We study the fidelity susceptibility in an antiferromagnetic spin-1 XXZ chain numerically. By using the density-matrix renormalization group method, the effects of the alternating single-site anisotropy $D$ on fidelity susceptibility are investigated. Its relation with the quantum phase transition is analyzed. It is found that the quantum phase transition from the Haldane spin liquid to periodic Néel spin solid can be well characterized by the fidelity. Finite size scaling of fidelity susceptibility shows a power-law divergence at criticality, which indicates the quantum phase transition is of second order. The results are confirmed by the second derivative of the ground-state energy. We also study the relationship between the entanglement entropy, the Schmidt gap and quantum phase transitions. Conclusions drawn from these quantum information observables agree well with each other.
In the first part we calculate the boundary susceptibility $χ_B$ in the open $XXZ$-chain at zero temperature and arbitrary magnetic field $h$ by Bethe ansatz. We present analytical results for the leading terms when $|h|\ll α$, where $α$ is a known scale, and a numerical solution for the entire range of fields. In the second part we calculate susceptibility profiles near the boundary at finite temperature $T$ numerically by using the density-matrix renormalization group for transfer matrices and analytically for $T\ll 1$ by field theoretical methods. Finally we compare $χ_B$ at finite temperat…
Exact low-temperature asymptotic behavior of boundary contribution to specific heat and susceptibility in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ model with exchange anisotropy 1/2 < Δ\le 1 is analytically obtained using the Abelian bosonization method. The boundary spin susceptibility is divergent in the low-temperature limit. This singular behavior is caused by the first-order contribution of a bulk leading irrelevant operator to boundary free energy. The result is confirmed by numerical simulations of finite-size systems. The anomalous boundary contributions in the spin isotropic case are universa…
The quantum XXZ spin model with alternating bond strengths under magnetic field has a rich equilibrium phase diagram which includes Haldane, Luttinger liquid, singlet, and paramagnetic phases. We show that the nearest neighbor bipartite and multipartite entanglement can detect quantum critical lines and phases in this model. We determine a region in parameter space in which the dynamical states, starting from the ground state of the Haldane (dimer) phase can create highly multipartite entangled states for any time period, thereby establishing it as a potential candidate for the implementation …
The phase diagram of the spin-1 bond-alternating XXZ chain is studied numerically. This model is appropriate to study the VBS picture and the hidden Z_2\times Z_2 symmetry concerning to the Haldane gap problem. The possible phases are the ferromagnetic, the XY, the Haldane, the dimer, and the Néel ones. The critical properties of this model can be interpreted as the Ashkin-Teller type reflecting the hidden Z_2\times Z_2 symmetry. The phase transitions are of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type (XY-Haldane and XY-dimer), of the 2D Gaussian type (Haldane-dimer), and of the 2D Ising type (Ha…
We explore the fidelity susceptibility and the quantum coherence along with the entanglement entropy in the ground-state of one-dimensional spin-1 XXZ chains with the rhombic single-ion anisotropy. By using the techniques of density matrix renormalization group, effects of the rhombic single-ion anisotropy on a few information theoretical measures are investigated, such as the fidelity susceptibility, the quantum coherence and the entanglement entropy. Their relations with the quantum phase transitions are also analyzed. The phase transitions from the Y-Néel phase to the Large-$E_x$ or the Hal…
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the bond-alternating $S=2$ quantum spin chain with the $XXZ$ and on-site anisotropies. For the on-site anisotropies, in addition to the popular $D_2 \sum_j (S_j^z)^2$ term, we consider the $D_4 \sum_j (S_j^z)^4$ term. Mainly we use the exact diagonalization and the level spectroscopy analysis. We show that the Haldane state, large-$D$ state and the Dimer2 state belong to the same trivial phase, by finding the existence of adiabatic paths directly connecting these states without the quantum phase transition. Similarly, we show that the intermedia…
