We study the coinduction functor on the category of FI-modules and its variants. Using the coinduction functor, we give new and simpler proofs of (generalizations of) various results on homological properties of FI-modules. We also prove that any finitely generated projective VI-module over a field of characteristic 0 is injective.
We show that the negative-one shift functor on the category of FI-modules is a left adjoint of the shift functor and a right adjoint of the derivative functor. We also describe how the coinduction functor is related to the negative-one shift functor.
We propose a new approach to study the relation between the module categories of a tilted algebra $C$ and the corresponding cluster-tilted algebra $B=C\ltimes E$. This new approach consists of using the induction functor $-\otimes_C B$ as well as the coinduction functor $D(B\otimes_C D-)$. We show that $DE$ is a partial tilting and a $τ$-rigid $C$-module and that the induced module $DE\otimes_C B$ is a partial tilting and a $τ$-rigid $B$-module. Furthermore, if $C=\text{End}_A T$ for a tilting module $T$ over a hereditary algebra $A$, we compare the induction and coinduction functors to the Bu…
In this paper we consider the locally self-injective property of the product FI$^m$ of the category FI of finite sets and injections. Explicitly, we prove that the external tensor product commutes with the coinduction functor, and hence preserves injective modules. As corollaries, every projective FI$^m$-modules over a field of characteristic 0 is injective, and the Serre quotient of the category of finitely generated FI$^m$-modules by the category of finitely generated torsion FI$^m$-modules is equivalent to the category of finite dimensional FI$^m$-modules.
Using the Nakayama functor, we construct an equivalence from a Serre quotient category of a category of finitely generated modules to a category of finite-dimensional modules. We then apply this result to the categories FI$_G$ and VI$_q$, and answer positively an open question of Nagpal on representation stability theory.
We prove a general representation stability result for polynomial coefficient systems which lets us prove representation stability and secondary homological stability for many families of groups with polynomial coefficients. This gives two generalizations of classical homological stability theorems with twisted coefficients. We apply our results to prove homological stability for hyperelliptic mapping class groups with twisted coefficients, prove new representation stability results for congruence subgroups, establish secondary homological stability for groups of diffeomorphisms of surfaces vi…
We describe an inductive machinery to prove various properties of representations of a category equipped with a generic shift functor. Specifically, we show that if a property (P) of representations of the category behaves well under the generic shift functor, then all finitely generated representations of the category have the property (P). In this way, we obtain simple criteria for properties such as Noetherianity, finiteness of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, and polynomial growth of dimension to hold. This gives a systemetic and uniform proof of such properties for representations of the c…
Let $k$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ be a locally finite $k$-linear category equipped with a self-embedding functor of degree 1. We show under a moderate condition that finitely generated torsion representations of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ are super finitely presented (that is, they have projective resolutions each term of which is finitely generated). In the situation that these self-embedding functors are genetic functors, we give upper bounds for homological degrees of finitely generated torsion modules. These results apply to quite a few categories recent…
In this paper we describe an inductive machinery to investigate asymptotic behaviors of homology groups and related invariants of representations of certain graded combinatorial categories over a commutative Noetherian ring $k$, via introducing inductive functors which generalize important properties of shift functors of $\mathrm{FI}$-modules. In particular, a sufficient criterion for finiteness of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of finitely generated representations of these categories is obtained. As applications, we show that a few important infinite combinatorial categories appearing in rep…
We use categorical method and birational geometry to study moduli spaces of quiver representations. From certain "representable" functor, we construct a birational transformation from the moduli space of representations of one quiver to another new quiver with one vertex less. The dimension vector and the stability for the new moduli are determined functorially. We introduce several relative notions of stability to study such a birational transformation. The essential case is proven to be the usual blow-ups. Moreover, we compare the induced ample divisors for the two moduli. We illustrate this…
We compute the kernel of the stabilization map for $K_1$-functors modeled on split Chevalley groups of types $B_l, C_l, E_l$ one step below the stable range. For the groups of type $B_l$ this implies early injective stability for $K_1(B_l, R)$ over a certain class of rings.
