The thermodynamics of hot and dense matter created in heavy-ion collision experiments are usually studied as a system of infinite volume. Here we report on possible effects for considering a finite system size for such matter in the framework of the Hadron Resonance Gas model. The bulk thermodynamic variables as well as the fluctuations of conserved charges are considered. We find that the finite size effects are insignificant once the observables are scaled with the respective volumes. The only substantial effect is found in the fluctuations of electric charge which may therefore be used to extract information about the volume of fireball created in heavy-ion collision experiments.
We study the correlation between the distributions of the net-charge, net-kaon, net-baryon and net-proton number at hadronization and after the final hadronic decoupling by simulating ultra relativistic heavy ion collisions with the hybrid version of the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model. We find that due to the hadronic rescattering these distributions are not strongly correlated. The calculated change of the correlation, during the hadronic expansion stage, does not support the recent paradigm, namely that the measured final moments of the experimentally observed dis…
We investigate the effects of repulsive interaction between hadrons on the fluctuations of the conserved charges. We calculate the baryon, the electric charge and the strangeness susceptibilities within the ambit of hadron resonance gas model extended to include the short range repulsive interactions. The repulsive interactions are included through a mean-field approach where the single particle energy gets modified due to mean field interactions between hadrons proportional to the number density of hadrons. We assume different mean-field interactions for mesons and baryons. It is shown that the …
Bulk matter produced in heavy ion collisions has multiple conserved quantum numbers like baryon number, strangeness and electric charge. The diffusion process of these charges can be described by a diffusion matrix describing the interdependence of diffusion of different charges. The diffusion coefficient matrix is estimated here from the Boltzmann kinetic theory for the hadronic phase within relaxation time approximation. In the derivation for the same, we impose the Landau-Lifshitz conditions of fit. This leads to e.g. the diagonal diffusion coefficients to be manifestly positive definite. T…
We simultaneously incorporate two common extensions of the hadron resonance gas model, namely the addition of extra, unconfirmed resonances to the particle list and the excluded volume repulsive interactions. We emphasize the complementary nature of these two extensions and identify combinations of conserved charge susceptibilities that allow to constrain them separately. In particular, ratios of second-order susceptibilities like $χ_{11}^{BQ}/χ_2^B$ and $χ_{11}^{BS}/χ_2^B$ are sensitive only to the baryon spectrum, while fourth-to-second order ratios like $χ_4^B/χ_2^B$, $χ_{31}^{BS}/χ_{11}^{B…
In this paper we discuss the interacting hadron resonance gas model in presence of a constant external magnetic field. The short range repulsive interaction between hadrons are accounted through van der Waals excluded volume correction to the ideal gas pressure. Here we take the sizes of hadrons as $r_π$ (pion radius) $= 0$ fm, $r_K$ (kaon radius) $= 0.35$ fm, $r_m$ (all other meson radii) $= 0.3$ fm and $r_b$ (baryon radii) $= 0.5$ fm. We analyse the effect of uniform background magnetic field on the thermodynamic properties of interacting hadron gas. We especially discuss the effect of inter…
We discuss the role of repulsive baryon-baryon interactions in a hadron gas using relativistic virial expansion and repulsive mean field approaches. The fluctuations of the baryon number as well as strangeness-baryon correlations are calculated in the hadron resonance gas with repulsive interactions and compared with the recent lattice QCD results. In particular, we calculate the difference between the second and fourth order fluctuations and correlations of baryon number and strangeness, that have been proposed as probes of deconfinement. We show that for not too high temperatures these diffe…
The quantum van der Waals (QvdW) extension of the ideal hadron resonance gas (HRG) model which includes the attractive and repulsive interactions between baryons -- the QvdW-HRG model -- is applied to study the behavior of the baryon number related susceptibilities in the crossover temperature region. Inclusion of the QvdW interactions leads to a qualitatively different behavior of susceptibilities, in many cases resembling lattice QCD simulations. It is shown that for some observables, in particular for $χ_{11}^{BQ} / χ_2^B$, effects of the QvdW interactions essentially cancel out. It is foun…
We present cross-correlators of QCD conserved charges at $μ_B=0$ from lattice simulations and perform a Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model analysis to break down the hadronic contributions to these correlators. We construct a suitable hadronic proxy for the ratio $-χ_{11}^{BS}/χ_2^S$ and discuss the dependence on the chemical potential and experimental cuts. We then perform a comparison to preliminary STAR results and comment on a possible direct comparison of lattice and experiment.