We study a one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg model with alternating Dzyaloshinskii- Moriya interaction, using the numerical Lanczos method. Recently, the ground state (GS) phase diagram of this model has been established using the bosonization approach and extensive density matrix renormalization group computations. Four quantum phases - saturated ferromagnetic (FM), Luttinger liquid (LL), and two (C1 and C2) gapped phases with composite structure of GS order, characterized by the coexistence of long-range alternating dimer, chirality and antiferromagnetic order have been identified. Her…
We study the entanglement structure and the topological edge states of the ground state of the spin-1/2 XXZ model with bond alternation. We employ parity-density matrix renormalization group with periodic boundary conditions. The finite-size scaling of Rényi entropies $S_2$ and $S_\infty$ are used to construct the phase diagram of the system. The phase diagram displays three possible phases: Haldane type (an example of symmetry protected topological ordered phases), Classical Dimer and Néel phases, the latter bounded by two continuous quantum phase transitions. The entanglement and non-localit…
We calculate the fidelity susceptibility chi_f for the Luttinger model and show that there is a universal contribution linear in temperature T (or inverse length 1/L). Furthermore, we develop an algorithm - based on a lattice path integral approach - to calculate the fidelity F(T) in the thermodynamic limit for one-dimensional quantum systems. We check the Luttinger model predictions by calculating chi_f(T) analytically for free spinless fermions and numerically for the XXZ chain. Finally, we study chi_f at the two phase transitions in this model.
The magnetization behavior of q-periodic antiferromagnetic spin 1/2 Heisenberg chains under uniform magnetic fields is investigated in a background of disorder exchange distributions. By means of both real space decimation procedures and numerical diagonalizations in XX chains, it is found that for binary disorder the magnetization exhibits wide plateaux at values of 1+2(p-1)/q, where p is the disorder strength. In contrast, no spin gaps are observed in the presence of continuous exchange distributions. We also study the magnetic susceptibility at low magnetic fields. For odd q-modulations the…
We consider the ground-state phase diagram of a one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ chain with spatially modulated Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in the presence of applied along with the $\hat{z}$ axis alternating magnetic field. The model is studied using the continuum-limit bosonization approach and the finite system exact numerical technique. In the absence of the magnetic field, the ground-state phase diagram of the model includes besides the ferromagnetic and gapless Luttiger-Liquid (LL) phases two gapped phases, the composite (C1) phase characterized by the coexistence of the long-range-ord…
By using mainly numerical methods, we investigate the ground-state phase diagram (GSPD) of an $S=1$ ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic bond-alternating chain with the $XXZ$ and the on-site anisotropies. This system can be mapped onto an anisotropic spin-2 chain when the ferromagnetic interaction is much stronger than the antiferromagnetic interaction. Since there are many quantum parameters in this system, we numerically obtained the GSPD on the plane of the magnitude of the antiferromagnetic coupling versus its $XXZ$ anisotropy, by use of the exact diagonalization, the level spectroscopy as well…
A mixed Ising-Heisenberg spin system consisting of triangular XXZ-Heisenberg spin clusters assembled into a chain by alternating with Ising spins interacting to all three spins in the triangle is considered. The exact solution of the model is given in terms of the generalized decoration--iteration map and within the transfer-matrix technique. Exact expressions for thermodynamic functions are derived. Ground state phase diagrams, thermodynamic and magnetic properties of the system are examined.
