We study the effect of a static homogeneous external magnetic field on charmonium and bottomonium states. In an external magnetic field, quarkonium states do not have a conserved center-of-mass momentum. Instead there is a new conserved quantity called the pseudomomentum which takes into account the Lorentz force on the particles in the system. When written in terms of the pseudomomentum, the internal and center-of-mass motions do not decouple and, as a result, the properties of quarkonia depend on the states' center-of-mass momentum. We analyze the behavior of heavy particle-antiparticle pairs subject to an external magnetic field assuming a three dimensional harmonic potential and Cornell potential plus spin-spin interaction. In the case of the Cornell potential, we also take into account the mixing of the eta_c and J/psi states and eta_b and Upsilon states due to the background magnetic field. We then numerically calculate the dependence of the masses and mixing fractions on the magnitude of the background magnetic field and center-of-mass momentum of the state.
The basic shape of di-pion mass spectra in the two-pion transitions of both charmonia and bottomonia states is explained by an unified mechanism based on contributions of the $ππ$, $K\overline{K}$ and $ηη$ coupled channels including their interference. The role of the individual $f_0$ resonances in shaping the di-pion mass distributions in the charmonia and bottomonia decays is considered.
It is shown that the basic shape of dipion and $K\overline{K}$ mass spectra in decays $J/ψ\toϕ(ππ,K\overline{K})$, $ψ(2S)\to J/ψ\,ππ$, $Y(4260)\to J/ϕ~ππ$ and in the two-pion transitions of bottomonia states are explained by an unified mechanism based on the contribution of the $ππ$, $K\overline{K}$ and $ηη$ coupled channels including their interference. The role of the individual $f_0$ resonances in making up the shape of the dipion mass distributions in the charmonia and bottomonia decays is considered.
In the framework of nonrelativistic QCD, we study the radiative decays of bottomonia into charmonia, including $Υ\to χ_{cJ}γ$, $Υ\to η_cγ$, $η_b\to J/ψγ$, and $χ_{bJ}\to J/ψγ$. We give predictions for their branching ratios with numerical calculations. E.g., we predict the branching ratio for $η_b\to J/ψγ$ is about $1\times 10^{-7}$. As a phenomenological model study, we further extend our calculation to the radiative decays of bottomonia into light mesons by assuming the $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$ and other light mesons to be described by nonrelativistic $q\bar q ~(q=u,d,s)$ bound states with …
In this contribution, we will discuss our unquenched quark model re- sults for the spectra of cc and bb states. The spectra are calculated in the unquenched quark model formalism, where the physical mass of a meson is the sum of a bare mass contribution plus a self-energy correc- tion, due to the coupling to the meson-meson continuum. We will also discuss the quark structure of the X(3872). Its open-flavor and radiative decays are calculated in the quark model formalism. In our interpreta- tion, the wave function of the X(3872) is the sum of two contributions, a cc core plus higher Fock compon…
The precision of lattice QCD calculations has been steadily improving for some time and is now approaching, or has surpassed, the 1% level for multiple quantities. At this level QED effects, i.e. the fact that quarks carry electric as well as color charge, come into play. In this report we will summarise results from the first lattice QCD+QED computations of the properties of ground-state charmonium and bottomonium mesons by the HPQCD Collaboration.
This paper is devoted to the leading twist exclusive bottomonia decays with double charmonium in the final state. Using models of the twist-2 charmonia distribution amplitudes the widths of these decays are calculated within light cone formalism. In addition, the processes under consideration are studied within nonrelativistic QCD. In our analysis we have found that the production of some of the $P$-wave charmonia mesons with $L_z \neq 0$ is allowed already at the leading twist approximation. This means that the selection rules which predict the suppression of such decays are violated. The mec…
We investigate the mass-shift of $P$-wave charmonium (${χ_c}_0$, ${χ_c}_1$) and $S$ and $P$-wave bottomonium ($η_b$, $Υ$, ${χ_b}_0$ and ${χ_b}_1$) states in magnetized hot asymmetric nuclear matter using the unification of QCD sum rules (QCDSR) and chiral $SU(3)$ model. Within QCDSR, we use two approaches, $i.e.$, moment sum rule and Borel sum rule. The magnetic field induced scalar gluon condensate $\left\langle \frac{α_{s}}π G^a_{μν} {G^a}^{μν} \right\rangle$ and the twist-2 gluon operator $\left\langle \frac{α_{s}}π G^a_{μσ} {{G^a}_ν}^σ \right\rangle $ calculated in chiral $SU(3$) model are…
We report recent progress on theoretical investigations of quarkonia at finite temperature. We discuss medium modification of charmonia and bottomonia from a viewpoint of local operators and point out that while charmonia are sensitive to the deconfinement transition bottomonia will be modified at much higher temperatures.