Recently, Anno, Bezrukavnikov and Mirkovic have introduced the notion of a "real variation of stability conditions" (which is related to Bridgeland's stability conditions), and construct an example using categories of coherent sheaves on Springer fibers. Here we construct another example of representation theoretic significance, by studying certain sub-quotients of category O with a fixed Gelfand-Kirillov dimension. We use the braid group action on the derived category of category O, and certain leading coefficient polynomials coming from translation functors. Consequently, we use this to expl…
Deligne's category $\underline{\rm Rep}(S_t)$ is a tensor category depending on a parameter $t$ "interpolating" the categories of representations of the symmetric groups $S_n$. We construct a family of categories $\mathcal{C}_λ$ (depending on a vector of variables $λ= (λ_1, λ_2, \ldots, λ_l)$, that may be specialised to values in the ground ring) which are module categories over $\underline{\rm Rep}(S_t)$. The categories $\mathcal{C}_λ$ are defined over any ring and are constructed by interpolating permutation representations. Further, they admit specialisation functors to $S_n$-mod which are …
We study the global dimension function $\operatorname{gldim}\colon\operatorname{Aut}\backslash\operatorname{Stab}\mathcal{D}/\mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{R}_{\ge0}$ on a quotient of the space of Bridgeland stability conditions on a triangulated category $\mathcal{D}$ as well as Toda's Gepner equatio $Φ(σ)=s\cdotσ$ for some $σ\in\operatorname{Stab}\mathcal{D}$ and $(Φ,s)\in\operatorname{Aut}\mathcal{D}\times\mathbb{C}$. For the bounded derived category $\mathcal{D}^b(\mathbf{k} Q)$ of a Dynkin quiver $Q$, we show that there is a unique minimal point $σ_G$ of $\operatorname{gldim}$ (up to the $\mathbb{C…
We introduce the idea of *representation stability* (and several variations) for a sequence of representations V_n of groups G_n. A central application of the new viewpoint we introduce here is the importation of representation theory into the study of homological stability. This makes it possible to extend classical theorems of homological stability to a much broader variety of examples. Representation stability also provides a framework in which to find and to predict patterns, from classical representation theory (Littlewood--Richardson and Murnaghan rules, stability of Schur functors), to …
A category of FI type is one which is sufficiently similar to finite sets and injections so as to admit nice representation stability results. Several common examples admit a Grothendieck fibration to finite sets and injections. We begin by carefully reviewing the theory of fibrations of categories with motivating examples relevant to algebra and representation theory. We classify which functors between FI type categories are fibrations, and thus obtain sufficient conditions for an FI type category to be the result of a Grothendieck construction.
Motivated by the goal of studying cluster algebras in infinite type, we study the stability domains of modules for the preprojective algebra in the corresponding infinite types. Specifically, we study real bricks: those modules whose endomorphism algebra is a division ring and which have no self-extensions. We define "shard modules" to be those real bricks whose stability domain is as large as possible (meaning, of dimension one less than the rank of the preprojective algebra). We show that all real bricks are obtained by applying the Baumann-Kamnitzer reflection functors to simple modules, an…

Let $\mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}$ be the homotopy category of a stable infinity category $\mathscr{C}$. Then the homotopy category $\mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}^{Δ^{1}}$ of morphisms in the stable infinity category $\mathscr{C}$ is also triangulated. Hence the space $\mathsf{Stab}\,{ \mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}^{Δ^{1}}}$ of stability conditions on $\mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}^{Δ^{1}}$ is well-defined though the non-emptiness of $\mathsf{Stab}\,{ \mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}^{Δ^{1}}}$ is not obvious. Our basic motivation is a comparison of the homotopy type of $\mathsf{Stab}{\mathrm{h}\mathscr{C}}$ and that of $\mathsf{Stab}{…