We study the quantum phase transitions in the two-dimensional spin-orbit models in terms of fidelity susceptibility and reduced fidelity susceptibility. An order-to-order phase transition is identified by fidelity susceptibility in the two-dimensional Heisenberg XXZ model with Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction on a square lattice. The finite size scaling of fidelity susceptibility shows a power-law divergence at criticality, which indicates the quantum phase transition is of second order. Two distinct types of quantum phase transitions are witnessed by fidelity susceptibility in Kitaev-Heisenbe…
We study the effect of anisotropy of spin-$S$ impurities on an antiferromagnetic SU(2) Heisenberg chain. The magnetic impurities are assumed to have an XXZ-type anisotropic exchange with its neighboring sites. First, using density-matrix renormalization group technique. we examine spin-spin correlation function, instability of Néel order, and local spin susceptibility in the presence of a single spin-$S$ impurity. Based on the results, we find that the types of spin-$S$ impurities are classified into two groups: $\rm(\hspace{.18em}i\hspace{.18em})$ nonmagnetic and $S=1$ impurities enhance only…
We present exact diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group results for the entanglement entropy of critical spin-1/2 XXZ chains. We find that open boundary conditions induce an alternating term in both the energy density and the entanglement entropy which are approximately proportional, decaying away from the boundary with a power-law. The power varies with anisotropy along the XXZ critical line and is corrected by a logarithmic factor, which we calculate analytically, at the isotropic point. A heuristic resonating valence bond explanation is suggested.
We derive an effective spin Hamiltonian for the one-dimensional half-filled asymmetric ionic Hubbard model with alternating on-site interaction in the limit of strong repulsion. It is shown that the effective Hamiltonian is that of a spin $S=1/2$ anisotropic $XXZ$ Heisenberg chain with alternating next-nearest-neighbor and three-spin couplings in the presence of a uniform and a staggered magnetic field.
In this contribution we review the theory of integrability of quantum systems in one spatial dimension. We introduce the basic concepts such as the Yang-Baxter equation, commuting currents, and the algebraic Bethe ansatz. Quite extensively we present the treatment of integrable quantum systems at finite temperature on the basis of a lattice path integral formulation and a suitable transfer matrix approach (quantum transfer matrix). The general method is carried out for the seminal model of the spin-1/2 $XXZ$ chain for which thermodynamic properties like specific heat, magnetic susceptibility a…
Frequency shifts and nuclear relaxations of 13C NMR of the metal-insulator alternating material, (Me-3,5-DIP)[Ni(dmit)2]2, are presented. The NMR absorption lines originating from metallic and insulating layers are well resolved, which evidences the coexistence of localized spins (π_loc) and conduction π-electrons. The insulating layer is newly found to undergo antiferromagnetic long range order at about 2.5 K, suggesting emergence of S=1/2 Mott insulator. In the metallic layer, we found significant suppressions of static and dynamical susceptibilities of conduction electrons below 35 K, where…
We investigate the phase diagram and the spin-orbital entanglement of a one-dimensional SU(2)$\otimes XXZ$ model with SU(2) spin exchange and anisotropic $XXZ$ orbital exchange interactions and negative exchange coupling. As a unique feature, the spin-orbital entanglement entropy in the entangled ground states increases here linearly with system size. In the case of Ising orbital interactions we identify an emergent phase with long-range spin-singlet dimer correlations triggered by a quadrupling of correlations in the orbital sector. The peculiar translational invariant spin-singlet dimer phas…
The Kondo effect in a one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ model in the gapless XY regime (-1<Delta<=1) is studied both analytically and numerically. In our model an impurity spin (S=1/2) is coupled to a single spin in the XXZ spin chain. Perturbative renormalization-group (RG) analysis is performed for various limiting cases to deduce low-energy fixed points. It is shown that in the ground state the impurity spin is screened by forming a singlet with a spin in the host XXZ chain. In the antiferromagnetic side (0<Delta<=1) the host chain is cut into two semi-infinite chains by the singlet. In the ferr…
We present a Green's-function theory of magnetic short-range order in the $S=1/2$ easy-plane XXZ chain based on the projection method for the dynamic spin susceptibility and a decoupling of three-spin operator products introducing vertex parameters. The longitudinal and transverse static susceptibilities and two-point correlation functions of arbitrary range are calculated self-consistently for all wavenumbers, temperatures, and anisotropy parameters $ -1\leq Δ\leq 1$. In the easy-plane ferromagnetic region $(Δ< 0)$, the longitudinal correlators of spins at distance $n$ change sign at a finite…
