We report the results of photometry of the WZ Sge-type dwarf nova V455 And. Observations were obtained over 19 nights in 2013 and 2014. The total duration of the observations was 96 h. We clearly detected three coherent oscillations with periods of 80.376+/-0.003 min, 40.5431+/-0.0004 min and 67.619685+/-0.000040 s. The 67.619685-s period can be the spin period of the white dwarf. The 40.5431-minute period is the first harmonic of the orbital period. The 80.376-minute oscillation can be a negative superhump because its period is 0.9% less than the orbital period. This oscillation was evident both in the data of 2013 and in the data of 2014. These results make V455 And a permanent superhump system which shows negative superhumps. This is also the first detection of persistent negative superhumps in a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova. In addition, the analysis of our data revealed incoherent oscillations with periods in the range 5-6 min, which were observed earlier and accounted for by non-radial pulsations of the white dwarf. Moreover, we clearly detected an oscillation with a period of 67.28+/-0.03 s, which was of a low degree of coherence. This oscillation conforms to the beat between the spin period of the white dwarf and the 3.5-h spectroscopic period, which was discovered earlier and accounted for by the free precession of the white dwarf. Because the 67.28-s period is shorter than the spin period and because the free precession of the white dwarf is retrograde, we account for the 67.28-s oscillation by the free precession of the white dwarf.
We have summarized the current understanding and recently obtained findings about WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. We also reviewed the historical development of the understanding of these objects, provided the modern criteria, and reviewed the past research in relation to superhumps, early superhumps and the outburst mechanism. We regard that the presence of early superhumps (reflecting the 2:1 resonance) and long or multiple rebrightenings are the best distinguishing properties of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. We provided the updated list of nearly 100 WZ Sge-type dwarf novae mainly based on the data obt…
In Kato (2015, arXiv:1507.07659), I suggested that the magnitude when ordinary superhumps appear can be a standard candle for WZ Sge stars. Using Gaia EDR3 parallaxes, I studied 53 WZ Sge stars to examine this suggestion. The analysis indicated that the absolute magnitudes when ordinary superhumps appear are strongly dependent on orbital inclinations, which is consistent with what is expected for the projected area for optical thick accretion disks. I showed that there is a linear relation between these absolute magnitudes and logarithmic amplitudes of early superhumps, which are also dependen…
In 2015 and 2017, the AM CVn candidate NSV 1440 showed superoutbursts having the characteristic features of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae (DNe). By analogy with hydrogen-rich cataclysmic variables (CVs), we can interpret these outbursts as `double superoutbursts' which are composed of the first superoutburst with early superhumps and the second superoutburst with ordinary superhumps. The object also showed multiple rebrightenings after the main superoutbursts. Early superhumps had been never observed in AM CVn stars and candidates, thus NSV 1440 is the first confirmed WZ Sge-type AM CVn candidate. W…
We report on photometric observations of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae, MASTER OT J211258.65+242145.4 and MASTER OT J203749.39+552210.3 which underwent outbursts in 2012. Early superhumps were recorded in both systems. During superoutburst plateau, ordinary superhumps with a period of 0.060291(4) d (MASTER J211258) and of 0.061307(9) d (MASTER J203749) in average were observed. MASTER J211258 and MASTER J203749 exhibited eight and more than four post-superoutburst rebrightenings, respectively. In the final part of the superoutburst, an increase in the superhump periods was seen in both systems. We h…

In the first days of WZ Sge-type dwarf nova (DN) outbursts, the 2:1 resonance induces a spiral arm structure in the accretion disk, which is observed as early superhumps in optical light curves. This paper reports our optical observations of an eclipsing WZ Sge-type DN PNV J00444033+4113068 during its 2021 superoutburst with the 3.8m Seimei telescope and through VSNET collaboration. The eclipse analysis gave its orbital period as 0.055425534(1) d. Our observations confirmed early superhumps with an amplitude of 0.7 mag, the largest amplitude among known WZ Sge-type DNe. More interestingly, its…
We report on optical and infrared photometric observations of a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova, V455 And during a superoutburst in 2007. These observations were performed with the KANATA (V, J, and K_s bands) and MITSuME (g', Rc, and Ic bands) telescopes. Our 6-band simultaneous observations allowed us to investigate the temporal variation of the temperature and the size of the emitting region associated with the superoutburst and short-term modulations, such as early and ordinary superhumps. A hot (>11000 K) accretion disk suddenly disappeared when the superoutburst finished, while blackbody emission…
We present the result of a multi-longitude campaign on the photometric study of the dwarf nova ASASSN-18fk during its superoutburst in 2018. It was observed with 18 telescopes at 15 sites during ~70 nights within a three-month interval. Observations covered the main outburst, six rebrightenings and 50-d decline to a near-quiescent state. We identify ASASSN-18fk as WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with multiple rebrightenings and show the evolution of the 0.06-d superhump period over all stages of the superoutburst. A strong 22-min brightness modulation that superimposed on superhumps is found during reb…
