其次,由于良好特征对于构建良好图极其重要,我们提出在一个框架内联合学习数据嵌入矩阵并构建图,该方法被称为具有嵌入特征的NNLRS(NNLRS with embedded features,简称NNLRS-EF)。在三个公开可用数据集上的大量实验表明,在半监督分类和判别分析两方面,所提方法均大幅优于最先进的图构建方法,这验证了本文所提方法的有效性。

This paper aims at constructing a good graph for discovering intrinsic data structures in a semi-supervised learning setting. Firstly, we propose to build a non-negative low-rank and sparse (referred to as NNLRS) graph for the given data representation. Specifically, the weights of edges in the graph are obtained by seeking a nonnegative low-rank and sparse matrix that represents each data sample as a linear combination of others. The so-obtained NNLRS-graph can capture both the global mixture of subspaces structure (by the low rankness) and the locally linear structure (by the sparseness) of the data, hence is both generative and discriminative. Secondly, as good features are extremely important for constructing a good graph, we propose to learn the data embedding matrix and construct the graph jointly within one framework, which is termed as NNLRS with embedded features (referred to as NNLRS-EF). Extensive experiments on three publicly available datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art graph construction method by a large margin for both semi-supervised classification and discriminative analysis, which verifies the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Sparse coding has achieved a great success in various image processing tasks. However, a benchmark to measure the sparsity of image patch/group is missing since sparse coding is essentially an NP-hard problem. This work attempts to fill the gap from the perspective of rank minimization. More details please see the manuscript....

In dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, low-rank plus sparse (L+S) decomposition, or robust principal component analysis (PCA), has achieved stunning performance. However, the selection of the parameters of L+S is empirical, and the acceleration rate is limited, which are common failings of iterative compressed sensing MR imaging (CS-MRI) reconstruction methods. Many deep learning approaches have been proposed to address these issues, but few of them use a low-rank prior. In this paper, a model-based low-rank plus sparse network, dubbed L+S-Net, is proposed for dynamic MR reconstruction. I…

Sparse coding, which represents a data point as a sparse reconstruction code with regard to a dictionary, has been a popular data representation method. Meanwhile, in database retrieval problems, learning the ranking scores from data points plays an important role. Up to now, these two problems have always been considered separately, assuming that data coding and ranking are two independent and irrelevant problems. However, is there any internal relationship between sparse coding and ranking score learning? If yes, how to explore and make use of this internal relationship? In this paper, we tr…
Foreground detection in a given video sequence is a pivotal step in many computer vision applications such as video surveillance system. Robust Principal Component Analysis (RPCA) performs low-rank and sparse decomposition and accomplishes such a task when the background is stationary and the foreground is dynamic and relatively small. A fundamental issue with RPCA is the assumption that the low-rank and sparse components are added at each element, whereas in reality, the moving foreground is overlaid on the background. We propose the representation via masked decomposition (i.e. an overlaying…

