We investigate two classes of models of quintessential inflation, based upon canonical as well as noncanonical scalar fields. In particular, introducing potentials steeper than the standard exponential, we construct models that can give rise to a successful inflationary phase, with signatures consistent with Planck 2015 results. Additionally, using nonminimal coupling of the scalar field with massive neutrino matter, we obtain the standard thermal history of the Universe, with late-time cosmic acceleration as the last stage of evolution. In both cases, inflation and late-time acceleration are connected by a tracker solution.
We study in detail a new model of quintessential inflation where the inflaton field is coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet term. This coupling ensures that the variation of the field is kept sub-Planckian, which avoids the 5th force problem as well as the lifting of the flatness of the quintessential tail in the runaway scalar potential due to radiative corrections. We find that the inflationary predictions of the model are in excellent agreement with CMB observations, while the coincidence requirement of dark energy is satisfied with natural values of the parameters, overcoming thereby the extreme fi…
The present work is a sequel of our previous work Phys.Rev.D { 93}, 084018 (2016) [arXiv:1601.08175 [gr-qc]] cite{hap} which depicted a simple version of an inflationary quintessential model whose inflationary stage was described by a Higgs type potential and the quintessential phase was responsible due to an exponential potential. Additionally, the model predicted a nonsingular universe in past which was geodesically past incomplete. Further, it was also found that the model is in agreement with the Planck 2013 data when running is allowed. But, this model was found to be unsuccessful with Pl…
Quintessential inflation unifies inflation and late time acceleration by a single scalar field. Such a scenario, with canonical and non-canonical scalar fields, has been discussed . The scalar field behaves as an inflaton field during inflation and as a quintessence field during late time. Also the predictions of the models has been compared with the recent Planck data.
From the assumption that the slow roll parameter $ε$ has a Lorentzian form as a function of the e-folds number $N$, a successful model of a quintessential inflation is obtained. The form corresponds to the vacuum energy both in the inflationary and in the dark energy epochs. The form satisfies the condition to climb from small values of $ε$ to $1$ at the end of the inflationary epoch. At the late universe $ε$ becomes small again and this leads to the Dark Energy epoch. The observables that the models predicts fits with the latest Planck data: $r \sim 10^{-3}, n_s \approx 0.965$. Naturally a la…
We study the bispectrum of the primordial curvature perturbation on uniform-density hypersurfaces generated by a kind of the noncanonical warm inflation, wherein the inflation is provided by a noncanonical scalar inflaton field that is coupled to radiation through a thermal dissipation effect. We obtain an analytic form for the nonlinear parameter $f_{NL}$ that describes the non-Gaussianity in first-order cosmological perturbation theory and analyse the magnitude of this nonlinear parameter. We make a comparison between our result and those of the standard inflation and the canonical warm infl…
In this paper we study a class of quintessential Einstein Gauss-Bonnet models, focusing on their early and late-time phenomenology. With regard to the early-time phenomenology, we formalize the slow-roll evolution of these models and we calculate in detail the spectral index of the primordial curvature perturbations and the tensor-to-scalar ratio. As we demonstrate, the resulting observational indices can be compatible with both the Planck and the BICEP2/Keck-Array observational constraints on inflation. With regard to the late-time behavior, by performing a numerical analysis we demonstrate t…
By making use of a class of steep exponential type of potentials, which has been recently used to describe quintessential inflation, we show how a unified picture for both inflation, dark energy and dark matter can emerge entirely through dissipative effects. Dissipation provides a way for extending the applicability of a larger class of these potentials in the sense of leading to a consistent early Universe inflationary picture and producing observables in agreement with the Planck legacy data. Likewise, dissipative effects lead to dark matter production with consistent abundances and, toward…
A novel approach to quintessential inflation model building is studied, within the framework of $α$-attractors, motivated by supergravity theories. Inflationary observables are in excellent agreement with the latest CMB observations, while quintessence explains the dark energy observations without any fine-tuning. The model is kept intentionally minimal, avoiding the introduction of many degrees of freedom, couplings and mass scales. In stark contrast to $Λ$CDM, for natural values of the parameters, the model attains transient accelerated expansion, which avoids the future horizon problem, whi…
We study quintessential inflation with an inverse hyperbolic type potential $V(ϕ) = {V_0}/{\cosh \left( {ϕ^n}/{λ^n} \right)}$, where $V_0$, $λ$ and "n" are parameters of the theory. We obtain a bound on $λ$ for different values of the parameter n. The spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar-ratio fall in the $1 σ$ bound given by the Planck 2015 data for $n \geq 5$ for certain values of $λ$. However for $3 \leq n < 5$ there exist values of $λ$ for which the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar-ratio fall only within the $2 σ$ bound of the Planck data. Furthermore, we show that the scalar fie…
We study a model of quintessential inflation in the context of Palatini gravity. As a representative example, we consider the Peebles-Vilenkin model of quintessential inflation with a small non-minimal coupling to gravity, which is consistent with the most recent Planck measurements. At the end of inflation, the inflaton field passes through a tachyonic region and it leads to explosive particle production through the tachyonic preheating process. After preheating, the Universe becomes dominated by the kinetic energy of the inflaton and enters a period of kination. Eventually, the total energy …