We present our photometric studies of the newly discovered optical transient, OT J012059.6+325545, which underwent a large outburst between 2010 November and 2011 January. The amplitude of the outburst was about 8 mag. We performed simultaneous multi-color photometry by using g', Rc, and i'-band filters from the early stage of the outburst. The time resolved photometry during the early stage revealed periodic variations with double-peaked profiles, which are referred to as early superhumps, with amplitudes of about 0.08 mag. After the rapid fading from the main outburst, we found rebrightening…
We observed the 2015 July-August long outburst of V1006 Cyg and established this object to be an SU UMa-type dwarf nova in the period gap. Our observations have confirmed that V1006 Cyg is the second established object showing three types of outbursts (normal, long normal and superoutbursts) after TU Men. We have succeeded in recording the growing stage of superhumps (stage A superhumps) and obtained a mass ratio of 0.26-0.33, which is close to the stability limit of tidal instability. This identification of stage A superhumps demonstrated that superhumps indeed slowly grow in systems near the…
We report on our photometric observations of the 2016 superoutburst of ASASSN-16eg. This object showed a WZ Sge-type superoutburst with prominent early superhumps with a period of 0.075478(8) d and a post-superoutburst rebrightening. During the superoutburst plateau, it showed ordinary superhumps with a period of 0.077880(3) d and a period derivative of 10.6(1.1) $\times$ 10$^{-5}$ in stage B. The orbital period ($P_{\rm orb}$), which is almost identical with the period of early superhumps, is exceptionally long for a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova. The mass ratio ($q$ = $M_2/M_1$) estimated from the …
We present optical photometry of a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova (DN), ASASSN-15jd. Its light curve showed a small dip in the middle of the superoutburst in 2015 for the first time among WZ Sge-type DNe. The unusual light curve implies a delay in the growth of the 3:1 resonance tidal instability. Also, the light curve is similar to those of other two WZ Sge-type stars, SSS J122221.7$-$311523 and OT J184228.1$+$483742, which are believed to be the best candidates for a period bouncer on the basis of their small values of the mass ratio ($q \equiv M_{2}/M_{1}$). Additionally, the small mean superhump a…
WZ Sge-type dwarf novae are characterized by long recurrence times of outbursts (~10 yr) and short orbital periods (<~ 85 min). A significant part of WZ Sge stars may remain undiscovered because of low outburst activity. Recently, the observed orbital period distribution of cataclysmic variables (CVs) has changed partly because outbursts of new WZ Sge stars have been discovered routinely. Hence, the estimation of the intrinsic population of WZ Sge stars is important for the study of the population and evolution of CVs. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach to estimate the intrinsic per…
We present an analysis of all available time-resolved photometry from the literature and new light curves obtained in 2013-2014 for the old nova RR Pictoris. The well-known hump light curve phased with the orbital period reveals significant variations over the last 42 years in shape, amplitude and other details which apparently are caused by long-term variations in the disc structure. In addition we found evidence for the presence of superhumps in 2007, with the same period (~9% longer than the orbital period), as reported earlier by other authors from observations in 2005. Possibly, superhump…
We report on multicolor photometry of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae, HV Vir and OT J012059.6+325545 during superoutbursts. These systems show early superhumps with the mean periods of 0.057093(45) d for HV Vir and 0.057147(15) d for OT J012059.6+325545, respectively. The observed early superhumps showed a common feature that the brightness minima correspond to the bluest peaks in color variations, which may be a ubiquitous phenomenon among early superhumps of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. We confirmed that amplitudes of early superhumps depend on wavelength: amplitudes with longer bandpass filters show l…
ASASSN-14dx showed an extraordinary outburst whose features are the small outburst amplitude (~ 2.3 mag) and long duration (> 4 years). Because we found a long observational gap of 123 d before the outburst detection, we propose that the main outburst plateau was missed and that this outburst is just a "fading tail" often seen after the WZ Sge-type superoutbursts. In order to distinguish between WZ Sge and SU UMa-type dwarf novae (DNe), we investigated Gaia DR2 statistically. We applied a logistic regression model and succeeded in classifying by using absolute Gaia magnitudes $M_{G}$ and Gaia …
The multi-site photometric observations of MN Dra were made over 77 nights in August-November, 2009. The total exposure was 433 hours. During this time the binary underwent two superoutbursts and five normal outbursts. During the course of first superoutburst period of positive superhumps decreased with extremely large $\dot P = -1.5 \times 1.0^{-4}$ for SU UMa-like dwarf novae, confirming known behavior of MN Dra [1]. Between the superoutbursts MN Dra displayed negative superhumps. Their period changed cyclically around 0.096-day value.