This work presents a general framework for solving the low rank and/or sparse matrix minimization problems, which may involve multiple non-smooth terms. The Iteratively Reweighted Least Squares (IRLS) method is a fast solver, which smooths the objective function and minimizes it by alternately updating the variables and their weights. However, the traditional IRLS can only solve a sparse only or low rank only minimization problem with squared loss or an affine constraint. This work generalizes IRLS to solve joint/mixed low rank and sparse minimization problems, which are essential formulations…
We study a data model in which the data matrix D can be expressed as D = L + S + C, where L is a low rank matrix, S an element-wise sparse matrix and C a matrix whose non-zero columns are outlying data points. To date, robust PCA algorithms have solely considered models with either S or C, but not both. As such, existing algorithms cannot account for simultaneous element-wise and column-wise corruptions. In this paper, a new robust PCA algorithm that is robust to simultaneous types of corruption is proposed. Our approach hinges on the sparse approximation of a sparsely corrupted column so that…
A new submodule clustering method via sparse and low-rank representation for multi-way data is proposed in this paper. Instead of reshaping multi-way data into vectors, this method maintains their natural orders to preserve data intrinsic structures, e.g., image data kept as matrices. To implement clustering, the multi-way data, viewed as tensors, are represented by the proposed tensor sparse and low-rank model to obtain its submodule representation, called a free module, which is finally used for spectral clustering. The proposed method extends the conventional subspace clustering method base…
In this paper, we design a Collaborative-Hierarchical Sparse and Low-Rank (C-HiSLR) model that is natural for recognizing human emotion in visual data. Previous attempts require explicit expression components, which are often unavailable and difficult to recover. Instead, our model exploits the lowrank property over expressive facial frames and rescue inexact sparse representations by incorporating group sparsity. For the CK+ dataset, C-HiSLR on raw expressive faces performs as competitive as the Sparse Representation based Classification (SRC) applied on manually prepared emotions. C-HiSLR pe…
It has been recently shown that incorporating priori knowledge significantly improves the performance of basic compressive sensing based approaches. We have managed to successfully exploit this idea for recovering a matrix as a summation of a Low-rank and a Sparse component from compressive measurements. When applied to the problem of construction of 4D Cardiac MR image sequences in real-time from highly under-sampled $k-$space data, our proposed method achieves superior reconstruction quality compared to the other state-of-the-art methods.
Recently, so called annihilating filer-based low rank Hankel matrix (ALOHA) approach was proposed as a powerful image inpainting method. Based on the observation that smoothness or textures within an image patch corresponds to sparse spectral components in the frequency domain, ALOHA exploits the existence of annihilating filters and the associated rank-deficient Hankel matrices in the image domain to estimate the missing pixels. By extending this idea, here we propose a novel impulse noise removal algorithm using sparse + low rank decomposition of an annihilating filter-based Hankel matrix. T…
In this paper, we develop a nonconvex approach to the problem of low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition. In our nonconvex method, we replace the rank function and the $l_{0}$-norm of a given matrix with a non-convex fraction function on the singular values and the elements of the matrix respectively. An alternative direction method of multipliers algorithm is utilized to solve our proposed nonconvex problem with the nonconvex fraction function penalty. Numerical experiments on some low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition problems show that our method performs very well in recovering low-ran…

In this paper, we propose a novel nonconvex approach to robust principal component analysis for HSI denoising, which focuses on simultaneously developing more accurate approximations to both rank and column-wise sparsity for the low-rank and sparse components, respectively. In particular, the new method adopts the log-determinant rank approximation and a novel $\ell_{2,\log}$ norm, to restrict the local low-rank or column-wisely sparse properties for the component matrices, respectively. For the $\ell_{2,\log}$-regularized shrinkage problem, we develop an efficient, closed-form solution, which…

Low-rank and sparse decompositions and robust PCA (RPCA) are highly successful techniques in image processing and have recently found use in groupwise image registration. In this paper, we investigate the drawbacks of the most common RPCA-dissimi\-larity metric in image registration and derive an improved version. In particular, this new metric models low-rank requirements through explicit constraints instead of penalties and thus avoids the pitfalls of the established metric. Equipped with total variation regularization, we present a theoretically justified multilevel scheme based on first-or…
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an emerging technique in the field of biomedical imaging, with applications in ophthalmology, dermatology, coronary imaging etc. Due to the underlying physics, OCT images usually suffer from a granular pattern, called speckle noise, which restricts the process of interpretation. Here, a sparse and low rank decomposition based method is used for speckle reduction in retinal OCT images. This technique works on input data that consists of several B-scans of the same location. The next step is the batch alignment of the images using a sparse and low-rank decom…

This paper deals with the rotation synchronization problem, which arises in global registration of 3D point-sets and in structure from motion. The problem is formulated in an unprecedented way as a "low-rank and sparse" matrix decomposition that handles both outliers and missing data. A minimization strategy, dubbed R-GoDec, is also proposed and evaluated experimentally against state-of-the-art algorithms on simulated and real data. The results show that R-GoDec is the fastest among the robust algorithms.
In this paper, we propose a burnscar detection model for hyperspectral imaging (HSI) data. The proposed model contains two-processing steps in which the first step separate and then suppress the cloud information presenting in the data set using an RPCA algorithm and the second step detect the burnscar area in the low-rank component output of the first step. Experiments are conducted on the public MODIS dataset available at NASA official website.

