CO J=3-2, HCO+ J=…
RX J1713.7-3946 is one of the TeV γ-ray supernova remnants (SNRs) emitting synchrotron X rays. The SNR is associated with molecular gas located at ~1 kpc. We made new molecular observations toward the dense cloud cores, peaks A, C and D, in the SNR in the 12CO(J=2-1) and 13CO(J=2-1) transitions at angular resolution of 90". The most intense core in 13CO, peak C, was also mapped in the 12CO(J=4-3) transition at angular resolution of 38". Peak C shows strong signs of active star formation including bipolar outflow and a far-infrared protostellar source and has a steep gradient with a r^{-2.2$\pm…
Sgr B2 is a well-known star forming molecular cloud complex in the Galactic center region showing evidence of high energy activity as traced by the K$α$ neutral FeI line at 6.4 keV, as well as GeV and TeV $γ$-ray emission. Here we present VLA and GMRT observations with respective resolutions of $\approx3.5"\times1.2"$ and 25$"\times25"$ and report the detection of an OH(1720 MHz) maser, with no accompanying OH 1665, 1667 and 1612 MHz maser emission. The maser coincides with a 150 MHz nonthermal radio source in Sgr B2(M). This rare class of OH(1720 MHz) masers or the so-called supernova remnant…
We perform a multiwavelength study toward the SNR G18.1-0.1 and nearby several HII regions (infrared dust bubbles N21 and N22, and the HII regions G018.149-00.283 and G18.197-00.181). Our goal is to provide observational evidence supporting that massive stars usually born in clusters from the same molecular cloud, which then produce, along their evolution, different neighboring objects such as HII regions, interstellar bubbles and supernova remnants. We suggest that the objects analysed in this work belong to a same complex located at the distance of about 4 kpc. Using molecular data we inspec…
We carry out three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the supernova remnants (SNRs) produced inside molecular clouds (MCs) near their surface using the HLL code (Harten et al. 1983). We explore the dynamical evolution and the X-ray morphology of SNRs after breaking through the MC surface for ranges of the explosion depths below the surface and the density ratios of the clouds to the intercloud media (ICM). We find that if an SNR breaks out through an MC surface in its Sedov stage, the outermost dense shell of the remnant is divided into several layers. The divided layers are subject to th…
The Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) IC443 is one of the most studied core-collapse SNRs for its interaction with molecular clouds. However, the ambient molecular clouds with which IC443 is interacting have not been thoroughly studied and remain poorly understood. Using Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory 14m telescope, we obtained fully sampled maps of ~ 1° \times 1° region toward IC443 in the 12CO J=1-0 and HCO+ J=1-0 lines. In addition to the previously known molecular clouds in the velocity range v_lsr = -6 to -1 km/s (-3 km/s clouds), our observations reveal two new ambient molecular…
We present the first results from a new carbon monoxide (CO) survey of the southern Galactic plane being conducted with the Mopra radio telescope in Australia. The 12CO, 13CO and C18O J=1-0 lines are being mapped over the l = 305-345 deg, b = +/- 0.5 deg portion of the 4th quadrant of the Galaxy, at 35" spatial and 0.1 km/s spectral resolution. The survey is being undertaken with two principal science objectives: (i) to determine where and how molecular clouds are forming in the Galaxy and (ii) to probe the connection between molecular clouds and the "missing" gas inferred from gamma-ray obser…
Supernova remnant (SNR) G106.3+2.7 was recently found to be one of the few potential Galactic hadronic PeVatrons. Aiming to test how solid the SNR is associated with the molecular clouds (MCs) that are thought to be responsible for hadronic interaction, we performed a new CO observation with the IRAM 30m telescope toward its "belly" region, which is coincident with the centroid of the $γ$-ray emission. There is a filament structure in the local-standard-of-rest velocity interval $-8$ to $-5$ km/s that nicely follows the northern radio boundary of the SNR. We have seen asymmetric broad profiles…
We study the large-scale magnetic field structure and its interplay with the gas dynamics in the Monoceros OB1 East molecular cloud. We combine observations of dust polarised emission from the Planck telescope and CO molecular line emission observations from the Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory 14-metre telescope. We calculate the strength of the plane-of-the-sky magnetic field using a modified Chandrasekhar-Fermi method and estimate mass over flux ratios in different regions of the cloud. We use the comparison of the velocity and intensity gradients of the molecular line observations with t…
In recent works, through observations of molecular lines, we found that the supernova remnant (SNR) G18.8+0.3 is interacting with a molecular cloud towards its southern edge. Also it has been proven the presence of several neighboring HII regions very likely located at the same distance as the remnant. The presence of dense molecular gas and the existence of shock fronts generated by the SNR and HII regions make this region an interesting scenario to study the population of young stellar objects. Thus, using the most modern colour criteria applied to the emission in the mid-infrared bands obta…