We analyzed the Kepler long cadence data of KIC 7524178 (=KIS J192254.92+430905.4), and found that it is an SU UMa-type dwarf nova with frequent normal outbursts. The signal of the negative superhump was always the dominant one even during the superoutburst, in contrast to our common knowledge about superhumps in dwarf novae. The signal of the positive superhump was only transiently seen during the superoutburst, and it quickly decayed after the superoutburst. The frequency variation of the negative superhump was similar to the two previously studied dwarf novae in the Kepler field, V1504 Cyg …
We report CCD photometry of the superoutburst of the dwarf nova V1212 Tau obtained during 2011 January and February. The outburst amplitude was at least 6 magnitudes and it lasted at least 12 days. Three distinct superhump regimes were observed. Initially low amplitude superhumps (0.03 to 0.05 magnitude peak-to-peak) with Psh = 0.0782(52) d were present. The superhumps reached a maximum amplitude of 0.31 magnitudes at the beginning of the plateau phase, with Psh = 0.07031(96) d. Subsequently the star began to fade slowly. During the first part of the decline, the period increased with dPsh/dt …
LS And was a transient discovered in 1971 in the M31 region and it has been argued whether it could be an intergalactic nova or a dwarf nova. Using the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) data, I found that the object underwent the second known outburst in 2022 April. The behavior was that of a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with a long fading tail and the light curves of the 1971 and 2022 outbursts matched very well. The light curves suggest that LS And is a typical WZ Sge-type dwarf nova near (but before reaching) the period minimum of cataclysmic variables. The true observed peak of the 1971 outburst w…
We observed the 2016 outburst of OT J002656.6+284933 (CSS101212:002657+284933) and found that it has the longest recorded [0.13225(1) d in average] superhumps among SU UMa-type dwarf novae. The object is the third known SU UMa-type dwarf nova above the period gap. The outburst, however, was unlike ordinary long-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae in that it showed two post-outburst rebrightenings. It showed superhump evolution similar to short-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We could constrain the mass ratio to less than 0.15 (most likely between 0.10 and 0.15) by using superhump periods in the ear…
We systematically surveyed period variations of superhumps in SU UMa-type dwarf novae based on newly obtained data and past publications. In many systems, the evolution of superhump period are found to be composed of three distinct stages: early evolutionary stage with a longer superhump period, middle stage with systematically varying periods, final stage with a shorter, stable superhump period. During the middle stage, many systems with superhump periods less than 0.08 d show positive period derivatives. Contrary to the earlier claim, we found no clear evidence for variation of period deriva…
We report unfiltered CCD observations of the first confirmed superoutburst of the dwarf nova RX J1715.6+6856 in August 2009. At quiescence the star was magnitude 18.3 (CCD, clear). The outburst amplitude was at least 2.4 magnitudes and it lasted at least 6 days, although the first part of the outburst was probably missed. Analysis of the light curve revealed superhumps with peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.1 magnitude, thereby showing it to be a member of the SU UMa family. The mean superhump period was Psh = 0.07086(78) d with a superhump period excess of epsilon = 0.038 and an estimated mass rati…
We report unfiltered photometry during superoutbursts of PU UMa in 2009 and 2012. The amplitude was 4.5 magnitudes above mean quiescence and lasted at least 9 to 10 days. Superhumps were present with a peak-to-peak amplitude of up to ~0.3 mag, thereby confirming it to be a member of the SU UMa family of dwarf novae. The mean superhump period during the later part of the 2012 outburst was Psh = 0.08076(40) d. Analysis of the eclipse times of minimum, supplemented with data from other researchers, revealed an orbital period of Porb = 0.077880551(17) d. The superhump period excess was epsilon = 0…
In 2015 March, the notable WZ Sge-type dwarf nova AL Com exhibited an unusual outburst with a recurrence time of ${\sim}$1.5 yr, which is the shortest interval of superoutbursts among WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. Early superhumps in the superoutburst light curve were absent, and a precursor was observed at the onset of the superoutburst for the first time in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. The present superoutburst can be interpreted as a result of the condition that the disk radius barely reached the 3:1 resonance radius, but did not reach the 2:1 resonance one. Ordinary superhumps immediately grew foll…
Contribution from the irradiated secondary component is detected in the light curves of five dwarf novae observed during superoutbursts. Their superhump light curves show that irradiation is modulated with the superhump phase. This strengthens the new interpretation of superhumps (Smak 2009) as being due to irradiation controlled mass transfer rate resulting in modulated dissipation of the kinetic energy of the stream.
