We present here a comprehensive model to describe the bottomonium suppression data obtained from the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV. We employ a quasiparticle model (QPM) equation of state for the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) expanding under Bjorken's scaling law. The current model includes the modification of the formation time based on the temperature of the QGP, color screening during bottomonium production, gluon induced dissociation and collisional damping due to the imaginary part of the potential between the $b\bar b$ pair. We propose a method for determining the temperature-dependent formation time of bottomonia using the solution of the time-independent Schrödinger equation and compare it with another approach based on time-dependent Schrödinger wave equation simulation. We find that these two independent methods based on different axioms give similar results for the formation time. Cold nuclear matter effects and feed-down from higher resonance states of $Υ$ have also been included in the present work. The suppression of the bottomonium states at mid rapidity is determined as a function of centrality. The results compare closely with the recent centrality-dependent suppression data at the energies available at the CERN LHC in the mid rapidity region.
Three tightly inter-related topics have been discussed: the $pp(p\bar p)$ total cross section; the single diffraction dissociation cross section; the $p(\bar p)d$ total cross section and the defect of the total cross section in scattering from deuteron.
The suppression of heavy quarkonia e.g. $J/ψ$, $Υ$ etc. is considered as a suitable probe to identify the nature of the matter created in heavy ion collisions. Recently we have presented a modified colour screening model for $J/ψ$ suppression in the quark gluon plasma (QGP) using quasiparticle model as the equation of state. In this paper, we extend our model to calculate the anomalous suppression of various states of $Υ$ arising due to QGP medium alone. We obtain the suppression patterns of different bottomonia states with respect to centrality at various available collision energies and comp…
We investigate the QCD effects in the production of neutral Higgs bosons via bottom quark fusion in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We include the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections (including supersymmetric QCD) and the threshold resummation effects. We use the soft-collinear effective theory to resum the large logarithms near threshold from soft gluon emission. Our results show that the resummation effects can enhance the total cross sections by about 5% compared with the NLO results.
Photoproduction of vector mesons are computed in dipole model in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions(UPCs) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The dipole model framework is employed in the calculations of vector mesons production in diffractive processes. Parameters of the bCGC model are refitted with the latest inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data. Employing the bCGC model and Boosted Gaussian light-cone wave function for vector mesons, we obtain prediction of rapidity distributions of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2s)$ mesons in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC. …
The observation of an anomalous jpsi suppression in nucleus-nucleus collisions is one of the most important results of the SPS heavy-ion program. An essential ingredient in this result is the determination, obtained by studying p-A collisions, of effects not related with the formation of a deconfined medium. These effects are extrapolated to A-A collisions, determining a reference jpsi yield that is then compared with the measurements. In this article we investigate the role of parton shadowing on the determination of such a reference, and we calculate its effect for In-In and Pb-Pb collisions…
We study the Z boson pair production mediated by the Kaluza-Klein (KK) graviton in large extra dimensions (LED) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We use the partial wave unitarity to discuss the constraints on the process energy scale in order to give a self-consistent calculation. We find that the LED contributions can enhance the Z boson pair production cross sections significantly when the fundamental scale $M_S$ of the large extra dimensions is up to several TeV. We also show that the kinematic distributions of the LED signals are greatly different from the standard model ones and t…
We investigate the photoproduction of $ρ$ mesons in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies in the dipole approach and within two phenomenological models based on the the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. We estimate the integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for meson production and compare our predictions with the data from the STAR collaboration. In particular, we demonstrate that the total cross section at RHIC is strongly dependent on the energy behavior of the dipole-target cross section at low energies, which is not well determined in the dipole a…
We explore the potential of the CERN Large Hadron Collider to access a strongly interacting electroweak symmetry breaking sector via weak boson scattering with WWjj, ZZjj and WZjj final states. As examples of models with scalar or vector resonances we concentrate on a scenario with a heavy Higgs boson and on a Warped Higgsless Kaluza-Klein model of narrow spin-one resonances. The signal and the most prominent background processes are evaluated using exact tree-level matrix elements including full off-shell and finite width effects for final states with two tagging jets and four leptons. Using …
We calculate the complete next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections (including SUSY QCD corrections) to the inclusive total cross sections of the associated production processes $pp\rightarrow A^{0}γ+X$ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Our results show that the enhancement of the total cross sections from the NLO QCD corrections can reach $15%\sim20%$ for 200 GeV$<m_{A}<500$ GeV and $\tanβ=50$. The scale dependence of the total cross section is improved by the NLO corrections, which is less than 5%. We also show the Monte Carlo simu…
In this work we investigate the coherent photoproduction of psi(1S), psi(2S) and Upsilon (1S) states in the proton-nucleus collisions in the LHC energies. Predictions for the rapidity distributions are presented using the color dipole formalism and including saturation effects that are expected to be relevant at high energies. Calculations are done at the energy 5.02 TeV and also for the next LHC run at 8.8 TeV in proton-lead mode. Discussion is performed on the main theoretical uncertainties associated to the calculations.