Although low-rank and sparse decomposition based methods have been successfully applied to the problem of moving object detection using structured sparsity-inducing norms, they are still vulnerable to significant illumination changes that arise in certain applications. We are interested in moving object detection in applications involving time-lapse image sequences for which current methods mistakenly group moving objects and illumination changes into foreground. Our method relies on the multilinear (tensor) data low-rank and sparse decomposition framework to address the weaknesses of existing…
Self-similarity learning has been recognized as a promising method for single image super-resolution (SR) to produce high-resolution (HR) image in recent years. The performance of learning based SR reconstruction, however, highly depends on learned representation coeffcients. Due to the degradation of input image, conventional sparse coding is prone to produce unfaithful representation coeffcients. To this end, we propose a novel kernel based low-rank sparse model with self-similarity learning for single image SR which incorporates nonlocalsimilarity prior to enforce similar patches having sim…
In tracking of time-varying low-rank models of time-varying matrices, we present a method robust to both uniformly-distributed measurement noise and arbitrarily-distributed ``sparse'' noise. In theory, we bound the tracking error. In practice, our use of randomised coordinate descent is scalable and allows for encouraging results on changedetection net, a benchmark.

This paper introduces two very fast and competitive hyperspectral image (HSI) restoration algorithms: fast hyperspectral denoising (FastHyDe), a denoising algorithm able to cope with Gaussian and Poissonian noise, and fast hyperspectral inpainting (FastHyIn), an inpainting algorithm to restore HSIs where some observations from known pixels in some known bands are missing. FastHyDe and FastHyIn fully exploit extremely compact and sparse HSI representations linked with their low-rank and self-similarity characteristics. In a series of experiments with simulated and real data, the newly introduce…

This study conducts a comparative analysis on low-rank matrix approximation methods in thermography with applications of semi-, convex-, and sparse- non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) methods for detecting subsurface thermal patterns. These methods inherit the advantages of principal component thermography (PCT) and sparse PCT, whereas tackle negative bases in sparse PCT with non-negative constraints, and exhibit …

Recovering color images and videos from highly undersampled data is a fundamental and challenging task in face recognition and computer vision. By the multi-dimensional nature of color images and videos, in this paper, we propose a novel tensor completion approach, which is able to efficiently explore the sparsity of tensor data under the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Specifically, we introduce two ``sparse + low-rank'' tensor completion models as well as two implementable algorithms for finding their solutions. The first one is a DCT-based sparse plus weighted nuclear norm induced low-rank…
What if deep neural networks can learn from sparsity-inducing priors? When the networks are designed by combining layer modules (CNN, RNN, etc), engineers less exploit the inductive bias, i.e., existing well-known rules or prior knowledge, other than annotated training data sets. We focus on employing sparsity-inducing priors in deep learning to encourage the network to concisely capture the nature of high-dimensional data in an unsupervised way. In order to use non-differentiable sparsity-inducing norms as loss functions, we plug their proximal mappings into the automatic differentiation fram…

We address the problem of reconstructing and analyzing surveillance videos using compressive sensing. We develop a new method that performs video reconstruction by low rank and sparse decomposition adaptively. Background subtraction becomes part of the reconstruction. In our method, a background model is used in which the background is learned adaptively as the compressive measurements are processed. The adaptive method has low latency, and is more robust than previous methods. We will present experimental results to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.