We present a unified analysis of the decays of bottomonia Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi pi (m>n, m=2,3,4,5, n=1,2,3), charmonia J/psi -> phi (pi pi, K antiK), psi(2S) -> J/psi pi pi and the isoscalar S-wave processes pi pi -> pi pi, K antiK, eta eta. In this analysis we extend our recent study of low-lying (m=2,3) radial excitations of bottomonia to modes involving higher (m=4,5) excited states. Similarly as for the data on lower radial excitations, we confirm that the data for higher radially excited states from the BaBar and Belle collaborations can be described under conditions that the fin…
We indicated in our previous work that for QED the role of the scalar potential which appears at the loop level is much smaller than that of the vector potential and in fact negligible. But the situation is different for QCD, one reason is that the loop effects are more significant because $α_s$ is much larger than $α$, and secondly the non-perturbative QCD effects may induce a sizable scalar potential. In this work, we phenomenologically study the contribution of the scalar potential to the spectra of charmonia, bottomonia and $b\bar c(\bar b c)$ family. Taking into account both vector and sc…
We present a calculation of the spectrum of charmonia, bottomonia and B_c-meson states with `ordinary' and exotic quantum numbers. We discuss the merits and limitations of a rainbow-ladder truncation of Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations and explore the effects of different shapes of the effective running coupling on ground and excited states in channels with quantum numbers J <= 3. We furthermore discuss the status of the X(3872) as a potential (excited) quark-antiquark state and give predictions for the masses of charmonia and bottomonia in the tensor channels with J=2,3.
We extend a previous work on the study of heavy charmonia and bottomonia in a deconfined quark-gluon plasma by considering the Bc family of mesons. With the introduction of this bound state of a charm and a beauty quark, we investigate at finite temperature the behavior of the quarkonium, in an energy region between the ψ and the Υ states.
We discuss the behavior of charmonia and bottomonia correlators and spectral functions above the deconfinement temperature and determine melting temperatures for different mesonic states.
Within the color singlet model, we calculate the exclusive production of double charmonia, double bottomonia, and double $B_c$ mesons at future super $Z$ factory. The two heavy quarkonia or $B_c$'s are either two S-wave Fock states ($^1S_0, ~^3S_1$), or one S-wave and one P-wave states ($^1P_1,~^3P_J~(J=0,1,2)$). The top three $Z^0$ propagated channels in cross sections for double charmonia are $J/ψ+h_c,η_c+χ_{c2}$, and $η_c+χ_{c0}$. For double bottomonia, they are $η_b+Υ, Υ+χ_{b2}$, and $Υ+Υ$. For double $B_c$ mesons, they are $B_c^{*+}+B_c^{*-}$,$B_c^{*+}+χ_{bc2}^-$, and $η_{bc}^++B_c^{*-}$.…
The mass spectra of charmonia, bottomonia and B_c mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The dynamics of heavy quarks and antiquarks is treated fully relativistically without application of the nonrelativistic v^2/c^2 expansion. The known one-loop radiative corrections to the heavy quark potential are taken into account perturbatively. The heavy quarkonium masses are calculated up to rather high orbital and radial excitations (L=5, n_r=5). On this basis the Regge trajectories are constructed both in the total a…
In the hindered magnetic dipole transitions of heavy quarkonia, the coupled-channel effects originating from the coupling of quarkonia to a pair of heavy and anti-heavy mesons can play a dominant role. Here, we study the hindered magnetic dipole transitions between two $P$-wave bottomonia, $χ_b(n P)$ and $h_b(n^\prime P)$, with $n\neq n^\prime$. In these processes the coupled-channel effects are expected to lead to partial widths much larger than the quark model predictions. We estimate these partial widths which, however, are very sensitive to unknown coupling constants related to the vertice…
We investigate the in-medium masses of open charm mesons ($D$($D^0$, $D^+$), $\bar{D}$($\bar{D^0}$, $D^-$), $D_s$(${D_{s}}^+$, ${D_{s}}^-$)) and charmonium states ($J/ψ$, $ψ(3686)$, $ψ(3770)$, $χ_{c0}$, $χ_{c2}$) in strongly magnetized isospin asymmetric strange hadronic matter using a chiral effective model. In the presence of the magnetic field, the number density and scalar density of charged baryons have contributions from Landau energy levels. The mass modifications of open charm mesons arise due to their interactions with nucleons, hyperons, and the scalar fields (the non-strange field $…
We investigate time evolution of $S$-wave charmonium populations under a time-dependent homogeneous magnetic field and evaluate survival probabilities of the low-lying charmonia to the goal of estimating the magnetic field strength at heavy-ion collisions. Our approach implements mixing between different spin eigenstates and transitions to radially excited states. We show that the survival probabilities can change even by an extremely short magnetic field. Furthermore, we find that the survival probabilities depend on the initial spin states. We propose the sum of the survival probabilities ov…
