Schwarz's map for Appell's second hypergeometric system with quarter integer parameters

We study Schwarz's map for Appell's second system $\cF_2$ of hypergeometric differential equations in two variables with parameters $a=c_1=c_2=\frac{1}{2}$, $b_1=b_2=\frac{1}{4}$. By using theta functions with characteristics, we give a defining equation of an analytic set in $\C^2\times \H$ of its image, and express its inverse.

Duality and monodromy reducibility of $A$-hypergeometric systems

We study $A$-hypergeometric systems $H_A(β)$ in the sense of Gelfand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky under two aspects: the structure of their holonomically dual system, and reducibility of their rank module. We prove first that rank-jumping parameters always correspond to reducible systems, and we show that the property of being reducible is ``invariant modulo the lattice''. In the second part we study a conjecture of Nobuki Takayama which states that the holonomic dual of $H_A(β)$ is of the form $H_A(β')$ for suitable $β'$. Irreducibility of the monodromy representation of Lauricella's $F_C$

Let $E_C$ be the hypergeometric system of differential equations satisfied by Lauricella's hypergeometric series $F_C$ of $m$ variables. We show that the monodromy representation of $E_C$ is irreducible under our assumption consisting of $2^{m+1}$ conditions for parameters. We also show that the monodromy representation is reducible if one of them is not satisfied.

The Uniformization of Certain Algebraic Hypergeometric Functions

The hypergeometric functions ${}_nF_{n-1}$ are higher transcendental functions, but for certain parameter values they become algebraic, because the monodromy of the defining hypergeometric differential equation becomes finite. It is shown that many algebraic ${}_nF_{n-1}$'s, for which the finite monodromy is irreducible but imprimitive, can be represented as combinations of certain explicitly algebraic functions of a single variable; namely, the roots of trinomials. Transformations of algebraic Gauss hypergeometric functions

A celebrated theorem of Klein implies that any hypergeometric differential equation with algebraic solutions is a pull-back of one of the few standard hypergeometric equations with algebraic solutions. The most interesting cases are hypergeometric equations with tetrahedral, octahedral or icosahedral monodromy groups. Analogies of Jacobi's formula

By considering Schwarz's map for the hypergeometric differential equation with parameters $(a,b,c)=(1/6,1/2,1)$ or $(1/12,5/12,1)$, we give some analogies of Jacobi's formula $\vartheta_{00}(τ)^2= F(1/2,1/2,1;λ(τ))$, where $\vartheta_{00}(τ)$ and $λ(τ)$ are the theta constant and the lambda function defined on the upper-half plane, and $F(a,b,c;z)$ is the hypergeometric series defined on the unit disk. As applications of our formulas, we give several functional equations for $F(a,b,c;z)$.

Towards a nonlinear Schwarz's list

This is basically the text of a survey talk (entitled 'Painleve, Klein and the icosahedron') given at Hitchin's 60th birthday conference. The fifty-two icosahedral solutions to Painleve VI

The solutions of the (nonlinear) Painleve VI differential equation having icosahedral linear monodromy group will be classified up to equivalence under Okamoto's affine F4 Weyl group action and many properties of the solutions will be given.
