We study the late-time evolution of the Universe where dark energy (DE) is presented by a barotropic fluid on top of cold dark matter (CDM). We also take into account the radiation content of the Universe. Here by the late stage of the evolution we refer to the epoch where CDM is already clustered into inhomogeneously distributed discrete structures (galaxies, groups and clusters of galaxies). Under this condition the mechanical approach is an adequate tool to study the Universe deep inside the cell of uniformity. More precisely, we study scalar perturbations of the FLRW metric due to inhomogeneities of CDM as well as fluctuations of radiation and DE. For an arbitrary equation of state for DE we obtain a system of equations for the scalar perturbations within the mechanical approach. First, in the case of a constant DE equation of state parameter $w$, we demonstrate that our method singles out the cosmological constant as the only viable dark energy candidate. Then, we apply our approach to variable equation of state parameters in the form of three different linear parametrizations of $w$, e.g., the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder perfect fluid model. We conclude that all these models are incompatible with the theory of scalar perturbations in the late Universe.
The dark energy universe equation of state (EOS) with inhomogeneous,Hubble parameter dependent term is considered. The motivation to introduce such a term comes from time-dependent viscosity considerations and modifications of general relativity. For several explicit examples of such EOS it is demonstrated how the type of future singularity changes, how the phantom epoch emerges and how crossing of phantom barrier occurs. Similar cosmological regimes are considered for the universe with two interacting fluids and for universe with implicit EOS. For instance, the crossing of phantom barrier is …
We suggest to generalize the dark energy equation of state (EoS) by introduction the relaxation equation for pressure which is equivalent to consideration of the inhomogeneous EoS cosmic fluid which often appears as the effective model from strings/brane-worlds. As another, more wide generalization we discuss the inhomogeneous EoS which contains derivatives of pressure. For several explicit examples motivated by the analogy with classical mechanics the accelerating FRW cosmology is constructed. It turns out to be the asymptotically de Sitter or oscillating universe with possible transition fro…
The purpose of this short review is to describe cosmological models with a linear inhomogeneous time-dependent equation of state (EoS) for the dark energy, when the dark fluid is coupled with dark matter. This may lead to a bounce cosmology. We consider equivalent descriptions in terms of the EoS parameters for an exponential, a power-law, or a double-exponential law for the scale factor $a$. Stability issues are discussed by considering small perturbations around the critical points for the bounce, in the early as well as in the late, universe. The latter part of the paper is concerned with d…
The four-dimensional Friedman flat universe, filled with an ideal fluid with a linear (oscillating) inhomogeneous equation of state (EoS) depending on time, is studied. The equations of motion are solved. It is shown that in some cases there appears a quasi-periodic universe, which repeats the cycles of phantom-type space acceleration. The appearance of future singularities resulting from various choices for the input parameters is discussed.
In general relativity, for fluids with a linear equation of state (EoS) or scalar fields, the high isotropy of the universe requires special initial conditions, and singularities are anisotropic in general. In the brane world scenario anisotropy at the singularity is suppressed by an effective quadratic equation of state. There is no reason why the effective EoS of matter should be linear at the highest energies, and a non-linear EoS may describe dark energy or unified dark matter (Paper I, astro-ph/0512224). In view of this, here we study the effects of a quadratic EoS in homogenous and inhom…
Interest in cosmological singularities has remarkably grown in recent times, particularly on future singularities with the discovery of late-time acceleration of the universe and dark energy. Recent work has seen a proper classification of such singularities into strong and weak based on their strength, with weak singularities being the likes of sudden, w and big freeze singularities and strong singularities like the big rip. This has led to a classification of such singularities in various types like Big rip is Type 1, w-singularity is type V etc. While singularities of type I-type IV have be…
In this paper, we consider the Universe at the late stage of its evolution and deep inside the cell of uniformity. At these scales, the Universe is filled with inhomogeneously distributed discrete structures (galaxies, groups and clusters of galaxies). Supposing that the Universe contains also the cosmological constant and a perfect fluid with a negative constant equation of state (EoS) parameter $ω$ (e.g., quintessence, phantom or frustrated network of topological defects), we investigate scalar perturbations of the FRW metrics due to inhomogeneities. Our analysis shows that, to be compatible…