We report the results of 67h of CCD photometry of the recently discovered dwarf nova SDSS J210014.12+004446.0. The data were obtained on 24 nights spanning a month. During this time we observed four ordinary outbursts lasting about 2-3 days and reaching an amplitude of ~1.7 mag. On all nights our light curve revealed persistent modulation with the stable period of 0.081088(3) days. These humps were already observed on one night by Tramposch et al. (2005), who additionally observed superhumps during a superoutburst. Remarkably, from scant evidence at their disposal they were able to discern the…
We report on multicolour photometry of the short period dwarf nova CSS130418:174033+414756 during the 2013 superoutburst. The system showed an unusually short superhump period with 0.046346(67) d during stage A, which is one of the shortest periods among dwarf novae below the period minimum. We found that the bluest peaks in $g' - I_{\rm c}$ colour variations tend to coincide with the brightness minima of the superhump modulations. We also studied nightly-averaged superhump amplitudes in $g'$, $R_{\rm c}$, and $I_{\rm c}$ bands and found that they have less dependence on wavelength. These prop…
We report unfiltered CCD photometry of the eclipsing dwarf nova SDSS J093249.57+472523.0 obtained during its first confirmed outburst in 2011 March. The outburst amplitude was at least 3.0 magnitudes above mean quiescence and it lasted at least 11 days, although we missed the beginning of the outburst. Superhumps having peak-to-peak amplitude up to 0.3 magnitudes were present during the outburst, thereby establishing it to be a member of the SU UMa family. The mean superhump period was Psh = 0.06814(11) d. Analysis of our measurements of eclipse times of minimum, supplemented with data from ot…
A radial velocity study is presented of the cataclysmic variable V378 Pegasi (PG 2337+300). It is found to have an orbital period of 0.13858 +/- 0.00004 d (3.32592 +/- 0.00096 hours). Its spectrum and long-term light curve suggest that V378 Peg is a nova-like variable, with no outbursts. We use the approximate distance and position in the Galaxy of V378 Peg to estimate E(B-V) = 0.095, and use near-infrared magnitudes to calculate a distance of 680 +/- 90 pc and M_V = 4.68 +/- 0.70, consistent with V378 Peg being a nova-like. Time-resolved photometry taken between 2001 and 2009 reveals a period…
The timing capabilities and sensitivity of Kepler, NASA's observatory to find Earth-sized planets within the habitable zone of stars, are well matched to the timescales and amplitudes of accretion disk variability in cataclysmic variables. This instrumental combination provides an unprecedented opportunity to test and refine stellar accretion paradigms with high-precision, uniform data, containing none of the diurnal or season gaps that limit ground-based observations. We present a 3-month, 1 minute cadence Kepler light curve of V344 Lyr, a faint, little-studied dwarf nova within the Kepler fi…
Superhumps are among the abundant variable phenomena observed in the light curves of cataclysmic variables (CVs). They come in two flavours as positive and negative superhumps, distinguished by periods slightly longer or shorter, respectively, than the orbital periods of these interacting binary systems. Positive superhumps are ubiquitous in superoutbursting short period dwarf novae of the SU~UMa type but are less common in longer period systems with accretion disks in a permanent bright state such as novalike variables and most old novae. Negative superhumps do not seem not to have a preferen…
During July 2009 we observed the first confirmed superoutburst of the eclipsing dwarf nova SDSS J150240.98+333423.9 using CCD photometry. The outburst amplitude was at least 3.9 magnitudes and it lasted at least 16 days. Superhumps having up to 0.35 peak-to-peak amplitude were present during the outburst, thereby establishing it to be a member of the SU UMa family. The mean superhump period during the first 4 days of the outburst was Psh = 0.06028(19) d, although it increased during the outburst with dPsh/dt = + 2.8(1.0) x 10-4. The orbital period was measured as Porb = 0.05890946(5) d from ti…
We report unfiltered photometry of BG Arietis (= SDSS J015151.87+140047.2) in 2009 and 2010 which shows the presence of superhumps with peak-to-peak amplitude of up to 0.36 magnitudes showing this to be an SU UMa type dwarf nova. The outburst amplitude was 5.1 magnitudes above a mean quiescence magnitude of 19.9. The 2010 event lasted at least 20 days during which we observed a precursor outburst which was immediately followed by a superoutburst. Modulations were observed during the rise to superoutburst with a period approximately half Porb. The mean superhump period during the plateau phase …
