In 2010 Menon and Srinivasan published a conjecture for the statistical structure of solutions $ρ$ to scalar conservation laws with certain Markov initial conditions, proposing a kinetic equation that should suffice to describe $ρ(x,t)$ as a stochastic process in $x$ with $t$ fixed. In this article we verify an analogue of the conjecture for initial conditions which are bounded, monotone, and piecewise constant. Our argument uses a particle system representation of $ρ(x,t)$ over $0 \leq x \leq L$ for $L > 0$, with a suitable random boundary condition at $x = L$.
We study multivalued stochastic differential equations (MSDEs) with maximal monotone operators driven by semimartingales with jumps. We discuss in detail some methods of approximation of solutions of MSDEs based on discretization of processes and Yosida approximation of the monotone operator. We also study the general problem of stability of solutions of MSDEs with respect to the convergence of driving semimartingales.
Lévy processes with completely monotone jumps appear frequently in various applications of probability. For example, all popular stock price models based on Lévy processes (such as the Variance Gamma, CGMY/KoBoL and Normal Inverse Gaussian) belong to this class. In this paper we continue the work started in [Int. J. Theor. Appl. Finance 13 (2010) 63-91, Quant. Finance 10 (2010) 629-644] and develop a simple yet very efficient method for approximating processes with completely monotone jumps by processes with hyperexponential jumps, the latter being the most convenient class for performing nume…
Small-space and large-time estimates and asymptotic expansion of the distribution function and (the derivatives of) the density function of hitting times of points for symmetric Lévy processes are studied. The Lévy measure is assumed to have completely monotone density function, and a scaling-type condition inf z Psi"(z) / Psi'(z) > 0 is imposed on the Lévy-Khintchine exponent Psi. Proofs are based on generalised eigenfunction expansion for processes killed upon hitting the origin.
In [8] we established existence and uniqueness of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations in L^p under a monotonicity condition on the generator and in a general filtration. There was a mistake in the case 1 \textless{} p \textless{} 2. Here we give a corrected proof. Moreover the quasi-left continuity condition on the filtration is removed.
We study the Wiener-Hopf factorization for Lévy processes $X_t$ with completely monotone jumps. Extending previous results of L.C.G. Rogers, we prove that the space-time Wiener-Hopf factors are complete Bernstein functions of both the spatial and the temporal variable. As a corollary, we prove complete monotonicity of: (a) the tail of the distribution function of the supremum of $X_t$ up to an independent exponential time; (b) the Laplace transform of the supremum of $X_t$ up to a fixed time $T$, as a function of $T$. The proof involves a detailed analysis of the holomorphic extension of the c…
In this paper, we study multidimensional generalized BSDEs that have a monotone generator in a general filtration supporting a Brownian motion and an independent Poisson random measure. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of $\mathbb{L}^p(p\ge2)$-solutions in the case of a fixed terminal time under suitable $p$-integrability conditions on the data. Then, we extend these results to the case of a random terminal time. Furthermore, we provide a comparison result in dimension $1$.

The information dynamics in finance and insurance applications is usually modeled by a filtration. This paper looks at situations where information restrictions apply such that the information dynamics may become non-monotone. A fundamental tool for calculating and managing risks in finance and insurance are martingale representations. We present a general theory that extends classical martingale representations to non-monotone information generated by marked point processes. The central idea is to focus only on those properties that martingales and compensators show on infinitesimally short i…
We show a concise extension of the monotone stability approach to backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) that are jointly driven by a Brownian motion and a random measure for jumps, which could be of infinite activity with a non-deterministic and time inhomogeneous compensator. The BSDE generator function can be non convex and needs not to satisfy global Lipschitz conditions in the jump integrand. We contribute concrete criteria, that are easy to verify, for results on existence and uniqueness of bounded solutions to BSDEs with jumps, and on comparison and a-priori $L^{\infty}$-bou…
We prove that the mild solution to a semilinear stochastic evolution equation on a Hilbert space, driven by either a square integrable martingale or a Poisson random measure, is (jointly) continuous, in a suitable topology, with respect to the initial datum and all coefficients. In particular, if the leading linear operators are maximal (quasi-)monotone and converge in the strong resolvent sense, the drift and diffusion coefficients are uniformly Lipschitz continuous and converge pointwise, and the initial data converge, then the solutions converge.
We investigate piecewise deterministic Markov processes (PDMP), where the deterministic dynamics follows a scalar conservation law and random jumps in the system are characterized by changes in the flux function. We show under which assumptions we can guarantee the existence of a PDMP and conclude bounded variation estimates for sample paths. Finally, we apply this dynamics to a production and traffic model and use this framework to incorporate the well-known scattering of flux functions observed in data sets.

Stochastic evolution equations with compensated Poisson noise are considered in the variational approach with monotone and coercive coefficients. Here the Poisson noise is assumed to be time-homogeneous with $σ$-finite intensity measure on a metric space. By using finite element methods and Galerkin approximations, some explicit and implicit discretizations for this equation are presented and their convergence is proved. Polynomial growth condition and linear growth condition are assumed on the drift operator, respectively for the implicit and explicit schemes.
Motivated by earlier work on the use of fully-coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (henceforth FBSDEs) in the analysis of mathematical models for the CO2 emissions markets, the present study is concerned with the analysis of these equations when the generator of the forward equation has a conservative degenerate structure and the terminal condition of the backward equation is a non-smooth function of the terminal value of the forward component. We show that a general form of existence and uniqueness result still holds. When the function giving the terminal condition is bi…
A variety of real-world applications are modeled via hyperbolic conservation laws. To account for uncertainties or insufficient measurements, random coefficients may be incorporated. These random fields may depend discontinuously on the state space, e.g., to represent permeability in a heterogeneous or fractured medium. We introduce a suitable admissibility criterion for the resulting stochastic discontinuous-flux conservation law and prove its well-posedness. Therefore, we ensure the pathwise existence and uniqueness of the corresponding deterministic setting and present a novel proof for the…