Specific dark energy models with a linear inhomogeneous time-dependent equation of state, within the framework of 4d Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology, are investigated. It is demonstrated that such 4d inhomogeneous fluid models may lead to a turbulence FRW cosmology. Both one-component and two-component models from 4d inhomogeneous dark fluid models are considered. In the one-component model the universe may develop from a viscous era with, for instance, a constant bulk viscosity, into a turbulent era. In the two-component model the fluid can be decomposed into two components, one non…
We investigate the general relativistic dynamics of Robertson-Walker models with a non-linear equation of state (EoS), focusing on the quadratic case P = P_0 + αρ+ βρ^2. This may be taken to represent the Taylor expansion of any arbitrary barotropic EoS, P(ρ). With the right combination of P_0, αand β, it serves as a simple phenomenological model for dark energy, or even unified dark matter. Indeed we show that this simple model for the EoS can produce a large variety of qualitatively different dynamical behaviors that we classify using dynamical systems theory. An almost universal feature is …
In this paper we have investigated the general form of viscous and non-viscous dark energy equation of state (EoS) parameter in the scope of anisotropic Bianchi type I space-time. We show that the presence of bulk viscosity causes transition of $ω^{de}$ from quintessence to phantom but the phantom state is an unstable state (as expected) and EoS of DE tends to $-1$ at late time. Then we show this phantomic description of the viscous dark energy and reconstruct the potential of the phantom scalar field. It is found that bulk viscosity pushes the universe to a darker region. We have also shown t…
Interest in cosmological singularities has remarkably grown in recent times, particularly on future singularities with the discovery of late-time acceleration of the universe and dark energy. While such explorations have previously been done in various modified gravity and quantum gravitationally inspired cosmologies (besides standard general relativistic cosmology), no such an endeavour has been taken up till now in the realms of renormalization group approaches to cosmology and we have hence took up on this journey. In this work, we consider the formation of cosmological singularities in an …
The gravitational collapse of a barotropic perfect fluid having the Equation of State (EoS) $p=kρ$, where $k$ is constant, is studied here in the framework of general relativity. We examine the restrictions on the Misner-Sharp mass function, because of the introduction of such an EoS, in terms of the compatibility of a certain pair of quasi-linear partial differential equations, obtained from Einstein's field equations. We find that except when this system of PDEs reduces to ODEs because of additional symmetries imposed on the spacetimes, or when they become compatible with each other in some …
We investigate emergent universe model using recent observational data for the background tests as well as for the growth tests. The background test data comprises of Hubble data, Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) data, cosmic microwave background (CMB) shift data, Union compilation data. The observational growth data are obtained from Wiggle-Z measurements and rms mass fluctuations data from Lyman-$α$ measurements at different red shifts. The flat emergent universe model obtained by Mukherjee {\it et. al.} is permitted with a non-linear equation of state (in short, EoS) ($p=Aρ-Bρ^{\frac{1}{2}…

General relativity (GR) characterizes gravity as a geometric properly exhibited as curvature on spacetime. Teleprallelism describes gravity through torsional properties, and can reproduce GR at the level of equations. Similar to f(R) gravity, on taking a generalization, f(T) gravity can produce various modifications its gravitational mechanism. The resulting field equations are inherently distinct to f(R) gravity in that they are second order. In the present work, f(T) gravity is examined in the cosmological context with a number of solutions reconstructed by means of an auxiliary scalar field…
In this paper, we propose a new phenomenological two parameter parametrization of $q(z)$ to constrain barotropic dark energy models by considering a spatially flat FRW universe, neglecting the radiation component, and reconstructing the effective equation of state (EoS). This two free-parameter EoS reconstruction shows a non-monotonic behavior, pointing to a more general fitting for the scalar field models, like thawing and freezing models. We constrain the $q(z)$ free parameters using the observational data of the Hubble parameter obtained from cosmic chronometers, the joint-light-analysis ty…
We investigate the equation of state (EoS) of the scalar-torsion mode in Poincaré gauge theory of gravity. We concentrate on two cases with the constant curvature solution and positive kinetic energy, respectively. In the former, we find that the torsion EoS has different values in the various stages of the universe. In particular, it behaves like the radiation (matter) EoS of $w_r=1/3$ ($w_m=0$) in the radiation (matter) dominant epoch, while in the late time the torsion density is supportive for the accelerating universe. In the latter, our numerical analysis shows that in general the EoS ha…
The accelerating Friedmann flat universe, filled with an ideal fluid with a linear (oscillating) inhomogeneous equation of state (EoS) depending on time, is reviewed. The equations of motions are solved. It is shown that in some cases there appears a quasi-periodic universe, which repeats the cycles of phantom-type space acceleration.