Aims. We study the X-ray emission of the galactic supernova remnant (SNR) G18.95-1.1 with the eROSITA telescope on board the Spectrum Rentgen Gamma (SRG) orbital observatory. In addition to the pulsar wind nebula that was previously identified and examined by ASCA and Chandra, we study the X-ray spectra of the bright SNR ridge, which is resolved into a few bright clumps. Methods. The wide field of view and the large collecting area in the 0.2-2.3 keV energy range of SRG/eROSITA allowed us to perform spatially resolved spectroscopy of G18.95-1.1. Results. The X-ray ridge of G18.95-1.1 is asymme…
RX J0046.5$-$7308 is a shell-type supernova remnant (SNR) in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). We carried out new $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0, 3-2) observations toward the SNR using Mopra and the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment. We found eight molecular clouds (A-H) along the X-ray shell of the SNR. The typical cloud size and mass are $\sim$10-15 pc and $\sim$1000-3000 $M_{\odot}$, respectively. The X-ray shell is slightly deformed and has the brightest peak in the southwestern shell where two molecular clouds A and B are located. The four molecular clouds A, B, F, and G have high intensity…
We have carried out a study of the interstellar medium (ISM) toward a shell-like supernova remnant SNR Puppis A by using the NANTEN CO and ATCA HI data. We synthesized a comprehensive picture of the SNR radiation by combining the ISM data with the gamma-ray and X-ray distributions. The ISM, both atomic and molecular gas, is dense and highly clumpy, and is distributed all around the SNR, but mainly in the north-east. The CO distribution revealed an enhanced line intensity ratio of CO($J$ = 2-1)/($J$ = 1-0) transitions as well as CO line broadening, which indicate shock heating/acceleration. The…
We carried out $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0) observations of the Galactic gamma-ray supernova remnant (SNR) Kesteven 79 using the Nobeyama Radio Observatory 45 m radio telescope, which has an angular resolution of $\sim20$ arcsec. We identified molecular and atomic gas interacting with Kesteven 79 whose radial velocity is $\sim80$ km s$^{-1}$. The interacting molecular and atomic gases show good spatial correspondence with the X-ray and radio shells, which have an expanding motion with an expanding velocity of $\sim4$ km s$^{-1}$. The molecular gas associated with the radio and X-ray peaks also exhibit…
Whether the progenitors of SNe Ia are single-degenerate or double-degenerate white dwarf (WD) systems is a highly debated topic. To address the origin of the Type Ia Tycho's supernova remnant (SNR), SN 1572, we have carried out a $^{12}$CO J=2-1 mapping and a 3-mm line survey toward the remnant using the IRAM 30 m telescope. We show that Tycho is surrounded by a clumpy molecular bubble at a local standard of rest velocity of $\sim 61$ km s$^{-1}$ which expands at a speed of $\sim 4.5$ km s$^{-1}$ and has a mass of $\sim 220$ M$_\odot$ (at the distance of 2.5 kpc). Enhanced $^{12}$CO J=2-1 line…
Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) and their environments provide the nearest laboratories to study SN feedback. We performed molecular observations toward SNR W49B, the most luminous Galactic SNR in the X-ray band, aiming to explore signs of multiple feedback channels of SNRs on nearby molecular clouds (MCs). We found very broad HCO+ lines with widths of dv = 48--75 km/s in the SNR southwest, providing strong evidence that W49B is perturbing MCs at a systemic velocity of $V_{LSR}=61$--65 km/s, and placing W49B at a distance of $7.9\pm 0.6$ kpc. We observed unusually high-intensity ratios of H…
Supernova remnants (SNRs) contribute to regulate the star formation efficiency and evolution of galaxies. As they expand into the interstellar medium (ISM), they transfer vast amounts of energy and momentum that displace, compress and heat the surrounding material. Despite the extensive work in galaxy evolution models, it remains to be observationally validated to what extent the molecular ISM is affected by the interaction with SNRs. We use the first results of the ESO-ARO Public Spectroscopic Survey SHREC, to investigate the shock interaction between the SNR IC443 and the nearby molecular cl…
We suggest a revised distance to the supernova remnant (SNR) G109.1-1.0 (CTB 109) and its associated anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP) 1E 2259+586 by analyzing 21cm HI-line and 12CO-line spectra of CTB 109, HII region Sh 152, and the adjacent molecular cloud complex. CTB 109 has been established to be interacting with a large molecular cloud (recession velocity at v=-55 km s^-1). The highest radial velocities of absorption features towards CTB 109 (-56 km s^-1) and Sh 152 (-65 km s^-1) are larger than the recombination line velocity (-50 km s^-1) of Sh 152 demonstrating the velocity reversal within…
We present a new analysis of the interstellar protons toward the TeV $γ$-ray SNR RX J0852.0$-$4622 (G266.2$-$1.2, Vela Jr.). We used the NANTEN2 $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0) and ATCA & Parkes HI datasets in order to derive the molecular and atomic gas associated with the TeV $γ$-ray shell of the SNR. We find that atomic gas over a velocity range from $V_\mathrm{LSR}$ = $-4$ km s$^{-1}$ to 50 km s$^{-1}$ or 60 km s$^{-1}$ is associated with the entire SNR, while molecular gas is associated with a limited portion of the SNR.