Phenomenological potentials describe the quarkonium systems like Charmonia, Bottomonia and $B_c$ Meson. They give a good accuracy for the mass spectra. In the present work we extend one of our previous works in the central case by adding spin dependent terms to allow for relativistic corrections. By using non central terms, we get better accuracy than other previous theoretical calculation. In the present work, the mass spectra of the bound states of heavy quarks are studied within the framework of the non relativistic Schrodinger s equation. First, we solve Schrodinger's equation by Nikiforov…

We investigate the properties of charmonia in strong magnetic fields by using QCD sum rules. We show how to implement the mixing effects between $η_c$ and $J/ψ$ on the basis of field-theoretical approaches, and then show that the sum rules are saturated by the mixing effects with phenomenologically determined parameters. Consequently, we find that the mixing effects are the dominant contribution to the mass shifts of the charmonia in strong magnetic fields.
In this paper we propose a particular description of meson spectroscopy, with emphasis in heavy bound states like charmonia and bottomonia, after working on the main aspects of the construction of an effective potential model. We use the prerogatives from ``soft QCD'' to determine the effective potential terms, establishing the asymptotic Coulomb term from one gluon exchange approximation. At the same time, a linear confinement term is introduced in agreement with QCD and phenomenological prescription. The main aspect of this work is the simplification in the calculation, consequence of a prec…
The decay widths of the charmonium states to $D\bar D$ in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter in the presence of a magnetic field are studied, using a field theoretical model for composite hadrons with quark/antiquark constituents. The medium modifications of these partial decay widths arise due to the changes in the masses of the decaying charmonium state and the produced $D$ and $\bar D$ mesons in the magnetized hadronic matter, calculated within a chiral effective model. The decay widths are computed using the light quark--antiquark pair creation term of the free Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of…
For the first time, we determine the complete spin- and momentum-dependent order v^2 corrections to the static interquark potential from simulations of QCD in the valence quark approximation at inverse lattice spacings of 2-3 GeV. A new flavor dependent correction to the central potential is found. We report a 1/r^2 contribution to the long range spin-orbit potential V_1'. The other spin-dependent potentials turn out to be short ranged and can be well understood by means of perturbation theory. The momentum-dependent potentials qualitatively agree with minimal area law expectations. In view of…
Heavy quarkonia in a homogeneous magnetic field are analyzed by using a potential model with constituent quarks. To obtain anisotropic wave functions and corresponding eigenvalues, the cylindrical Gaussian expansion method is applied, where the anisotropic wave functions are expanded by a Gaussian basis in the cylindrical coordinates. Deformation of the wave functions and the mass shifts of the $S$-wave heavy quarkonia ($η_c$, $J/ψ$, $η_c(2S)$, $ψ(2S)$ and bottomonia) are examined for the wide range of external magnetic field. The spatial structure of the wave functions changes drastically as …
We investigate the masses of the pseudoscalar ($D$($D^0$, $D^+$), $\bar{D}$($\bar{D^0}$, $D^-$) and vector open charm mesons ($D^*$($D^{*0}$, $D^{*+}$), ${\bar{D}}^*$(${\bar{D}}^{*0}$, $D^{*-}$) as well as the pseudoscalar ($η_c(1S)$, $η_c(2S)$) and the vector charmonium states ($J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $ψ(1D)$) in the asymmetric hot strange hadronic medium in the presence of strong magnetic fields. In the magnetized medium, the mass modification of open charm mesons due to their interactions with baryons and the scalar fields ($σ$, $ζ$, and $δ$) are investigated in a chiral effective model. Moreover, …
We find a novel phenomenon induced by the interplay between a strong magnetic field and finite orbital angular momenta in hadronic systems, which is analogous to the Paschen-Back effect observed in the field of atomic physics. This effect allows the wave functions to drastically deform. We discuss anisotropic decay from the deformation as a possibility to measure the strength of the magnetic field in heavy-ion collision at LHC, RHIC and SPS, which has not experimentally been measured. As an example we investigate charmonia with a finite orbital angular momentum in a strong magnetic field. We c…