We explore the cosmological constraints on the parameter w_dm of the dark matter barotropic equation of state (EoS) to investigate the "warmness" of the dark matter fluid. The model is composed by the dark matter and dark energy fluids in addition to the radiation and baryon components. We constrain the values of w_dm using the latest cosmological observations that measure the expansion history of the Universe. When w_dm is estimated together with the parameter w_de of the barotropic EoS of dark energy we found that the cosmological data favor a value of w_dm = 0.006 +- 0.001, suggesting a -wa…
The inhomogeneous cosmological model with matter in the form self-acting scalar field and perfect fluid is considered. On the basis of exact solutions is considered the evolution of density distribution of a matter in space on a background cosmological expansion by the Universe. Is shown, the first, in such model the equation of a matter state is variable in time and is closely connected to character cosmological expansions. Secondly, it is shown with point of view of the observer the Universe looks as space flat, but with effect of latent mass. This effect consists in that the mass of a perfe…
Recently, spatially inhomogeneous cosmological models have been proposed as an alternative to the LCDM model, with the aim of reproducing the late time dynamics of the Universe without introducing a cosmological constant or dark energy. This paper investigates the possibility of distinguishing such models from the standard LCDM using background or large scale structure data. It also illustrates and emphasizes the necessity of testing the Copernican principle in order to confront the tests of general relativity with the large scale structure.
Primordial gravitational waves (GWs) carry the imprints of the dynamics of the universe during its earliest stages. With a variety of GW detectors being proposed to operate over a wide range of frequencies, there is great expectation that observations of primordial GWs can provide us with an unprecedented window to the physics operating during inflation and reheating. In this work, we closely examine the effects of the regime of reheating on the spectrum of primordial GWs observed today. We consider a scenario wherein the phase of reheating is described by an averaged equation of state (EoS) p…

Since the late 1990's observations of type Ia Supernova, our universe is predicted to experience a late time cosmic acceleration. Theoretical support to this observation were intended to be built via proposition of a hypothetical fluid which staying inside the universe exerts negative pressure. Cosmologists have prescribed many candidates for this exotic fluid so far. In this alley, a popular method is to choose time dependent equation of state parameter $ω= \frac{p}ρ$ and to parametrize it as a function of redshift. Again some common families of such parametrizations are constructed among whi…
The late inspiral, merger, and ringdown of a black hole-neutron star (BHNS) system can provide information about the neutron-star equation of state (EOS). Candidate EOSs can be approximated by a parametrized piecewise-polytropic EOS above nuclear density, matched to a fixed low-density EOS; and we report results from a large set of BHNS inspiral simulations that systematically vary two parameters. To within the accuracy of the simulations, we find that, apart from the neutron-star mass, a single physical parameter Lambda, describing its deformability, can be extracted from the late inspiral, m…
We investigate cosmological models with a linear inhomogeneous time-dependent equation of state for the dark energy, coupled with dark matter, leading to a bounce cosmology. Equivalent descriptions in terms of the equation-of-state parameters for an exponential, a power-law, or a double exponential form of the scale factor $a$ is obtained. The stability of the solutions is explored, by considering small perturbations around the critical points for the bounce in the early and in the late-time universe.