We analyze the phase diagram of the exact ground state (GS) of spin-$s$ chains with ferromagnetic $XXZ$ couplings under $n$-alternating field configurations, i.e, sparse alternating fields having nodes at $n-1$ contiguous sites. It is shown that such systems can exhibit a non-trivial magnetic behavior, which can differ significantly from that of the standard ($n=1$) alternating case and enable mechanisms for controlling their magnetic and entanglement properties. The boundary in field space of the fully aligned phase can be determined analytically $\forall\,n$, and shows that it becomes reacha…
We study the finite size scaling of the spin stiffness for the one-dimensional s=1/2 quantum antiferromagnet as a function of the anisotropy parameter Delta.Previous Bethe ansatz results allow a determination of the stiffness in the thermodynamic limit. The Bethe ansatz equations for finite systems are solvable even in the presence of twisted boundary conditions, a fact we exploit to determine the stiffness exactly for finite systems allowing for a complete determination of the finite size corrections. Relating the stiffness to thermodynamic quantities we calculate the temperature dependence o…
Local-susceptibility measurements via the NMR shifts of $^{31}$P and $^{51}$V nuclei in the high-pressure phase of (VO)$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{7}$ confirmed the existence of a unique alternating antiferromagnetic chain with a zero-field spin gap of 34 K. The $^{31}$P nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate scales with the uniform spin susceptibility below about 15 K which shows that the temperature dependence of both the static and dynamical spin susceptibilities becomes identical at temperatures not far below the spin-gap energy.
In the present work, we investigate the intrinsic relation between quantum fidelity susceptibility (QFS) and the dynamical structure factor. We give a concise proof of the QFS beyond the perturbation theory. With the QFS in the Lehmann representation, we point out that the QFS actually the negative-two-power moment of dynamical structure factor, and illuminate the inherent relation between physical quantities in the linear response theory. Moreover, we discuss the generalized fidelity susceptibility (GFS) of any quantum relevant operator, that may not be coupled to the driving parameter, prese…
We study the frustration-induced enhancement of the incommensurate correlation for a bond-alternating quantum spin chain in a magnetic field, which is associated with a quasi-one-dimensional organic compound F5PNN. We investigate the temperature dependence of the staggered susceptibilities by using the density matrix renormalization group, and then find that the incommensurate correlation becomes dominant in a certain range of the magnetic field. We also discuss the mechanism of this enhancement on the basis of the mapping to the effective S=1/2 XXZ chain and a possibility of the field-induced…

To demonstrate the role played by the von Neumann entropy spectra in quantum phase transitions we investigate the one-dimensional anisotropic SU(2)$\otimes XXZ$ spin-orbital model with negative exchange parameter. In the case of classical Ising orbital interactions we discover an unexpected novel phase with Majumdar-Ghosh-like spin-singlet dimer correlations triggered by spin-orbital entanglement and having $k=π/2$ orbital correlations, while all the other phases are disentangled. For anisotropic $XXZ$ orbital interactions both spin-orbital entanglement and spin-dimer correlations extend to th…
We consider the spin-1/2 isotropic $XY$ chain in an external magnetic field directed along $z$ axis with periodically varying $g$-factors. To reveal the effects of regularly alternating $g$-factors, we calculate various static and dynamic equilibrium quantities in the ground state and at finite temperatures. We demonstrate that because of the regularly alternating $g$-factors the saturation field may disappear and the field dependence of the susceptibility in the ground state has additional logarithmic singularity at zero field. Moreover, the zero-field susceptibility has a logarithmic singula…
We calculate the bulk and boundary parts of the free energy for an open spin-1/2 XXZ-chain in the critical regime by bosonisation. We identify the cutoff independent contributions and determine their amplitudes by comparing with Bethe ansatz calculations at zero temperature T. For the bulk part of the free energy we find agreement with Lukyanov's result [Nucl.Phys.B 522, 533 (1998)]. In the boundary part we obtain a cutoff independent term which is linear in T and determines the temperature dependence of the boundary susceptibility in the attractive regime for $T\ll 1$. We further show that at…