We discuss the interacting hadron resonance gas model to describe the thermodynamics of hadronic matter. While the attractive interaction between hadrons is taken care of by including all the resonances with zero width, the repulsive interactions are included by considering density-dependent mean field potentials. The bulk thermodynamic quantities are confronted with the lattice quantum chromodynamics simulation results at zero as well as at finite baryon chemical potential. We further estimate the shear and bulk viscosity coefficients of hot and dense hadronic matter within the ambit of this …
We update lattice QCD results for second order cumulants of conserved charge fluctuations and correlations at non-zero temperature and vanishing values of the conserved charge chemical potentials. We compare these results to hadron resonance gas calculations with and without excluded volume terms as well as S-matrix results in the hadronic phase of QCD, and comment on their current limitations. We, furthermore, use these results to characterize thermal conditions in the vicinity of the pseudo-critical line of the chiral transition in QCD. We argue that the ratio of strange to baryon chemical p…
The chemical freeze-out parameters in central nucleus-nucleus collisions are extracted consistently from hadron yield data within the quantum van der Waals (QvdW) hadron resonance gas model. The beam energy dependences for skewness and kurtosis of net baryon, net electric, and net strangeness charges are predicted. The QvdW interactions in asymmetric matter, $Q/B \neq 0.5$, between (anti)baryons yield a non-congruent liquid-gas phase transition, together with a nuclear critical point (CP) with critical temperature of $T_c=19.5$ MeV. The nuclear CP yields the collision energy dependence of the …
In the current work, we study the influence of a finite volume on $2+1$ $SU(3)$ Polyakov Quark-Meson model (PQM) order parameters, (fluctuations) correlations of conserved charges and the quark-hadron phase boundary. Our study of the PQM model order parameters and the (fluctuations) correlations of conserved charges indicates a sizable shift of the quark-hadron phase boundary to higher values of baryon chemical potential ($μ_{B}$) and temperature ($T$) for decreasing the system volume. The detailed study of such effect could have important implications for the extraction of the (fluctuations) …
In this work we discuss a modified version of Excluded Volume Hadron Resonance Gas model and also study the effect of Lorentz contraction of the excluded volume on scaled pressure and susceptibilities of conserved charges. We find that the Lorentz contraction, coupled with the variety of excluded volume parameters reproduce the lattice QCD data quite satisfactorily.
The effect of inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC) has been observed on the conserved charge fluctuations and the correlations along the chemical freeze-out curve in a hadron resonance gas model. The fluctuations and the correlations have been compared with and without charge conservations. The charge conservation plays an important role in the calculation of the fluctuations at nonzero magnetic field and for the fluctuations in the strange charge at zero magnetic field. The charge conservation diminishes the correlations $χ_{BS}$ and $χ_{QB}$, but enhances the correlation $χ_{QS}$. The baryonic f…

We present here continuum extrapolated results for all 2nd order cumulants using the most recent results obtained by the HotQCD collaboration in (2+1)-flavor QCD. We constrain the applicability of various HRG models by presenting a detailed comparison of our results based on different sets of hadron spectra as well as with virial expansion based model calculations. A comparison with our lattice QCD results for 2nd order cumulants with models that parametrize repulsive interactions among baryons and anti-baryons in a hadron resonance gas through a single excluded volume parameter (EVHRG) is als…
Thermal-FIST (Thermal, Fast and Interactive Statistical Toolkit) is a C++ package designed for a convenient general-purpose physics analysis within the family of hadron resonance gas (HRG) models. This mainly includes the statistical analysis of particle production in heavy-ion collisions and the phenomenology of hadronic equation of state. Notable features include fluctuations and correlations of conserved charges, effects of probabilistic decay, chemical non-equilibrium, and inclusion of van der Waals hadronic interactions. Calculations are possible within the grand canonical ensemble, the c…
An extension of the van der Waals hadron resonance gas (VDWHRG) model which includes in-medium thermal modification of hadron masses, the TVDWHRG model, is considered in this paper. Based on the 2+1 flavor Polyakov Linear Sigma Model(PLSM) and the scaling mass rule for hadrons we obtain the temperature behavior of all hadron masses for different fixed baryon chemical potentials $μ_{B}$. We calculate various thermodynamic observables at $μ_{B}=0$ GeV in TVDWHRG model. An improved agreement with the lattice data by TVDWHRG model in the crossover region ($T\sim 0.16-0.19$ GeV) is observed as comp…
The thermodynamic properties of a non-interacting ideal Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) of finite volume have been studied in the presence of an external magnetic field. The inclusion of background magnetic field in the calculation of thermodynamic potential is done by the modification of the dispersion relations of the charged hadrons in terms of Landau quantization. The generalized Matsubara prescription has been employed to take into account the finite size effects in which a periodic (anti-periodic) boundary conditions is considered for the mesons (baryons). We find significant effects of the m…
In this letter the dualities of thermodynamics of dense quark/hadronic matter are discussed. It is shown that chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) phenomenon is dual to charged pion condensation (PC) phenomenon.
In general, the constituents of the bulk matter produced in heavy-ion collisions carry, besides electric charge, multiple other conserved quantum numbers like baryon number and strangeness. Therefore, an electric field will not only generate an electric current but, at the same time, also currents in baryon number and strangeness. We propose that the impact of the electric field on these conserved currents should be characterized by additional transport coefficients, which we call cross-conductivities. In this paper, we introduce and present a calculation of these cross-conductivities from the…
The bulk nuclear matter produced in heavy ion collisions carries a multitude of conserved quantum numbers: electric charge, baryon number, and strangeness. Therefore, the diffusion processes associated to these conserved charges cannot occur independently and must be described in terms of a set of coupled diffusion equations. This physics is implemented by replacing the traditional diffusion coefficients for each conserved charge by a diffusion coefficient matrix, which quantifies the coupling between the conserved quantum numbers. The diagonal coefficients of this matrix are the usual charge …