We obtain a scaling relation for spherically symmetric k-essence scalar fields $ϕ(r,t)$ for an inhomogeneous cosmology with the Lemaitre-Tolman- Bondi (LTB) metric. We show that this scaling relation reduces to the known relation for a homogeneous cosmology when the LTB metric reduces to the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric under certain identifications of the metric functions. A k-essence lagrangian is set up and the Euler-Lagrangian equations solved assuming $ϕ(r,t)=ϕ_{1}(r) + ϕ_{2}(t)$. The solutions enable the LBT metric functions to be related to the fields. The LTB inhom…
We study large-scale inhomogeneous perturbations and instabilities of interacting dark energy (IDE) models. Past analysis of large-scale perturbative instabilities, has shown that we can only test IDE models with observational data when its parameter ranges are either $w_{x}\geq -1$ and $ξ\geq 0,$ or $w_{x}\leq -1~$ and $~ξ\leq 0$, where $w_{x}$ is the dark energy equation of state (EoS), and $ξ$ is a coupling parameter governing the strength and direction of the energy transfer. We show that by adding a factor $(1+w_{x})$ to the background energy transfer, the whole parameter space can be tes…
We consider a fluid described by a parameterized EoS of the general form $P=(γ-1)ρ+p_{0}+ω_{H}H+ω_{H2}H^{2}+ω_{dH}\dot{H}$ \cite{Ren}, where $p_{0}$, $ω_{H}$, $ω_{H2}$ and $ω_{dH}$ are free parameters of the model, interacting with a Tachyonic field with a relativistic Lagrangian $L_{TF}=-V(ϕ)\sqrt{1-\partial_{i}ϕ\partial^{i}ϕ}$. The acceleration of the Universe described by a scale factor $a(t)=t^{n}, (n>1)$. Under consideration of different forms of interaction the field $ϕ$ and the potential $V(ϕ)$ are recovered and graphical analysis performed. For illustration purposes we fixed values of …
We investigate the turbulence effect in dark fluid universe with linear inhomogeneous equation of state. Attention is attached to two physical situations. First, we perform the perturbative analysis of turbulence and check its effects around the Big Rip. Later, treating the turbulence energy density as a part of total dark fluid, we study the stability of the system. The result shows that the stability is achieving as the energy density of turbulence decreases, changing into heat (the radiation), in perfect agreement with the avoidance of the Big Rip.
We investigate a simple inhomogeneous anisotropic cosmology (plane symmetric $G_2$ model) filled with a tilted perfect fluid undergoing velocity diffusion on a scalar field. Considered are two types of fluid: dust and radiation. We solve the system of Einstein field equations and diffusion equations numerically and demonstrate how the universe evolves towards its future asymptotic state. Also, typical time scales of characteristic processes are determined. The obtained results for dust- and radiation-filled cosmologies are compared to each other and to those in the diffusionless case, giving a…
Assuming homogeneous isotropic Lambda-CDM cosmology allows Lambda, spatial curvature and dark matter density to be inferred from large scale structure observations such as supernovae. The purpose of this paper is to extend this to allow observations to measure or constrain inhomogeneity and anisotropy. We obtain the general inhomogeneous anisotropic Lambda-CDM solution which is locally asymptotic to an expanding de Sitter solution as a late time expansion using Starobinsky's method (analogous to the `holographic renormalization' technique in AdS/CFT) together with a resummation of the series. …
Within the scope of an anisotropic Bianchi type-V cosmological model we have studied the evolution of the universe. The assumption of a diagonal energy-momentum tensor leads to some severe restriction on the metric functions, which on its part imposes restriction on the components of the energy momentum tensor. This model allows anisotropic matter distribution. Further using the proportionality condition that relates the shear scalar $(σ)$ in the model is proportional to expansion scalar $(\vartheta)$ and the variation law of Hubble parameter, connecting Hubble parameter with volume scale. Exa…
We investigate the late time acceleration with a Chaplygin type of gas in spherically symmetric inhomogeneous model. At the early phase we get Einstien-deSitter type of solution generalised to inhomogeneous spacetime. But at late stage of the evolution our solutions admit the accelerating nature of the universe. For a large scale factor our model behaves like a ?CDM model. We calculate the deceleration parameter for this anisotropic model, which, unlike its homogeneous counterpart, shows that the flip is not syn- chronous occurring early at the outer shells. This is in line with other physical…
We modify Einstein General Relativity by adding non-dynamical scalar fields to account simultaneously for both dark matter and dark energy. The dark energy in this case can be distributed in-homogeneously even within horizon scales. Its inhomogeneities can contribute to the late time integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect, possibly removing some of the low multipole anomalies in the temperature fluctuations of the CMB spectrum. The presence of the inhomogeneous dark matter also influences structure formation in the universe.