Recently, brightness variations occurring on twice the accretion disk precession period in the old nova and permanent superhump system V603 Aql have been observed by Bruch & Cook (2018). In an attempt to detect a similar effect in other cataclysmic variables reported to contain permanent superhumps the novalike variable UU Aqr was observed during 11 nights in September 2018. While no traces of superhumps were seen in the data, rendering the quest for variations related to the disk precession period obsolete, the system exhibits regular variations with a period of ~4 days.
We observed ASASSN-19ax during the long outburst in 2021 September-October. The object has been confirmed to be an SU UMa-type dwarf nova with a superhump period of 0.1000-0.1001 d. This object showed two post-superoutburst rebrightenings both in the 2019 and 2021 superoutbursts. These observations have established that ASASSN-19ax belongs to a group of long-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae which show multiple rebrightenings. This phenomenon probably arises from premature quenching of the superoutburst due to the weak 3:1 resonance near the stability border of the resonance, resulting in a consi…
Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we studied 86 SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We confirmed the general trends such as the relation between period derivatives and orbital periods. There are some systems showing positive period derivatives despite the long orbital periods. We observed the 2011 outburst of the WZ Sge-type dwarf nova BW Scl, and recorded an O-C diagram similar to those of previously known WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. The WZ Sge-type dwarf nova OT J184228.1+483742 showed an unusual pattern of double outbursts composed of an outburst with early superhum…
As an extension of the project in Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 61 SU UMa-type dwarf novae mainly observed during the 2009-2010 season. The newly obtained data confirmed the basic findings reported in Kato et al. (2009): the presence of stages A-C, as well as the predominance of positive period derivatives during stage B in systems with superhump periods shorter than 0.07 d. There was a systematic difference in period derivatives for systems with superhump periods longer than 0.075 d between this study and Kato et al. (2009). We suggest that th…
We present optical photometry of superoutbursts in 2016 of two WZ Sge-type dwarf novae (DNe), ASASSN-16dt and ASASSN-16hg. Their light curves showed a dip in brightness between the first plateau stage with no ordinary superhumps (or early superhumps) and the second plateau stage with ordinary superhumps. We find that the dip is produced by slow evolution of the 3:1 resonance tidal instability and that it would be likely observed in low mass-ratio objects. The estimated mass ratio ($q \equiv M_{2}/M_{1}$) from the period of developing (stage A) superhumps (0.06420(3) d) was 0.036(2) in ASASSN-1…
We present the 2005-2010 outburst history of the SUUMa-type dwarf HS 0417+7445,along with a detailed analysis of extensive time-series photometry obtained in March 2008 during the second recorded superoutburst of the system. The mean outburst interval is 197 \pm 59 d, with a median of 193 d. The March 2008 superoutburst was preceeded by a precursor outburst, had an amplitude of 4.2 magnitudes, and the whole event lasted about 16 days. No superhumps were detected during the decline from the precursor outburst, and our data suggests instead that orbital humps were present during that phase. Earl…
We report photometric and spectroscopic observations and analysis of the 2019 superoutburst of TCP J21040470+4631129. This object showed a 9-mag superoutburst with early superhumps and ordinary superhumps, which are the features of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. Five rebrightenings were observed after the main superoutburst. The spectra during the post-superoutburst stage showed the Balmer, He I and possible sodium doublet features. The mass ratio is derived as 0.0880(9) from the period of the superhump. During the third and fifth rebrightenings, growing superhumps and superoutbursts were observed, …
Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, PASJ, 61, S395, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 56 SU UMa-type dwarf novae mainly observed during the 2013-2014 season and characterized these objects. We detected negative superhumps in VW Hyi and indicated that the low number of normal outbursts in some supercycle can be interpreted as a result of the disk tilt. This finding, combined with the Kepler observation of V1504 Cyg and V344 Lyr, suggests that the disk tilt is responsible for modulating the outburst pattern in SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We also studied…
