This paper is a theoretical study of the following Non-Rigid Structure from Motion problem. What can be computed from a monocular view of a parametrically deforming set of points? We treat various variations of this problem for affine and polynomial deformations with calibrated and uncalibrated cameras. We show that in general at least three images with quasi-identical two deformations are needed in order to have a finite set of solutions of the points' structure and calculate some simple examples.
We introduce an atlas of algebro-geometric objects associated with image formation in pinhole cameras. The nodes of the atlas are algebraic varieties or their vanishing ideals related to each other by projection or elimination and restriction or specialization respectively. This atlas offers a unifying framework for the study of problems in 3D computer vision. We initiate the study of the atlas by completely characterizing a part of the atlas stemming from the triangulation problem. We conclude with several open problems and generalizations of the atlas.

The lensless pinhole camera is perhaps the earliest and simplest form of an imaging system using only a pinhole-sized aperture in place of a lens. They can capture an infinite depth-of-field and offer greater freedom from optical distortion over their lens-based counterparts. However, the inherent limitations of a pinhole system result in lower sharpness from blur caused by optical diffraction and higher noise levels due to low light throughput of the small aperture, requiring very long exposure times to capture well-exposed images. In this paper, we explore an image restoration pipeline using…
Line segment detection is essential for high-level tasks in computer vision and robotics. Currently, most stateof-the-art (SOTA) methods are dedicated to detecting straight line segments in undistorted pinhole images, thus distortions on fisheye or spherical images may largely degenerate their performance. Targeting at the unified line segment detection (ULSD) for both distorted and undistorted images, we propose to represent line segments with the Bezier curve model. Then the line segment detection is tackled by the Bezier curve regression with an end-to-end network, which is model-free and w…

This paper presents a generic 6DOF camera pose estimation method, which can be used for both the pinhole camera and the fish-eye camera. Different from existing methods, relative positions of 3D points rather than absolute coordinates in the world coordinate system are employed in our method, and it has a unique solution. The application scope of POSIT (Pose from Orthography and Scaling with Iteration) algorithm is generalized to fish-eye cameras by combining with the radially symmetric projection model. The image point relationship between the pinhole camera and the fish-eye camera is derived…

Intelligent vehicles clearly benefit from the expanded Field of View (FoV) of the 360-degree sensors, but the vast majority of available semantic segmentation training images are captured with pinhole cameras. In this work, we look at this problem through the lens of domain adaptation and bring panoramic semantic segmentation to a setting, where labelled training data originates from a different distribution of conventional pinhole camera images. First, we formalize the task of unsupervised domain adaptation for panoramic semantic segmentation, where a network trained on labelled examples from…

In this work, we propose a camera self-calibration algorithm for generic cameras with arbitrary non-linear distortions. We jointly learn the geometry of the scene and the accurate camera parameters without any calibration objects. Our camera model consists of a pinhole model, a fourth order radial distortion, and a generic noise model that can learn arbitrary non-linear camera distortions. While traditional self-calibration algorithms mostly rely on geometric constraints, we additionally incorporate photometric consistency. This requires learning the geometry of the scene, and we use Neural Ra…

In this paper we study the problem of estimating the semi-generalized pose of a partially calibrated camera, i.e., the pose of a perspective camera with unknown focal length w.r.t. a generalized camera, from a hybrid set of 2D-2D and 2D-3D point correspondences. We study all possible camera configurations within the generalized camera system. To derive practical solvers to previously unsolved challenging configurations, we test different parameterizations as well as different solving strategies based on the state-of-the-art methods for generating efficient polynomial solvers. We evaluate the t…