We study the consequences of reheating in quintessential inflation. From simple inflationary quintessential models introduced in cite{hap, hap2}, we show that when the reheating is due to the production of heavy massive particles conformally coupled with gravity, a viable model which matches with the current observational data cite{Ade, Planck, bicep2} is only possible for reheating temperatures that range between $1$ GeV and $10^4$ GeV. On the other hand, when the universe reheats via the production of massless particles, the viability of the model is only possible when those particles are ne…
We have tested some simple quintessential inflation models, imposing that they match with the recent observational data provided by the BICEP and Planck's team and leading to a reheating temperature, which is obtained via gravitational particle production after inflation, supporting the nucleosynthesis success. Moreover, for the models coming from supergravity one needs to demand low temperatures in order to avoid problems such as the gravitino overproduction or the gravitational production of moduli fields, which are obtained only when the reheating temperature is due to the production of mas…
We investigate a single field model in the context of the constant-roll inflation in which inflaton moves down to the minimum point of the potential with a constant rate of rolling. We use a quintessential inflationary model obtained by a Lorentzian function which is dependent on the number of e-folds. We present the inflationary analysis for the model and find the observational constraints on the parameters space using the observations of CMB anisotropies \textit{i.e.} the Planck and Keck/array datasets. We find the observationally acceptable values of the Width of the Lorentzian function as …
We study quintessential inflation using a generalized exponential potential $V(ϕ)\propto exp(-λϕ^n/Mpl^n), n>1$, the model admits slow-roll inflation at early times and leads to close-to-scaling behaviour in the post inflationary era with an exit to dark energy at late times. We present detailed investigations of the inflationary stage in the light of the Planck 2015 results, study post-inflationary dynamics and analytically confirm the existence of an approximately scaling solution. Additionally, assuming that standard massive neutrinos are non-minimally coupled, makes the field $ϕ$ dominant …
We study relic gravitational waves in the paradigm of quintessential inflation. In this framework, irrespective of the underlying model, inflation is followed by the kinetic regime. Thereafter, the field energy density remains sub-dominant before the onset of acceleration. We carry out model independent analysis to obtain the temperature at the end of inflation and the estimate for upper bound on the Hubble parameter to circumvent the problem due to relic gravitational waves. In this process, we used Planck 2015 data to constrain the inflationary phase. We demonstrate that the required tempera…
In this paper, we investigate a scenario of variable gravity and apply it to the unified description of inflation and late time cosmic acceleration dubbed quintessential inflation. The scalar field called "cosmon" which in this model unifies both the concepts reduces to inflaton at early epochs. We calculate the slow-roll parameters, the Hubble parameter at the end of inflation, the reheating temperature, the tensor-to-scalar ration and demonstrate the agreement of the model with observations and the Planck data.As for the post inflationary dynamics, cosmon tracks the background before it exits…
We study inflation with the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) noncanonical scalar field in both the cold and warm scenarios. We consider the Anti-de Sitter warp factor $f(ϕ)=f_{0}/ϕ^{4}$ for the DBI inflation and check viability of the quartic potential $V(ϕ)=λϕ^{4}/4$ in light of the Planck 2015 observational results. In the cold DBI setting, we find that the prediction of this potential in the $r-n_s$ plane is in conflict with Planck 2015 TT,TE,EE+lowP data. This motivates us to focus on the warm DBI inflation with constant sound speed. We conclude that in contrary to the case of cold scenario, the $r…
Single field inflation in the light of Pulsar Timing Array Data: Quintessential interpretation of blue tilted tensor spectrum through Non-Bunch Davies initial condition
In this work we shall study the late-time dynamics of several $F(R)$ gravity models. By appropriately expressing the field equations in terms of the redshift and of a statefinder function, we shall solve numerically the field equations using appropriate physical motivated initial conditions. We consider models which, by construction, are described by a nearly $R^2$-model at early epochs and we fine tune the parameters to achieve viability and compatibility with the latest Planck constraints at late times. Such models provide a unified description of inflation and dark energy era and notably a …
Currently there is no definitive description for the accelerated expansion of the Universe at both early and late times; we know these two periods as the epochs of inflation and dark energy. Contained within this Thesis are two studies of inflation and one in the context of dark energy. The first study involves two noncanonical kinetic terms each in a two-field scenario, and their effects on the generation of isocurvature modes. As a result, these terms affect the isocurvature perturbations produced, and consequently the Cosmic Microwave Background. In the following study, the impact of a shar…
We study cosmological self-reproduction in models of inflation driven by a scalar field $ϕ$ with a noncanonical kinetic term ($k$-inflation). We develop a general criterion for the existence of attractors and establish conditions selecting a class of $k$-inflation models that admit a unique attractor solution. We then consider quantum fluctuations on the attractor background. We show that the correlation length of the fluctuations is of order $c_{s}H^{-1}$, where $c_{s}$ is the speed of sound. By computing the magnitude of field fluctuations, we determine the coefficients of Fokker-Planck equa…
We investigate the inflationary consequences of the oscillating dark energy model proposed by Tián [\href{https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.101.063531}{Phys. Rev. D {\bf 101}, 063531 (2020)}], which aims to solve the cosmological coincidence problem with multi-accelerating Universe (MAU). We point out that the inflationary dynamics belong to slow-roll inflation. The spectral index of scalar perturbations and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ are shown to be consistent with current \textit{Planck} measurements. Especially, this model predicts $r\sim10^{-7}$, which is far below the observation limit…