The thermodynamics of the spin-$S$ anisotropic quantum $XXZ$ chain with arbitrary value of $S$ and unitary norm, in the high-temperature regime, is reported. The single-ion anisotropy term and the interaction with an external magnetic field in the $z$-direction are taken into account. We obtain, for arbitrary value of $S$, the $β$-expansion of the Helmholtz free energy of the model up to order $β^6$ and show that it actually depends on $\frac{1}{S(S+1)}$. Its classical limit is obtained by simply taking $S\to \infty$. At $h=0$ and D=0, our high temperature expansion of the classical model coin…
The fidelity susceptibility is a general purpose probe of phase transitions. With its origin in quantum information and in the differential geometry perspective of quantum states, the fidelity susceptibility can indicate the presence of a phase transition without prior knowledge of the local order parameter, as well as reveal the universal properties of a critical point. The wide applicability of the fidelity susceptibility to quantum many-body systems is, however, hindered by the limited computational tools to evaluate it. We present a generic, efficient, and elegant approach to compute the f…
Thermodynamic properties of a tetrameric bond-alternating Heisenberg spin chain with ferromagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic exchange interactions are studied using the transfer-matrix renormalization group and compared to experimental measurements. The temperature dependence of the uniform susceptibility exhibits typical ferrimagnetic features. Both the uniform and staggered magnetic susceptibilities diverge in the limit $T\to 0$, indicating that the ground state has both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic long-range orders. A double-peak structure appears in the temp…
We have studied the ground state phase diagram of a spin ladder with alternating rung exchange $J^{n}_{\perp} = J_{\perp}[1 + (-1)^{n} δ]$ in a magnetic filed, in the limit where the rung coupling is dominant. In this limit the model is mapped onto an $XXZ$ Heisenberg chain in a uniform and staggered longitudinal magnetic fields, where the amplitude of the staggered field is $\sim δ$. We have shown that the magnetization curve of the system exhibits a plateau at magnetization equal to the half of the saturation value. The width of a plateau scales as $δ^ν$, where $ν=4/5$ in the case of ladder …
The spin-1/2 alternating Heisenberg chain system Na$_3$Cu$_2$SbO$_6$ features two relevant exchange couplings: $J_{1a}$ within the structural Cu$_2$O$_6$ dimers and $J_{1b}$ between the dimers. Motivated by the controversially discussed nature of $J_{1a}$, we perform extensive density-functional-theory (DFT) calculations, including DFT+$U$ and hybrid functionals. Fits to the experimental magnetic susceptibility using high-temperature series expansions and quantum Monte Carlo simulations yield the optimal parameters $J_{1a}$ = $-$217 K and $J_{1b}$ = 174 K with the alternation ratio $α= J_{1a}/…
We propose a new method for studying the anomaly of magnetic susceptibility $χ$ that indicates a phase transition for quantum spin systems. In addition, we introduce the fourth derivative $A$ of the lowest energy eigenvalue per site with respect to magnetization, that is, the second derivative of $χ^{-1}$. To verify the validity of this method, we apply it to an $S=1/2$ XXZ antiferromagnetic chain. The lowest energy of the chain is calculated by numerical diagonalization. As a result, the anomaly of $χ$ and $A$ exists at zero magnetization. That of $A$ is easier to observe than that of $χ$, wh…
We present observations of highly frustrated quasi two-dimensional (2D) magnetic correlations in the honeycomb lattice layers of the S$_{eff}$ = 1/2 compound $γ$-BaCo$_2$(PO$_4$)$_2$ ($γ$-BCPO). Specific heat shows a broad peak comprised of two weak kink features at $T_{N1} \sim$ 6 K and $T_{N2} \sim$ 3.5 K, the relative weights of which can be modified by sample annealing. Neutron powder diffraction measurements reveal short range quasi-2D order that is established below $T_{N1}$ and $T_{N2}$, at which two separate, incompatible, short range magnetic orders onset: commensurate antiferromagnet…
The ground state spin-wave excitations and thermodynamic properties of two types of ferrimagnetic chains are investigated: the alternating spin-1/2 spin-5/2 chain and a similar chain with a spin-1/2 pendant attached to the spin-5/2 site. Results for magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and specific heat are obtained through the finite-temperature Lanczos method with the aim in describing available experimental data, as well as comparison with theoretical results from the semiclassical approximation and the low-temperature susceptibility expansion derived from Takahashi's modified spin-wave t…
The spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg chain with a ferromagnetic first-neighbor exchange coupling $J_1$ and an antiferromagnetic second-neighbor $J_2$ has a Haldane dimer ground state with an extremely small spin gap. Thus, the ground state is readily altered by perturbations. Here, we investigate the effects of XXZ exchange magnetic anisotropy of both the easy-axis and easy-plane types and an alternation in $J_1$ on the ground state, the spin gap, and magnetic properties of the frustrated ferromagnetic spin-$1/2$ chain. It is found that there are two distinct dimerized spin-gap phases, in one of which th…
We study the interplay between disorder and a quasi periodic coupling array in an external magnetic field in a spin-1/2 XXZ chain. A simple real space decimation argument is used to estimate the magnetization values where plateaux show up. The latter are in good agreement with exact diagonalization results on fairly long XX chains. Spontaneous susceptibility properties are also studied, finding a logarithmic behaviour similar to the homogeneously disordered case.
We study the ground state phase diagram of a two dimensional mixed-spin system of coupled alternating spin-1 and $1/2$ chains with a stripe supersolid phase. Utilizing different analytical and numerical approaches such as mean field approximation, cluster mean field theory and linear spin wave theory, we demonstrate that our system displays a rich ground state phase diagram including novel stripe supersolid, solids with different fillings and super-counterfluid phases, in addition to a stripe solid with half filling, superfluid and Mott insulating phases. In order to find a minimal mixed-spin …
We show that the peak which can be observed in fidelity susceptibility around the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition is shifted from the quantum critical point (QCP) at $J_c$ to $J^*$ in the gapped phase by a value $|J^* - J_c| = B^2/36$, where $B^2$ is a transition width controlling the asymptotic form of the correlation length $ξ\sim \exp(-B/\sqrt{|J-J_c|})$ in that phase. This is in contrast to the conventional continuous QCP where the maximum is an indicator of the position of the critical point. The shape of the peak is universal, emphasizing the close connection between fidelity …
High resolution inelastic neutron scattering is used to study excitations in the organometallic magnet DMACuCl$_3$. The correct magnetic Hamiltonian describing this material has been debated for many years. Combined with high field bulk magnetization and susceptibility studies, the new results imply that DMACuCl$_3$ is a realization of the $S=1/2$ alternating antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic (AFM-FM) chain. Coupled-cluster calculations are used to derive exchange parameters, showing that the AFM and FM interactions have nearly the same strength. Analysis of the scattering intensities shows clea…
We use the coupled cluster method (CCM) to study the ground-state properties and lowest-lying triplet excited state of the spin-half {\it XXZ} antiferromagnet on the square lattice. The CCM is applied to it to high orders of approximation by using an efficient computer code that has been written by us and which has been implemented to run on massively parallelized computer platforms. We are able therefore to present precise data for the basic quantities of this model over a wide range of values for the anisotropy parameter $Δ$ in the range $-1 \leq Δ< \infty$ of interest, including both the ea…
We present a study of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with alternating ferro- and antiferromagnetic exchange, focusing on the role of the exchange couplings to cover both, dimer and Haldane limit. Employing a complementary combination of perturbation theory and quantum Monte Carlo simulation, we report results for the magnetic susceptibility as well as the dynamic structure factor over a wide range of coupling constants and for different temperatures to extract the spin gap. For a small ferromagnetic coupling, we find good agreement between perturbation theory and quantum Monte Carlo. For arbitr…
Motivated by a novel bimetallic chain compound in which alternating magnetic centers are ferromagnetically coupled, we investigate thermodynamic properties of one-dimensional spin-$(S,s)$ Heisenberg ferromagnets both numerically and analytically. On the one hand, quantum Monte Carlo calculations illuminate the overall thermal behavior. The specific heat may exhibit a double-peaked structure at intermediate temperatures for $S\agt 3s$ in general. On the other hand, a modified spin-wave theory precisely describes the low-temperature properties. Expanding the specific heat and the magnetic suscep…
We work out the magnetization and susceptibility of Heisenberg- and XXZ-model antiferromagnet spin-1/2 systems in $D$ dimensions under a rigorous constraint of single particle site occupancy. Quantum fluctuations are taken into account up to the first order in a loop expansion beyond the Néel state mean field solution. We discuss the results, their validity in the vicinity of the critical point and compare them with the results obtained by means of a spin wave approach.