We describe the accelerated expansion of the late-time universe using a generalized equation of state (EoS) when account is taken of bulk viscosity. We assume a homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. Solutions of the gravitational equations for dark energy are obtained in implicit form. Characteristic properties of the Universe evolution in the presence of the viscosity effects are discussed. Finally, the dynamics of the accelerated expansion of the viscous universe is discussed, on the basis of a modified logarithmic-corrected EoS.
This paper is devoted to investigate the anisotropic locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type-I space-time in the context of the recently proposed $f(Q)$ gravity in which $Q$ is the non-metricity scalar. For this purpose, we consider a linear form of $f\left( Q\right) $ gravity model, specifically, $f\left( Q\right) =αQ+β$, where $α$ and $% β$ are free parameters and we analyzed the exact solutions of LRS Bianchi type-I space-time. The modified Friedmann equations are solved by presuming an expansion scalar $θ\left( t\right) $ is proportional to the shear scalar $σ\left( t\right) $ wh…
We develop a method for implementing a proposal on utilizing knowledge of neutron star (NS) equation of state (EoS) for inferring the Hubble constant from a population of binary neutron star (BNS) mergers. This method is useful in exploiting BNSs as standard sirens when their redshifts are not available. Gravitational wave (GW) signals from compact object binaries provide a direct measurement of their luminosity distances, but not their redshifts. Unlike in the past, here we employ a realistic EoS parametrization in a Bayesian framework to simultaneously measure the Hubble constant and refine …
We review the quantum Yang-Mills condensate (YMC) dark energy models. As the effective Yang-Mills Lagrangian is completely determined by the quantum field theory, there is no adjustable parameter in the model except the energy scale. In this model, the equation-of-state (EOS) of the YMC dark energy, $w_y > -1$ and $w_y < -1$, can both be naturally realized. By studying the evolution of various components in the model, we find that, in the early stage of the universe, dark energy tracked the evolution of the radiation, i.e. $w_y \to 1/3$. However, in the late stage, $w_y$ naturally runs to the …
The asymptotic behaviour at late times of inhomogeneous axion-dilaton cosmologies is investigated. The space-times considered here admit two abelian space-like Killing vectors. These space-times evolve towards an anisotropic universe containing gravitational radiation. Furthermore, a peeling-off behaviour of the Weyl tensor and the antisymmetric tensor field strength is found. The relation to the pre-big-bang scenario is briefly discussed.
Exact results stemming directly from Einstein equations imply that inhomogeneous Universes endowed with vanishing pressure density can only decelerate, unless the energy density of the Universe becomes negative. Recent proposals seem to argue that inhomogeneous (but isotropic) space-times, filled only with incoherent matter, may turn into accelerated Universes for sufficiently late times. To scrutinize these scenarios, fully inhomogeneous Einstein equations are discussed in the synchronous system. In a dust-dominated Universe, the inhomogeneous generalization of the deceleration parameter is al…
We study polarized Gowdy cosmologies on the three torus coupled to a massive scalar field. The phase space of the model admits a simple splitting between homogeneous and inhomogeneous sectors after a suitable gauge fixing. The presence of the mass term of the scalar field breaks the linearity of the equations of motion of the inhomogeneous fields. We discuss regimes of physical interest in which we recover a linear dynamics of these nonperturbative inhomogeneities, despite the metric is fully inhomogeneous at early times. We expand the inhomogeneous fields in Fourier modes and express them at …
In this thesis we investigate cosmological models more general than the isotropic and homogeneous Friedmann-Lemaitre models. We focus on cosmologies with one spatial degree of freedom, whose matter content consists of a perfect fluid and the cosmological constant. We formulate the Einstein field equations as a system of quasilinear first order partial differential equations, using scale-invariant variables. The primary goal is to study the dynamics in the two asymptotic regimes, i.e. near the initial singularity and at late times. We highlight the role of spatially homogeneous dynamics as the …