We analyzed a Kepler light curve of KIC 8751494, a recently recognized novalike cataclysmic variable in the Kepler field. We detected a stable periodicity of 0.114379(1) d, which we identified as being the binary's orbital period. The stronger photometric period around 0.12245 d, which had been detected from the ground-based observation, was found to be variable, and we identified this period as being the positive superhump period. This superhump period showed short-term (10-20 d) and strong variations in period most unexpectedly when the object entered a slightly faint state. The fractional s…
We studied the Kepler light curves of three SU UMa-type dwarf novae. Both the background dwarf nova of KIC 4378554 and V516 Lyr showed a combination of precursor-main superoutburst, during which superhumps always developed on the fading branch of the precursor. This finding supports the thermal-tidal instability theory as the origin of the superoutburst. A superoutburst of V585 Lyr recorded by Kepler did not show a precursor outburst and the superhumps developed only after the maximum light, a first example in the Kepler data so far. Such a superoutburst is understood within the thermal-tidal …
Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 128 SU UMa-type dwarf novae observed mainly during the 2015-2016 season and characterized these objects. The data have improved the distribution of orbital periods, the relation between the orbital period and the variation of superhumps, the relation between period variations and the rebrightening type in WZ Sge-type objects. Coupled with new measurements of mass ratios using growing stages of superhumps, we now have a clearer and statistically greatly improved evolutionary path …
We report unfiltered CCD photometry of the first confirmed superoutburst of the recently discovered dwarf nova, SDSS J083931.35+282824.0 in April 2010. From a quiescence magnitude of ~19.8 it rose to 14.0, an outburst amplitude of at least 5.8 magnitudes. Only the plateau phase of the outburst was observed during which superhumps with peak-to-peak amplitude of up to 0.28 magnitudes were present, confirming this to be an SU UMa type dwarf nova. The mean superhump period was Psh = 0.07836(2) during the first 3 days and this subsequently decreased to 0.07800(3) d. Analysis of the data revealed te…
CzeV404 is an SU UMa-type dwarf nova in the period gap. Kara et al. (2021) (arXiv:2107.02664) recently published photometric and spectroscopic observations and obtained a mass ratio q=0.16, which is in severe disagreement of q~0.32 estimated from superhump observations (Bakowska et al., 2014). I here present what analysis was wrong or outdated in Bakowska et al. (2014) and provide a new value of q=0.247(5), consistent with the known behavior of superhumps and the evolution of cataclysmic variables. CzeV404 does not look like an unusual dwarf nova as suggested by Kara et al. (2021) and I discus…
We report on time-resolved photometry of the 2015 February-March superoutburst of QZ Virginis. The superoutburst consisted of a separated precursor, main superoutburst, and rebrightening. We detected superhumps with a period of 0.061181(42) d between the precursor and main superoutburst. Based on analyses of period changes and amplitudes of superhumps, the observed superhumps were identified as growing superhumps (stage A superhumps). The duration of stage A superhumps was about 5 d, unusually long for SU UMa-type dwarf novae. Using the obtained stage A superhump period, we estimated the mass …
Variability on all time scales between seconds and decades is typical for cataclysmic variables (CVs). One of the brightest and best studied CVs is TT Ari, a nova-like variable which belongs to the VY Scl subclass, characterized by occasional low states in their light curves. It is also known as a permanent superhumper at high state, revealing "positive" (P_S > P_0) as well as "negative" (P_S < P_0) superhumps, where P_S is the period of the superhump and P_0 the orbital period. TT Ari was observed by the Canadian space telescope MOST for about 230 hours nearly continuously in 2007, with a tim…
We present results of a world-wide observing campaign of the eclipsing dwarf nova - HT Cas during its superoutburst in November 2010. Using collected data we were able to conduct analysis of the light curves and we calculated $O-C$ diagrams. The CCD photometric observations enabled us to derive the superhump period and with the timings of eclipses the orbital period was calculated. Based on superhump and orbital period estimations the period excess and mass ratio of the system were obtained.