In this paper we calculate the technicolor correction to the production of a charged top pion in association with a W boson via b\bar{b} annihilation at the CERN Large Hadron Collider in the context of the topcolor assisted technicolor model. We find that the cross section of pp \rightarrow b\bar{b} -> W^{\pm}π_t^{\mp} at the tree level can reach a few hundred femtobarns for reasonable ranges of the parameters, roughly corresponding to the result of the process pp -> b\bar{b} -> W^{\pm}H^{\mp} in the minimal supersymmetric standard model; the relative corrections arising from the one-loop diag…
Deconfined QCD matter in heavy-ion collisions has been a topic of paramount interest for many years. Quarkonia suppression in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments indicate the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formation in such collisions. Recent experiments at LHC has given some indications of hot matter effect in asymmetric p$-$Pb nuclear collisions. Here, we employ a theoretical model to investigate the bottomonium suppression in Pb$-$Pb at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$, $5.02$ TeV, and in p$-$Pb at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV center-of-m…
Widths of the rapidity distributions of various identified hadrons generated with the UrQMD-3.4 event generator at all the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) energies have been presented and compared with the existing experimental results. An increase in the width of the rapidity distribution of $Λ$ could be seen with both Monte Carlo (MC) and experimental data for the studied energies. Using MC data, the study has been extended to Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. A similar jump, as observed in the plot of rapidity width versus rest mass at Alternati…
We present a modified colour screening model for $J/ψ$ suppression in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) using quasi-particle model (QPM) as equation of state (EOS). Other theoretical ingredients incorporated in the model are feed-down from higher resonances namely, $χ_c$, and $ψ^{'}$, dilated formation time for quarkonia and viscous effects of the QGP medium. Assuming further that the QGP is expanding with Bjorken's hydrodynamical expansion, the present model is used to analyze the centrality dependence of the $J/ψ$ suppression in mid-rapidity region and compare it with the data obtained from SPS, …
The exclusive photoproduction of upsilon states $Υ(1S)$ and its radially excited states $Υ(2S,3S)$ is investigated in the context of ultra-peripheral collisions at the LHC energies. Predictions are presented for their production in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collision at the energies available at the LHC run 2. The rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are shown, and the robustness of the model is tested against the experimental results considering $ψ(1S,2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ states. The theoretical framework considered in the analysis is the light-cone color dipole …
Both D0 and CDF at Tevatron reported the measurements of forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, which showed possible deviation from the standard model QCD prediction. In this paper, we explore how to examine the {\em same} higher-order QCD effects at the more powerful Large Hadron Collider.
We had been gradually working towards building a comprehensive quarkonia suppression formalism to explain all 3 dependencies of quarkonium suppression obtained from heavy-ion collision experiments. We present here the improved version of quarkonia suppression framework. It assumes bottomonia produced in the early stage which dissociates due to color screening, gluonic dissociation, and collisional damping in addition to the shadowing as an initial state effect. The QGP medium formed in the collisions is assumed to evolve under ($3+1$)-dimensional relativistic viscous hydrodynamics which is mod…
We study the hadroproduction of a CP-even or CP-odd neutral Higgs boson in association with a Z boson in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) We include the contributions from quark-antiquark annihilation at the tree level and those from gluon-gluon fusion, which proceeds via quark and squark loops, and list compact analytic results. We quantitatively analyze the hadronic cross sections at the CERN Large Hadron Collider assuming a favorable supergravity-inspired MSSM scenario.
This paper presents the latest development at CERN, concentrating on the status of the LHC and the strategy for future linear colliders. The immediate plans include the exploitation of the LHC at its design luminosity and energy as well as upgrades to the LHC (luminosity and energy) and to its injectors. This may be complemented by a linear electron-positron collider, based on the technology being developed by the Compact Linear Collider and by the International Linear Collider and/or by a high-energy electron-proton collider. This contribution describes the various future directions, all of w…
I give a theoretical overview of some basic properties of massive neutrinos in these lectures. Particular attention is paid to the origin of neutrino masses, the pattern of lepton flavor mixing, the feature of leptonic CP violation and the electromagnetic properties of massive neutrinos. I highlight the TeV seesaw mechanisms as a possible bridge between neutrino physics and collider physics in the era characterized by the Large Hadron Collider.
We use an event-by-event hydrodynamical description of the heavy-ion collision process with Glauber initial conditions to calculate the thermal emission of photons. The photon rates in the hadronic phase follow from a spectral function approach and a density expansion, while in the partonic phase they follow from the AMY perturbative rates. The calculated photon elliptic flows are lower than those reported recently by both the ALICE and PHENIX collaborations.
The meson production cross sections are estimated considering photon-photon interactions in hadron - hadron collisions at CERN LHC energies. We consider a large number of mesons with photon-photon partial decay width well constrained by the experiment and some mesons which are currently considered as hadronic molecule and glueball candidates. Our results demonstrate that the experimental analysis of these states is feasible at CERN - LHC.
Cross sections are calculated for single and double photon exchange in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC. The particle production is simulated with the DPMJET event generator. Large cross sections are found for particle production around mid-rapidity making these processes an important background to hadronic nuclear interactions at both the trigger and analysis levels.