We present the zero temperature phase diagram of the bond alternating Ising chain in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. An abrupt change in ground state fidelity is a signature of quantum phase transition. We obtain the renormalization of fidelity in terms of quantum renormalization group without the need to know the ground state. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility and its scaling behavior close to quantum critical point (QCP) to find the critical exponent which governs the divergence of correlation length. The model consists of a long range antiferromagnetic order with n…
The mixture of bond-alternating and uniform S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains is investigated by the density matrix renormalization group method. The ground state magnetization curve is calculated and the exchange parameters are determined by fitting to the experimentally measured magnetization curve of \CuCl$_{2x}$Br$_{2(1-x)}$($γ$-pic)$_2$. The low field behavior of the magnetization curve and low temperature behavior of the magnetic susceptibility are found to be sensitive to whether the bond-alternation pattern (parity) is fixed all over the sample or randomly distributed. The both…
We study the magnetism of a quantum spin-1/2 antiferromagnet on a maple-leaf lattice which is obtained by regularly depleting 1/7 of the sites of a triangular lattice. Although the interactions are set to be spatially uniform, the ground state shows a stripe Neel order and the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility follows that of the one-dimensional XXZ model with a finite spin gap. We examine the nature of frustration by mapping the low energy degenerate manifold of states to the fully packed loop-string model on a dual cluster-depleted honeycomb lattice, finding that the order-by…
We show that the simple update approach proposed by Jiang et. al. [H.C. Jiang, Z.Y. Weng, and T. Xiang, Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 090603 (2008)] is an efficient and accurate method for determining the infinite tree tensor network states on the Bethe lattice. Ground state properties of the quantum transverse Ising model and the Heisenberg XXZ model on the Bethe lattice are studied. The transverse Ising model is found to undergo a second-order quantum phase transition with a diverging magnetic susceptibility but a finite correlation length which is upper-bounded by 1/ln(q-1) even at the transition p…
The thermodynamics of finite open antiferromagnetic XXZ chains is studied using field theory, Bethe Ansatz and quantum Monte Carlo methods. For the susceptibility a parameter-free result as a function of the number of sites L and temperature T beyond the scaling limit is derived. The limiting cases T/J >> 1/L (J being the exchange constant), where the boundary correction shows a logarithmically suppressed Curie behaviour, and T/J << 1/L, where a crossover to the ground state behaviour takes place, are discussed in detail. Based on this analysis we present a simple formula for the averaged susc…
Using the Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA) we calculate the alternating circulating-current susceptibility and investigate the transition to the d-density wave (DDW) order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model. The 2 x 2 cluster used in the DCA calculation is the smallest that can capture d-wave order; therefore, due to the mean-field character of our calculation, we expect to overestimate d-wave transition temperatures. Despite this, we found no transition to the DDW state. In the pseudogap region the DDW susceptibility is enhanced, as predicted by the slave boson SU(2) theory, but it sti…
